Freezing. The writing usually fluctuates somewhere between average and sub-par, seemingly depending on the motivation of the writer at the time. There have been points where the writing has been good, and a few of the characters have been developed really well. However, quite a few are generic and forgettable. Luckily, the Zero side series does a lot to develop quite a few of these side characters. The author seems to do better delivering with shorter arcs than longer ones. Most of the longer arcs have started out good, but have fizzled out towards the end. Currently, the author seems to be trying to shoehorn a side plot inside of the main plot that he's been running, and is failing pretty hard at it.

Oyasumi Punpun - I've been reading it for almost 4 years and I still don't get why it's so loved. It's not bad but It's really not as overwhelming as it pass to be, hence the dragging of my reading.

I never understood how that manga managed to be so popular considering how serious the lack of character development is for the two leads —preferring to develop useless secondary characters— and how easy the obstacles are overcame while we're dealing about heavy psychological trauma here.
Two big mistakes in my eyes for that type of manga. Like the manga tries to avoid its own subject.

But I guess that the subjects of disability —pretty rare in manga— and/or bullying are enough for gaining high popularity.

Got half way through and couldn't finish. The development was too unrealistic. It's like I'm reading a manga and not experiencing a manga. Of course, I'm not saying that it is terrible but it definitely does not deserve the hype that everyone is giving it. I was so utterly disappointed that I almost strangle my friend to death for recommending it to me.

But my biggest pet peeve is probably still Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. For this one, I actually did strangled my friend to death. I mean come on! It's about a bunch of egotistic, self centered, and entitled teenagers in a redundant Isekai manga. I can understand why the youth nowadays is going crazy over it but you're f*cking 47 years old! Trolled me so hard, it's the equivalent of you sending g@y porn virus to my computer at work.

Trigun

Aside from having an interesting main character, I barely liked anything about this manga. The art is often messy, with dust and debris obscuring the action, and half the time I had no idea what I was even looking at. Also the speech bubbles give no direction to who is talking and are extremely confusing. I would read through entire pages 3 or 4 times and still not know who was saying what. The actual story itself didn't hold much for me outside of the conflict between Vash and Knives, and it just didn't have anything particularly memorable about it. I'm told it gets better in Trigun Maximum, but I just don't care enough to read further.

Every shounen but most are regrettable. Naruto ends up being the most tripe piece of fiction I've ever read. It has a lot of good, creative, and amazing aspects of world building and character design but he does NOT follow through with them what so ever. Kishi's characters end up being husks for a plot and never seen or heard from again. The most interesting aspect of his world, aka the Akatsuki all get killed and used for one maybe TWO points in the series. We learn nothing about them other than basic information and really they could've been the final villains, but no, he had to make 5 other final bosses.

There are some others. Bleach is another, granted I didn't read it much that had lots of potential more because of his art and talent but another dud.

One Piece is pretty overrated but more on the fact that it's been going on forever.

History's strongest disciple Kenichi, cookie cutter shonen with a lack of pacing or character development, female characters are pretty much there for fanservice and for fighting the female villains (because Kenichi won't ). has some old values i find annoying (main girls dream of being a housewife for example)

KH Reborn. shallow story, main Character is pretty much peer-pressured by everyone else to be something he is not, the female characters are pretty pointless and do nothing, the whole manga is like a filler arc because not much is different at the end of it.

To love ru Darkness, my opinion on this series have changed more since it ended, i like it still, but i also realize that it is a disappointment, it relies too much on forced fan service, and many times that gets in the way of character progression, when you think that character relationships are actually going somewhere, it either halts and puts focus on other characters , some wacky hijinx happens to make the characters progress backwards or worse, it gets completely ignored later. Then there is the ending that is just like any other ending to a harem show which is pretty sad considering how much potential this series had.

I felt Nanatsu no Taizai wasted most of its potential with the "they're actually good guys!" trope and I find both Elizabeth and Meliodas to be atrocious characters. Escanor stopped me from dropping it due to his sheer hype but once the manga went on hiatus sometime earlier that was it.

I legitimately could not understand what the hell was going on for the most part of Tokyo Ghoul. Everything was just a mess of black and white, and add confusing character names and uninspired designs and I was lost. Whatever part I understood read like a typical underdog story with loads of added edge.

Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re! Too much ass pulls and the main character's an emo. The only good thing about it is that when I see someone has the same negative opinion as me about this garbage of a manga!

