@GangsterCat Bro is a genius through and through. All that was just a facade in the first episode.

Yea it ended up being a great romcom.
From the LN I already gathered that I would enjoy it, however the animation studio did a great job and made me enjoy it even more than I thought I would.

What I'll probably do is catch up with the rest of the volume's since I have been craving a more relaxing romcom lately.

@aurora_yuuki I would say the main reason is due to getting busy with IRL stuff mainly.
Unfortunately a person has X amount of hours in a day , so a person ends up choosing between things you really want to read/play/watch.

I think the LN's 1st volume was really good, just at the time I was also reading other LN's etc. so it was lower down on my priority list and "fell off".
I'll try and make time for it though since I really enjoyed the anime and am curious to see where things go from here on.

Ten episodes being an otaku/horny brocon and then going all Machiavellian while making cringe cunning faces during the last two episodes... man, talk about awkward tonal shifts. Yuki still carries tho.
And seriously, what the hell were those speeches? As someone previously said, there was absolutely no substance in them.

But well. Cringe facial expressions between siblings aside, I gotta say it was still a somewhat okay-ish finale. Considering it would be mostly about Student Council politics and stuff, it didn't end up being as unbearable as I was anticipating. Despite depending enterally on Masachika once again, Alya didn't freeze mid-speech so a tiny bit of character development was there and the conclusion with her and Masachika getting all flustered because of the first name stuff was cute to some extent.
Now that said, no way Alya didn't realize Masachika understood her Russian at the end lol. Come on, girl.

Overall, I would say this show ended up being fairly mediocre for me. First couple of episodes featuring purely goofy character shenanigans and fanservice were okay but things sure got less and less enjoyable once the "SCP elections" storyline was introduced. Storyline that ended up being nothing but boring and unnecessary within a narrative that tried to take itself too seriously at times. Personally, I think everything would have been more entertaining if the tone of the first episodes stayed the same and the story didn't try to become a diluted mix between Classroom of the Elite and Kaguya-sama: Love is War.

5/10 - Well, a sequel was already announced... and guess I will watch it? I'm still not sure. Production values were impressive, and Yuki and Masha were fun characters so maybe?

Loving may be a bit too much. I guess it was worth watching the series for Alya since her character made me feel something.

Ever go on a summer road trip with your family as a kid? That feeling where you're super hyped the night before and at the start of the trip, but then it just kinda blends into a blur of cornfields and tedium passing by the window halfway through, only occasionally interrupted by the appearance of a roadside attraction to spice things up? That pretty much sums up my thoughts on this anime.

Started off decent enough but just became a yawn-inducing blur along the way. Nothing more than an average 5/10 to me.

It´s over guys Wednesday´s won´t be the same without our beloved Wincest Queen and Ice princess.

Overall I think this was the best romcom of 2024 so far. There´s very good comedy between the characters, each character had a unique personality with the highlight of the season our Wincest Queen Yuki, visuals look phenomenal with an amazing OP and 12 different ED´s as well as a decent story.

The finale was decent enough for setting up the next arc, as well as seen some improvements towards Alya and Kuze-kun´s relationship. Can´t wait for S2 which has already been announced.

@Darkzepheran S2 will be PEAK. Episode 1-4 & 8-12. And Episode 4 & 12 will be the highlight of the season.

@Cosplay_Joe Yep. There's enough content to animate two full seasons of the LN. I guess you knew that already.

Us LN readers saw it coming from a mile way, the announcement of a sequel. I mean, the LN is one of the best-seller in Japan, constantly cracking Top 5, so it's not hard to see why.
@aurora_yuuki The LN's are constantly cracking the top 5? That's great! Looks like it's as well loved in Japan as elsewhere. 😁

And once again, the season ends and this time we start with one of my favorites.

Man, I really liked this show but I have to say that as much as I liked Alya in the first episode, once we see the real Yuki in the second episode, she stole the show. Alya was still fun but she was not even close to the best girl Yuki. I love that gremlin so much, I'm gonna miss her.

Also, special mention for Masha's seiyuu. I was already a fan of Rona's (Tsukimichi) and Kayoko's (Blue Archive) voice and I loved hearing a cute version of it.

Sad to see this show go but great to have news of a second season already. Looking forward to it.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

This show was in my top list at the beginning of the season, despite it being yet another highscool anime it had a great premise with a likeable male lead and a fun sassy tsundere heroine, spice it up with good humor, memes and over the top bro-con humor from yuki and it was a sure bet to be among the anime of the season.

Then, the whole subplot of the student council elections got shoved in and the interesting parts about the show became the most dull plot with pseudo-politics in highschool. The show tried so hard to be some sort of classroom of the elite (which is an absolute dogshit title imho) and edgy characterizations from behalf Yuki & Kuze here and there. Not to mention among the dullest support characters surrounding the whole student council arc (at least I admit the Hayasaka wannabe sidekick was quite interesting though).

