omg he still hasn't learned his lesson. And is still playing the cool guy while refusing to look at himself. And is still behaving like a jerk to other peoples around him, unable to thank peoples, unable to face his own mistake, unable to understand his wrongdoing, nope, nothing. Omg he's still doing it with innocent bystander. Yeah Subaru peoples understand you. It's you who are too full of yourself to understand that. . And now he'll be able to redo everything obviously. WIthout understanding his own mistake he'll be able to do things properly while still being a jerk and a douchebag. *SMH* |

I'm starting to form a really negative opinion of this show just because of Subaru. I hate his 'morals' and how he thinks that he, some plebeian knows what's best for Emilia. How disgusting. He went and got Rem killed by his negligence. And since he has the 'restart by death' he'll probably die and save her again. |

Subaru continues to sulk over his perceived insult, as things go south. some great put downs this episode towards Subaru who just cannot accept the fact he's nothing but the LOAD to his friends. he's not some mythical badass who can take his enemies apart yet despite knowing that he, like a fool, clings onto the belief that he is somehow the savior of Emillia. He maybe the protagonist to this video game-esque world but he's definitely not the hero, at least not yet. And wow! the world is harsh, i was waiting for it to punish Subaru for his failures but it instead went the opposite way and punished the ones closest to him. just hope Subaru learns the lesson and some humility within two more episodes, because while it's satisfying to see the world show him his worthlessness it's also discomforting when it's others who pay the price. P.S. those robed guys are so definitely the KKK of this world, just more indiscriminate. P.P.S. just because the world likes to screw over Subaru, i'm gonna bet that when he kills himself he will wake AFTER the Julius-humiliation. or at least i hope so, because that is something that should be saved in game history as it's a part of his character development. |

So Subaru learned absolutely nothing from the previous two episodes, and becomes an outright dick in this one. The way he treat Reinhard and Crusch is ridiculous. His stubborn decision making got Rem killed too, since it seemed she was trying to protect him from himself. I hope next time he dies, he wakes immediately following his argument with Emilia. He needs to go through that sword training, and he needs to handle this entire situation better, and look at his own flaws. What he said about Emilia during his discussion with Rem in the night, was outright despicable. He doesn't deserve any of the friendships he's making at this point. |

Oh my God Subaru's getting really fucking annoying. He's too stubborn and too obsessed with being with Emilia and keeping her safe. "Everyone around her is an enemy" "I'm the only one who can protect her" like who the fuck are you dude? I mean that's not entirely false but Subaru can't do shit. He's weak, arrogant and he doesn't learn. It's one thing to be weak but being weak and acting like you're strong? That's just too much. The only thing he does is die die die die and die until he figures something that will make him not die. And that's even an ability he didn't worked hard to get. Now for example that everyone's been massacred what's he gonna do? Die of course! |

[b]Subaru...you better PRAY you hadn't hit another checkpoint. Hopefully when you reset, you stop acting like a little impulsive and hostile asshole. Although... I wonder if that's the witch's influence? I mean, doesn't he seem a little....more controlled...and changed mentally? His mannerisms, his decisions... Intensity back in full throttle. P.S. Also, that's one sick new opening, better than the old one. P.P.S. Wow, do I envy Ferris' position. A servant to Crusch Karsten... (are any of you really surprised he's a trap though?) |

Dang Subaru, took you long enough to see that literally everyone died in that town, did he think he was walking in red water or that the people on the floor were sleeping? Whelp, time to reset yet again, you had a good run, until last episode and it all led to this. Now let's hope the "checkpoint" is before having the fallout with Emilia and all the other dumb stuff you had to do that day. Poor Rem though but at the same time, we'll see her again after a reset (I hope) |

After what happened, Subaru starts training to become a badass. Subaru couldn't say it to Reinhard's face. Can't go losing the only OP person you know. Subaru on Rem's lap. She wanted to stay. Oh snap! Holy crap! The healing has Rem letting Subaru motorboat her. Awesome! What? Propasal? Meaning someone is trying to marry Priscilla? NO!!!!! That rape smile. Rem in that nightgown. Rem on his back. Dat healing. Rem wants into the harem. Rem left him behind. Oh shit! KKK! Oh shit! They killed the villagers! Dat ED theme! REM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew there must have been a reason for Rem looking so cute in this episode. Priscilla in that outfit in the OP! LAWD! M&R slaying the OP and ED as expected! It took me over a week, but I'm back. Damn Summer heat making me fall asleep at night, thus ruining my binge watch schedule. |

