gawed said: I could easily watch this spin-off instead of konosuba main story. you can't get enough of Megumin and Yunyun
If you really liked this Megumin & Yunyun spin-off I've got good news for you!
This was just half the content, there's more to come. But it takes place during season 4 so it's going to be some time until it gets animated.
Yeah, this show just didn't really do it for me, Kazuma plays the straight man far better than Yunyun. It just felt a little too mundane and unnecessary and the cameos from other well known characters were pathetic and/or non existent.
I like Megumin though and her little Sister was great as well, so it wasn't all underwhelming. 6/10.
An overall satisfying ending to a solid spin-off. Seeing Megumin's beginnings, more of the Crimson Demon village, and expanding on the friendship between Megumin and YunYun was nice to see. However, I don't think this was nearly as solid as the original series. I think it lacks the camaraderie and synergy of the original cast. Likely why this didn't get as near as big of laughs from me.
But I really love how they actually had it flow directly into the first season. I decided to watch the first 3-4 episodes last week, so I had their first meeting fresh in my mind. They implemented it perfectly.
Overall, I had fun, and I love Megumin, YunYun, and the world of Konosuba as a whole. But this was almost more of an appetizer before season 3 next year. Still a recommended watch for any Konosuba fan!
Megumin is a charming character but that wasnt enough to carry a whole series on her shoulders, this wasnt partcularly funny an it was kinda boring for the most part
I knew where the last scene was going and I couldn't help but smile. It was so good to see Kazuma and Aqua's faces again!
Yunyun's heartfelt words to a supposedly sleeping Megumin were so sweet. But poor girl, not only does she end up paralyzed by her own spell (thanks to Wiz lol) but Megumin reveals in front of everyone that she was in fact not asleep and repeats her words.
Yunyun best girl! She is just so lovable and one can't help but feel bad for her.
The fact that defeating the demon was a team effort without their knowledge was great.
Oh well, although I have to say that this spin-off obviously lacked the other characters it was still great and fun to watch. Looking forward to that third season next year! But for now, I kind of want to rewatch the main series xD.
This is pretty much the fate of most spin-offs where 1 member of the cast gets his/her own story, but with that the magic that the rest of the cast had as a group is lost in the iteration.
Nontheless, honor where it's due. Having plenty of Yunyun was the saving grace of the show along with the expansion of the lore with Arnes and the mysterious redheaded girl.
Hope Konosuba season 3 is able to bring back the former glory of the old goofball quartet.
I can't believe Yunyun's anime is over 😭 she will forever be the best Konosuba character ❤️❤️❤️
This was great, in all honesty I never really liked Megumin, and I think that after watching this I dislike her even more lol, but this gave us so much Yunyun lore, and introduced Cecily too, also Konosuba is Konosuba, so whatever, 10/10 oh boi season 3 is comming!!!
Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.
MegamiRem said: That must have been so embarrassing for Yunyun lol but she's so cute. Megumin took care off the demon, as usual the explosion magic looked so pretty. With Yunyun declaring to defeat her someday this prequel comes to an end. Ending right when Megumin met Aqua and Kazuma.
Pretty nice prequel story for Megumin. Liked many of the characters featured in this story. Glad to have more Yunyun and hope we get to see Arnes and Cecily in the main storyline someday.
Unfortunately, this is the last we see of Arnes. Though Cecily comes back in later novels
Honestly a really well done side story for Megumin, but also a nice reintroduction back to the series. The comedy still seems to hit well, there were definitely some really rememberable scenes from this season that had me cackling with laughter.
Story wise, it was quite simple. It was practically a side story that showed Megumin's life starting at the Crimson Village academy to the start of the Main story S1 but it expands a decent more bit about her character, personality and especially her goals. But they definitely did a good job spicing it up, it felt like they added so much depth to Chomusuke that has so much of its own potential as its own story arc that heavily links to Megumin and Yunyun. Besides from that, this season was also a good way to show of much of Yunyun's story and time with Megumin which i felt was well needed as it showed a lot about their friendship.