This whole finale was a snoozefest in all it's assets, from dull directing and cinematography with boring long panniing shots and washed out colors, to dumb pretentious speeches on the podium. For real, Alyssa's speech boiled down to just about her promising to be the best person she can be and become the student council prez, and Yuki's speech was just filled with ridiculous nonsensical empty promises (reminded me of Homer Simpson promising the garbage trucks picking up the trash at every hour) I seriously don't know how or why would all those kids applaud like she gave a convincing speech a true politician would give.

I still had fun watching this show in the early stages, and hope it gets back on the horse. So I'll give it a 6.5/10 and just lower my expectations for season 2.

This series dipped for me when it was less about Alya hiding her feelings in Russian and this finale felt weak up to and including Yuki's speech, but Alya's beginning her speech in Russian, both something she's comfortable with and grabs the audience's attention) raised my rating up a notch.

"I dumped Yuki’s sorry ass." πŸ‘

Nice segue into the ending, too.

The show was dull overall. Started cute with first couple episodes but quickly fell into either stupid fanservice and incest bait or boring student council stuff. Stupid family drama where the sister has to win a high school competition for the family honor or some BS. The two leads still sometimes had good interactions but for such a tryhard Alysa was so often pathetic and failing over and over so Masachika could save her. Bleh.

It also got to the point where his hiding the fact that he understands Russian just felt like trickery to me, like he's spying on her feelings. Lying about his family too, about his sister. Started to feel a bit distasteful. 5/10. Watching any more of this probably will depend what else there is to watch the season it airs.

It's not so much as the role of the SCP, but what being elected means to the characters. Both Alya and Yuki want to prove themselves, so this relatively prestigious position is an opportunity for them to do so. I would compare it to the competitiveness in sports.

I could be totally wrong about this, but if a character is talking to you normally, and suddenly they switch to a language you don't understand, then the natural reaction is to direct your attention to the person speaking in the foreign language and look at them. I think this was Alya's intention of saying it in Russian. Kuze slipped up, but the convenience of the situation makes it so that 'looking up' was coincidentally the correct response even if he didn't understand her.

Do we really care who gets to be the SCP? Does it even matter when the gang sticks together regardless? I don't think so.
It's not so much as the role of the SCP, but what being elected means to the characters. Both Alya and Yuki want to prove themselves, so this relatively prestigious position is an opportunity for them to do so. I would compare it to the competitiveness in sports.

Crazy how at the end Masachika forgot to act confused and listened to the Russian "Look ahead", practically giving away the fact that he speaks Russian.

Actually we care but it's gonna be explained in season 2 as we learn Yuki's motives.

[RANT WARNING - Skip if you don't want to hear negative thoughts about the anime]

This anime was a really frustrating watch. I really like Alya's backstory and find her personality very relatable as I have similar flaws. So I enjoyed ep3 a lot, and I appreciated that they showed Alya still struggling with her interpersonal skills in ep4 in a difficult situation. I also didn't mind Kuze going to help Alya despite because he gave into her moment of weakness. Up until this point, my only gripe is how Alya started crying (which is somewhat understandable given her circumstances), but then absolutely no one in the room notices. It was quite sad to see, but they're in the heat of the argument, so it's fine.

The problems all start from here. Alya displays zero character growth, and her relationship development with Kuze is heavily inconsistent:

After ep4, the only event that resounded with me was Yuki’s “attack” on Alya in ep11. Her manipulation of the situation was exactly the wake up call that the Kuze-Kujo duo needed before the Closing Ceremony, and it was intentional on her part because, as Kuze mentioned, she specifically chose a timing that would deliver Alya mental damage without actually hurting her reputation as a candidate. I highly doubt Kuze would have been as prepared or involved in the Closing Ceremony if it weren’t for Yuki wanting to beat him at his best, so he and Alya could’ve suffered a major loss here if they were caught sleeping. There wasn’t necessarily a guarantee that her manipulation would lead to Kuze getting fired up to help Alya recover, but if this was all it took to make them crumble, were they really a threat in the first place? Overall, this was a well thought-out plot point, and I really liked it.

In the end, am I still interested in the Suou family drama? Yes.
Do I think they will show actual character growth from Alya in S2? Yes (I mean with a speech that basically stated “I will get better. Watch me,” it better happen).

So I’m still going to be watching at least halfway through season 2 because this was essentially just a prologue and the anime had some unique aspects to it, but this season has not been a particularly satisfying watch. I will still hope for the best because I like to give authors the benefit of the doubt if it looks like they're cooking something that could eventually be special.

@DragyG But if they choose to adapt until the epilogue of V6 for S2, the ending would be quite underwhelming and would feel unfinished. That's the impression I had upon finishing V6 and starting to read the prologue of V7.

Remember you are binge reading cuz you have a delay compared to the publishing rythm and that you judge v6's end by the way V7 starts.
