I just don't know how this shit gets better and better everytime I watch it really..........

Since the beginning of my journey as an AOT fan, I just can't remember when did it let me down! This is just peak fiction and pure work of art.

This episode was quite mood refreshing but the last 3 minutes changed the whole scenarios and that epic scene where Eren's Founding Titan was animated damn.......

I don't care what other haters say, I just love how it gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it, this is my most favourite anime ever for a reason, hehe coming from a fanboy obviously

Season 4 Part 2 is a perfect 10/10 for me

Waiting for Season 4 Part 3 which people said it to be the downfall of this series, finger crossed for a good ending.......

What a legendary episode and an epic conclusion to Part 2. The decision the combine these 2 chapters really paid off. All the staff did their best, they nailed every expression and every scene, the bittersweet beginning and the terrifying end.

I truly believe that this is the best AoT season deserving a 10/10 score!

Now we wait for 2023 and hope that the staff once again goes all out for the last stretch of the story. If we get the same quality as in this season, I'll be happy.

I thought this episode was a time skip seeing them all together in suits and Gabi grown up but damn that's just Sasha I mostly forgot they look so identical

Parts of the episode was heartwarming and the ending was heartwarming just multiply that to 100 and you get your entire body burned like ashes so that's it.

This was really the downtime for action from the entire series of AOT but the most anticipating one since the Founder Titan was here in this moment and we'll probably have to wait and see a year again or at best two more seasons for this anime to end.

Interesting. I kinda thought the flashback was going to be Eren's dream or something but I'm glad it wasn't.

The last couple of minutes were exciting, but the fact that they seem to just keep putting out more parts is annoying me a little. Like don't call it the final season if it isn't the end. I'm curious as to the length of the next part though, seeing as there can't be that much left in the story.

But I didn’t really understand the Eren-Historia conversation, especially when he told her “you Saved me”

It's a throwback to s3p1 where Historia saved Eren, literally and metophorically, back then Eren lost his will to live because of burden of ancestral sins(father's in this case), so he was asking her to eat him and save humanity. She refused and told him she's the worst girl in the world, and that humanity should get destroyed instead by the titans.

This basically foreshadows the rumbling.

Thought the scenes of somber Eren outside the wall were adapted well. Feel more strongly about those scenes compared to the manga. Also really liked the scene with the battle ships. I had forgotten about the titans swimming lol.

First half was pretty boring and not really fitting for a last episode imo. Second half was much better, though seems like the interesting parts will be reserved for the final final season.

Overall better than part 1, but still below Shingeki no Kyojin standards from the first three seasons. My biggest problem was Eren only appearing in half of the season despite being the main character and focus of the whole story. It had some cool episode and twists, but also some really really boring parts as well. Art- and animation-wise there was nothing to complain about imo. 8/10

Damn I have to say this episode was amazing

The flashback not only explains how certain things happened, but also shows the main trio's last moments of happiness.

and of course....The final scene, amazing!

definitely my favorite episode of the entire fourth season.

Also, this whole episode seemed dragged lol. I think they noticed they wouldn't be able to wrap it up in a few episodes

Overall an okay season, the writing on how Mikasa and others with Maryleans that want to join to stop the bloodshed without in depth explanation aside from "Genocide". Armin and Mikasa are still bland side character regardless.

Most of the time it felt like fillers to me. anyway 5/10

The rumbling was nice though

Good finale, they took the right stuff from the manga. This story is always better with the original gang and without the Marley add on characters.Technically well executed adaptation overall, but it cannot mask Isayama's weir decision making towards the end.

That was a banger finale
I like the rearrangement now, manga order is still superior but I liked what they did in the anime as well.
This episode showed again if we forgot what kind of world it was outside, that eren was going to destroy
Showing everyone outside the wall is the same as them and then Eren saying I'll kill every last one of those "animals" in the end was a great contrast

Overall this was the most ambitious season since S1,and they didn't cut much content either.
ig this is my fav season ....now let's see if the next one can surpass this

2023 !!it is!!

‘everything… is still ahead’

this episode is the first real look into eren’s psyche since the timeskip and it’s centred on two main concepts: his determination and his self loathing. his venture into the outside world changes his perspective but it doesn’t stop him from following through.

for this it’s important to note that his coldness in his conversations with floch and historia is BEFORE he crosses the ocean. he can still view them all as enemies who he is fighting but he’s forced to accept the reality that they’re ‘all the same’ once he sees them for himself

hence during the rumbling as he reaches marley, his words overlap with the words he spoke in season 1 regarding the titans. his psyche reverts to that of a child’s (black/white) in order to carry out the decision made by an adult who understands the grey.

this understanding leads to extreme self loathing which we see through the refugees. the boy we’ve already seen in eren’s memory shard, and is important because he is a reflection of eren himself. an innocent who had everything taken away, his freedom taken away.

eren becomes the person who takes that freedom. he goes from victim to perpetrator, emphasised by the parallel to s1 with the shot of the shadow. eren becomes the thing he despised above all and that is why he is crying when mikasa finds him. he saw himself in that boy.

all of his words to mikasa strengthen his conversation to reiner in the basement.

