So far I find this mild, not bad, not too good, but good enough to have it at a side while doing something else and occasionally look it to see Shikimori's expressions, which so far is the only reason to watch it.

episode was wholesome as always. That chainsaw dude and the clown dude are definitely the rip off of Texas Chainsaw and It.

This is seriously not a complaint
I just felt this weird. Why does Izumi's parents talk like npc bots?
You say that like everyone doesn't come across like NPC's in the anime, it all feels unnatural to me.
I think that almost everyone here speaks like a robot, specially our main protagonist couple (overly formal and mechanic). That said, unfortunately this isn't something limited to this anime, it's quite common.

If you brought your girlfriend home yet you slept through the entire time she was there and left her to your parents to attend to, you're a fucking loser.

My god, even as a source reader, I can't help but x2 through the second half episode. This is so boring.

It'd be so easy for this to be sweet and charming, but it's boring. There's so little personality past the core gag, and the gag got old episode one. Don't think I need to see more. A+ outro, though.

Nope, this is impossible to watch for me. It's not even bad, it just...

Maybe I don't get it. It's a rollercoaster of feelings that I don't like, from episode to episode. It's not cute, it's pandering. It's not strong, it's toxic. It is going against my core beliefs of what a relationship and being a sucessful member of society is while the show is trying to be completely straight faced about it and I just can't take it. It's pressing wrong buttons way to hard.

It's asking of me to accept he is just, what now? Geneticaly unlucky? Unlucky because he cares about other people? what? That is some gamma male mentality if I ever seen one. It's pandering, denying MC the accountability and all chance of growth, redemption or self realisation. His life is not in his hands. Poor little guy, it doesn't matter if you are so "unlucky" that you can't be a contributing member of society (imagine him at work, there would probably be casualties), but don't worry, you don't have to do anything. In fact, you CAN NOT do anything. Its just not your fault you are constantly getting almost killed. Here, have a perfect girlfirend. BECAUSE YOU ARE A NICE GUY!

You will get yelled at, occasionally, albeit lovingly, you will get escorted to the medics for the slightest mishap and you will be asked, sternly, NOT to walk home alone, or hang around your friends.

Just let her handle everything. Sleep through her visit at your house(the dishes, very conveniently), let her handle those weird first partner-parent moments by herself. No money? Lost your wallet(you sure did, Yugioh cards aint cheap tho eh)? Shikimori-san to the rescue... Just... come on...

The thing is, while I am aware this is fictional exaggeration, these kind of relationships do exist. Once you get older, you'll notice them to. Shadows, husks of men, dragging their feet behind their "perfect" wifes. Being immaculated, not allowed to take any decision, to do anything, to say aynthing at all. It starts by being told it's not your faul, you just can't do anything right. Then the resentment come. Or, people just willingly and maliciously accept the role and leech off the people around them(The "You know I can't work, my back hurts, feed me tho" types). I honestly don't know what is worse.

Reality is harsh and this show sends all the wrong messages. I'm not saying it should be hyper realistic, but this is some kindergarden rate fantasy and I just can't condone it.

Another great episode of Shikimori, love to see them finally going on a date, and to see a horror movie lol, that’s my kind of movie, and loved the “IT” reference, as well as the mix of Texas Chainsaw and Friday the 13th. And wow I loved Shikimori bonding with Izumi’s parents, she’s fitting right in, she even seduced Izumi’s mom lol. I also like that the dad is a gamer and bonded with Shikimori over a Wii Sports looking game, the best way to bond is gaming after all lol.

I’m also glad to see they went back and adapted some earlier chapters from what I read here, I knew they were gonna speed things along more but I definitely don’t wanna miss out on whatever goodness they could have skipped over.

Bruh the movie they watched was literally “It.”

Hot take: I felt like the animation during Pennywise's laugh was the best in the entire episode.

With the amount of misfortune Izumi has, I’m surprised he didn’t die from a miscarriage. I also wonder how he was able to survive during the time he hadn't met Shikimori.

