Really good movie. Was going to give it 9/10 but it had an underwhelming out-of-nowhere ending and they didn't hook up. So 8/10.

Wow, this was disappointing. I heard good things about this movie for so long and I thought it would really be poignant regarding deaf community. But nah, just another rushed romance where characters are introduced too fast and forced too fast to generate tension and conflicts that seem artificial af. It's unbelievable that the heroine would ever fall in love with the hero and those reunions at the end were ridiculous. When did they have the time to get so close? This seems the kind of 'read the manga to get it', and it's lazy. It feels like they had everything to make a mediocre acceptable movie and just went for the visuals. It's pretty and all, but in terms of content is too unpleasant. 2/5

Really enjoyed this one a lot. Caught it in theater during part of its very limited run last Tuesday. Now I can look forward to waiting for a home media release, but I have no idea who will pick it up, as it wasn't distributed by a company that normally does home media releases?

despite neglecting so many stories of other characters, and manga moments I cried several times- the art sound and emotions of main charcters were depicted very vividly-it can't just be unnoticable. Brilliant work, or maybe it's just me being always weak and tender again works like this

the animation was amazing. everything was so ethereal and added a lot of emotional impact. i hadn't read the manga but i think the movie conveyed the story very well. i thought this was a love-story but it's really about recovery and the ending was magnificent because it was more of a story of how ishida matured and reconciled with his past to look ahead for the future. idk, it was inspirational and touching on all ends.

still dislike kawai and ueno though. how shoko puts up with ueno even through the end, the world may never know. she's just too sweet

Can someone explain Ishida's mother's bleeding ear? I'm really confused

She was wearing some kind of shiny diamond earrings and it probably meant that she had to quickly rip them off her ears so she could sell them to have money or give it away to compensate for Ishida's troublemaking ways coz she doesn't have much cash.

Watched the movie yesterday in a school cultural festival screening. Ishida suddenly having friends, losing them, and getting them back again for some reason made things a bit complicated. Now I can't look at a baguette without thinking of the movie. I was more surprised that Sahara was actually a girl than Yuruzu being one lmao

I'd try to kill myself too if I was too dense to mistake a love confession for the moon xD Nishimiya wanting to just disappear and not be a burden resonated with me and made me tear up a little. I don't see much accurate portrayals of deaf people in anime but this one did a great job of doing it. I wonder how'll Ishida and Nishimiya live as a couple after the movie~♡

Great movie. Some dickhead told me the main character dies so I was tense throughout the entire movie up until the end. I'm glad it turned out to be false because I really wanted to see the characters be happy. Shouya reminded me of myself so much that it hurt to watch; I could really relate to him. My only gripe is that I wanted to see more romance between Shouya and Shouko and I wish he would have made amends with his elementary friends. I guess I need to read the manga to get the full story.

I think I just cried for two hours straight... I'm not trying to be some edgy kid or anything but the males story once he was older felt so relatable it was freaky. I'm very lucky to come in knowing nothing even with how late I saw it.

Damn that was full of feels. I could somewhat relate so it was special for me. While the elementary school arc made me bitter particularly, I am glad it had a satisfying ending, they came to understand each other. That's great.

I kinda liked Ueno tbh. While... not the best character, she was daring and honest about herself... at least as a highschooler. And Kawai has her own plus points despite her self-victimizing, like with the cranes. And Yuzuru was probably my favorite. Also liked Sahara. And Nagatsuka was a good friend.

That was a very good movie. I can relate somewhat with the bullying, I was bullied a lot throughout school so the beginning made me really hate the MC, but as he got older and tried to make up for what he had done to her I began to like his character more. I can also relate with not looking people in the eye, always had that problem, at least for a while now. Overall I'd say it's a solid 8/10 for me. I watched the dub though so my experience might be a bit different than others.

Not having any expectations for this movie, I am more than surprised. Definitely a roller-coaster of emotions. Although I strongly disliked some characters, mainly Kawai and Ueno, I can't deny they were all very complex.
Shouko and Shouya fighting in the classroom will remain my favorite scene. Beautiful animation and great choice of background music.