I know Subaru is getting annoying with his unfounded belief that he is the only one who can protect and save Emilia and then royally screwing up but I think some of you guys forget how fucked up his life is, he has been through a ton of shit while simultaneously not being able to tell anyone about it. He has died multiple times and ended up resetting previous situations. These things are bound to create some sort of conflict in him and shatter his grasp on reality. Being unstable is only natural under these circumstances. |

Rewatching this after reading the fifth volume of the LN, they missed the point of the last part, in the adaptation it looks like Subaru was worried for Rem but in the LN he was actually hoping that by thinking of her she would be death (as revenge for leaving him behind) because at this point of time he believes that because he wanted something to happen to Emilia, all the deaths happened because he wished for them. (but the events would happen regardless of his wish) |

The deaths didn't happen because he literally wished for them, everything would happened regardless of what he did (Pete came to Roswwaal's domain after learning about Emilia once she reveal her existence (in the manga and LN one of his followers brought him a flyer with her face on it) at start of Royal Selection vol 4= ep 12 and 13 for ref) but yeah, he did want some kind of conflict to happen prove he was necessary out of pride and desperation. I think the anime more or less got that across tho not quite as clear as LN and WN. The part of about Rem isn't quite quite correct, because yes his first impulse was actually to mention Emilia instead of Rem when he saw the village destroyed, but part of that was that due to Subaru not wanting acknowledge the fact she was probably dead thus switched to Rem instead because it was easier for him to move on. |

Reading again my comment, I kind of fucked up the grammar of the last part, so yeah you are right. (will edit it a little at the end) I was trying to say that he believes at that point of time that everything happened because of his wish. (while everything would still happen regardless of it) And well, maybe my japanese is a little rough but what I interpreted at that part was that Subaru blocked every possible thought of Emilia out of his mind. For example, in this first cycle he found Ram's body, then went to Roswaal's office while deliberately ignoring Emilia's room. And in the second cycle he just wishes for revenge, while again not mentioning or thinking of Emilia at all. Finally, this is mentioned again while Subaru negotiates with Crusch, in the entire conversation he doesn't mention or think of Emilia at all (except when Crusch mentions her). Another thing that's being emphasized at this point of time is Subaru thinking about the events at the castle, when he was shunned because of his lack of strength, so he starts hating on anyone that makes a comment or do something that makes him think he is being shunned because of his lack of strength. That's why I interpreted his call for Rem as revenge, not because he could not cope with the fact that Emilia might be death. But again, I will take into account your interpretetion while reading. I'd like if you could tell me if my points form above are right or if I missed something. |

Itachi_0893 said: I was trying to say that he believes at that point of time that everything happened because of his wish. (while everything would still happen regardless of it) Oh, yes you're right. He basically says this to Rem in episode 18 tho she doesn't understand what he means. Specifically the fact he wrecked his relationship with Emilia to hide his anxiety about self worth (this one of reasons if not the main one he fought with Julius). Which led to them being separately and being impossible at that point for him to reunite Emilia and convince her of the danger (and the rest for village), Rem being repeatedly killed. Not to mention all his failures of trying to convince the other candidates to help him and effectively burning bridges with them which again, because his lack of confidence in himself due to everyone else being amazing in someway. Basically he felt his adequate caused these results because he couldn't do anything about them due his lack of power. And well, maybe my japanese is a little rough but what I interpreted at that part was that Subaru blocked every possible thought of Emilia out of his mind. Yeah, I as said it was because he couldn't bare the thought of Emilia dying again. Remember Arc 3 is the first time in a long time since he had seen Emilia die (not even since Arc 1). So it had a larger effect on him to the point it put him in escapism mode. And the with conversation Crusch that actually a separate issue, it because after last loop when Pete in the cave for first time and found out he was the one behind the in the first massacre on top of killing Rem in front him, Subaru completely obsessed with just killing him more saving everyone else. Basically he was now just driven with rage rather than noble intentions which cause Crusch to not work with him among other reasons. Before he got to the village in the first loop, he was indeed initially angry with Rem, because he took her leaving him behind in Fleur (the town they stopped over) she also saw him as burden like he thought everyone else did. The anger disappear tho when he finds her body. Aside form his shell shock his dialogue is also along the lines of "I-I didn't... mean..." basically broken speech. Basically he didn't view her death like that and started to blame himself for it because she got caught in the battle by going on ahead to protect him. But again, I will take into account your interpretetion while reading. I'd like if you could tell me if my points form above are right or if I missed something. For the most part your understanding is pretty much on the mark with a few inaccuracies. Although my Japanese is sadly pretty mediocre too I would be happy to help clarify what I can. |

