| I'm a guy. But while I wouldn't consider myself effeminate I've always had a few girly hobbies including a weird period in my early teens where I obsessed over Katy Perry (Don't really care for her nowadays though and her new album is terrible). Although I'm not really sure whether that part of my personality was responsible for my love of yuri. The show that got me into anime was K-ON and since I sort of have a thing for girls who can play musical instruments I found the whole setup really appealing. But as as I watched more and more anime I came to the realisation that I just really enjoyed the basic set up of a group of girls with charming personalities having funny interactions in a relaxing environment Getting into yuri was sort of a natural transition from there. Although I suppose the Sono Hanabira VNs were what really got me into it. |

For what it's worth: my theory about gender and romance stories is that people generally like romances involving the gender(s) they are attracted to more because it's hot, and involving people who are the same gender as them OR attracted to the same gender as them because it's more relatable. For my part, I like all sorts of romance manga and stories, but will admit I do have a bias toward yuri. |

| Hmm, thought I posted here... But I'm a female. I'm not overly surprise with more females liking Yuri since I've seen several polls in my time as a Yuri fan (lol) and each time the votes were predominately female. ( I think I lost my shock years ago. xD ) One of the polls, some people were discussing it and brought up an interesting point. For the most part it is females that enjoy and read romance in general so the numbers are probably, more often than not, stacked in our favor. |
| Male. Not all surprised about there being more female fans. There seems to be a common perception that Yuri inherently fetishizes the characters to appeal to a male audience, I disagree though. I would consider fans of the genre to be people who have an emotional attachment to the characters and relationships which goes deeper than 'girl on girl is hot.' Wow, a comrade :D I got into yuri about a year ago but I've never found yaoi to be appealing. Most girls I know are into BL. Felt so alone. The first time I saw one of these polls, I was so shocked to see more females than males. I've since seen several similar polls so the results are no longer surprising. If anything, I'm surprised the lead isn't wider xD The best thing about my yuri ships: they hardly get sunk <3 |

| Female. I consider myself asexual, so the romantic side is what appeals to me. The interesting thing about two girls being together is that there generally is no fixed male/dominant or female/passive role between them so they can play-off each other in a very fluid way. In my mind, men should be manly & less touchy-feely with their emotions. So yaoi is definitely not appealing. With yuri I can deal with the hugging and kissing but tend to dislike full on high level intimacy, unless it's for laughs like in Yuricam |

| I'm female and like yuri and yaoi about the same. Yaoi gets a slight edge because I am more familiar with the genre (and as such know how to avoid the clichéd stuff) and since I prefer male characters I tend to enjoy male/male slash more. But for female charactera I really love and that I can slash together and/or an an actual couple, I like it as much as I do BL. |

| Though it's not in the poll, I'm genderqueer. I'm also bi and enjoy both GL and BL, but I tend to prefer GL when it comes to romance and fluff, but there's some really good vintage BL manga out there too. So far, my favorite yuri manga series is Asagao to Kase-san :) |

| I'm a guy, I just happen to love a lot of "girly" things or things pertaining to girls. Yuri is definitely among the top. There's nothing as sweet, innocent, and pure as love between two girls, I swear. I'm also glad to see there are a lot of other guys here as well. |

| I'm a girl. It's hard for me to determine what I identify as, but as of now, I consider myself straight, for the most part at least. I found myself liking yuri because I find romance between girls to be sweet and emotionally impactful. While I also do like yaoi/romance between boys to an extent, I just couldn't get into as much because it doesn't seem to have the same level of emotion I got from girls love. |
