It's back but the tone of the show is still generally the same as the previous season - full of energy and comedy. Right off the bat though, we got comedic moments involving...bubble gum? This anime just loves tossing all logic out the door.

It's also funny that Ataru just can't seem to stay out of trouble wherever he goes especialy in school.

It’s back again after almost a year, and so the usual shouting… so the usual of Ataru acting the way we don’t want him to, and so the usual weird af cutting edge discoveries which far surpass the knowledge of this century itself lol.

I mean what in the world is even a fantasy bubblegum lol. You wish for someone while chewing and the creature you wished for, in whatever form will be in front of you after the bubble is popped.. what? Lum did try to get a hold of Ataru in her own way, but hey I guess the kind of skirt chaser this dude is, it didn’t help even a bit, heck it even got worse lol. Though like usual, in the end he got the stick from the girls… the usual.

Nothing much to care about there, but I’m kind of surprised in the second half, Lum only did forget how to speak japanese after getting a straight hit on her head lol, I mean that’s still the least worst thing that could’ve happened. Not sure what that language was, but hey the VA must’ve practised hard lol.

Kind of a sweet moment to cap off the episode, but I again think things would be quite similar to how they were in the first part. Hopefully not really, but okay. The first cour songs still tops btw.

Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura is back for Season 2, completing the 2nd half of its All-Stars reboot/remake treatment.

MAISONdes is back for the OST, the 3rd Cour OST with the OP feat. Hashimero and MeguriMeguru, as well as the ED feat. 9Lana and SAKURAmoti, it feels like the OST is a rollercoaster of decent to good.

It's great to see Lum, the horndog Ataru Moroboshi and everyone back once again after a year's absence, though trouble starts once again with Ten's fantasy bubblegum that allows one to fantasize about anything within. And Ataru just knows what to do: dream up more girls and get back at Mendo. And once Lum got that notion down, it instead pits the real people against the bubblegum counterparts. With the one stick that Ataru has left, he put his mind into it, only to get stopped by Lum herself.

Both Ataru and Ten continue having their big feud, but within the mess, Ataru hitting Lum with the rice cooker onto her forehead, and she mysteriously...cannot speak any language other than alien due to temporary amnesia. Ataru takes his chance to be the same womanizer and not care about Lum, which only the night, that turned into days and a week thereafter, he feels reluctant and apologizes to her, while he dons a mask that she made as a translator for the time being until she gets better.

More comedic moments are back once again with Urusei Yatsura!

Given the massive success of the 2022 remake, it's no wonder we're coming back for a second season.

Ten was playing with the "bonus bubblegum," where things imagined would appear inside the inflated bubblegum. Ataru discovered him and took the gum away. Tearfully, Ten reported to Lum about losing the gum. The Moroboshi household was noisy with Ataru and Ten's quarrel from early morning. Amidst throwing things and breathing fire at each other, Ataru's thrown rice cooker accidentally hit Lum on the forehead. It seemed harmless at first, but there was a change in Lum's demeanor.

Only a manga as old as this can turn half an episode of the main characters playing around with bubble gum into this much fun. I didn't really get what was happening, but it was hilarious as hell, lmao. It just goes to show that deep down, Ataru does care for and love Lum. I'm pretty sure if push came to shove, he'd even learn her native language. I'm still on the fence about whether I like the sympathetic Ataru more or the jealous one. Both bring out some great moments with Lum.

Starting off on a sweet note. I'm definitely looking forward to making Yatsura Thursdays.

Best recap ses ever. Gum that can create whatever you think off huh sounds mighty useful. Funny even the replica's don't want to be near him. Must be real weird seeing a copy of yourself doing things that you would never do. That ended as expected. Lum losing the ability to speak multi languages sure had some funny moments. But it showed well how talented she is. Lum sure had the last laugh this time though. The translator was a nice idea. Nice to see this series return.

This remake has such good OPs damn. This was a banger both visually and in terms of music too. Thank god they kept MAISONdes for everything.
I wonder if what the teacher is reading is a reference to something.
The ED is beautiful too. I looove the artstyle.
This episode was really funny imo. But the highlight is the second half, it feels sooo good to see Ataru miss Lum and actually show affection towards her. I'd love it if there were more moments like this this season.

After 9-months of waiting, Lum is finally back!

Man, both the OP and ED are so goooood. MAISONdes rocks!

The OP is full of doors, something that I definitely didn't expect. People who watched/read Urusei Yatsura before will understand the symbolism. Didn't think they'd lean so heavily on it in the OP but I love it!

This is probably also the best ED of the Remake yet. So glad it's not like the previous ED. I also love the references to Lum no Love Song and Yume wa Love me more! Those were the best!

The new eyecatch and the next episode preview image look gorgeous as well.

They reused the recap from Episode 18 of Season 1. Albeit it's a bit extended here. It makes sense for the recap thing to be in the first episode of the new season but I'm still not sure why it was in episode 18 of the last season. Anyways...

