@Prox1mately Rachel threw Bam off and wanting to kill him due to Headon/Yu Hansung stating that Rachel had to get rid of Baam to be able to go to the top of the tower, and ultimately she wanted to be a star and was jealous of Bam being the star so she wanted to take his role and committed to throwing him off. Baam survived with Hwaryun the red hair chick and she offered to help him reach the top of the tower with him joining her after he was betrayed. At the minimum, he wants answers from Rachel for why she did what she did, and that involves him having to climb the tower. He's got friends there too that he wants to catch up to as well additionally primarily and doesn't exactly love the tower since it forced Rachel to act like this and betray him in the process. That's the extent I can say about that part without spoiling further info.

TImeskip is 6 years later and Rachel is travelling with Khun Aguero and the rest that passed the second floor at the end of season 1 and advancing up the tower so that is why there is a focus on other characters this time around that are on their own journeys to advance the tower for the time being with Jyu Viole Grace and Ja Wangnan being the main characters in this part of the journey. More info (some very obvious compared to others) will be revealed but did as much as I can without spoiling.

@MangagnaM Alright, thanks for the spoiler tag but that'st he answer I was looking for. Much appreciated that you took the time to explain without spoiling too much. <3

@GTRaijin Because story was constructed this way, but if it would make things better for you - after this first mini arc they would explain everything what happened in between the seasons
@LG545 This is a mistake however. Good anime adaptations change or shift the story to fit the medium while bad adaptations only copy 1 to 1 the panels and call it a day. A lot of people don't understand that some things only work in a reading medium and translate terribly if they are not properly adapted for something animated.

Take for example the intention of the author of changing perspectives for this season. The "world building", if you can even call it that, lasts less than 5 minutes. From the moment we meet this new blonde character to where he meets Bam. This might've worked reading the manhwa, but it absolutely does not work when you are watching it animated. You can't expect viewers to care or engage with a new character in a life or death situation if you only just knew about his existence 5 minutes ago.

So they could've made two choices here.

The first one would be to completely skip the introduction of this blonde character and go straight to when the blonde is taking his final attempt test. This way you let the viewers slowly realize that this new edgy guy there is Bam, shifting the focus away from the blonde character that viewers don't care for.

The second choice would be to properly expand on the world of Floor 20 and set up this new blonde character as one more of those who want to climb the Tower. And then end of the episode, reveal that this extremely strong person is in fact grown up Bam when he mentions that there is no need for a vote.

Instead we got a 1 to 1 adaptation that ends up extremely jarring because of what I explained before.

as an episode on it's own, it was fine, but as an opening episode it was lacking. some intrigue there but it's really hard to say that it got me hyped for the season.

The edge on Bam has been increased. The sauce in the art style of the animation has gone and now it looks like just like any other generic anime but that doesn't bother me at all. But, that was something I really enjoyed about the show.

Anyway, it was a good start. The new guy is cheerful but he managed to get past this round finally. Good for him. Also, the other guys who were there with him.

The art now looks a lot better than before. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the content. It feels like season one spend so much time developing the characters and weeding out the trash, so I don't really see why we need a new batch.

Might just be a bad start to the season though. I hope that's the case.

The little kid girl REALLY reminded me of a certain Tokyo ghoul character... anyone else?

I didn't like the style as much as S1. So much less flair and more idk bland looking? Even though S1 wasn't amazing for me or anything, but some of the important scenes were impactful for me and I liked the art style for the designs quite a bit. The ED and OP seem like straight downgrades tbh. If I looked forward to anything from S1 weekly it was those songs/visuals but this was really mid.

We'll see ig.

I really hate it when good studios get replaced with worse ones tbh... First AOT, then Golden Kamuy and now this? When will the suffering end.

Average to bellow average. There was nothing in here that stood out or would suggest that this show is something special. Animation, inscenation, the recycled music tracks - everything felt cheap. I really hope this will change quickly since S1 was truly special.