This may be a little nitpicking, but I don’t like how weird it feels when something comes flying toward Izumi.
Episode 1: Shikimori sees Truck-kun during his daily isekai protag deliveries, and Izumi also looks at Truck-kun a second afterward THEN they both STARE AT IT. We see the truck approaching him for a good three seconds until she has to pull him away from the road. It felt like so much time had passed that he should have been able to react. It also didn’t even look like the truck was moving that fast.
Episode 2: We see the ball flying toward Izumi, so the other players must have also been looking at the ball. His girlfriend and the other girl sees the ball flying towards him and try to warm him, which takes at least 15 seconds before Izumi realizes the ball is coming towards him and then STARES at it for a good five second. It means that during ALL that time, the ball flew toward Izumi. That must either have been a very slow ball, or the ball must have liked Shikimori SO MUCH that it was like “I’ll wait for you to finish, my Queen.” I think it would make more sense for him not to notice the ball at all - for the ball to hit him or the side of the head or the top when he was trying to figure out what they were saying.
Episode 3 - The tong falls on the fork, which makes the fork spin. We see the fork pointing toward his mother, then at the next cut, we see it flying toward Izumi, and he STARES AT IT. I would also like to ask Fork-kun where he got the kinetic energy to spin around in the air, THEN fly toward Izumi at a speed that he couldn’t react to. Additionally, he MUST have noticed when the tong fell (it made a noise, and he was looking in the direction of his mother ), so he must have seen the fork spinning in the air, then flying towards him. So during all that time, he did NOTHING. From the three episodes so far, he seems really incompetent. Like HTF did he survive until started dating Shikimori. If I was in his shoes, I would have probably died as a kid when a frying pan with hot oil does a 180 and burns my face off.
Maybe it’s the studio's fault, I don’t know. Maybe it made more sense in the manga, I don’t know.

“He came home injured every day.” Hmmmmmm. If my kid gets hurt that much every time he walks to school, as a parent, I feel like I would have to drive him to school every day no matter how hard it is or at least accompany him INTO the classroom before leaving him.
For anyone wondering, yes, I do have a lot of time on my hand.
P.S: I think the Izumi’s mother bloodline must have been cursed, and Shikimori must have a fetish for misfortuned dudes.

Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... I enjoyed this episode of shikimori. I had a genuine laugh when izumi overpacked his bag. And when they all went to the house to eat and the heartfelt talk with izumis mother was also pretty nice. This anime in particular deserves less hate than it should.

Shikomori really taking time to think about her date look reminded me of Tanaka-kun's Shiraishi haha. A big brother appeared!

With all the misfortune Izumi had in this episode I still thought that the misfortune was less than the last 2 episodes (the bar is so low TT). As this is a simple SOL there may be no explanation at all about his bad luck but I can't help but think how sad it is being unlucky is just one of your character traits

I was surprised that they actually showed us a part of the horror movie?? I thought that we would only get to see the characters' reactions right away after the movie starts. Izumi is trying his best to get to know Shikomori more, and Shikomori gets to bond with the Izumi's parents (the parents' side comments made me laugh)

Thoughts: How long have Izumi/Shikomori known each other? Why is it that Shikomori said that it's been long since she ate homemade food?? I wonder when we will be able to understand the angsty parts of the OP

Another wholesome episode watching Shikimori and Izumi watch a movie together, one up to Inuzuka for the nice set up get a wing man like him honestly.
Izumi with his experience of years of bad luck trys to failsafe ever possible outcome but no one can out do fate. Not surprised that Shikimori was the type that liked horror, as someone who cannot stand horror i'll give Izumi a round of applause for that one.

Was nice to see Shikimori within the Izumi household, both his parents seem to love Shikimori and Shikimori herself already calls them mother and father. Izumi mom's comments on where he got his bad luck from was funny. Not a parent, but i'm sure as one having ur child being unlucky as Izumi is something to keep u up at nights.

Honestly, I don't recall Shikimori's mom or brother appearing this early? But whateves they can go rush with the source material all they want and going to say both the anime and manga are entirely separable mediums, the anime is almost in a different context at this point and now that people are going to drop this series since they have made it to the 3 episode rule, I myself am going to appreciate Shikimori's braid ponytail!!!