Loved the Fantasy Bubble Gum episode. I loved how Lum was destroying Ataru's "masterpieces" one by one lol. In the original anime, this story was adapted together with the Ice Cooler story so it's good to see the Bubble Gum storyline adapted on its own.

I noticed they replaced the lightsaber with a generic sci-fi sword here. Oh well. Modern copyright laws suck. I liked how the OG manga and anime were unhinged with their copyright infringements.

The Lum Gets Amnesia story got a decent adaptation here but it's nowhere near as good as how the OG anime handled it. It did stray from the source material but it showed Ataru at its absolute lowest point which I think made a far bigger impact than it did here.

I think the biggest bottleneck of the Remake is that its runtime is really short and it really shows in this chapter and it's unfortunate cause this was one of the best chapters.

What I'm more interested in is how they'll handle the next episode. It's going to adapt 3 chapters. What I'm most interested in is the last chapter, "The Home Visit Blues: Feuding Fujinami Edition". The original manga chapter is only called The Home Visit Blues so where did the "Feuding Fujinami Edition" come from? I wonder what this means.

Either way, I'm excited for more Urusei Yatsura!

Still the good shitpost from the first season but the episodes were lacking in character interactions? I'm always looking forward to see the cast interacting in all sorts of ways but this episode was a bit more limited, It's a good episode regardless and I think it was the right call for it to begin with less chaotic situations

Finally we are back on the second season. I really like the OP with how energetic and upbeat the animation with Ataru being chased around and the glimpse of the future. They are adapting two of my favorite chapters from the manga. The first one is absolutely hilarious how Lum trying to lure Ataru with the gum but ending up luring Shinobu, Sakura and Ryu like a cow. Not to mention her snarky comment on Shinobu's physique lol. Too bad they not go all in with the Star Wars lightsaber, missed opportunity or copyright perhaps? The second half is a really sweet chapter with how Ataru hugged Lum from behind instead of not sober when atone then ended up asleep on her lap in the original run. I actually prefer this one a lot more given how tender it is although the OG's is really good when showing Ataru's lowest point. The pace is still fast just like the first season but I expect a lot more relationship progression in this season and more Atalum moments are always great.

Bubblegum stuff was funny but that hug at the end was the best, sweet. Ataru looks so bad with that mask though. New OP/ED are both nice.

Real anime is back let’s gooo. How I’ve missed UY. It feels like the production quality is even better this season. David Prod cooked in the first season, but the animation feels even smoother now.

Maisondes as usual cooked with the OP and ED, sadly no Minami feature this time around.

Right back where we left off with this loveable group of idiots. The recap sesh was definitely welcome after 9 months and I love how they integrated it into the episode.

First skit with the bubble gum that could create whatever you were thinking about was great. Seeing versions of the girls who act in totally opposite ways was hilarious, especially nurse Sakura’s clone that was giving the boys a tease πŸ˜‚. Love how Ataru is just on the roof in Buddha meditation the whole time

“Don’t mind that it’s just some noise pollution” lmaoo dude Ataru is such an asshole. The whole forgetting how to speak Japanese skit was great, but if you think about it, Ataru and Lum are kinda always on different wavelengths even when they’re both speaking the same language.

As usual, Ataru doesn’t appreciate what he has with Lum until he can’t talk to her anymore. Cute ending with him hugging her and crying over not being able to speak to her. The translation mask she gave him really solves two things at once. They can speak and she won’t have to worry about him going after girls πŸ˜‚

Great first episode back

Lum is back and so is Ataru with his womanizer antics that completely backfire and turn into slapstick comedy. We got a bit of a touching moment in the second half after the "poo" girls from the first one. The opening sequence animation is really nice though the song will have to grow on me over time. Good start overall.

Nice to see this back to with its second half, and it's more of the same tone as we had before, just fun skits for a good laugh, and not much more than that for now. Visuals look pretty good though, perhaps even more sharpened than the first season. At least it has that going for it.

The Urusei Yatsura remake is back with a short recap and more shenanigans featuring Ataru and Lum. The first segment Ataru steals bubble gum that projects one's fantasy so he uses it to create fake duplicates of the girls he likes. Of course the other girls didn't like this so they teamed up with Lum to put a stop to Ataru's bubble gum fantasy with a huge "pop". The second segment was a classic case of language barriers caused by Ataru throwing a rice cooker at Lum and she forgot to speak Japanese. Ataru did eventually feel bad when Lum stopped showing up, but Lum was basically making a translator device. The only downside that it made Ataru looked ugly by wearing the device so I guess that was a reasonable punishment for being a jerk.

At long last, we’re finally back with Urusei Yatsura’s remake. In the time it took for it to come out, I finished the entirety of the series including the movies and OVAs, even the one from 2008 lol, so basically I have seen it all besides the manga. And this season already has some interesting things knowing what I know, like some characters that appear in the promotional artwork hinting at what’s to come, just more reasons to be excited! And the bits in this one were good, it’s funny because I was actually thinking the fantasy bubble gum stuff was new but it actually wasn’t because in the original it was giant ice blocks instead lol, great stuff for sure tho, even if they’re copies I gotta love Ataru’s imaginations of the beautiful babes of Urusei Yatsura, and Lum’s bait plan backfiring was great as well lol.