I honestly don't know why I even try to watch these shows. Most of the time I just drop it after a few episodes, but there was something that seemed to pull me to finish the first season. This is an issue I see in pretty much anything adapted from manwah/webtoon. Every single character is annoying. I honestly can't see how people actually enjoy watching these things, but everyone's entitled to their opinions and I respect that. I feel like it boils down to cultural differences, and there's always a big chance I'll just drop anything that came out of Korea or China. It's like the isekai trend times 1000. But hey... the adaptation can't be good if the original work never was, right?
@Yoshiru Really? I've only felt that with the Unordinary webtoon, which ironically isn't korean or chinese. With annoying you mean they feel unnaturally ultracompetitive and edgy or what is it?

this kinda fucking sucked. i absolutely loved the first season, but not having read the manhwa, i can't speak for how faithful of an adaptation it was. but holy shit. i despise the new animation style this new studio is doing, it feels like a poor imitation of how blue lock's anime looks. i'm assuming the story will make more sense in a few episodes, but i have no hope of them reviving the S1 art style.

i desperately hope the season just had a rough start.
because there is no way they spent four years making THIS.

Oh my goodness after 4 years Tower of God is BACK!!

I remember reading this season way back after Season 1 was finished and i barely remember anything of the story beside how the new characters looks like.

Season 2 is gonna be totally different than Season 1.

This first episode was a little confusing, it feels like the jump from season 1 to season 2 being completely different stories. Hopefully they'll address this in the next episodes.

As for the episode the animation style feels a little different from season 1 and the pacing felt a little rushed.

i almost forgot about season 1 but re-watched it before seeing the season 2 .... so the first ep was good not great but good enough to enter after the last cliffhanger and the animation is also pretty above average so all an all it was a good ep...

I hate the fact that they changed the art style. Last season's art style was beautiful, the choice of colors, and the outlines. That aside, I'm loving Yoru's character development.

It is a shame that they haven't included a bird eye shot of the Test City Ship of the 20th Floor. That could helped providing a great sense of scale of the world:

I’m starting to think I need to rewatch S1. I know it’s been 4 years but typically I’m not this clueless about a 2nd season 1st episode. Convinced after watching E2 which seems to be something I shouldn’t have watched based the comments. Oh well, it’ll be here to restart when I’m finished with S1 again.

An improvement in every aspect.

I am glad to see the series has returned.
With growth on all levels of its adaptation to a different medium.

The previous season had high production value.
Yet lacked adaptability to the screen. In so many key parts.
That it didn't fall short it was bad.

Here? They brought even better animation.
A fantastically executed OP.
Alongside its corresponding novel credit sequence.
That was structured as its ED.

Paying homage to the adapted panels from source.
With their own animated adaptation.

Solid solid and solid again.

This is what we needed. To do the series and its setting.
Appropriate justice in an anime form.

They keep this up. And there won't be any complaints.

Clearly the time lag between the past season.
Was used to the fullest and that shows.

I am looking forward to their quality. Now with an execution to back its run.

@waldy713 How can you say that this season has improved in everything when there has been a notable downturn:
-the animations look like a Power Point except for the lighting effects that are not always well integrated
-the op was just a slideshow with some pngs
-You feel that feeling of rush that you felt in season 1 again...
I don't know how you can say that this season is ok, when from the 1st episode they've already done everything wrong and as you can see people are complaining about it... either you're a troll or you don't really understand anything about anime

This episode relies excessively on camera movements over static images, and the character animation feels painfully rigid even during dialogue scenes. The new character design is not a problem, everything else is.

@Gen_616 To be fair, they did show Rachel and Baam in the webtoon as well after he got on the elevator. Doing an actual mystery with a main character's identity is useless to us viewers but its meant to be a mystery to the others in the actual series. People who are interacting with him right now from this ep and who is he exactly, people who went up the tower and wondering what on earth happened to him. You can visually see him having a similar design besides just longer hair so the webtoon wasnt trying to be overly subtle either. In a visual medium, unless they absolutely change everything about him besides the hair or if he just wore the mask of someone else the entire time, then its tough to pull that off. It has been 6 years but its not like he was old enough to magically grow a large beard either.
@MangagnaM You do have a point I just really liked how the SIU kept his best cards to his chest because it let the rest of the cast grow more which made for wonderful story telling

The Japanese dub felt somewhat clunky and clearly dubbed to me. The voices for a lot of the characters weren t what i expected either. The sound effects for the fight weren't good either. The animation was somewhat decent but far below expectations. This season wasn't even that good in the manhwa so I think it's gonna be even worse in this anime adaptation.