One thing i also liked about the story is the ramping appearances of s1 main story cast members and events. Some pointers can be how when Megumin was in Arcanletia she taught the Axis cult some cheap ways to get people to sign their fourms which we see being used in the main story. Another one can be just in general how the longer Megumin and Yunyun stayed in Axel for, the more and more frequent the appearance of Kazuma and Aqua got until the ending which aligns perfectly with Megumin's appearance in s1.
Character wise, it was way better then i thought. I don't really remember Konosuba much for it's character development or growth, but this season i thought they showed Megumin's backstory off pretty well imo. I feel like this season helped flesh out her character more by really nailing a lot of points about her personality, which can explain why she's so cemented to her main goal of why she's so set on wanting to learn Explosion magic.
I really didn't think we'd see a lot about Yunyun, i genuinely thought she'd be a side character and stop showing up around the last half of the season but i was wrong. And man am i glad, thinking about it now, Yunyun needed some backstory to develop her character, and i really liked how it went. I thought she made out to be a great friend for Megumin and i thought they dove into her personality and character towards Megumin really well, so much so that i think they make for a really good duo.
If there is one thing this season has taught me, its that Megumin and Yunyun are way closer then i remember. It's been while since i watched the main series, but i don't remember Megumin and Yunyun being this close to one another at all. Seeing how they became friends and how their dynamic evolved for them to be so close was way more heart warming then i thought it would be.
The side characters like Arnes, Cecily, Host, Zesta and some of the crimson demon girls were ok. Cus of Konosuba's pretty good delivery of comedy where it matters most, some characters i enjoyed more then i thought. Arnes, Cecily, Zesta are what come to mind, if not for their comedic aspects i don't think i'd remember them or like them, as much. But as characters, i guess the side characters had short but sweet stories to tell, each of them had unique personalities themselves that also helped them stand out from the crowd. But i'm still sad Arnes had to be gutted, i genuinely thought she could've been a good plot devices for a future arc since they foreshadow so much about Chomusuke, and as much as i laughed at her gimmicks of being chased out by men, then the town and being this all power demon that gets clowned on, it's sad she had to go, in atleast a blaze of glory.
Visuals were good. Again, i never really remembered Konosuba for it's visuals but i did definitely at least hope they'd dump some buck into Megumin's explosion vfx, cus in the main serious it was always pretty rememberable. And by God did they deliver with them. Honestly to the first to the last explosion megumin casted this season, they looked good to fucking amazing. The one's that really mattered you can see they put a lot of work into, so many colours and shapes on the cast up alone, the explosion itself would always look meaty and impactful.
Sfx were decent, i guess again, the most notable Sfx would definitely be casting Megumin's explosion. The casting sound is crazy, really heightens the visuals with the surround sounding and cluster of other sounds piled on.
Voice acting was great, i thought Takahashi Rie and Toyosaki Aki were a great duo absolutly killed it. They made each exchange between Megumin and Yunyun, whether it be crack comedy or something serious, enjoyable.
Op was good and visually pleasing, but man the Ed. Ed just hits right, chill vibes and slow beat especially with the vocals sung by Takahashi Rie and Toyosaki Aki. Add that really simple animation and i think it's gotta be one of my favourite Ed's this season.
All in all, it was great really enjoyed the season and reminded me a lot to why i enjoyed the main story so much. But this season had its own merits indefinitely, the story felt more rememberable with how interesting they showed Megumin and Yunyun's personalities and characters, not just to one another but to the world as well.

Ahh, was wondering how they were going to tie things together without Megumin's story evaporating in the main story of Konosuba
NGL this series was quite underwhelming if it wasn't for the Axel arc & finale, Although I can say one thing for sure that Yunyun is the best girl of this show for me! She kept me glued with it or otherwise I couldn't have finished it
Pretty nice way to end it, I like how they recreated the introduction Megumin had. Even with my bad memory, It felt super familiar lol. I kinda feel like watching konosuba again, it's been way too long xD.
Yunyun can be cute when she's ashamed after saying something like that and didn't expect Megumin to be awake ahaha. Nice end with FINALLY Aqua and Kazuma's faces. Didn't like much the spin-off at the beginning but ended up being pretty good especially during the 2nd half, nothing too extraordinary but perfect to wait before the S3
Although not on the same level as the main series, it still has the same solid directing and humor. Megumin and Yunyun of course being the lovable gremlins they are still have a great chemistry with one another. Decent side characters too.
