i watched the english trailer and the dub did not look good

Mod Note: Moved from general anime discussion. Do not discuss the general subs vs. dubs controversy! Focus on this particular show and the quality of the (presumably English) dub for it.

I liked Major's and Daisuke's voice much better with subs.

Their japanese versions had so much more strength in their lines.

You have to listen between the lines, JD.

An anime that looks like that should be seen dubbed.

I don't ever watch a series set outside of Japanese settings subbed unless it's either torturous to hear or there is no dub.

But it takes place in Japan?

Well I wouldn't know anything about GIS yet. I'm merely giving my thoughts based on its art style.

It's still a pretty lousy argument. Let's take Monster for example: it takes place in Germany, so Japanese and English are equally wrong for that setting.

In the case of Monster, the dub is clearly better to my ears than the original. Also, Liam O'Brien is Kenzo Tenma, and I can't listen to it without him.

Watch a quarter of it in dub, then a third in sub, then another quarter in dub, and then watch the rest in sub. That's the best way to watch it.

The original Ghost in the Shell movie dub is pretty decent, but the series has one of the best dubs I've ever heard. I'll be very sad if they don't get the S.A.C cast back for Arise.

I beg to differ. The voice actor of Kenzo Tenma completely ruins the character. So moody and angsty.

Just because you know how to use a torrent does not give you the god given right to pirate.

I liked the dub in GitS SAC.

The sub usually forced me to pause every now and then because they just talked continually and usually about technical stuff. The dub was just easier and faster to understand without having to read the sub fast and understand.

This is why you shouldn't argue about things you don't know anything about. Besides you can look at the section 9 members and easily tell they are Japanese.

Either one is fine, though. Both have solid Voice Work, from what I remember. I am mostly talking about SAC, though it's been years since I saw either of the films dubbed.

It's a fine dub, but it still felt very inferior to the original Japanese voices.

If you even feel the need to ask the question, then that means you watch some dubs, and the Stand Alone Complex Series has as good an english dub as you'll find anywhere, plus the show has a lot of technical dialogue so not having to look at subtitles is a bigger plus than it usually is.

However, the 1995 Oshii Movie has a much worse dub, so go for the subs in this case.
