An anime film adaptation of Aikatsu! has been green-lit and will premiere in December 2014. This news is being announced in Shogakukan's Ciao magazine's April issue (out on March 3, 2014).

The Aikatsu! franchise is owned by Bandai and consists of an original idol-themed card game and a TV anime adaptation which premiered in October 2012. A sequel to the TV anime series was also announced in 2013.

I've actually known about this, since I read about this on Anime News Network. I might as well watch the movie if I ever get around to watching the anime again.

Since Aikatsu earns more money than Precure that was predictable.

More of this kind of shows is always welcome, now I only have to catch up with Pretty Rhythm.

Well, I was planning to watch the series soon, now that Precure has massively gotten me into these sort of shows.
If the show's any good, then a movie is more than welcome.

I'm actually quite excited about this, I'll be sure to watch this. I did enjoy the first arc a lot, but ever since the second arc, they started introducing a bunch of new characters which kind of make it less interesting. The creators need to understand that an anime needs closure and if they want to make a second season, they don't have to introduce a bunch of new characters or make a brand new storyline.

I'm not sure, but most likely yes.

I feel like this kind of means there will be an S3. The movie comes out in December and if Aikatsu stopped after this season that would be a gap from October to the movie with no anime. IDK.

Actually, I would stay away. Season one (1-50) was very charming and if you could get into it it was a very enjoyable show. However, the general consensus seems to be that season two (51+) is just bad. The show is on ~70 now and all the discussion threads are basically complaints about the new idols and stuff.

(I will always be upset that the seasons were combined on MAL lol)

They aren't?

Haha yeah I have definitely been the most vocal about it, but out of the limited number of people who even post on the Aikatsu threads, a good handful don't like the Dream Academy idols and the focus of this season so far.
