A great start to this new era of Pokemon. There was so much happening already it was hard to take it all in. Liko is really fun and energetic, while also incredibly determined to learn and improve which I think is perfect for a protagonist. She also seems different enough from Ash for now which is great for taking things in a new direction. Sprigatito's initial defiance and hesitation in joining Liko was very reminiscent of Ash and Pikachu, though overall this was the biggest similarity I noticed. The school setting is an interesting choice given we only just had Sun and Moon a few years ago, but again this one is very different and much more of a traditional Japanese school setting. I'm glad Liko actually has parents/grandparents (even if we didn't get to see them yet) as a full family of supporting characters is something we haven't really gotten until now. Her pendant is definitely something special although we don't really know why as of just yet, but clearly those new bad guys are after it for some reason. The new professor was cool and I'm glad that there was a bit of action at the end. Now I just need to see part two to get some more answers as the ending to this episode was extremely abrupt.

I was really afraid tbh as a huge Pokemon fan but the first episode really hooked me! What a start! The new era of Pokemon seems to be worthy aw.

The OSTs behind?! It was like you are watching a Pokemon Movie.

Why do I have this vague feeling that this will be something like P-Witch or other female-targeted reboots of iconic franchises?

What an exciting first episode. Over the years they really mastered how to mix together the cutesy Pokémon slice of life with a bit of action and drama.
The beginning was a bit mundane and made me worry that I wouldn't like the new main character but when the action started I fell in love with her.

Pretty good start for the new series. Liko already showing more awareness than Ash when she decided to escape in secret when the guy tried to trick her to get the pendant. Y'all know Ash would have 100% done as that guy asked until he got the pendant and Ash would have had to fight to get it back lol.

Definitely looking forward to seeing more.

You know. For a first episode, thought it was alright at first. After watching so many of these kinds of shows, where you can tell it'd be more relaxed than the previous. Then the last arc of the episode hit, and I was quite surprised, and glad it went that route. I hope it continues to do well,my only worry with it, is more that you can pretty much tell that this was made in Modern times. Which I'm not sure everyone will take to. Not that OG Pokemon is a masterpiece, but more that the style is so different, that I can see people not warming to it. But so far, it's delivered for me.

honestly I loved it. I love how they've changed the Pokémon world in the time skip from when ash was a trainer, I thought it was really cool how she started at a school having to learn how to use moves, I loved the new main character, I loved the little we have seen so far of the plotline with the new legendary. I stopped watching Pokémon halfway through sun and moon cause it got so repetitive and this is definitely a much needed refresh of the series and if it keeps on this trajectory it will be amazing

So what's the reasoning behind which pokémon they will get? Was it established in those prior interviews?

Also, what the hell is wrong with that school? A student is stalked by several suspicious people and nobody moves a finger? Until another suspicious person appear with a Charizard?

And the whole climbing Liko was doing, she climbed a Clock Tower, it is insane.

I was excited for this, but they started with the left foot.

Not bad. Guess I'll watch as many episodes as it takes for me to get bored of it. I think Pokemon just isn't for me any more, but I'm at least a bit curious about seeing the other main character.

Kinda started out how Ash's journey started with the rocky relationship between him and Pikachu.

Liko has that Rocky relationship with Sprigatito.

Interesting episode. Liko's parents both went to the school in Kanto so I think that rules out Ash as her Father even though the school is in Kanto.

Looking forward to episode 2.

Did you even don't catch Pokemon mania in the late 90s, when Pikachu was on the same level as Sonic and Mario in popularity?

This was better than expected. I haven't really seen the original Pokemon anime, so I cannot compare them.

I wish she would have gotten a Fuecoco instead of a Sprigatito. Well, it will be fine as long as it doesn't evolve.
Also a bit weird that they start in Kanto, but I reckon it won't be long until we'll see Paldea.

Quite a suspensful ending! Too bad we have to wait till tomorrow for the next episode.

Neat beginning!
Liko seems like a pretty sweet girl, with room for character development. Her tendency to overthink contrasts quite a lot with Ash’s tendencies to… not think.

I’m happy she got Sprigatito as a starter, it is my favorite among Paldea starters (Floragato my beloved…).

The appearance of the bad guys was neat too! They seem more threatening than Team Rocket, though they still retain some form of goofiness (the whole “all the kids look the same, I can’t find her”). The guy with the Ceruledge looks a lot like a protagonist. I’m expecting him to get a redemption arc.

This is exactly how to start a new series! They're probably afraid to lose a bunch of fans with the departure of Ash so it makes sense that the first episode would have action and even would have a cliffhanger. They succeeded in making me curious, that's for sure.

I love Liko, I love Sprigatito, I love the villains. I was worried I wouldn't like it without Ash but I'm loving it already!

I loved this episode, Liko is really cute!!! I love how relatable she is, she seems awkward and like an anxiety mess, really different from Ash in that sense and it's refreshing lol. (Even if I love Ash myself) Sprigatito was a nice first pokemon to get too, their interactions were great!! Reminded me a bit of how Ash and Pikachu were at the start!

In general I think it was a great episode, it had the right amount of cute interactions and the action kicking at the end it was cool! Though, I must say, the security of that school sucks lol. They didn't notice anything was happening even with the fight happening 😭

Felt a lot different than your bog standard Pokemon episode, very refined, a more mellow atmosphere, was quite nice. Liko's character is especially great, coming from watching Ash for all these years, a refreshing change.

