Ahh yes, they finally adapted the darkness chapters, and to say the least, they went all out and beyond for this lmao. How I've missed the show and of course Daddy Daddy Do! It's been a year already damn. I really hope season 3 is this year, really really cannot wait for it. |

Okay, if we take off the ecchi scenes... Man, how I missed this show. It was so good to hear the characters voices after a long time. To hear the opening and ending was like I'm seeing Kaguya-sama for the first time again. Duuude. What a great feeling!!! Tears of pure joy flows. |

I had no problem with the ecchi scenes. Isn't Prez literally thirsting after Kaguya, and vice-versa, anyway? So him sexualizing her is fine by me. Not a day goes by that I don't pine for my significant other. And, unless I completely misunderstood the premise of this show -- Pretty sure the entire point of this series as been the progression of their relationship. Other than that, the rest of the OVA was pretty funny too. I enjoyed the Shokugeki-esque cooking antics. I'm looking forward to next season, and I'll probably read the manga either soon or definitely when it's completed. |

omg ecchi. i dislike ecchi but its so funny lmao. kaguya sama anime is one of the anime which wear long skirt and not much of fanservice. but the fanservice in ova is omg ///./// |

Felt like the fanservice was so badly done, they shouldn't have cranked it up to 11 and actually make it entirely satire and do a proper fanservice jab rather than being actual fanservice. Like the one with Kaguya undressing and the door blocking the tiddies, that's good satire, but not the one after where they have lesbo rubbing session with Chika's tiddies flaunting back and forth. The boobs physics at the beginning also made me wonder if I was watching Senran Kagura or Kaguya-sama. And I'm saying this is overdone from an ecchi fan myself. The only thing worth talking about is the food war part, great comedy and the usual Kaguya antics, but otherwise this OVA was poorly done and the first two episodes really brought down the food war episode. 6/10 |

I don't mind the fanservivce and honestly twas nice but it just wasn't what the anime needed lolz but shit nice to beat off to it kek.. But yea last 5 minutes finally felt like the genuine article and I found myself finally feeling relieved for it to only end. |

Seriously? This was absolutely amazing. Bet the people who say that "fanservice doesn't fit the show" don't even know there's an official Kaguya-sama doujinshi. Didn't expect so much ecchi from this but I laughed my arse off for a fair bit so I'll give them credit for that. Shirogane's "Don't talk about milk when someone's drinking nipples" was gold. And Ishigami's struggles are so relatable xD. Second half with the cooking contest was overall a lot better and consistent with the previous two seasons, lol. Shirogane getting the ultimate pity treatment, that's gotta hurt. Meanwhile, more Chika flops lmao. "I was like what's this woman saying". And boy, Iino-chan sure can eat! |

Prob should've waited a bit more for better quality, but OVA overall was on an okay side. The fanservice segment was too much. And overall manga had much more comedy impact. 7/10 waiting and hope that s3 will be as amazing as 2 previous ones!!! @ChloeVonEinzbern didn't even see that, thank you the best joke for OVA |

Delicious fanservice. Dropping the soap in the drain and what followed took things too far. Oh dear, I must be getting old… The porn magazine segment was absolutely hilarious, though. As was the cook-off. Fujiwara's bluffs did not hold any water this time either. And Iino sure can eat… |

Its an OVA. I don't care if it has too much fanservice or not. The last segment isn't even fanservice, just a regular gag scene lol. Stop complaining. |

Absolute trash. This is such a brilliant franchise/series and yet these OVA segments completely defied everything that makes this show so great. They went full-on fanservice. They took a pure and wholesome show and just had to put the underage female MC's in a situation like that. The entire pool and shower scenes... made me wanna never touch this show again, with or without a season 3. I saw an angry 1/10 review for this OVA before watching and thought they were being overdramatic, but when I saw the subject matter, I was equally livid. Very unnecessary fanservice, zero pleasure derived; there are right ways and wrong ways to tackle it, and they failed miserably here. This show is golden for its humor and for its clever little skits and dialogues, but this was just full-fledged sexualizing the bodies of minors for lust's sake. There's absolutely no artistry here -- you simply cannot defend the segment in saying that the shower scene was to complement Ishigami's erotica/manga dilemma. Someone said "I was it just expecting it to be brainless fanservice but the ishigami commentary made some funny lol." ... but it WAS brainless fanservice. The Ishigami commentary was just to justify it -- to distract people from the fact that they just wanted to go borderline hentai for this OVA. I'm no feminist or SJW, I'm all for getting edgy, but it's just insulting that they think this kind of oversexualized content is going to earn them views, profits, and/or praise. They're underestimating the intellect of their audience. From the first few episodes of season 1 -- and even the golden moments of season 2 -- how could they have stooped so low? Have they learned nothing from their past success or are they just experimenting? Or have they earned so much profit that they don't need to care what people think and can use the money to shamelessly animate teenage girls dogging it in the shower... Japan has such an amazing culture, outside manga/anime and inside. But I will never understand how they shamelessly go about making stuff like this in NON-hentai's. There's a time and a place for hentai, probably -- and there's ways to pull off fanservice -- but this was an epic failure. And while the rating isn't all the bad for this OVA, you can see how it drastically it dropped from season 2's "8.69" score, almost 8.7, insanely high for MyAnimeList's standards -- and the drop down to a 7.4 for this OVA is a large decrease for MyAnimeList's standards. The showrunners achieved an AVERAGE of 8.7 rating with 12 full-length episodes. And yet, with a single stand-alone OVA, they couldn't hold a candle to their past work. They had to botch their perfect streak, their near stainless reputation, with -- per Shirogane's words -- deplorable content. Such a shame. |