I thought it was a great film and a little emotional too. Bullying is a major problem in the society and it's especially bad for those with disabilities. But it's nice to see Shoya's journey to forgive himself and make up to Shoko whom he hurt in the past. The other characters were also quite good and supportive especially Yuzuru. I also like the music because it really adds feels to scenes. One thing I really wanted to see was Shoya return Shoko's feelings vocally even though it's hinted that he likes her. But then again this is not tagged with romance so it is understandable. Still it would've been nice. 8/10

And that was the end. Wow. What a great film. Just like I decided to not watch Kimi no Na wa. then watched it, I did the same for this. I was right to call this mini-KnNw from the start, but the thing is...I liked this more. I was turned off about the movie being 2hr 10 mins (Funny thing is I wasn't for Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions since I love that series), but the movie never dragged one bit. KnNw is shorter, but it did drag. So glad that they didn't make Shoya and Shoko enter a romantic relationship. Though, I'm disappointed Shoko said she loved her bully. Shoya doesn't deserve her love. Nao is such a bitch. The amount of WTF's! I said after she came back into the plot because she hasn't changed and how she treated Shoko. Lawd! That sign language baka scene was funny though.

I watched it today and I really enjoyed this movie. Especially the first part - I was moved when Shouko said she was trying as best as she can, and some tears falls from my eyes. The other one when I really moved was when Shouko apologized Miyako on her knees, and actually wanted/try to said it by her voice.
Also good that movie show that bullying is really big problem in schools nowdays, but for G….. I know that stuff like that also happen in real life, and author wanted to make it more dramatic but I can’t understand teachers reactions. In every anime/manga title that I watch/read with bulling, teachers don’t f…king care about bully kids. I wonder if it is similar in real life in Japan? Is still - after all that years making people aware of bulling issue, really soo bad in Japan about that? Well I probably know answer already.

I was hoping that title will show/tell more about deaf community – it’s shows, but since this is movie, presumably they did not have enough time to show this properly. But I would like to see much more.
Another thing that I really enjoyed in this movie was art and soundtrack. Animation was amazing and sound add emotional impact. Characters were also good. I just fall for little Shouko and Yuzu, also like little by little Shouya change, but I don’t like Ueno. However she had a right in some issues.

Summarizing I really really enjoyed this title and like it. It give me sad, tears, smile, laught a lot emotions, so I will give it 9/10

Very very beautifully directed and animated. Perfect background music and voice acting. There were heartwarming, cute, funny and happy moments. I shed tears when Shoko kneeled down and apologized to Ishida's mum, not sure why.

My only nitpick is.. I don't like how the show portrayed the moral of the story for the first half. Ishida got punish not because he bullied others but he got punish because he backstabbed the rest of the bullies.

I don't really agree with the strong message that the story was trying to send across; if you do bad, bad things always come back to you as well. Which isn't really that case in real life and wasn't that case too for Ishida's friends who are bullies also.

Finally got around to watching Kyoto Animation's latest(?) film, Koe no Katachi. It was very enjoyable and comfy to watch. I did however, find it hard to take seriously as the plot revolved around an incident which happened in elementary school, which should really not affect people THAT much, but again this is an anime, not real life, so I can understand. Ueno made it hard to watch - shit character. Yuzuru, Shouko, Ishida and Nagatsuka easily best characters.

Overall rating: 8/10
Enjoyable, probably won't watch again any time soon though.

Pretty sure she was saying "I promise" (it looked like a pinky swear sign) to Ishida, when he asked her if "She can help him live". Ishida means she gives meaning to his life.

fantastic movie! so much feels. didnt expect to see a movie like this from KyoAni. I didnt know anything about it beforhand. I realized that this movie exists from a huge poster on the KyoAni building. Since that moment I was interested in this romance (I thought is was rom). It took me some time doing this, because for watching a movie like this I need to be in the right mood. I only got to know some days before watching this that the main girl is deaf. What coincidence. One of my cousins is deaf, too. So some things while watching this movie got me more attached. Didnt expected a drama that good. Well, KyoAni isnt responsible for the story and stuff, but they transformed the amazing drama into a strong movie! Thanks for that, I will watch that again!

It's impossible to give this enough praise. I've watched this three times now: sober, silent soundtrack, drunk. And it almost slipped my radar.

Classroom fight scene.

Ferris wheel scene.

Birthday scene.

Yuzuru explaining photos.

Pacing is great, as is art, and voice acting. And it manages to end in positive note.

Now. What pisses me off a lot: the virtue signaling concern trolls who try their very best to make this seem like a bad movie and shame those who love it for what it is who piss on decent human beings for no other reason than shallow self-serving vanity at expense of others. Hey you gigantic gaping assholes: manga was made under supervision of Japanese Association For Deaf.

I literally started yelling at my TV in awe because the animation is so damn good.

This show tackles realistic things in school. I cannot tell you how close to me this hits home as far as bullying goes. It doesn't matter if the person is deaf like in this animation but overall its a real thing and they nailed how it'd handled.

