| This wa an alright episode, but honestly I found it kind of annoying as the reason she wasn't eating Dagashi was obvious but Coconuts kept asking the same damn question over and over. But this episode did make me realize how cute Hotaru really is. |
| That episode was weird. I will probably read the manga after watching the anime, it seems funnier. I find it sad the director is apparently pushing Saya so much in the anime. Don't get me wrong, I really love Saya (as much as Hotaru), but she was pretty useless in that episode in particular. With only Kokonotsu, we would have had basically the same episode. And I think the dynamic between Hotaru and Kokonotsu was the main point of Dagashi Kashi, so it's weird Saya got so much screen-time knowing that the true main characters are Hotaru-chan and Kokonotsu. Oh nevermind, at least we got MELONS. |

It was this episode in particular that I found really weird. It's thanks to the anime that I will read the manga for my part, so I'm not complaining. But from what I've already seen from the manga, the anime seems weaker and I understand it could bother some manga readers. And Saya is a great character, that flashback episode with Kokonotsu was the best from the show, at least in my personal opinion. But in the last episode, I think she was pretty useless. |
| As a manga reader I am HAPPY there are a lot of Saya episodes. You know why? Because the chapters in which she gains focus are the only chapters in which any degree of plot or character progression occur. There is a Saya ship tease in the manga, it isn't much but it is there and it is more than the Hotaru ship tease. As much as I love Hotaru she literally does some variation of the exact same thing in every chapter she shows up in. She is a recurring joke. If the anime just followed the manga chapter for chapter without skipping anything it would be terrible. It would be doing nothing but retreading ground us manga readers have already been over and wouldn't engage anime only viewers due to the complete lack of progression. |
