THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode was noticeably fanservicey to a greater extent than I can recall this
season or last season. Poor Koharun to have her skirt flipped up three times
before the opening credits had even started. Fortunately, a streak of white
light prevented her from embarrassment.

I liked the gym scene where Mobuko-san (which of the 18 sisters I don't know)
decided to play rugby (or perhaps American football). That was a great catch
by Mobuko-san. However, I hope that somebody will tell her that rugby is
normally played on a soft grassy field for a good reason. From a physics point
of view, it all looked very accurate.

As I commented earlier, this series seems to be a runaway hit in Japan based
on the preorders of the Blu-ray/DVD. Volume 3 for Season 1 goes on sale on
February 26th. Just now, Amazon Stalker is forecasting 2826 BD + 562 DVD
for a total of 3388. These are "Amazon Stalker points".

Compare that to other current series:

3.4k -> 7.8k Hoozuki no Reitetsu

. . . which I obtained from this source:

All along, my attitude towards this series is that it is experimental, and a proof-
of-concept rather than a series made with a serious expectation of business
success. In fact, that is what the producer and director seemed to be saying in
an interview last Fall, if I understood them correctly. The interview asked them
about the premise of the series. They said, basically, "Let's put four girls in a
club, use MikuMikuDance 3DCG and ad-libbing and see what happens."

Here is that interview, in Japanese, published in Animate.TV in August 2013:

I am sure that Koharun is hoping that the white streaks will still be there to
keep her covered up when the Blu-ray/DVD for this episode comes out.

I find myself relating to the four characters at an emotional level, rather than
just watching 2D moe drawings. There are four different people, and the four
voice actresses have been successful in making it work.

Another distinctive feature of this series is that the main cast is extremely small.
There are the four girls. Yes, we have the 18 Mobuko-san sisters, but they are
clearly peripheral. I can't think of any any series with only four characters.

Clearly, this approach is a winner. Let's watch for more anime series along these
lines.

It's back, and better than ever before.

So many references. Saki. Girls und Panzer...
And fourth wall breaking.
And puns. Never ending puns.
And a bit of perverted stuff thrown in.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.
