Felt like Jean deliberately let himself be captured by the guys when he heard "coup d'etat" bec he didn't put up any resistance.
Also like how Jean managed to save everyone at the end.

Is it just me or is this one of those Japanese misuasge of such terminology, that they can't disgusting the difference between a coup d'etat from a revolution?

A less interesting episode after the best episode (3). Wasn't that interesting to see the stuff going on in that district. If they can later tie it to an overall plot (maybe coup attempts in other districts) the things we saw in this episode might gain value.

But it showed a bit about Jean and that he is willing to help coup people and he didn't seem involved so far. (At least not in that district.)

The desire of change and the politic state of the district was well detailed. A lot of things happened, but the episode succeed to keep its calm atmosphere.
I'm sure Jean noticed Nino

To us, the viewers, it looks like Nino and Grossular are communicating with each other via cell phones, but I have a feeling that's not the case. I'm suspecting that Grossular is talking to someone that wants to destroy Jean, while Nino is talking to someone that is actually helping or trying to protect Jean.

I agree that they are talking to different people. Actually, in the previous episode Niino was talking on the phone with someone after he had a meeting with Groshular. And in this episode it seems to be implied that the owner of the building is in fact Crow's boss.

It is fascinating to watch Jean each week navigate the murky waters of Dōwa's political structure without ever really playing his hand. Four episodes in and I'm still not 1005 sure which side of the possible coup our protagonist is on. In most shows, this would be a deal breaker, but the creative team behind ACCA have crafted an intriguing enough world and cast of characters around Jean that I am interested to see where the story goes.

I really like this show now. Kuzu and ACCA are the only two non-sequel shows that I look forward to.

Jean is such a fun character to watch on screen since he is laid back and chill.

So the nobles prevent Suitsu from development leading to many failed revolutions, and because of Suitsu's strict policy on information/technology even news about a revolution wont make it out. Which just shows how important technology is. The people of Suitsu sure are unlucky, and forever trapped in an underdeveloped state.

Just a theory. What if Jean is an offspring of the king? It would explain why there is such a buzz around him and why they wont let him quit ACCA, because there they would easily know every step he takes.
It would also explain why Niino said that he been watching Jean for 30 years in episode 2, and why nino is reporting to someone other than Groshular. And the owner might be the king himself, because being in that building gives Jean and Lotta quite the confortable life without a lot of effort, and that might be why Niino was calling the owner in this episode.

this show really is growing on me to bad not a lot of people are giving it a chance, it's not even like anything crazy has happened but i've had some "oh shit" moments in predicting future events .

interesting that there's just a district force to live out a amish like lifestyle meanwhile everyone else has been able to advance in technology just for the sake of tradition and formality

and whoever Niino is talking to they know about this other coup now

This anime is becoming quickly so good.
Jean is probably the most chilled guy ever xD This guy is so OP, i still can't believe how he managed to "go out" from that situation and ended up saving those people and that ACCA guy.
But it's sad watching those people having such a shitty life, they are basically living in the XVIII/XVIV century, while the rest of the country is in the XXI century. I really hope the succeed with the revolution.
I still can't get why Groshular is trying to blame everything on Jean, the only theory that i have is that he is the one who is trying to take down the government.

My bet is that suitsu (and its people) will be a great piece for the outcome.

Smudy said:

Grossular with the ending scene again. What is up with him, are we being led to a false path here?

I'm still reading the commentaries but this caught my attention. Tbh, since the 2nd episode, IMO, Grossular is a pawn. What I mean is that he haves that patriotic and duty vibes; The Prime Minister (?) - the black coat bearded man - may be using him as a puppet, to the coup and, maybe, Lillium (the green haired chief with earrings) has another plans regarding the coup but not as the good guy as the anime has shown us.

It's all about hullabaloo, making a buzz, an uproar, while the true puppet master sneak away and do his/her thing. I'll LMAO if the puppet master is Maeve, for example.

One thing is certain: The two extremes is Lilium and Grossular, the opening show this.
About Jean, he said that he can't see people situation during auditions. So, I guess that he'll start to think about all this setup and make his move. I'm pretty sure that he is aware of a thing or two about his situation, besides, he is smart as hell.

This anime surprises me, more and more.

Interesting episode, even though it did feel like a bit of a departure from the overarching story. The world-building in this show is on point I must say: the Suitsu District is painfully reminiscent of the gap in technology and overall advancement between colonies and mainlands, and the secondary coup d'état was an interesting sub-plot which allowed to further establish both Jean's character and the country's current situation.

Like others I agree that Nino might be playing some kind of double agent game where his actual endgoal is to protect Jean rather than simply monitoring his movements on Grossular's behalf. In which case, hemight be working on his own or could very well be employed by somebody else. Possibly the King, which would give credence to the "Jean = illegitimate royal descendant" theory? Ah, this show keeps me guessing.

The story that is presented to us, it seems an end in itself, but there is something I do not back this time as well. At the beginning of episode, I thought we were faced yet another act of a bizarre plot, but then, it did not go well, if we analyze the background; there is nothing new to what we already knew before, at least apparently. Known that we focused more on the socio-environmental aspects that the real plot, which would be the coup true or any fictional character whose Jean Otus, should be part of it. I believe that the environmental aspect, it is an element that had to come sooner or later, to make the story credible and intriguing; They have done well to introduce it. Even this time, the characters have, disappointed me, Jean remains shrouded in mystery.

Sometimes i feel like this anime is even smarter than it looks, and it already looks pretty smart.

lots of details, unclear who's honest & what's relevant.
Lotta job is landlord i thought. She also sends monthly reports (spying?) with gifts to a faceless owner (of wut?). Apparently owner is either Grossuler or a 3rd party boss Nino works for in secret, ooh double agent potential.
Suitsu nation/district, differences in regions are interesting but that place sucks. It's like edo period isolationist Japan, and the coup could be like attempting Meiji restoration on a small scale.
Jean's cigarettes contain hidden message? Or just bribing tool? He's still lying about resignation rejected, or acca's ignoring his request? We see more of his power influence, able to free the whole coup crowd.
Lots of unclear politics with Beurre & fancy blondie from the 5 member, both nobles with different origins, but sharing Suitsu. Strange Beurre needs to lie visiting his hometown.

This is my favourite show this season, but I'm not going to lie: this is the first episode so far that was just unambiguously disappointing. Most of it was cryptic exposition about only one of thirteen districts, interspersed with some confusing "action" scenes detailing a coup attempt that wasn't well-explained or established as well as some remarks about political corruption and manipulation. I found it hard to care about anything that was happening, which makes me sad because the first three episodes were so good at drawing me into the setting and making me speculate about the direction the show was going in.

I'm hoping that this episode will be an outlier in what will otherwise be an impeccable political drama, but I almost feel like this is the beginning of a trend. Of course, I'll be the first to call myself out if it doesn't happen. But I can't help but feel like its only down from here.

5/10 for the episode.

Jean is so blasé that it's kind of stupid and boring at times. I wanted him to squirm a bit more. This is why aloof MCs tend to bore me. I also hate it when they overreact. It's hard to find that balance.

I like his nickname, Biscuit.

I'm glad Jean decided not to report them. He's awesome in that sense although his impassive-looking face kind irks me at times

The more we see of Nino I get the feeling he is not only working for that one guy to get information about Jean. His dialogues are kinda weird.

And then he even saves him in that alley. I guess he had to either way if they assume he is their only connection to the coup d'état.
