Great show, all of it was enjoyable. This episode just cemented each character in their K-On molds.

Suminoya-san being the first (apparently) to tell her she sucks, amusing.

All fits the style of the show, enjoyed the themes as well.

Should it be sad now that twice in a season I've been glad that subs scrolls by to quickly for me to process?

Don't really know what to say about this episode. Maybe because there were not many things to watch in these 24 minutes. The animation and backgrounds are fantastic and the characters are nice and all but maybe they could buy a scenarist with that much money to put on the visual part of the anime (hum, the Avatar syndrom ?) ? I don't know, it was quite refreshing and cute but very dull and with no real point.

Oh, and by the way, every time I see Kanata with a trumpet in her mouth, I instantly hear the notes from Pazu's trumpet scene (Laputa OST's legendary track 2 "Suraggu Keikoku No Asa"), in my head. Quite pleasant but I'm not really sure about my mental health anymore :)

Some people just aren't meant for Slice of Life shows and episodes I suppose.
They need blood and guts and violence, or heavy hard hitting sexuality, or things which spend a lot time discussing philosophy or other educational fields, or have superpowers, or have lots of romance drama and friendships lost and gained, or government conspiracies and other plot twists.

It has no point, but I don't find that dull or a problem.

Well, while I certainly fit in some of your cases (who does not ?), I think that I usually like slice of life, Honey and Clover and Haibane Renmei for example are two of my all-time favourites, and I can't tell you how I love Adachi mangas too. It's just that this particular show has no real scenario for now and the military setting is not a great choice for a slice of life series in my opinion. Still, I don't particularly dislike the show in itself and I will probably watch it till the end, it's just that I felt like I was watching the grass growing these last 24 minutes. It was not unpleasant, just empty.

Actually, I think first episodes just takes all the glory for the most part.

Though, it does seem like this second episode is moving more slowly than it ought to be.

Not 'Elfen Lied'. Gustav Klimt. :/

Kinda bad episode, Kureha was beyond intolerable. Dear Emperor Norton was she intolerable.

I for one find the OP more fascinating now with the legend being integrated with the girls Phylicia/Rio/Kureha/Noel and Kanata. Portrayed as all of them being the legendary fire maidens speculations goes that they will perform some heroic act. There are a few problems with that....first is that based on this scene Kureha
does not qualify to be the gunner with a sudden recoil (during the owl shooting) not being handled well at all. Logically a platoon cannot survive with 1 tank, one heavy machine gun, 2 light machine guns, 4 rifles and 5 hand guns (assuming all of the members have one assigned on duty). The tank walker here=>
cannot even be used and they don't even know if they have all the parts or even which one goes where although Noel is supposed to fit the logic of engineer. Another interesting thing is the the death roam the battlefields/posts where they died and is a interesting concept to have in this episode and further ones as part of death being in war/post war=>
Yeah right Kureha...yeah right=> I am surprised not many noticed in the beginning Noel seeing the ghost beforehand. Phylicia must be one funny captain to do cleaning with a apron and encourage all to bath together here=>
Well now I know that Rio and Phylicia have the biggest breasts with Rio being first=>
funny how the whole thing went around being growing up means to have bigger breasts. Now you got to admit that Noel was so funny here when her face went splat on the food dish=>
Franch translation here is File of decoding and it's supposed to be du not dr
Phylicia is one caring person with Rio for Kureha...looks that she jealous that Kanata gets to be taken care of more than her....a little baby she is after all with some tsundere might I add=>
Some gifs of Kureha's expressions because I still find that she was well shown in this episode=>
Overall intro of the remaining characters, base intro and ghost integration was good. Let's continue to see what is next and I want a battle somehow.

Kureha is totally a hardcore tsundere. No doubt about it. Nice to see that the show continues with its amazing scenery. The music was ok, but it wasn't as good as the first episode.
Music was well integrated but I like more and more OP and ED. Too bad animplex removed all the youtube stuff of that. Kureha being tsundere is not all.....she also has a caring complex and attitude problem being too pride...ha! Her gunner skills are sucky to say the least.

Wasabi said:
My prediction for the rest of the series pretty much goes like this: An enemy weapon (probably some kind of aerial object) will most likely attack the town at some point and 1121's spider tank will repel it just like the legend went in the first episode.
Really? That remains to be seen if that tank will even get completed since they don't have any manual nor parts to even be sure it can be assembled.

What's this? Mecha in my moe-shit? Now that's something you don't see everyday.

Interesting combination there.
Alexstratz said:
So here's how I think everything turned out the way it is: some people in the past started World War III with high tech weapons and threw nukes around, thus destroying most of humanity. Humans being persistent rebuild but take a whole step back technology-wise. Since they aren't a lot left, they gather around and there's like this cultural melting-pot that gets started, so that's why the girls live in a Spanish city, in francophone Switzerland and have Japanese names.
Could be but there is still no explanation of how things really went in the last war. I am not sure about this at all.
Alexstratz said:
And since Japan is quite far away, the Japanese were probably the ones that started the war by invading Europe with a secretly developed cyborg-ninja army with funds stolen from hard workin Koreans in the pachinko business. Oh my, this show just spoiled Japan's plan of invasion!