Oh yeah, MC didn't kill himself, didn't even try to reload worst part in his "adventure', he is only whining and reacting to everything just like he hasn't got any SPECIAL abilities. Any problem he mess with and he is just crying and asking for help when in fact he can change EVERYTHING in one second. What, he doesn't like to die? Then how about some chemical way for painless death? No, it's impossible because MC unbelievable stupid and good only in making enemies. So, we have in this anime some kind of Ku Klux Klan which oriented on non-human races. I don't want to believe that this ridiculous MC won't kill himself in next episode with such ending... |

Last time you got shit bitten out of you with a wooden sword... Do it over? Well in that case why not wait, learn more and see what happens first? Someone important dies? Do it over. Why start trouble before one happens?! Subaru was ok at first but now he is turning into Shirou from F/SN whom I despise with passion and it's been years since I watched those series. My annoyance about Subaru is way too strong to care about shock ending -_- he can protect her cause of hes time loop power, all are dead so new hes only choice is kill himself & go there sooner & find out what happened & die couple of time investigating it so he did right not listening to her orders cause in this EP u so what happened cause he did it for once but he was 2late with deciding to ignore this order & see what happened all dead so he did wrong by not ignoring her order sooner primaltare said: [b]Subaru...you better PRAY you hadn't hit another checkpoint. Bruh, what the fuck happened to that village? Why am I having a feeling that it's the same people who killed the entire village of Ram and Rem back then? What the fuck. So, the village and the mansion was attacked because some people are against Emilia being one of the candidates to be the next Queen? How fucked up are you? I think I found the most annoying main character ever. Seriously, I feel like I'd rather watch Yuno saying "Yukkii" for two hours than watching one more episode with this shithead. I'm praying for him to get some sense knocked into him soon. Very soon, I think can't stand this for much longer. |

Subaru could write the definite guide on "how to make enemies and alienate friends". So he is training with the old man. Great. I said last chapter that he should be training and low and behold, he is doing it this episode. One episode too late, as always, and he is doing it for the wrong reasons. A complete loser with so little to show for except his gigantic ego *sigh* But really, I do not get why everyone is so nice to him (other than the MC armour). Rem, wake up, the guy doesn't deserve even a speck of your attention. Reinhard and the knight who gave Subaru a beating should just let Subaru rot. Emilia should kick him out of her life. Karsten does come across as the most fitting ruler at the moment. If I am to think of a potential weakness, she might be a bit too much by the book. But I so think that there would be law and order under her rule, based on current impression (Emilia would be a just ruler, but I am not sure if she'd be respected at the moment). Nane13 said: I think I found the most annoying main character ever. Seriously, I feel like I'd rather watch Yuno saying "Yukkii" for two hours than watching one more episode with this shithead. I am not sure if I am ready to crown a new champion with Subaru, though I can totally see the temptation. I swear that 95% of my posts on episodes relates to how disappointed I am with Subaru in various reasons - it is hard to focus on the episode with such a cringey MC (ans once upon a time, I thought that one could not do much worse than Shinji from Evangelion.. hah). Hmm, could we just have a world where Subaru's ability is effective but he is alone in the world with a bloodthirsty Yuno who believes that Subaru killed Yuki and the only way to get him back is for her to return the favour? |

The makers of this show certainly know how to make me want to watch the next episode as soon as I finish one. Happened with almost all of them, lol. Subaru went from a guy that I didn't mind to one I'm starting to hate. MCs who don't listen to others are always very annoying. The whole episode, the thing that I cared about the most was... the guy that took Subaru to the mansion, Otto. Because those Black KKK look-alikes seemed to go in his direction. It's obvious that Rem won't stay dead because she's too important, Otto seemed like a nice person and I hope he's not dead too. If Subaru dies none of this will have happened and won't matter anyway, so whatever. They changed the OP... well, I like the new one, but we saw the old one what, five times? Both the OP and ED were pretty good, I like the fact that they skip them so we have more story time, but I wish we could've seen them more times. |

-Reinhardt came to him in good faith and he brushed him off. Value your limited acquaintances in these situations man. -Crusch was given some development and a positive portrayal. She's actually rather caring it appears. -Subaru didn't learn from the events of the previous episode whatsoever -.- Impulsiveness and recklessness have lead him to disaster. Crusch said to look forward, but that doesn't mean rush in head-first without any sort of strategy and care. That being said, even if Rem were somehow alive due to him staying back, this massacre might lead him to redo anyway depending on who else were killed. -Poor Rem, developing feelings for Subaru even though she knows whom his heart belongs to :/ -I like the OP and the ED taking on darker tones to match the gravity of the events transpiring. -Black-robed klansmen on the move, and clearly they could detect the Witch's scent on him. -The village :( |

