Dropping Shows You Like - Why is this a thing?

On many lists I've seen people drop anime. Mostly, I seen people give dropped anime mediocre/bad scores, but then I come across a person who has a show in their dropped list with a 7 or higher as its score.

I can excuse this for things like Detective Conan and such, but for simple anime (up to say 50 episodes), why do people drop shows they give a 7, 8, or even a 9 or 10? If you don't have time to finish a 12-50 episode long series at your current state, shouldn't it be in the On-Hold section?

I'd prefer a response from someone who ACTUALLY does this and explain why they do this sort of thing.

(In before obligatory "I don't drop anime" response)

maybe they want to drop the show, but they dont want to seem like a hater so they give it a good score.

get spoiler or know how quality turned down is usual reason. somtimes it's more to personal reason like can't bear violance, nudity or it story, or something. they find it original sorce more justify than anime can be another reason.

I don't know, I don't drop any anime.

But one possibility is that they're reading the manga instead or maybe they don't use the dropped section for its intended use, some people put anime in there they are still actually planning on watching.

I rate 7 a lot on dropped animes, but that's cuz my average rating hovers around an 8, different rating scales.

For animes that I dropped, but rated 8 or higher, it's because I tried rating it objectively, in this case I hated the anime due to something specific or personal preferences, but still thought that overall, it was good.

Because I watched them at the TV in the past, and then at some point I couldn't continue watching them because of real life problems, then when I finally had access to the internet, I'm not interested in continuing them.
I rate them 6 or 7 because I enjoyed them in the past, well maybe I would still enjoy them if I watch them now, but I would rather use my time to watch newer anime, and do other things in real life.

Perhaps they liked the earlier episode and then started hating the newer ones for some reason.

They thought the show was good but not worth finishing or they disliked watching it even if it was good.

I would have dropped Clannad After Story but I had friends who watched the entire thing so I was obligated to finish it.

Probably because not everyone rates by their enjoyment. I liked the Black Jack OVA series, but at 50 minutes per episode I can't be bothered to finish it.

Sometimes I will start watching a show, and then I'll not be able to watch it anymore (the site I watched it on takes the show off, something like that) and then I have no choice but to put it on my "dropped" list. It's rare, but it could happen.

Or maybe someone just wants to be an edgy little shit.

I've done this once with Kiseijuu. I haven't given it any rating, but from what I've seen (7 or 8 eps) would I give it a 7 or something. It's normally the type of show that I would like and I don't really have any major complaints about it, but I just completely lost interest in it. And I'm not going to force myself to watch a show that I'm not interested in anymore, so I dropped it. I rather watch a show that makes me laugh because I think that it's bad than a decent show that doesn't entertain me for some reason. Kiseijuu is (like most other shows on my dropped list) just a show that I didn't watch for a couple of weeks, which made me think about if I even wanted to continue with it. The answer to that question was no, it didn't entertain me, so I couldn't care less about how the story would end.

Also there are people on this site who consider a 7 to be a bad/average score.

Honey and Clover was apparently a really good anime, but I couldn't force myself to finish the whole thing. Hamtaro is 296 episodes and I only watched a few episodes as a kid, but I really enjoyed the episodes I watched.

I no longer give ratings to anime I've dropped because I don't really know what they deserve and it usually gives me a worse compatibility score with other users who actually completed them.

A lot of people dtopped Death Note after
Even though they still enjoy it, they just aren't motivated anymore. Some just drop anime they like to continue with the manga. This happens with One Piece a lot.

I have done this once and thinking to do another anime that's been on hold for 2 years, in my case it's animes based off of manga that went into anime original territory that I had no interest in watching and read the manga instead.

True anime fans know it's really 16.5.

@ Topic - I guess one reason could be that it's better to part with something while you still love it than to end it with bitter feelings. I've been losing interest in One Piece for a while now and even though I love what it's done so far, I don't know if I'm willing to see it all the way through if it continues at its current pace with arcs that have been less and less captivating.

If any anime I started when it first starting airing turned out to be a new long runner I would drop it even if I enjoyed it. I don't think any anime has remained good for more than 600 episodes. Even 149 episodes of HxH is an accomplishment to stay good throughout.

Well if you look at a show like One Piece, it's known to be very stretched out. What is 700 episodes could probably be done in 500 episodes, easily. It's not so much that the quality is inconsistent - the manga readers will vouch for its consistency the whole way through, but it's by nature of limited weekly material that the TV show has to stretch it out unless it's to take a break which would not be as profitable.

If someone was to re-adapt One Piece when it's completed and adapt it like HxH 2011 or Dragon Ball Kai, assuming the manga keeps up its consistency, I don't think anyone's going to be complaining, and it will still end up being 600+ episodes.

In the end I don't think it's the number of episodes, so much as who is doing the adaptation and the way they're doing it.

I gave Naruto Part 1 an 8/10 but dropped it after episode 135. Why? Because the rest of the show (except the second half of episode 220) was filler, and it's one of the few series where I skip the filler episodes.
