I'm surprised that Gon was willing to give back Hisoka's tag.
And that was an epic punch at the end. xD

Okay, I've never bashed this remake - except for that stupid recap episode - but I'm not too pleased with the way several important scenes were executed this episode.

That scene where Hisoka tries to contain his bloodlust after Leorio and Kurapika leave is absolutely one of my favourites in the original series, so I was looking forward to it. I was let down.
The level of creepiness and perversion Hisoka displays is nowhere near as intense as the original. That's just wrong. The scene in the original series was character-defining and perfect and just so...Hisoka. Instead we get more Joker!Hisoka. :S

Also, why did Hisoka sound like a monkey for a bit when he attacked the other person? I'm not too happy with the excessive Joker faces they give him, but that monkey sound was a crime. Really.

Ah well. It wasn't too bad, though. I just adore my Hisoka the way he was should be.

This was epic! loved the Hisoka expression
My favorite episode until the final exam :P
my only complaint is how Gon used the rod to get the badge...it was much cooler in the original >.>

If any, it's the 1999 hisoka that sounded like a monkey...even more with his high pitched voice. and also it was much more creepy when he was being all..hisoka during the whole night, and the expression he made he killed agon was much scarier.
It was better in the original because that's what you watched first and liked it so much so you'd expect this episode to be exactly the same :P

Yeah. Again. I've never bashed the remake before this, I like this remake. It made me watch the 99 version, so no, I didn't watch the original first.

And again, I think Namikawa is doing a marvelous, sexy job as Hisoka. My only issue with his voice was that scene as he attacked that man - just before Gon snatches his badge - where yes, he sounds like a monkey.
Also, if you think Hiroki's Hisoka sounds like a monkey, you've clearly never been around one. Not that you'd want to be be around one, monkeys are kinda nasty.

But yeah, that's who Hisoka is, though - creepy and just awesome. Eh.

Before babbling about the elder episode's execution compared to this one, everyone'd better check out the manga and assure himself that today's episode followed it to a pin (obviously excluding the scene with Gereta which is censored because of the timeslot)

Things that you should take notice of in this episode:

If you've seen the 1999 series, you would have expected Gon to have wallowed in a fit of self-pity and fear after being dealt a blow by Hisoka. But Madhouse gets it right in this episode by including the manga's original story--Gon's reaction is entirely different with good reason. Look at how mad Gon is at the end. His expression isn't anything but anger. The narrator puts it best--what is he thinking that night? This event marks a major turning point in Gon's personality.

Pretty good episode, though there's 2 things that bothered me. First, didn't Hisoka go all psycho during the night? IIRC, in the original all of that happened during nighttime.
Second, in the manga when Hisoka brings the tags to Gon, he also brings the guy's head on his hand. The first series toned it down and Hisoka was just wearing the guy's hat (IIRC), but here he brings the whole body along... I think it was much creepier if he had just brought the hat (since there was no way they were going to make it like the original).

For me this episode was great. I was looking forward to how Hisoka would be transcribed from the original for his bloodlust scene. Its almost up to par with the original I say.

MADHOUSE, be proud! This episode proves that you really know how to show HxHs awesomeness. This is the first time since it started that I felt a little bit excited. Please keep this up, so that I can feel that it deserves the 8 I just gave it.

Gon: "I wanna be your friend!" (engrish)
Killua: "F-friend? Baka, you're so embarassing..."

I really liked Gon's feelings in the original anime, because it made him feel more like a realistic child, feeling self pity and wanting to see his mom at a situation like that. But yeah, it's not like that in the manga, he's pissed of instead, and while the scene felt a bit rushed, I'm glad that MADHOUSE sticked with the manga version :).

I always find myself shaking my head when I see this comparative comments. I look back at scenes from before and it's not all that much greater most of the time if greater at all. The scene where Gon snatched the tag was just as epic if not more epic this time around. I didn't watch the original back in the day but I make sure to look how things were executed the first time around and I have to say watching the 2011 version right before the original scenes, Hisoka's creepiness was still felt...by me, at least. Creepy voice, man :(.

