| Maomao can be pretty too. Jinshi got a nice expression when he saw her. Got me smiling and giggling. The ladies did a great job. I'm surprised the freckles are actually fake to prevent men for being interested in her. I thought there were only two main concubines, but there are actually four. I have to say, this show is amazing. I was initially going to take my time watching this but ended up watching all 5 episodes quickly. Just shows how damn good this show is. And thank goodness this is a 2 cour anime. |

| Maomao is so beautiful---well she's already beautiful with freckles but without it, she's totally gorgeous! And seeing Jinshi blush seems really authentic than him trying to smile pathetically to have her attention. I guess we'd seen both their true faces in this episode. I love this show! |

| Watching Maomao tackle problems with her knowledge and wits will never stop being fun but man, finding out what problem that the freckles were meant to solve was absolutely grim. Jinshi's reaction to her natural face was still hilarious tho, and it's neat how the doctor ended up being chill considering his and Maomao's first clash. |
| Can we stop pretending for a second, that Maomao with freckles was ever ugly? That's the same as giving an attractive girl glasses to pretend nobody would ever notice her beauty. And in which world would a r*pist ever not r*pe, just because he noticed a couple of freckles on a pretty persons face? Also...I'm kinda deeply appalled by Jinshis nonexisting sense of fashion. Didn't he notice that our girl was wearing matching gold accessoires? Why did he feel the need to destroy her perfect outfit with a clunky silver hair pin? The audacity! /s But generally a very nice episode. We really get to see how the people around Maomao on one hand trust and respect her while also overworking her to a degree for their own convenience. |

| @Tobimaroo unless they spend half of the season on the first novel (which I doubt), we will see it way earlier. And Luomen is her fraternal greatuncle for anyone interested. She calls him father because he was her guardian for the most of her life. And yes, he is one of a few people she actually cares of. |

| As Jinshi worries about Maomao, Gaoshun should keep his lips shut the more lols. Other than the aphrodisiac that was used on somebody, Maomao wants to grill some Matsutake mushrooms with the quack physician, though someone came in wnating to find a cure to his "curse", which is a rash that was caused by some wood writing tablets that had made the fire more combustible (from adding some elements) enough to cause a burn. Jinshi wanting to understand, but also kmew of the mushrooms enough to earn an ire of her, it initially semmed like a small business. Maomao's dress for the garden party, which invites the 4 emperor consorts (of the 3 plus Ah-Duo)...and Jinshi is expected to be there as well. What Maomao makes earns the interest of the other servants, though this is menial work that she is A-OK doing with that is tiredness inducing on her. And as expected, Maomao's servants gave her makeup, but that she removed it since it was applicable cosmetics, which is bested by her overall clothing personality. Maomao's look (from the OP) makes the debut, though she intentionally made her makeup, since she could be kidnapped or even worse, secually assaulted by the people alongside the brothels. It's for a reason, but why Jinshi gave her his hairpin, it's a sign of his love for her. As the garden party parades, trouble lurks... |

| Gross that one of the concubines is a literal child. The eunuch is faking in love with Mao Mao ๐ and gave her his hairpin!!!! How she needs to fall in love with him, but that’s very unlikely considering it’s not a romance *sigh*. Gyokuyou is absolutely beautiful, by far the prettiest concubine for sure! Hopefully the rash isn’t a huge dea which doesn’t seem to be one. It’s sad that Mao Mao had to draw on freckles so that she wouldn’t be sexually assaulted. That’s a sad past life. |

| maomao's relationship with jinshi irks me because, as gaoshun said, she's his favourite toy. and he just found out his doll is really pretty. but this is getting better every episode. i really like maomao and the way they've written her. we are always finding out stuff about her and it never feels forced. she's really cool headed and that bit when she said she wasn't mad at jinshi because her struggles weren't his fault was so good. it's nice to be watching this. ๐ค |

| I strongly suspect Jinshi no longer considers Maomao a "pawn" or a "toy". He clearly underestimated her; she even made him blush! Since Maomao was kidnapped and not legally sold though will the kidnappers still get a cut from her paycheck? That's like adding insult to.. kidnapping. And could she send word to her father that she's OK and living in the palace? The old man must be worried sick. In the next episode I wonder which concubine will try poisoning another - or all the others. |

| I just love the moment when Jinshi who normally does seducing gets charmed by Maomao's NATURAL beauty. Alhough the fake freckles add to her charm, the explanation of why she adds them further reflects the bleak conditions the common folk usually deal with which we usually don't see because the setting is within the shelters of the palace. |

| Yeah I was also surprised to learn that Maomao's freckles were fake but the reason is understandable. Also, I think that Jinshi actually felt guilty about Maomao being kidnapped and so he put the hairpin on her presumably to keep other guys away but I'm sure that will cause jealousy among other girls. |
| Maomao usual daily activities, cooking a delicious mushroom that only grow on japaness land and she looked very happy with that doctor. But wait a minute, isn't this a chinese land? More usual case arrived, easily get solved thanks to another wonderful Maomao experience to the problem. But seems like its lead onto another big fish to be found out, so, yeah, Maomao covert mission finally been found out too thanks to the garden party they needed to attend lmao. Its always being questioned by me, that the freckles on her nose actually stood too much that its suppose to be. Its really not a real freckles, but a make-up. The real face of Maomao revealed to be a damn natural pretty which for sure create another astonishing view to Jinshi. He even decided to mark her with that hairpin lmao what an obsessive man. All in all, i really need to remember my terms to Gyokuyou, since she actually still a concubine, like the other four. Since Emperor actually still not married and there's no consort yet, like what i understand the terms for Gyokuyou and the others were.... Very well then, my newbie mistake to the lore. So, garden party begin! |

| I really like the part where Jinshi, usually smooth with charming people, is impressed by Maomao's natural beauty. ๐คญ Even though those fake freckles add to her charm, the reason behind using them sheds light on the tough life common folks face—a side we don't usually see since the story is mostly set in the palace. Jinshi giving Maomao a silver hairpin isn't just a friendly gesture; it might signal to other guys that she's taken, especially considering its silver, often associated with someone important. The hairpin seems to act as a protective charm. Jinshi must have felt bad that Maomao has to resort to fake freckles for safety. Gyokuyou's advice about avoiding "bad bugs" makes more sense if she's trying to protect her ladies-in-waiting from unwanted attention by marking them as hers with jewelry. The fact that Gyokuyou understands these dangers might hint that she didn't grow up in a castle as a princess—or perhaps had some similar experiences for various reasons. I'm really enjoying the Maomao and Jinshi story even without a lot of romance. I'm open to more romantic development in the future, as long as it's slow and well-developed. Who cares if he's a eunuch or not. He's hot and sweet, and I already love them both ๐โค๏ธ |

| Looks like Shijin is even more attracted to ็ซ็ซ. Once Maลmaล removes her freckles, she is comparable to a princess. And as expected, she is overpowered with all the knowldedge of medicine, science, and politics that she possesses. |

| @MaahHeim The idea that he might be the Emperor crossed my mind. Though as of this episode, I kind of doubt that as in the previous episode, a bloke is shown as the Emperor and he has the vibe of an authority. So it's likely that he is the Crown Prince. Him being the true emperor is a remote possibility and the one shown as emperor is actually a puppet but him being the true emperor means the true emperor's face must not be known. Still, what I have deduced on my own is the possibility that Jinshi might not actually be a eunuch. Why would he event flirt with Maลmaล if that's the case? |