And the 2nd half with Lum forgetting how to speak Japanese was one I remember liking quite a bit from the OG despite some dastardly stuff Ataru does there, but looking back at it after seeing the remake’s adaptation I think the OG did it much better, Ataru finally showing Lum that he cares hit a lot harder there than it did here, although it was still good. Lum’s gibberish speak was great for sure tho lol, they did a good job with that. And damn they’re back with another banger OP and ED pair, once again we see some stuff here that hints at what’s to come and I am definitely hyped, and the ED visuals had some references to some of the classic imagery from the original which I really appreciated as well, and I gotta mention again how great the songs were, they may not hit the same as the amazing 80s jams but they hit in their own way and they’re definitely some of the best of this winter season.

And with that we’re in for another 2-cours of Urusei Yatsura goodness! And as a final note, I really liked the art for the half way point and next time segment, love little stuff like that.

my favourite remake (probably) is back with its absurdity hell fucking yeah and my fridays have been blessed again just like 2022. only difference since season 1 aired is that now i've seen the 1981 version and completed it. david production cooked with the beautiful colorful visuals yet again and i also prefer this set of voice actors over the ones in the original.
think i slightly prefer the ending over the opening this time. good wholesome end to the episode and already know this gon be one of the bests of the season.

Have to admit, never watched "Urusei Yatsura" as a kid - but I really wished I did.

Show was cancelled 10 years before my birth and manga and anime, were nevered licenced in my country. Just learned about this masterpiece's existincence last week when I was looking for something new to watch in the Winter Season. Then read the whole manga within a week to get ready for the new season. - Gosh, what a great show.
Really liked how they keep this 1978 manga alive in today's time.😍 Like building a bridge above generations.

They really chose two banger chapters for the start of the second season.
Was really fun to see everyone messing with bubblegum and as you already said, that the chapter now gets an adaption of its own.

Suprisingly, although I was more looking forward to the 1st episode, my higlight was the second episode.
Not only sounded the alien-language super cute, but we also get a very nice Lumtaro moment at the end.πŸ’–

Yeeeeyy, it's finally back, and as good as the first season, with ataru doing his "girl hunt", being a jerk and TSUNDERE AS FUCK. It seems lum in this season is also gonna have a lot of trouble dealing with him, along to pretty funny situations for usπŸ‘Œ

Also the OP and ED are just PERFECT. Because of this show last year, MAISONdes have become my favorite Japan singer, and my top 3 on spotify❀️❀️❀️

My thoughts exactly. I feel they put a lot of love into this new ED. The callbacks were instantly recognizable, yet still felt like new takes on that iconic imagery. (Even the way Lum was drawn in a slightly different style from the show itself, I want to say it's more shoujo-ish?) Much appreciated improvement from the rotating image of the last ending! :)

I'm very curious how they'll adapt the hospital girl episode later on.

Yep. I had the biggest grin on my face when I saw Lum skipping. This is how you pay homage to classics without outright copying them.

Btw, this artwork was drawn by the person who was in charge of storyboarding, original drawings, and color designations for the new ED.

As always, the opening and ending are great songs, I love it.

I liked both parts of the episode but if I had to highlight one it is the second, I like how even though Ataru is a bastard he still loves Lum.

Yeh first half was good but the second half is was worth staying for, we need more moments like that. The comedy in this anime is a good as it gets but with a little romance, we get a nice balance going ya know.

Nice it's back, good OP/ED as always and both stories were fun, the bubblegum from the 1st one is sure something and Ataru used it as you would expect, I liked how the 2nd story ended with Ataru being forced to wear that translator just because Lum couldn't speak japanese anymore after what he threw at her ahah

PEAK IS BACK!

After his unsuccessful recreation of Benten and Oyuki, Ataru thought up more complex objects to bamboozled the likes of Lum and Mendou. Shame they aren't as bold in the eighties with references. Wish they stuck it to Disney and gave Ataru a lightsaber against Mendou.
Lum uses the bubblegum to create the perfect bait for Ataru, unfortunately, it works on all the other boys in school, too. The funniest part was because of her rivalry with Shinobu, Lum had to double up the sexiness on bubblegum-Shinobu; not considering the plain one enough.
Lum and those she recreated, Sakura, Shinobu and Ryuunosuke, arrive just in time for Ataru to create his dream scenario after a long deep thought on the school roof.

Inuyasha reference in the English lesson (notice the blackboard, too!)

Unable to remember how to speak the language, Lum skips school. Her long absence finally made Ataru willing to apologise and even embrace her. Turns out it was a translator device she was making. With Ataru's massive beak, the couple look like an oni and a kappa when they are out in public lol

Noticed the ED has some visual references to the 80s anime.
