I was tearing up when they showed those who have encountered & received Violet’s help......and bawled when they showed Leon. What a beautiful anime.

I’ve been captivated by Gilbert & Violet’s story since the very first episode. The scene at the festival/market where they chance upon the emerald brooch is my favourite, it’s so beautiful. And their battle scenes are so hauntingly sorrowful. Gilbert was such a great man. I really want to see more of Gilbert & Hodgins. They are both so fineeeeeeee. So is Benedict.

but i’ll probably remember over and over again

I don't know why they made it seem like this was the last episode, but it was really cool either way.

Mom and so sad is this episode, yet we have a happy ending. That guy after he got a chance to survive he still attacks. 😞🤬 However, weak souls like Violet's are extremely easy to influence and it is sad. 😭

Depressed Violet is something I never want to see again. I'm glad she was able to overcome her depressed state thanks to the power of letter sending.

The old man is the MVP of the show. Bless that old man.

Whelp, it's fair to say, after being given a visual example of it, the chances of Gilbert being alive drastically dropped.

How powerful was that bullet, geez. It tore Violet's arm right off, lol.

The emotion I felt in this episode stands alongside my top 3 animes.

Her questioning of weather she deserves to be alive considering her burns resonated with my past greatly to the point I had an emotional breakdown at the end of this episode.

I can only remember 3 animes that have impacted me this much, grateful to bear witness to this anime.

This reminded me of some story that i heard about the guy regretting not able to comfort a girl that also help him through difficult times

the girl has been through a lot but he wasn't there for her he regretted it the girl decided to take her own life since then he blames herself that she died well technically it was he's fault but honestly if i were in the same situation half of myself would probably blame myself as well

Im glad violet's story didn't end up like the one i mentioned

Gilbert got shot in the eye and hip, while Violet had one arm completely severed by a single shot (that had to be a .50 caliber or something right?) and another arm blown off by a grenade. I'm surprised they both didn't die immediately from blood loss and shock.

Also, is Violet still supposed to be 14 or something right now? I'm still not sure about everyone giving her crap when she's so significantly younger than everyone else. Then again, with the way she looks and acts, I keep thinking she should be somewhere in her early to mid-20s.

Really solid episode. I don't think I'm quite understanding the hype yet, but the visuals are beautiful, the message--kind, if not a bit contrived.

Let's see where this goes~

One of the most heartaching and heartwrenching episodes in this series! Nothing could ever come close! The audience can learn a lot from this series especially handling grief.

A quote comes to mind:
Goddammit, Kayaba! I am sick! And tired! Of you kicking my heart in the dick!!!
I love this show.

That being said, not the best insert song ever. It didn't really fit the feel of the show IMO, even if the song itself wasn't bad.

i'm never going to watch this anime again. hell, i'm never going to be able to watch this anime again...
nah. probably will, let's not place any more denial on that plate.

well. first of all: what the fuck.
this removes years from my life with each and every episode, and this one in particular just slammed me on a life expectancy of a hospice patient.
he's fucking dead. what more can this anime possibly do to me in the remainder.

i find that the insert soundtracks don't impact me at all surprisingly, besides the ending "michishirube". even that, i dislike the singer's voice. i'd rather opt out of the inserts playing during scenes if anything. that's one of the few irks i find of violet evergarden.

Best think about Violet is how loyal she is to Major and will do literary anything for him.

Episode 8 showcased her at her best for the most part, this one on the other hand.

surprisingly this episode didn't make me cry. I really felt for Violet this episode, she must be going through a lot and it sucks that she doesn't really have anyone to talk about this to. I can't imagine the heartbreak she's experiencing.

this made me cry, I know the major can't be alive because that would be unrealistic and cause a lot of plot holes, but I was hoping he was. It's nice to see Violet developing into an independent young woman though!!

Didn't expect Violet to get over it that fast, but good for her. Felt pretty much like a last episode, wonder if we'll open up a new storyline next episode or if we'll continue with episodic adventures.

The war scenes are stupid, full of idiotic scenes, enemy soldiers behave like stormtroopers from Star Wars, which made it difficult to get involved in the drama.

...I don't remember this episode hitting THIS hard. And yes towards the end, I gotta admit, I cried a little. Every episode so far has been emotionally impactful- but not quite enough to move me to tears... but this one did. The colonel's answer to Violet's question just hit home. Perfect. Masterpiece. This has been the case for pretty much every episode, but now this one REALLY feels like the final episode. But obviously it's not; and heck arguably the best episode of the season is next. Wow yes this is not just a 7/10 anime which I had left it as; it's an 8 at the very least.

edit: just a SMALL nitpick though, thought it was terribly convenient how both her arms got shot/blown off, obviously to make way for her mechanical ones. But that's not even my main issue; it's that Gilbert should've been able to survive his injuries if Violet was able to survive bleeding out from losing two whole limbs lol

oh and yeah someone above mentioned the weird ass music during Violet's nightmare followed by her attempted suicide. I gotta agree on that one, didn't really fit; would've been much better off having no music at all. But other than these minor complaints, who cares. Again, episode made me cry. I can forgive any and all nitpicks or even flaws.

Felt massive cringe from the irrational and completely stupid war scenes. There's so much wrong about them.

Melodrama is constructed talentlessly and feels forced (not a fan of such, but ig i can say.) I sat through with a poker face (both outside and on the inside).

The soundtrack is EVERYWHERE. Even where it is not needed, where silence would have done much better. And it is not even that good.

The narrative is simple and maintained throughout, I like that.

I feel bad about her arms getting blown off. Her boss was wrong to make her question if she should even be there, when she's a child soldier. She did horrible acts, don't get me wrong, but she was practically groomed into becoming one. So why lecture someone, who was groomed as a child into becoming a soldier?

With that said, I still don't think this anime is good. I feel bad for Violet, but her character isn't compelling. It's just like a stranger. Sure, you feel bad for any kid that suffers like Violet did, but they aren't always compelling. You aren't invested in their character and to see them develop.

A bit overboard with the cloying sentimentalism now, come on. The sappy orchestra must've been playing in the background for the entire duration of the episode. This sort of whimsy melancholy atmosphere isn't as effective when it's the only tone that's present in any capacity.

jesus fucking christ. i actually got tears in my eyes from this episode. a couple shows before have been close to that but this was the first.

the emotionless war machine of a girl slowly finds her emotions and upon learning of gilbert's death is at a loss, and realizing what she did in the war cant be undone.
all the way for her to contemplate suicide. usually at moments like these id be saying "what the fuck" out loud but now i couldnt any noise at all.

many episodes of this have been really emotional in this is only 13 episodes long. the only other show i can quickly think of that made me do that was terror in resonance and railgun both only in the final episode(s).