‘i’m the same as you’

reiner and eren both made choices that stem from their nature which, regardless of original intent, will harm innocents. they both feel the full weight of that choice.

it aligns with a big message in aot. regardless of race, nationality, or creed we are all the same. there are always victims, there are always perpetrators but one-sided perspectives born from environment can blind you to that fact. ie people like floch or the marleyan empire.

it’s why the alliance are functionally set up to oppose eren. they seek mutual understanding where he would wipe that out. this is due to his determination mentioned before, he will always ‘keep moving forward’. even at the cost of himself/others he follows the memories he saw.

however the best way to see eren’s psyche is through mikasa. he thinks mikasa’s care HAS to be for a reason, he can’t comprehend the notion that she can just love him freely because he views himself as the very worst, hence he asks her the question. Why you care so much for me Mikasa" Because I saved you when we were kids or ... because I'm family? What am I to you Mikasa"

it’s the same reason he asks zeke about a possible ‘ackerbond’ later which he quickly dismisses. zeke can easily understand that mikasa just loves eren, because he also sees him in a positive light, unlike how eren views himself.

it’s also telling that at his lowest point
he turns to the person he’s always viewed as ‘stronger’ than himself. mikasa’s response stems from the disconnect between her emotions and her rationalisation at this point in time. eren with the scarf provided warmth, and the only thing she can equate that to is ‘family’.

‘the world is cruel but also beautiful’. it’s the beauty that allows her to carry on and in this episode we see her fully come to terms with eren representing both sides of that equation. she has always fought to protect that childhood ‘beauty’ but it now seems impossible.

mikasa used to look at the past, while eren looked at the future. this is where his memories play an important role. even in this episode we see how vital they are. his memories from grisha leave him unable to find joy in things for himself, like the ice cream.

this takes away from a key part of who eren is, a boy attempting to become free by being able to experience anything he wants without restraints. his memories rob him of that, and his future memories trap him even further because everything he sees happens with 100% accuracy.

this means aot’s world is deterministic ie the future is set in stone. so just like the attack titan (an extension of eren’s own nature) has been following a predetermined path set up by eren, he is now doing the same thing. eren is crafted to be trapped in every way

that’s why the juxtaposition of mikasa’s monologue with eren’s is so perfect (the japanese is the same for the anime). where eren only looks to the future (everything is still ahead), mikasa thinks of the possibility of changing that future (what if i chose another answer).

it calls back to their s3 convo & brings up the idea that mikasa can be more free than eren as she isn’t bound by the future.

this is also the case functionally. as an ackerman & asain, shes made up of the 2 lines that arent controlled by the founding titan. she is born ‘free’

mikasa and eren have been at the forefront of some of aots biggest developments, so its great that these concepts gain more layers and prominence as the series begins to wrap up.

it’s also important to understand that the concept of a future set in stone doesn’t take away from the AGENCY of our characters. this is because aot aligns with the philosophy of compatibilism (img below) which we see through eren. the future is only set in stone because it ultimately aligns with his own desires.

as he says in this episode: ‘everything happened by my will’.

yes the future is set in stone but it doesn’t mean eren/others are any less culpable for their actions. simply put in erens own words after he thinks of where it all began (hints at causal determinism):

‘it doesn’t matter’

this is eren’s choice and nothing takes away from that

Dam,they cut the set in stone line ...that's my only(minor) complaint ig

What a banger of an episode it was!! Loved the way they depicted eren's point of view, litterally and metaphorically. The emotions and memories, all of them led to the rumbling. Eren's hate for the mankind and his will to secure a safe life for his people, both were were complimented greatly in this episode. No better way to end part 2.

Man oh man the downgrade from previous season.
Aside from agonizing over how Mikasa looks like and the pale art and animation they did a good job on few episodes depicting and expressing the characters' feelings but man this is sad and unsatisfying "last season".

I sure hope that "Eren wouldn't be evil if he got some pussy" is meant to be taken as Mikasa's delusion, and not as fact.