I put this off for a while and finally watched it and was not disappointed. From beginning to end it was really good. The middle of the movie had me clinching my seat and the ending had lumps in my throat, gotta love beautiful story writing that can do that.

Give it up for Kyoto.

Just saw the earnings of Kimi no Na Wa and Koe no Katachi. It's really shocking that there is such a huge gap between them. Kimi ni na wa, ok the earnings are justified (really well promoted). But for Koe no Katachi, it's just too low IMO, considering the fact that many (including me) think that KnK is far better than Knnw.

A film in spite of an anime series, by its nature can not exhaustively describe the paper work from which it derives, despite this, the film in question is able to describe the theme of history well and naturally. Some moments of the narrative are not very clear, but they are relatively few fortunately. Although it takes about two hours, the time to talk about the other characters is not there, this is the only worry that this film has for me. Graphically and technically, it is beautiful, even the soundtrack is very catchy.

I knew the premise, but wasn't quite sure what to expect beyond that. A Silent Voice certainly hit much closer to home than I imagined. Ishida's feelings of isolation, guilt and redemption deeply resonate with my own life. Though I've never been suicidal, I know what it is to lose the will to live. Reigniting that will and maintaining it has been an upward battle, but this definitely gave me a boost of courage to hold onto what I have and keep going.

This was a very touching story of how each person reaches out to mend the scars of their past and move forward. I like how the characters had aspects of them that could be frustrating (although Kawai's victim complex & Ueno's "holier than thou" attitude certainly made my blood boil), yet never boxed any of them into being one dimensional in their flaws. Though with that said, Nishimiya has a heart of gold.

Well, that was certainly an emotional coaster ride!
I'd been meaning to watch this for a while now,and finally,I'm glad I did.
I can't say I've really enjoyed an anime movie as much for a long,LONG time.
And thought my comments are usually tongue in cheek,I can't do that with this one, since I think I need to go buy some more tissues.
The only thing I can really say I wanted out of it,was to see if Shouya and Shouko actually did get together after the end, though I think it ended well anyway.
Right,what next to watch?

It left a lot of things out. Like at the start we learn that Shouya and his friends are Daredevils and jump into lakes and all that kind of stuff. Also I liked the fact that in this movie Yuzu was the one to discover her mother crying but people who only watched the movie wouldn't understand why and that it's connected to Yuzu running away and sleeping in the park when Shouya found her. It's in my opinion better that Yuzu found her crying at her grandma's funeral then Shouya. Tho the movie had a lot and I mean a lot of plot holes considering the source material it wasn't that bad but in my opinion the movie teaches us to let go and not only that but also tells us that usually these bad emotions and views that we think that people have about us is just our own imagination at play. It made it a lot more clearer than the manga did.

As both a reader of the manga and this movie i got a question.

I recently bought myself the complete manga set of a silent voice and i was looking for the page where Shouya is finally able to look people in the eyes again (without the crosses around there faces) and starts to tear up and let go of it all. I found that part so powerful but i can't find the manga page where that particular scene happens.

I was almost sure that part was in the manga too, but might I've been mistaken about that? is the English version different maybe?
Would be nice is someone happens to know about this :)

Completed the manga on Nov 20, 2014. A day after it finished publishing. Big fan. Great manga. One of the best romance manga.

Unfortunately I'm watching it 1+ year late because I got off anime and forgot.

I don't remember him wanting to commit suicide but anyway.
It's a pretty good adaption. The cinematography, animation and art is fucking gorgeous. But I think I'm a little disappointed just like I was with the manga for the fact of not having them date as a couple or kiss in the end.
They pretty much focused on the bigger important parts of the story while limiting the more detailed character development from Nagatasuka's film. They also hid Ueno's more direct scenes where she confessed to Ishida. Where her love and jealousy was a little more obvious.

Loved the voice acting. Great beautiful voices. Nagatsuka is hilarious.
It's awkward hearing Nishiyima speak but that's what I love about it. The scenes were great but the music was cheerful of hope and not depressing of sadness even though the scenes were dramatic, or else I might of cried if the scenes had the right mood with the music.

Yuzura and their mother was a little more involved, as well as Ishida's mother and cousin a tiny bit if I remember right.
In the manga the pace is slower with a little more detail and more story to Ishida's friendships and struggle. As well as Ueno and their film. That's a decently big chunk they cut out.

The movie is overrated but I like it, mostly for the animation. My main complain is that Ishida woke up for the power of love. That was pretty stupid. Also, most of the girls are annoying, especially Ueno. Fuck you Ueno. At least there some good scenes and the ending was decent. My score is 6/10 (I could give this 5/10 easily).