I don't like Subaru that not in the slightest. He's overconfident, super selfish and has to much pride like we could see in the scene with Reinhard. Crusch looked nice in that dress. The conversation she had with him was good but I don't know it feels weird. Why does he think he can solve everything and why does he refuse to recover his gate? That's also the reason why he didn't understood what Wilhelm was abou to tell him. And now these worrying things Rem felt through her sister. At that moment I had a bad feeling. The moment with Rem was nice but holy moly that ending was disturbing. Who where these weird persons who appeared before Subaru? Why are all the people in the village dead. Some of them got burned.... Of course to top it even more Rem....this can't be ;_; I'm shocked. What's the reason for all of it? Where's Ram and Emilia? So much questions. |

Alright, at this point I'm not only in disbelief over the coin-flip shift in Subaru's character (and by extension, everything tied to it) but I'm failing to see where the defense of it in this thread even matters. I know I'm quoting an old post here, but I would find it to be in worse taste to effectively talk about this post's points without the poster knowing, and because I do want to know if I missed something important. Just posting personal thoughts in these threads rarely sparks discussion for anime that's past its airing. Fappa said: I'm surprised that some people don't see how Subaru not grasping the situation he is in nor learning from last episode is a sign for his mental illness. He is literally mentally broken right now which results in this lost sense of reality. He has become fanatic in his idea of reality, his idea of truth that he rejects everyone who tries to deny that truth. On the one side the words of Emilia resonate in his head and keep bringing him down to reality but on the other side Subaru lives in denial towards the truth. This clearly show us that this whole obsession with Emilia is no mere quirk in his personality no it actually has reached a scale where you can call it a mental illness. He rejects anything that goes against his own truth and even the people themselves. He interprets others' attempts at trying to keep him safe as shortsighted or that they think nothing of him. And not only that, he justifies it all by reasons that no one else will ever trust. The issue I have with this (and from whom I've talked to elsewhere I'm not the only one with this issue) is that Subaru has appeared to abruptly toss out most of his own ideals in favor of something that came out of the blue. As late as episode 11 he was talking about how weak he knew he was, how dumb and uninformed he knew he was, how he has to lean on others to get anywhere, and his actions have supported these notions. Moreover, the crux of Arc 2 was that he was largely seen as untrustworthy and that he needed to first gain trust to then resolve things with the help of others, which he also appeared to realize. Then, with all of this said and done, he suddenly decides to work as a solo actor against complete strangers in political and combative capabilities he already knew he was in over his head with, while injured, while his friends he so desperately needed to lean on even attempt to continue their lives while he recovers? His one ace up his sleeve in this situation is his ability to go back and do things over (again, something he's consciously relied on before) so why rush? He went beyond stupid at the start of this arc, he went out of the character Arc 2 established. This is why it's hard to accept or understand what he did and why. His stubbornness? Absolutely fine, and one of the few things reinforced in Arc 2 that he held on to. His possessive obsession towards Emilia? Scummy, but still fine as it reinforces his actions from Arc 1 in a new way. His insistence on doing everything himself? Not fine, he expressed that he needed to do the exact opposite no that long ago, and acted in ways that matched that knowledge. His "justification" that no one trusting him makes them wrong? Still not fine, as he also learned and acted upon the knowledge that he wasn't inherently trustworthy and needed to gain that trust first. Case in point: Fappa said: No one can believe in that or even cares enough about Emilia to be her ally. Note how every person who tried to talk against his own beliefs got majorly rejected by him. Reinhard…Kadomon ( Apple merchant ), Crusch & Ferris and at last Rem. Personally I love that development or rather the negative development as this is how humans are sometimes, especially in a mentally unstable condition. They become stubborn and don’t give up on their belief until they have to pay a prize for it. Of course this is taken to an extreme level in anime but it replicates a natural development. Reinhard: They barely know each other. In the handful of conversations they've had they've spent maybe 5 minutes with each other? Is this even a trust issue instead of simply not knowing each other very well? Kadomon: They know each other even less. IIRC Subaru didn't find his lost child in this "timeline" either. If you ask me, Kadomon has acted more trusting towards Subaru than he deserves. Crusch: As far as we know, they've only even talked once outside of politics. Outside of that Crusch made it clear that she doesn't like Emilia and was allowing him to stay for the sake of a contract we don't know the details of. Why would she trust her enemy's friend? Felix: Who even is Felix? All we even know about him at this point is that he's some sort of cat-human hybrid, is a skilled healer, and may as well just be the token trap. For that matter, what do Felix and Subaru even know about each other? What reason does Subaru have to believe that Felix isn't just contractually obliged like Crusch is? That leaves Rem as the only character in the list that Subaru has any reason to believe trusts him in the first place (there's even some people who find her trust poorly founded, but I'm not one of them so that's besides my point). Yet it still falls in line with the same reasoning that Subaru ignored to get into this mess: he's injured, he needs to rest. I understand that he's not in his right mind at this point and is seeing this from a deluded perspective, but I can't accept the progression that got him to this point and so that understanding is irrelevant. Even if he can justify all of this by thinking "they don't trust me, so I can't trust them", Arc 2 Subaru would have realized that most of these people don't have much reason to trust him, that building trust could help him here. Let's not forget that even Rem distrusted him enough to kill him at least once. Fappa said: You can actually see how he starts to develop some kind of escapism when he walks through the village. Subaru opens the door the first time how there is a corpse sitting in the chair but Subaru just stares at it and closes the door. The second door he opens bumps against a corpse. You can hear the foot steps walking through blood. In these very first seconds Subaru lives in denial to what actually has happened here. He started to develop some sort of escapism but got knocked out of it once he physically interacted with one of the corpses and perceived the horror around him completely. Watching that scene, it looked like he was affected by it not when he tripped on a corpse, but when he realized that the smoldering heap in the village center was a pile of burnt copses. I don't see why he would be affected by regular corpses much in the first place, he's seen people die gruesomely already and has personally experienced hideous deaths involving disembowelment and dismemberment. While I'm sure some of the complaints made are from viewers who have missed things (there's been subtle hints towards future developments since Arc 1 after all) some of us from this perspective would have to believe that Subaru is experiencing severe selective amnesia to accept the actions he took that brought him here, and from what I saw there's no event between episode 11 and episode 12 that would justify him forgetting so much before his castle faux pas. It's after this that he gets into the argument with Emilia and displays the first obvious outward signs of mental ills, so why does it matter before that? He never considered forcing Emilia away from Roswaal's domain in Arc 2, so his obsessiveness simply wasn't as bad before episode 11 either. At this point I'm convinced that the author wrote Arc 1, started writing Arc 3, realized that Subaru was basically a bum in this world and started Arc 2 so that he'd have a job, went on a tangent with Rem & Ram when he had a cool idea with them, then came back to Arc 3 by inserting Rem at various points and not changing anything else. Either that or White Fox had no idea what they were doing with this adaptation's scripting. |