Ending this Megumin spin off with her joining the gang is cinema, but overall this season was just good. Things definitely became more enjoyable when Megumin left the Crimson Village, not that the parts in the Crimson Village were bad, just a little slow and tame for Konosuba standards.
It's always nice to have more Megumin and we got more Yunyun screentime too, but this spin off is over and it's time for the main course once again, after more than 6 years since the last season, we're finally back, well, next year, can't wait.
Still, this was a nice little prequel for Megumin. 7/10
It was nice to see Megumin consider Yunyun as her friend, although she used it as a means to mock Yunyun is her time of need multiple times while dealing with the demon, Host. Talk about savage! XD
But still, the interactions between both Megumin and Yunyun was sweet and wholesome. After seeing off Cecily and Yunyun, it was only a matter of time before we get to see this spin-off's version of Megumin finally meeting Kazuma and Aqua for the very first time, where we got to see their faces properly as well.
Overall, the Megumin-focused prequel was a good blast, no pun intended. While the main series does the comedy aspect better, this prequel still does a solid job in the comedic moments that made me smile or burst out laughing. Production values are still very good, with the Megumin explosions looking visually stunning.
8/10 will be my final score and I highly look forward to the 3rd season of the main series next year. ^_^
Nice prequel to the og! Hopefully Megumin learns a few magic spells and/or accidentally uses them, there’s no way she actually goes on to rely on only explosion spells lol
Lets give some props to Megumin, she is the fastest gal to ever get dressed. She makes the flash look like a child.
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
I actually wish I hadn't watched this spin-off at all since it changed my opinion of Megumin from liking her to flat-out hating her. Here's hoping season 3 can scrub this from my mind. I did at least still enjoy the background banter between Aqua and Kazuma. 4/10.
As with every single spin-off centred around a comedic side character, this one was way worse than the main show because Megumin (the comedic side character in question) simply cannot carry a series on her own. Characters like her always work best bouncing off of other characters in small doses, not as the main focus. The dynamic between Megumin and Yunyun tries to recapture some of that Kazuma-Megumin energy, but just can't come close to matching it. The animation, OST and general direction just did not have the energy to match Konosuba and so often the comedic timing was just completely off.
All that said, this spin-off is not outright bad like a lot of its compatriots (e.g. The Cleveland Show, Joey), just kind of meh: it's pretty funny at times, particularly when they were at the Crimson Demon school, and Cecily is an inspired addition to the cast and world of Konosuba. The only part of this I'd say was genuinely bad was the Arcanretia detour, but at least we got Cecily out of that I suppose.
6/10. In hindsight I could and should have stuck to my original decision of skipping this because it was more or less exactly as mediocre as I expected it to be.
6/10.
Knew Megumin won't be able to carry alone. I was right.
I would have given even lesser if not for kazuma and aqua in last 2-3 episodes.
I am not a Megumin fan.
I like Kazuma and his dynamics with the 3 girls. Without him, none of the characters can carry the anime. Maybe except Wiz and Vanir.
Yeah, that was a great ending all around - had me smiling. As for the series...well, give me ep 01 and 12 and maybe one of the Axis eps and I'm good. I came for the Megumin, but Yunyun did her best as a support character. In the final battle, she showed us some great teamwork. Fun times to tide us over until S3.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE ACTUALLY DID THE EXACTLY SAME THING WHEN THEY SHOWED MEGUMIN FIRST APPERENACE THERE'S NO WAY THEY CAN F UP SEASON 3
Well guys it’s over and I enjoyed this ride I loved Megumin and Yunyun’s dynamic in this show it really showed us how close these 2 really are and how far back they go🥹
The part where Yunyun was embarrassed had me laughing so hard man I can never get enough of Megumin teasing Yunyun😭
I’m seeing ppl hoping for a season 2 but i don’t see how they could even make a season 2 considering this season ended on the part where she meets Kazuma and Aqua Megumin’s story is pretty much done🤷🏽♂️