What make you think ppl are going to drop this. This anime is amazing. Top 5 this season

So, after 3 eps, I have to say...I find Shikimori kinda off-putting. When they do the expression shots that are supposed to show her being cool or whatever, I really get way more of a yandere vibe from her than anything, and I just don't go for that at all. I super wasn't surprised when she picked the horror movie, and I really expected her to end up laughing while people were being mutilated on-screen, or something. I'm assuming from the OP that there's backstory that explains why she comes off so broken, but I'm certainly not vibing on her so far, regardless of the scenes where they play up her cute side.

most people who hate this anime only because the main male character is feminine. even though for me it is natural and clear that the main genre of this anime is romance and comedy, I understand that if the main characters are made like that.

Even better than action anime where the main character is a god candidate but naive

I don't really know either what people were expecting from this show when they first heard about it, because this is exactly what I expected and wanted, just wholesome fluff.

Well anyway, great episode! Shikimori interacting with Yuu's parents was great. Teared up a little too when Motoko was talking about Yuu's childhood. Motoko wanting Shikimori to be her girlfriend and Akisada's reactions were hilarious though lmao. Really looking forward to the next episode.

Well the first part revolving around the horror film was a little bland and overdone for my liking, however the second half at Izumi's house ended up being super wholesome and interesting. Seeing glimpses deeper into their characters and the acceptance of Shikimori in the family was so nice to see. The Wii Sports battle was pretty funny too.

How can he be the boyfriend when she already is? But seriously, it would probably be cute if it was the girl falling asleep at her house, and the guy charms her parents in the meantime. It's supposed to be cute when he does it too, I would have dropped the manga around this point if I couldn't get over the premise.

The anime gives us a lot of reasons to dislike Izumi, and his bad luck, despite how much worse it is than the manga, is just one of those things, but I digress. Still, the whole "beta" thing is kind of irrelevant, it's a recurring theme to have these interactions/scenarios where Shikimori comes across as the stereotypically masculine one, and Izumi comes across as the stereotypically feminine one, that's a core aspect of the series. Now, that's just a gimmick more or less, their whole personalities don't revolve around it, but people that can't get over it should just drop it.

This was pretty wholesome, I would say the best episode till now.

I'm starting to like the OP now, it's good.

I like how Shikimori already calls Yuu's parents, Okasama and Otosama. The family dinner was really wholesome, liked the part where Yuu's mom and Shikimori had a nice chat. Also, the dad is hilarious, he had two good lines (the flirting one and affair one) and both of them were great, really had me laughing. Though NGL Shikimori's speech kinda became cringey? idk the right word but yeah when her speech became serious some of it was hard to watch, rest was pretty wholesome.

5/5 episode. I hope this same quality of content is maintained. Gonna rate this 7/10 for now, if it improves then I won't mind rating it up to a 9, 10/10 is impossible with a MC like that lmao.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

The amount of enjoyment, happiness, and Serotonin I get from Shikimori the past 3 weeks has really been something special. This didn't change with episode 3. In fact who ever directed this episode really did a fantastic job. The scene with Shikimori and Mrs. Izumi was honestly not only good in terms of dialogue, but the scene as a whole was damn near perfect. The music like started off all sad and sullen but gradually built up into something more inspiring and then into something happy. Honestly I was very impressed with this episode. Also Izumi's parents are fantastic.

So far, this is the best episode of the series, although the hate for Izumi is still over the top as usual. =(

Anyways, his date with Shikimori to the movies was cute. I do like the IT knock-off movie that they watched (as well as the Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre in Izumi's visions earlier), which derailed Izumi's attempt to be strong for Shikimori, in which she helped him instead during the scary parts of the movie.

I can't blame other users here from thinking that Izumi's father resembles more like a grandfather. Besides, not every man in their 40s or 50s will be gushing with a full thick head of natural-coloured hair and with a tone body, although this is anime, after all, so it's still understandable. Still, I did enjoy his battle against Shikimori in Wii Sports Boxing, which gave me a nice feeling of nostalgia of that game. =)

I enjoyed the house scene where Shikimori interacted with Izumi's parents while he slept. If the bad luck keeps being mellow like in this episode, I think it can get better.