I really did my best. Had read the prequel and sequel completely; just to understand what was all the hype about. I ended up wasting my time.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Definitely Fruits Basket. I know that it was sorta like the foundation for modern-day shoujo, though I just find it so boring and I can't stand most of the characters, especially Tohru, who is way too overly sensitive and gets emotional way too easily.

Onanie Master Kurosawa. I don't get why a manga about someone masturbating and fantasizing about rapping girls in the girl's bathroom is called a masterpiece. Like okay, there was a lesson learned and the manga was good but it is no masterpiece. Overrated as hell

Solo Leveling - I mean I liked it too, but I refuse to believe it deserves such a high rating (8.93). It's so predictable it's laughable. Honestly, I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly as popular if the art wasn't so good.

Namaikizakari - I don't know why but the male MC has a super punchable face. He's like Usui from Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama copycat but somehow even more annoying. But in general this romance manga is full of shoujo cliches, the two MCs start out okay in the beginning but get more intolerable in the later chapters.

Edit: Well I just found another one
Chainsaw Man - Literally all the characters are intolerable, especially the male MC who only knows how to think with his balls

Exactly. Berserk is good but when people call it the greatest manga of all time I cringe. The story isn't even finished and there are so many great manga on par if not better than it.

Yes, its artstyle is gorgeous, but the rest is...pretty "averagely good", there's nothing spectacular about it

Act-age has been hyped up to be some sort of masterpiece, and I had to stop at around 25 chapters because nothing particularly interesting had happened yet. Definitely overrated, it's not terrible but it is in no way a masterpiece.

And of course, anything Maid-sama, which is just... bad...

Demon Slayer comes to mind. there's nothing exceptional about it and its hella generic.

I would say Tower of God too, but I haven't read much of it and I still hope its gonna get better

Lastly, I wanna add Claymore. I loved the first third of the manga, but after a certain incident, it just went downhill to the point of absurdness.

Based on ranking, Jumyou wo Kaitotte Moratta. Ichinen ni Tsuki, Ichimanen de. is #40 with an average rating of 8.72 and I gave it a 4.

Based on poularity, Elfen Lied is #76 with an average score of 8.00 and I gave it a 1. Probably my most hated manga so far.

Based on most favorited, it's also Elfen Lied ranked #74.

Kaiju #8

This is the first time the fanbase has actually made me dislike a series and I will proudly call myself a hater.

It's eight chapters in and so far it's just a bunch of tropes with below average execution and mediocre art that everyone keeps calling great because they're fooled by the 32 year old MC into thinking it's anything more than a subpar shounen we've seen a thousand times even though the MC acts like a teenager regardless of his age.
Also the creator of Black Clover (which was like, really-not-good at first, has been a-okay for a good while and seems to be getting slightly better as of recently) said it's the next big thing so of course everyone automatically jumped on the bandwagon.

I might give some run-of-the-mill shounen a higher score than I actually think it deserves if I connect to any of the themes personally (Kimetsu No Yaiba (anime): gave an eight; would have probably given a six if my life situation had been different when I watched it, and even now I'd never recommend it to anyone as an eight if they asked me about it), but with this thing I can't even find a core theme after they threw aside the whole "don't give up on your dreams even if you're getting old" thing in the very first chapter.

Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori - Ranked #198 on MAL this is supposed to be one of the better older isekai but it was so bad I couldn't read beyond vol. 4. You have the female protagonist Yuri who is summoned to 1600 BC Anatolia as a human sacrifice. She is rescued by Prince Kail who immediately claims possession of her as a way to protect her and sexually assaults her at least twice, Yuri is literally shown struggling to escape, crying and asking to stop and the second time when she screams out the name of her boyfriend he finally stops and immediately after she starts falling in love with Kail thinking "oh prince charming stopped with the rape after finding out I have a bf, he's so kind". This girl doesn't even have a single brain cell, on top of being attracted to the person who assaulted, her foolishness and actions cause the death of a young boy which she uses as an excuse to stay behind even though she had a chance to return back to modern day Japan. And Yuri is literally head over heals in love with Kail to the point she'd do anything just to be with him. As the cherry on top you literally have Yuri getting assaulted or raped in every volume. When she gets brutally raped by Kail's brother leaving his marks all over her body Yuri seems to be more concerned about Kail misunderstanding and thinking that she is in love with the very brother who raped her. And our hot bishie prince Kail literally thinks that she is indeed in love with that man, even her attendants start chatting about shipping. What's wrong with all these people, seriously!?

Agree, I read until chapter 60 or something and felt like wasted my time. Characters especially were so badly written and it felt like the writer only wanted to hype battles up without any story.