Subaru's dedication is commendable but at times, his pigheadedness is vexing!😣 I guess anyone can do wonders when it matters to love. It's as if nothing else can say could stop him when it involves Emilia! I wonder how Subaru's going to regress all that and save everyone. |
She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did! |

The cute moments Subaru and Rem share are truly bliss and the tone shift towards the end, this series knows how to push the right buttons. |

What a despair episode. With how the preview scenes looks like, i believed Subaru might be do a suicide to restart the whole episode to pin point the mistake. Shit. Here we go again the loop time event to solved the mystery behind the disaster of their homeland among the election path Emillia's chosen. Once again, Subaru's must pass through that shit, for once or never. Its time to go back! Atleast Subaru had a great bonding time with Rem, and it will arouse again in the near future. Nice! And some improvement of his sword skill. Its good to know that to increased the possible chance Subaru's had survived through the insecurity among the loop time events.... |

lamictal said: "Without me, it would've been a lot worse!" "All of it was because I was there!" "The moment I leave her side, this happens?" "She needs me by her side." "I can save her." "I'll fix things." "Emilia is hopeless without me." "I thought that you would understand me..." ^ all within the same episode is this a joke? It just means the author succeeded where he wanted to. :D Subaru suffers from a literal nice guy complex, the whole: "I did so much for her, so she has to be on my side". At this point in the story, he thinks of Emilia as some goddess who can totally understand him without him needing to explain anything to her. It all went downhill after she gave him that lap-pillow to calm him nerves, when he was losing his grip during their time in the mansion. So he thought Emilia just feels all of his burdens, or sees through him. It also doesn't help his case when Emilia was being a little too forgiving towards him during that time, standing up for him when he was under suspicion by everyone and so on. Thus, it all festered over the period of one month before they went to the royal court and we start to see how his mentality had progressed. To be fair, he has gone through harrowing stuff and the plot device of Satella stops him in his tracks from explaining his situation too. However, it doesn't take away from the fact that he is simply drunk with his own ego, aside from his frustration around not being given a chance to explain it all. |