You'd think that way now wouldn't you. Considering we were already given examples on how delusional she is about Eren

But i urge you to reconsider your position. Perhaps you read this series wrong, perhaps Mikasa was the main protagonist all along, and she is right about everything she ever said about him.

I stupidly thought the first part of the episode was a "what if" scenario, but it looks like this part happened after Season 3 part 2 and before Season 4. The party atmosphere that the group joined in was pretty fun, although it would explain the pivotal point for Eren, going by his questions to Mikasa in which she struggled to answer.

The last few minutes of the episode was pretty epic, as we see Eren making land and shows how devastatingly powerful the Rumbling is against even a combined effort of the worlds forces being swatted away like flies. I must give bonus points for using one of Sawano's songs for this scene, which felt really satisfying.

Overall, this "Final Season" isn't over yet, which does make the title look a little idiotic. Aside from that, Part 2 of the Final Season had plenty of moments that define how good this series can be. The production quality still isn't as good as it can be, but there's no denying that it's a good improvement over Part 1 with better consistency, both 2D and CGI moments.

I can't rate it the same as Season 3 Part 2, as that had more series defining scenes and better 2D animation, so I'll settle for another 9/10. I look forward to the conclusion next year. =)

This episode was beautiful! I recently rewatched all of Attack on Titan during the last 2 weeks and I have gotta say it made my whole experience with this season better and I loved the final episode.

My friend told me that this episode might end on a cliffhanger since he read the manga before but the ending just makes me even more hyped for part 3.

This whole part started out with a bang and it became one of the best starts to an AoT season ever imo. They improved on the animation, cgi, character designs, music and more.

The whole final episode was amazing and I loved it during the whole thing.

Sigh... the circlejerk around this show still isn't about to end anytime soon -_-

These past few episode where good, but I feel like they're afraid to put in more major events in these parts. Only 1 major thing happened this season, with the rest just being buildup for what comes next. Yeah yeah, we get some backstory, but it's not something we didn't already know. And 3 episodes for the harbor takeover was a bit overkill to me.

I did appreciate the more lighthearted we-have-fun scenes in this episode. When they were drinking with those refugees I couldn't do anything but smile; and hearing (a slightly bastardized version of) the original transformation theme at the end gave me goosebumps.

This is not the real final. They are going to release a "part 3" next year. How cringe is that lol, calling this the "final season" with 3 parts. Anyways, I would advice you to actually stop here because the manga ending is way worse than you could ever imagine. Not will it just make you disappointed, it will actually ruin the rewatch value that SNK has. Just a heads up since I don't want anyone to go through that same shit and be depressed like I got

Sure, the rumbling scene had (for the most part) great animation. But it just doesn't make you feel scared or anything like it did in the manga. Really weak compared to the source material. Also, wtf was that logic killing titans like flies underneath the water but on the surface they take no damage whatsoever? MAPPA really tries to be overdramatic by changing things up that never actually happened. Same with the ships lmao.

3/10 for this season. It had some great moments here and there but was ultimately beaten by the inconsistency in terms of writing and animation quality. Unfortunately, it's not going to get better.

A fantastic season and adaptation that really nailed this part of the manga. It’s a 10/10 for me easy. Let me say that I am relieved that it ended here because I don’t think I’m ready for the storm that will come online if the original ending is adapted 1:1, so I am glad we can all just appreciate the story up to this point where imo it’s been phenomenal.

Now, we have the last part of the story with the announcement of part 3, I have to speculate because ending of the manga is… less than ideal, but the anime could help remedy it.

If they do a 10 episode season, which seems to be what will happen, they’ll have a shit ton of run time to work with with only 9 chapters left. I see it going two ways:

1) The original ending, but expanded: This option wouldn’t necessarily be the worst thing. If they stretch out and explain some of the themes and motivations in the
In addition, having a bigger epilogue would also be nice and rather than just the flashes we see in the original. Also if we could figure out what the hell happened to
. I would be satisfied with it, even though it wouldn’t exactly be my ideal.

2. We get an anime original ending. One that actually gives a proper conclusion to Eren’s
The solution is simple:
That’s big thing most people I think are upset about. Also maybe
But this isn’t the biggest priority. That’s all you have to do really. Yes, you could go the route of
While that would be interesting, I just don’t think that’s the type of ending Isayama would want to leave us.

