Omg, wtf, her mom leaves her 16 YR old daughter to her abusive mother, aka the main protagonists "grandmother", a grandmother who abuses her workers and her grand-daughter. I don't know if I want to go on with this, to see Ohana be reciliant whilst enduring abuse... okay, but dammit I was looking for an uplifting anime. Yes, I read the synopsis, though I didn't expect her grandmother to be an abuser. I was hoping to see Ohana become independent and find strength even with her mother abandoning her for a man. I didn't think I'd have to watch Ohana suffer abuse too.. Right from the start just seeing how immature her mom was in the beginning, telling her daughter to pick up her phone call, and cowering behind her computer of whatever, but then her daughter tells her that is her mom's bf and her mom RUNS to the phone. Just seeing that made me cry bc, whatttttt, her mom can run to her bf, but her daughter was making food(I understand if ur mom works ull probablyhave 2 make ur own food, tho as the viewer seeing that as the first interaction with her mother is just pissed me off, that I didn't see any affection, nor at least a sec of quality time of the mother and duaghter spending together initiated by the mother), but her mom had the energy to run to talk to her bf but not make food for or with her daughter, and hey I'm not saying that moms should slave thier lives away for thier children either, though showing that you at least care for your child by doing smth with them is just as good as spending quality time with them, than showing how you completely prioritize your bf over your own duaghterrr. Ughhhh, I just started balwing, from seeing that. Heart sunken into stomach? CHECK. ALSO, I'm gonna mention this bc it reminded me of this one podcast I listened to called: Unmasking the Abuser, on spotify ( I recommend all women, even men, to listen to this podcast, it helps you spot abusers, and educate you on how it all kinds of works, I highly recommend, I listened to it while, doing laundry, sketching, and eating, all in 4 days, check it out plz! It may save your life, and it's good for everyone to know about.) Anyways in the podcast I remember the speaker talking about how the sign of pinching is a huge RED FLAG that relates to future abuse. Anyways in the anime, Ohana's grandmother pinches Ohana when they are apologizing to the customers. Which set me off and riled me. So when I watched her grandmother slap her worker then slap her grand-daughter 3 times and so hard that Ohana's nose STARTED BLEEDING. Omfg, I'll maybe watch a few more episodes, but if I see her grandmother say, " I love you", so Ohana and Ohana falling for her bull, im going to SCREAM and drop this show. When I don't settle for the b.s. in real life, my skin breaks out when I see it in entertainment ect. If anyone ur reading this, plz keep in mind of what love really is, I'm going to quote this from the book: About Love by Bell Hooks, I'm only a few chapters in, but I've allready began to subconscious incorporate things Bell addresses in the book into my life and spotting it everywhere. Okay, "Care and affirmation is love. When we are loving we openly and honestly express care, affection, responsibility, respect, commitment and trust." That is the bare minimum of what love is. So ,I HIGHLY recommend you to read this book. Oh yeah, and let me restate this if it wasn't clear. I HATE the "grandmother", let's be honest though, a real loving grandmother doesn't act, and behave that way. ALSO, when Ohana arrives at her grandmothers' she saw some "weeds" and ripped out a few places, & the girl who was growing those plants told her to DIE, over some plants, which is such a crazy over reaction over 4 plants behind ripped out, which still had roots, that could've easily been replanted. Then when Ohana stood up for that girl who told her to die, and told the chief of not yell at her bc it is true that yelling doesn't help with anything, anyone who says she interferes with others business, and is "high and mighty" are enablers of abuse, I said what I said. After Ohana called out the male chef's problematic behavior he just gets flustered and immediately tells her to leave with the excuse of him having to let letter do thier own thing and that that have thier "own rules here" which of course consist of yelling, which is emotional, verbal abuse. With the male Chef calling her names and yelling at her. And him making up fake scenarios to guilt trip the girl chef and shame her into feeling bad, about peeling skin's too thickly.. The the girl chef just turning back on Ohana and yelling at her. Then after Ohana and the other girl girl was slapped by the grandma talk, the girl just tells her her die gain.. The mysogany from two women so far in the anime is gross asf. THEN the first thing Ohana's grandmother does is throw a bucket at her and a rag at her face. It's blatent disrespect. And terrible behavior. Also, her uncle tripping, over her and landing on Ohana's butt with HIS hands on her butt. Yeah, At 18:33 her uncle, creepily looks at Ohana's body.. Ewww wtf, very pedo vibes. I've witnessed and seen abuse around me before, so I get mad when I see it happen irl, to me anime is supposed to be at least better than reality and not reminding me of it. And you'll heae Ohana mention repeatedly how she didn't come there to work, but to be looked after. And Ohana breaks down crying while she was cleaning the floor. Even with Ohana's mother abandoning her, she didn't cry one tear, though breaks down ones she gets slapped repeatedly, and told to die repeatedly, has no one to comfort/help her, and she feels isolated.
