i felt sorry for the director of arc

@todd2580 same, he's my favourite director to direct a super robot show. now he stuck doing anpanman movie :(

it makes sense, the original was really popular in those countries, it became the face of the mecha genre over there, it's fanservice in the truest sense of the word.

This was a disgrace. It's graphically horrible, the animation is very bad, the chara design is insulting (wtf Duke looks like his 14 y/o with a child's body?), the OP/ED are trash, there's is no tension at all in the BGM, no sense of danger, or grandeur.
Sorry for being so direct and rude, sorry to all of you who enjoyed it, but I felt offended by this reboot.
The biggest crime, imo, is the total lack of charisma of every character. By the end, I was almost expecting Scooby-Doo to show up.

@Fortress_Maximus I've never watched the Grendizer anime, but I was hoping that I would get something that was both new and faithful to the old idea.

I don't get what people's problem with the Middle East setting is? What about it was cringe?

I found it pretty formulaic, but considering the series pedigree I wasn't exactly expecting anything revolutionary - in fact, I went into this expecting super robot and that's exactly what I got. And since I've been watching a ton of Gundam the past few years, it was a nice change of pace. The animation looked pretty good, the progression of story and what was happening kept me interested, I loved the modern interpretations of 70s design, and I thought the 3D mechs actually looked pretty nice. I do feel like I wish I would have seen Shin Mazinger Z or something, just so I know who Koji and Sayaka are and to get a better sense of the stakes and power scaling when seeing Mazinger defeated, but I also feel like it's kind of nice to experience this as its own thing.