My second proposed ending at least keeps the built up ideals and goals the same until the end while preserving the rest of the ending. However I think option 1 is the most likely thing to happen and that wouldn’t be the end of the world. Anything would be better than a 1:1 recreation of the original ending.
I haven't seen you around here in ages man

But to speak on your last spoiler tag

Marely and the rest of the world already wanted to genocide Eldians even before rumbling, rumbling only reassure them that their decision was correct.
And after Eren is stopped there is noting standing in a way between them and their plan of wiping Eldia from the map so I have no idea how would this benefit the paradise.
Alliance has no plan of preventing Eldian genocide so they choosing to side with the people that hate them and want them dead over their own friends and families makes no sense whatsoever.

marley is already dead, the strongest nation, paradis has demonstrated its strength no one will attack paradis unless they want to commit suicide. alliance is the new tybur of this era. its easy to understand. survey corps rarely had any plan, they made it later it didnt stop erwin

lol what? you could easily see when the walls broke, that Armin said "if all Eren wants to destroy is Marley, then there was no need for all these titans" which obviously meant Eren wasn't planning to stop on Marley, and that's why they decided to try to stop it

Just relax lol.

I understand part of what you're saying, I'm not a manga reader either, but i guess we're from different generations. At least theyre taking the necessary time to focus on animation quality and source material faithfulness. If Attack on Titan was written 10 years earlier, it'd be inundated with literal useless filler, and probably it'd have been airing for 9 years straight by now lol.

Other than that I mean I can help answer any of your actual plot questions.

for sure yes, i really appreciate that this isnt overrun with filler episodes. the animation has also been amazing as well - if there's a really impressive scene with really great animation i sometimes rewatch it 2 or 3 times haha. i was actually thinking of that while ranting in my earlier post. i've read a bit about the problems with the anime industry (like underpaid and overworked staff) so i always feel bad & hypocritical for complaining, but this time i just really needed to get that off my chest

i kind of have 2 problems which have really just been building up: 1) i have unintentionally been seeing countless spoilers for years now. on top of death spoilers (sasha's death, for one, was spoiled for me less than 24h after the chapter came out) and just general plot point spoilers, i also saw a spoiler for the ending with 0 context. i just want to hurry up and get past the spoilers i've seen. this is all on me though for not being careful enough online; 2) these final season parts being labelled as "parts" is driving me bananas. there are other shows i watch where i wait months/years between seasons, but thats bc theyre labelled as seasons. this being labelled as the "final season" is frustrating to me because i keep thinking its gonna end, then it doesnt. but i get what they're doing now, so if there ends up being a final season: part 4 (hopefully not though), i would understand

thanks so much for offering to answer my questions! i'll be honest though, i need a detailed recap of everything after s1 (which is why i'm turning to the manga now). i do have one thing thats been bugging me if you could help me out: i don't understand anything about floch. like who was he? what exactly was he doing? for lack of a better term, was he a bad/evil guy?

I wrote a detailed review of Attack on Titan that really goes into some nuanced detail about what's going on.

I've also had lots of key plot points spoilered from the beginning including that Reiner and Bertholdt were the Colossal and Armoured titans.

Anddddddd I also saw some shocking spoilers for how AoT ends, but surprisingly its never affected my overall enjoyment or how immersed i am.

Re: Floch

He's the new recruit from the 104th Survey Corps that joins Levi's squad alongside Marlo (KIA) in S3 and S3 Pt 2. He's actually the coward from Levi's squad that's petrified of dying when Erwin is leading them to their deaths. He's the catalyst of Erwins infamous speech about their deaths not being in vein, and trusting their hopes dreams and goals to the soldiers that will come after them.

I think what makes Floch such an amazing character is that he really is a product of his experiences. He accepted fate and rode towards Beast Titan Zeke fully expecting to die, but he survived. That survival gave him a purpose in life he was seeking. To protect those around him. If you remember Floch was staunchly against reviving Armin over Erwin, believing that only Erwin could lead Humanity to victory.

I tried to message you because I didn't want to exactly plug my review in a discussion thread but you have DMs locked D:

But I don't think Floch is either evil or good, i write a lot about how the lines are really blurred in Attack on Titan, with everyone really fighting to protect something- whether its the world, their nation, or just their family.

The reason i personally respect and rate Floch so highly is because he's willing to do anything to protect what he loves the most.

That was epic. I love how it went back to a more normal Eren and him just before his turn. It was so weird seeing Eren smile while he was drunk. I feel like I haven't seen him smile in years. (Genuinely can't remember the last time he smiled. Which makes sense since the entire series is a survival game)

It was really nice to see one of the original OST tracks be played right towards the end there.

As always I'm on Eren's side. Couldn't care less about anyone else, Eren all the way.

Still drooling over the episode. Perfectly captures everything AOT is about in 24 minutes. Perhaps the most important episode (yet) for the themes and the message this show is trying to portray.