Will the next episode be the final for this phase.. I mean there is Kill vs Amori's and Leorio/Ponzu thing.. I think it can fit into 1 episode

hey guys, here some comment from the director of the new anime

http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-6745.html

TemplateR@MangaHelper forum give some translation

"From what I could make out with the director for the anime says the real fun is yet to come or something. The problem of the how dark the series gets and making it acceptable for the time slot it's in is brought up, but the director says he wants to remain as close to the atmosphere of the original anime/manga as possible. I do see something about the atmosphere drastically changing with the introduction of the Genei Ryodan."

This is a really good news

It was a good episode , they did some scenes better than the original (Hisoka aura) however ,they should have done the whole Hisoka scenes in night time.
The background music ruined the episode for me, they should have put something that fits the situation not some poc with the awful Hisoka theme. The original ost fits perfectly , it enhance the feeling of nervousness and the seriousness of the situation . I am waiting for someone to put the ost of the original in the new Hisoka scenes. It will fit much better.

This was a pretty awesome episode. I loved Hisoka's epic rape face(stop complaing folks it was just like in the manga) after talking with Kurapica and Leorio, and he looked pretty insane when he went in for the kill like that. Was kinda sad they didn't show Hisoka holding the guy's head like in the manga, but this worked pretty well and was fairly violent for it's timeslot.

One thing I found interesting though was the thing with the butterfly being trapped in the web since I know that wasn't in the manga. I thought it was a pretty interesting metaphor to the kind of situation Gon is in now thanks to Hisoka letting him live...

I never really like that guitar theme. The atmosphere could've been better if a more fitting music was played. I think the old anime did better when it came to building the atmosphere and tension. Gon was also more terrified in the old anime. And I really want Hisoka's smexy perverted gay voice back. With that deep, serious voice he just sounds like a generic villain.

One good thing though, it's cool that they stretched the scene where Gon was waiting for Hisoka to attack by focusing on him trying to hide his presence. In the previous episodes they were giving too much screentime on insignificant scenes.

The hate you guys :< The BGM is epic.

Stop comparing it to the old one. Just try watching this series as something else that you've never watched before. Judge it objectively. I hate it when you guys are always like ''IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL''. Can't you just FORGET about the original and just watch this with a clear mind? If you liked the original so much then go watch the original. I see no reason for you to be here endlessly bashing the new qualities of this new series.

It seems to me that the only reason you guys are even here is solely because of old/new series comparison. Just try watching this like as if the old series didn't exist. The only thing you should be comparing this to is the manga. That is all.

Bgm..... epic??

They are in like.. the forest and suddenly you hear some rock music, what the fuck. I find it a little off.

I have to disagree. That BGM fit that scene perfectly, it created the mood of the scene and filled it with action and excitement. Imagine if that BGM wasn't there at that moment. That scene would have looked so dull. I really don't want to go off and compare it to the old series but you guys are forcing me to. I did watch the old series and just now I watched it again hoping that I could find any justice in what you were saying, but I am afraid it just doesn't come to par with the new one.
The BGM used in the new one delivers the scene in a more ''epic'' manner. Using the rock music intensified the action at that moment.

This was pretty awesome and intense. I actually did a leap of praise when Gon got the tag, mind blown. I thought he would fail and have to fight Hisoka, not snatch it and run. And great thing Hisoka is pretty nebulous, to give Gon the tag and his other.

Hope we get great Killua action next episode.

Is this going to do the whole manga?

"I want to be your friend!" Then Killua's response. :D

As long as they keep Killua's and Hisoka's epicness, it should be okay. It's a shame they have to tone it down because of the timeslot though.

Now a Pirates of the Caribbean-Ripoff Track? This OST is so wrong.

Other than that, the episode was ok. Hisoka's facial expressions weren't nearly as good as in the manga (and the last one, when Gon didn't want to accept the tag, was left out completely), but they were good. Gave me a good thrill of Hisoka Awesomeness.

It's not like I really expected for Gereta's chopped off head to be shown. :x

I really enjoyed watching Hisoka's reactions in the original anime series. When he was fighting off his bloodlust in the previous one he looked like he was almost having a heart attack since the ectasy was so intense.

In the new series they dumbed down his facial expressions, where was the part where his pupil was rolling around while he was struggling to keep his eye lids shut?

In all honesty, the re-make doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as the original so far but then again I'm biased as I've seen the entire previous series.

It was also creepier when he came back with the other hunters cap instead of the body.

3/5.
