I'm gonna be honest here, I very rarely get emotional watching an anime or any show for that matter (a reason for that maybe cause I'm a dark/psychological genre fan so deaths and heartbreaks there are pretty common). Ive been following Oshi no ko since it's release and i didn't cry when I read that scene. But watching it in animation legit made me cry... Ep1 atleast imo was better in anime than the manga

Well... Can't vote since I didn't see that coming and I didn't cry. Ai is an interesting character. Beautiful, cute, energetic, a good mother, positive... But just in one episode... I didn't attach to her fully... Maybe if she dead in the last episode will shed a little tear.

Well, I felt sad. I went into this blind and was NOT expecting her to be murdered. I thought it would be a slice of life comedy because I am only familiar with Kaguya-sama. I did not expect it to go that dark. For me, the prologue was produced well enough in terms of animation and story, and its own "reincarnation" premise that it did not seem too "happy", compared to School-Live or Goblin Slayer, which were pretty obviously setting up the audience with how "generic" everything was.

I don't think I cried in the last few years from media. Last I think was maybe Disney's Coco, but it just hit that spot of bittersweet to me. I don't cry at completely tragic events, but bittersweet ones, I suppose.

Someone was really thoughtful when they decided to spoil Ai's death scene in the YouTube video thumbnail on the same day the episode was released.

So, this spoiled the event for me, and I couldn't cry, but it definitely had an impact on me. Additionally, Ai's monologue during the episode was sorrowful, as she had to maintain the happiness of those around her by lying, among other things. Therefore, saying "I love you" genuinely to her children before passing away was poetic.

Although I don't have high expectations for this Anime to surpass the exceptional standard they set in the first episode, I'll continue to watch it.

I was crying and I'd read the manga, so I knew exactly what was coming. Even reread the exact scene only a few days prior.

No Offense and I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH ITS HIGH RATINGS

But you guys really cried? It was honestly a good episode no doubt but I guess the only reason why it hit 9.35 ratings was surely because You guys witnessed AI's death and chick hearts felt it heavy......also again NO OFFENSE in that as well
Also the timeskip AQUA engulfed with an absolute REVENGE......loved that

I saw her death coming as the ATMOSPHERE in the ep changed and ofc the STAKER was the MAJOR

also no πŸ’’DEATH SPOILERπŸ’’from other animes.....there was one of πŸ’’DEMON SLAYERπŸ’’ in other post but since everyone watched it so it wasn't a spoiler so

I’ve seen Made in Abyss…Crying on this lol

It was pretty shocking and sad for me but not enough for me to cry. Maybe if she was around a little longer I could get to know her better and even more interested then maybe

Yes. This is the only first episode ever to make me tear up lol.

I think even if I saw it coming, I still would've shed a tear given how perfectly done the scene was. Her final monologue, the context, the directing and animation, the music, the voice acting etc. Everything came together incredibly well in that scene to create a truly special and emotional moment.

I still cried after having already seeing the manga. I had gotten extremely attached to Ai and when first starting the series I fully expected it to be slice of life so the death hit like a truck. It was also an extremely well done scene overall.

Oh yeah. Absolutely. Cried like a BITCH. I did not see her death coming AT ALL, especially since there was such heavy emphasis on the idea of experiencing a kid’s life who was the son of an idol. I thought that because that’s the premise of the show (or rather, what you think it is), there would be far more scenes of the mother and the twins interacting. The show does a great job at setting up and executing her death and I can’t wait to see what else it has in store. Aka Akasaka man…

i was spoiled about her death and still cried like a little bitch. even i was surprised to see i cried that much. it was comparable to how much i cried during mugen train and rezero rem cave betelguese scene and that was a lot.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

No, it was more shockingly tragic than sad crying to me. I was a little sad but not enough to cry, even watching it as an anime didn't change much. I did feel the frustration post death out of every character that was involved with Ai.

I already knew ai was going to die from spoilers but still if it was that good I would have cried. I think the case is similar with Bunny Girl Senpai, the show got too mainstream and people who don't usually watch drama watched the show and since they're unfamiliar with drama it made them cry. There are waaaay better dramas if you want to cry honestly.

it was an extremely predictable death off a character we only had 1 and half hour to sympathize with. It is practically a regular news story that an obsessed fan will come after an idol. The sad part was Hoshino's response tho

I saw her death coming, infact I was actually spoiled beforehand. That didn't stop the scene from having the emotional impact, actually it boosted it, because I wasn't expecting it to go that hard. So yes, I cried real manly tears, not a massive amount, but some.

I did not cry.. yeah it was sad but she didn't seem genuine at all in my eyes. She waited until she was on her deathbed to say she loves her kids, Man that's toxic as fuck! She didn't even want to be a mother, she saw her kids as accessories..Like putting your kids on someone else to still be an idol lol like hell no if you a mother you give 100% of yourself to your kids. No it's ands or buts!

It was pretty devastating to be honest. Deff had a few tears running. I will say that the hour and 20 minute format would have been a lot better if I saw it in theaters or something.

I didn't realize it was an hour+ at first so I was in 35 minutes and was like damn this feels long for an anime episode. I actually ended up watching it in short bursts which I kinda regret doing, but I wasn't prepared to sit down for a full movie.

It was enjoyable though so far.

Nope. I didn't find Ai to be particularly likable and the scene was way too melodramatic anyway. Tragic death scenes are rarely actually cry-worthy especially when the dying person goes on a monologue.
Same, didn't feel bad for her, but the scene was amazing and made me excited to see what Aqua will do regarding the father.
