I am reading the manga (up through vol. 17 now) and I have to say that this is not as good, but still worth watching. The newspaper scene was used to much better effect in the manga, for instance.

Good one overall, though. If you're liking the new series so far, I really recommend you read the manga.

I definitely agree. Humor is important in FMA, I'm just saying I think Brotherhood isn't doing as good a job handling the humor as the original series did. Sure, they're likely just following the mangaka's original intent, but it still doesn't appeal to me.

Sorry to misunderstand you, and I agree. It may be a function of the pacing (no time for setups) or they may be sticking too much to the manga here (manga jokes may not translate well to anime, or just bad adaptation).

Great episode, great developments and great scenario building. Good direction too, I want more episodes such as this one.

i'm glad that i wasn't a fan of mustang. :D he's juste too calm.

can't wait for the next episode! ><

I think this series does a better job than the previous anime of conveying that this alchemy stuff is just as dangerous as a real-world vial of nanotechnology.

The previous series spent a lot of time on emotional development for the characters. That was great, but it didn't hold my interest.

This series is giving me a lot more plot. I plan to stick with it.

Mustang is clever enough to fake a death, but Mustang is brutal enough to kill a subordinate. We really don't know which way he played it.

Edward is a kid. Mustang is a grown-up. Both of them have dangerous amounts of personal power. Edward might be a little bit more humanistic - or not.

Edward definitely has a tendency to spare the lives of characters I would have killed immediately if I had comparable superpowers.

But aww, they didn't show Barry knocking Falcon down xD Poor guy.
And gar Mustang in action!

Lol, are there? o.o Cause that's just common sense not to read it before watching.

I'm guessing Roy is up to something and actually helped Ross escape and didn't kill her. Because if Roy did kill her, then I'm really glad I dropped the manga and will seriously consider dropping this anime.

Nah, I enjoyed the first FMA so much that I picked up the manga for more info. After reading the first volume, I dropped it. I didn't get the same rush. I'm bigger on anime than manga anyway so I'm good. ^_^

Well, if it's the pacing you enjoy the most, you're probably right...but still o.o Hehe.

Good episode. I'm starting to like Barry somehow, haha. XD Ling annoys me somehow. Hope he'll either get serious or grow on me... somehow.

The episode felt sort of lacking. The scene where Ed comes upon Mustang and burnt-to-death Ross should have, I feel, been more intense and darker. I never read that far into the manga (;_; I should read more of the manga again) so I don't know if Ross is really dead but... I hope she isn't. It's seriously not fair that... well... she was convicted unfairly.

This is my only problem with Edward Elric:
If something isn't right for him or doesn't make sense to him then it is labeled wrong.
If he could grow up a little the plot would progress some....

More often then not I find myself shaking my head at Ed

RAAAAAAGE

I don't get that reasoning. I mean CMON, at least from his perspective(I haven't read up to here in the manga yet so I'm guessing) someone who was close to him, almost like a parent-figure, was scorched into a horribly disfigured corpse nearly right in front of him.....how would you expect him to react when he see's Mustang showing no remorse whatsoever, and acting like it was nothing? Is his anger towards the Colonel anything to look down upon?

random comedy scene was waaay out of place, wtf. & I agree that they didn't pull of the newspaper scene right.
love the Winry + Elrics scene at the beginning. the rest of the episode was meh-ish. :/ never was too fond of that part, not quite sure why but...

This episode had some hilarious stuff with that skull guy (Barry?). Also do cruel for my beloved Roy Mustang to do something like that. I don't really remember anything from the original FMA series so I'm hella excited to know what's going on x.x (it seems I have a really bad memory). I suppose this all made this the best FMA Brotherhood episode to date.

Maria's not dead!
Roy's manipulating things so that he can get to the bottom of what's going on like faking Maria's death, and then alienating everyone who is closest to him. (Notice how many people are suddenly on leave or otherwise out of Central?)
Can't wait for next week!

And that had totally no impact for me, thanks to their stupid decision in previous episode.

The whole episode felt cheap. While I loved most of episodes, this, along with the greed arc felt flat stupid. Its as if the production group is not even trying. The scene where
would have worked a lot better if put in the very end of episode, with
. And I felt that this whole scene was not dark enough...Well, thats one of my favourite manga moments ruined...AGAIN....

Shut the fuck up about the manga. This is not the manga, stop fucking talking about it.

Why the fuck would you read a thread about a certain episode and not expect to get spoiled. An episode discussion is to talk about the episode where NO SPOILERS ARE REQUIRED.

God dammit people are so fucking stupid.

Ross did not just die. If she really is dead, the fuck. She was one of my more liked characters in the series, and then bam just like that. Then hip hip horray comedy for the rest of the episode, and nobody gives a fuck. Talk about taking one massive pile of shit then shoving it up your ass.

The fuck. She better not be dead.

Fuck. The way they executed it though makes me think she is alive somewhere, and Roy has taken her into hiding, all his actions now being an act. It better be the case, or god help me...

This made me :)
After re-watching this episode, I doubt that Ross was killed. The way it was portrayed, it was pretty obvious that everything was being staged, adding to that Mustang's behavior only further enhances this hope.

However, I do have to agree with some other users that the comedy, while needed and welcomed, is terribly misplaced in certain spots and really throws off the pace of the episode.

Forget all the haters. I adore this series so far. Unless it completely jumps the shark mid-season, I'm expecting an amazing product.

Episode was great. It's like all of the government officials are working seperately and at the same time trying to bring down each one into the ground, wow so intense.

I don't know what's going on because for some reason, everyone has different motives. From the looks of it, they're all trying to accomplish different stuffs like Ed wants to get their bodies back, Mustang wants revenge and investigate, and this Holmen guy wants to sacrifice people, etc.

Okay so at first I thought that Maria Ross was still alive because the body was crisp when the police found it. Mustang could have easily burned down another person and replace Maria with it, but from the looks of it, she's really dead, lol.

The episode was great but I think Mustang over did it. I was anticipating his 'in-action' and all, but I never thought he'd burn up Ross that easily. Moreover I feel bad for Ed, Al, and Armstrong, they all had to go from one shock into another.

Guess Mustang has been blinded by his desire to revenge for Hughes, but if I were him, I'd really want a revenge at all costs anyway.

It's way too obvious her "death" was a cover, since the armor guy was in the custody of mustang since before, so they must be working together.

Well, you can kinda pick up on the significance in the fact it's simply implied that Roy killed her but, it doesn't actually visually confirm it..