Really, it must have failed since the culture is not changed much at all.
Alexstratz said:
The tank is a mecha weapon of the last war, some people will probably throw a flying Gundam at those poor girls too.

Okay people, I've said the truth, you don't need to watch this anymore.

Maybe it might be interesting to see what kind of other weapons might show up but so far nothing on that at all.

Number One don't be surprised if there really is someone still hiding in that barraks.

Second they will get that tank put back together before the end of the show.

Thirdly there will be some sort of probing attack by the enemy which the girls will fight off.

Lastly to touch on something that some have been critical of. Five girls stuck in some run down fort in the middle of nowhere. It does actually make sense in a historical context. If you look at many of the second rate European empires and even some of the main ones, towards the end of the empire or in its twilight you see them stripping down the far off unwanted ends of the empire and replacing them with second or third rate troops. These troops are just there to show the flag.

As an example look at the Falkland Islands. There was a grand total of 80 British soldiers in the entire chain. Most of them stayed in and around the capital of Port Stanley, they even kept most of their weapons in the Governors house.

Before the Panama Canal was built the Falklands had been a major British outpost with a larg Navy base and the troops to match. Fast forward past two World Wars and other stuff and you have 80 men showing the flag. Same with these girls. Long war has run the country to the edge, but they are still trying to keep things under control, hence the girls in the fort.
Interesting logic there, still they are rather poorly armed and supplied. I do want to know more about this army that conquered all....

Why did the fortress turn out to be a school? It's unrealistic and makes the anime a high school anime. Sure hope it doesn't turn out like Kanata dreamt and they start playing instruments in school uniforms.

They just HAD to throw the breast envy thing in there. I'm getting sick of this sort of thing to be honest. She should be worried about getting taller like her "Sempai", not bustier. You never see any height envy in these shows featuring girls/women/females.
At first I had mixed feelings about the stuff, because even though it was promoting that women should have a complex about bust, there would be "status symbol" types as well, and that there would be more flat chested characters to satisfy the need anime has for more of them.

Now it's just getting annoying. Just give some flat chested characters anime studios and let that be that. And introduce more characters who have a complex over being shorter than their fellow female peers.

Owl is my favorite character...

Pace was slowed this time. Backgrounds were still great, music also though not as good as last ep. A little info about the fort and the platoon. Seriously, those five are the only ones there? Cant wait to see what happens when there's an invasion.

Why did Kureha and Kanata have such big backpacks? provisions? ammunition? its like they're playing a game, with real guns...

Well this series was much more enjoyable than I had anticipated~
They somehow seemed to contain both action and slice of life elements, which gives this series a different feel from other animes with high school girls as main theme.

I think this series will turn out to be very good as long as they end this properly
For certainty, I liked all the characters and I am definitely looking forward to the finale~

Nowhere does it specifically say that a tsundere HAS to be tsun and then grow to dere in a given length of time. They've developed to the point where it doesn't follow that generic pattern. They can start off dere and exhibit tsun traits at certain times, vice versa. They can even be tsun to one person and dere to another. In the bigger picture, they are still tsunderes.

Those are just extra specific adjectives depends on the role the tsundere takes.

And? Your point is? Is it, in any possible way....differing from what I said? Credits for making a nice essay and vocabulary analysis outta mine and Wasabi's posts? Congratulations!!! ^^

Not necessarily. I wouldnt say that every tsundere has the aforementioned characteristics. A tsundere should be tsuntsun at first and become deredere after time, and not be tsuntsun to one person (kanata) and deredere to another (captain).

Perhaps but some anime creators respect the old model like proselyt says and some from your viewing experience jump over it. That is how I see it.

In spoiler my anime list for now.

At first i was getting bored of it until they started to walk around looking for the ghost, seeing the common class 2-A and then picking up that book that was in Japanese, this show is relevant to my interest, here's to hoping they don't kill off the potential they've built what with the seemingly post apocalyptic world theme we got going here

EDIT also might i add this has the potential to be a subversion of the moe genre, with 5 cute girls who are rip-offs of other characters to be stuck in a war torn nation, bonus points if some of them die before the end of the series

Boring, annoying episode. I should've known from the beginning that I wouldn't be able to enjoy this show. Dropped.

Wat. What kinda OP is that anyway? ┐(-。ー')┌ The Oosran is not amused.

Noel, is my favorite character ヽ(´ー`)ノ
Second is Kureha ( ̄ー ̄)
And later Rio, blahblah etc.
Yeah, right they're the elites ( ´Д`)ノ(´・ω・`)
Also, who the heck named the country 'Helvetia'? (¬_¬)
Eh? A ghost? ಠ_ಠ
Ah, seems like.. Mio Rio's as much a scaredycat as Mio was in K-ON! ٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶ Oh and same apparantly goes for Kureha ( ´・‿-)~
Lolrats, and an owl ┐('~`;)┌
For being the gunner of the squad.. She's awfully bad at shooting. (・3・ア
So what the heck is up with that owl anyway? (ΘεΘ;) Oh well, that's an owl who's clearly mastered the art of trolling people ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌
Tsun tsun dere tsun dere tsun tsun ツ

Anyhow, I'm starting to wonder what happened to the manga, it just.. died ಠ_ಠ
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.