Decent start so far, hopefully they won't fall back to the bad habits of the Ash anime, specifically the character of the day/Team Rocket filler plot-like episodes and treating Liko like all the female companions since Serena that are allergic to battling and catching more than 3 Pokémon.

A nice start to this new era of Pokemon, and while I haven't kept up with the Pokemon anime for a couple years now, I'm interested to see what the new characters bring to the table. Liko was definitely a much different character in terms of personality compared to Ash, yet she's still brave in her own way. Feels like a breath of fresh air honestly, and that's no disrespect to Ash at all. This pilot episode did remind me of how Ash and Pikachu started out, with Pikachu not listening to Ash and all that.

I wonder what regions will be explored in this anime, maybe we'll get to see the Paldea region from the Scarlet/Violet games, which I enjoyed a lot.

One thing I'll have to get used to is not watching Pokemon in English dub, but with new beginnings for Pokemon, perhaps means new beginnings for how I watch Pokemon as well. It's only fitting! I will have to get used to the Japanese Pokemon names though. Liko's first partner is Sprigatito, Nyahoja in Japanese, and that's certainly a decent starter to have.

Overall, a fun first episode, and I'm excited for more. I doubt it'll be close to as good as the Scarlet/Violet story in the game, but I'm here for whatever they bring to the table nonetheless.

Eh that's actually a good start focused on Liko entering the Kanto academy and getting her 1st pokemon (Sprigatito) and their relationship kinda reminds me of Ash and Pikachu at the beginning... now I'm wondering what's really happening with the pendant, it's mysterious...

Random but I just watched an episode of Hitoribocchi (not Bocchi the rock) and the protag of Pokemon immediately reminded me of her lol. Anyways, good first episode. Only thing I didn't like that that Nyahoja doesn't have much personality compared to Pikachu. Like there wasn't a scene similar to OG first episode Pokemon where Pikachu was batting the pokeball away with his head and tail, instead Nyahoja just behaved like a regular rebellious cat. Oh well, that'll probably change when/if Nyahoja evolves. Which I figure it should because unlike Pikachu, Nyahoja evolves by level and it's more humanoid appearance will probably be easier to characterize.

Why the hell does she remind me so much of Bocchi? Shy, awkward, has a tendency to overthink, and is also not naive. When I put it that way, she's kinda like the polar opposite of Ash who would have totally trusted that evil dude right there and then have to fight his way through. Love how she put in the effort to get closer to Sprigatito, making note of his favourite napping places and all.

Dunno if our evil dudes here are temporary like the game villains or permanent like our fav TR trio but either way, they were plenty threatening. Looks like we will be treated to a comparatively mature storyline than the usual. Looking forward to it.

Also, seeing as she comes from Paldea and the fact that her dad studied in a school, her being Ash's daughter can be safely squashed out.

This had an awkward pace, it seemed like some moments it wanted to be quiet and then had to throw something more lively to not let the quiet moments linger but the overall episode did have at least a more relaxed theme so it wasn't bad just awkward.

Liko seems nice and look at her with such a prowess for climbing, sprigatito was cute.

Comienza una nueva aventura. ❤

Finally a female protagonist and she's so cute plus together with her... I'm always writing the English name wrong, that's a Felori to me. The beginning reminded me of Satoshi and Pikachu.
Also the art style and animation is really good, that will hopefully be so much fun.
Don't know what to think of the school setting tho, I hope it won't play a huge part.

Starts off in Kanto, depicts it as a tamed, civilized land with paved roads and modern infrastructure and highways everywhere like modern Japan rather than the dangerous, untamed wilderness of the original show. The show takes place in "Tokiwa city". Grey modernist buildings everywhere. They really should have just set in Japan.

Follows the same formula of people standing around ordering commands to their Pokemon during pseudo-turn based battles.

MC seems to be very introspective, lots of inner monologue, not sure if this is going to be representative of the whole show. The first episode of XY was similar, only for it to revert back to being the generic Ash shounen anime.

Everyone has a Rotom smartphone, which also acts as a Pokedex. Guess Pokedexes are gone now. Aw.

It's weird seeing people in the Pokemon world watch youtubers.

Rotomphones can stretch out into being tablet sized?

What happened to the police guard seen earlier? The commotion lasted 5 minutes, more than long enough for him to arrive.

First half of the episode was whatever slice of life stuff, last 1/3rd caught me offguard for having an actual plot.

artxmysteryWasn't really an attention grabbing first episode.

Yeah. The episode hadn't really gotten me invested in the heroine.

XioneaLiko already showing more awareness than Ash when she decided to escape in secret when the guy tried to trick her to get the pendant.

Why couldn't she have just told her RotomPhone to call the school guard or 9/11? Or call her grandmother to ask for verification?

curvedtreeSo what's the reasoning behind which pokémon they will get? Was it established in those prior interviews?

Seem they pick at random. Also seems like a recipe for disaster if people don't get a Pokemon they like. In the original anime, it was first come first serve where the trainers could pick which Pokemon they wanted.

curvedtreewhat the hell is wrong with that school? A student is stalked by several suspicious people and nobody moves a finger? Until another suspicious person appear with a Charizard?

Yeah, you'd think that the dozens or hundreds of people living in the dorms would have been woken up by the commotion. Even if they had level 1 baby Pokemon, that would be a lot of angry Pokemon bearing down on those three guys and would impede them.

ReruzaaI never watched any Pokemon.

The first season, Indigo League, and the first half dozen movies were pretty good. The world felt storied and dangerous. Felt like any adventure could happen out there. The characters were really likeable. The show had above average art and animation compared to other shows for its time. The first half dozen movies were also very good aesthetically.