Yeah, you're right, watching animated naked minors crawl all over each other in the shower for five minutes straight IS fun. What was I thinking? Silly me, so devoid of the concept of fun. 😐 Also, I don't recall stating that they should care about western fan sites? I brought up the MAL score system to illustrate that CLEARLY, something was wrong with this episode if a multitude of people gave it a lower rating in contrast to the main seasons. If it has a low score on MAL, chances are that there's a similar consensus in Japan, whether it be an Eastern fan site or Japanese reviews. That's called logic. I acknowledge that their culture is different and that they value fanservice a bit more than the west, but there's countless examples of anime being acclaimed in both the East and West; and panned in the East and West. Finally, I think there's a bit of a difference between "trying to sound smart" and "expressing an opinion". It's one thing to vehemently criticize a corporation or studio -- like I have done... but starting fights on the internet because you have a different opinion is a bit shallow, George. |

It's not even the sexualized schoolgirls... it's just that there's absolutely zero substance to it. There are right and wrong ways to execute fanservice. This anime series has such good writing, but none of it showed during the first two segments. It was uncharacteristically lacking. It's as if they just did it for the heck of it. Both Monogatari and Prison School are literally the best possible examples of ecchi themes done correctly. (Not to mention, Prison School IS an ecchi, and revolves around that type of humor.) But this OVA was just fumbling over soap with extra jiggling. And like I said, "I'm all for getting edgy." My ARGUMENT is just that this OVA is cheap and half-assed. It's as if they just did it for the heck of it. That's my opinion, though. You can disagree all you want -- that's totally fine, but calling my opinion "idiotic shit" is unwarranted, as is calling western critics "wannabe elitists". I also wasn't inconsistent or biased either, I don't think. (Also, again, I never said they SHOULD consider the opinions of people on a Western site. But using logic, it's probable that if there's a lower rating on MAL, it has less acclaim in Japan too. If an anime is successful in the West, it was probably successful in the East as well. If an anime wasn't successful in the West, it probably wasn't successful in the East either. And vice versa. And this is regardless of different cultures -- even if they do value fanservice more, I don't think it will make-or-break how similar/different the scores are between the east and west.) |

No shit, that(and the censors and demand for ecchi) was the freaking point. Well, while I can certainly tolerate fanservice, it's not my favorite. So it's hard to say what "good fanservice" is, or fanservice that doesn't annoy me in particular. That's not something I can fire a concrete answer back at you. However, "good fanservice vs bad fanservice" IS an existing topic online. I actually archived this Reddit thread a while back. In terms of Monogatari: Someone called "DeTroyes1" says, "If you take out the fan service of Monogatari, you also end up taking out much of the characterization and development that shapes the series and its characters. So I would say that "Fan Service done right" would have to be that which in some way contributes to the overall narrative, by helping to convey plot or character or even setting. A good way to think about this is, if you take away the fan service, how much of what makes the particular series unique or interesting is left? I'm not just talking about titillation; what about story? Characterization? Symbolism and Metaphor? How badly does it affect the overall narrative? In shows like Monogatari and Darling in the FranXX, where teenage sexuality are major themes, removing the fan service also removes much that is central to the ideas the creators are trying to express." Someone called "Gamerunglued" said "The Monogatari series uses fanservice very well to convey the state of characters relationships and their own sexuality. It's not the camera being voyeuristic, but the character whose perspective we're in allowing us to see what they do, or what they want is to. Nadeko seducing Araragi has fanservice because she wants to be seen as sexy, Araragi talking to Hanekawa has fanservice even if she's clothed because he sees her as the "ideal" women in many ways but especially that one, but Araragi basically molesting Hachikuji, or his bathing completely naked with Shinobu isn't sexual at all, because he doesn't see either of them that way. Even the infamous toothbrush scene is a moment that redefines the relationship between Araragi and Karen, confirming to both of them that they see each other in a different light." In regards to Prison School, as well as Konosuba even: Someone called "Rainbow69Bacon" said "I personally feel like the fanservice in shows like DxD, Pris8n school and Konosuba is the type of fanservice I like most. This is because they usually tie it to a joke or something else. If someone just happens to walk into someone and their face just happens to land in their cleavage and they don't develop something out of it, no joke or character development, then they might aswell not even include it IMO" ^ He admits to liking all kinds of fanservice though. Someone named "TierddhinPendragon " responded with "Fan service not taking it self seriously would be among the "good" kind of fan service. While shameless pandering gets us nowhere. But well, it begs the question: is there no substitute for fan service for comedic effect?" - I'm not saying these random Reddit users are correct, but their opinions are ones that resonate with me and can used for a discussion like this. - Not saying you have to read all that, but it's all there. - None of that is my own words, but it is all sentiments I agree with. It's proof that people have indeed attributed Prison School and Monogatari for being fanservice correctly. I think fanservice is good if it's for characterization or if it deals with teenage sexuality like one person said. But like you acknowledged, the Kaguya scene was for the heck of it. Kaguya and Chika were never romantically interested in each other, and there's no character development because Kaguya-sama revolves around loosely related standalone scenes. It's both uncharacteristic (for the show) and pointless. Yes, both characters are innocent -- but they're part of the student council, surely they can't lack that much common sense. One other thing is that Monogatari and Prison School, and many other heavily ecchi shows, have an overarching story. This OVA, and much of the Kaguya series, are more standalone gag segments. Mostly. Kaguya's humor revolves around exaggerated "psychological warfare", the actual dialogue, and SOME circumstantial humor where characters end up in embarrassing situations -- but there's always a joke behind it. Something to justify it. However, Kaguya, revered for its joke-telling, caved in and animated borderline porn without doing anything else. (Manga or not -- if the scene IS from a manga, then the manga did it wrong too.) That's what hentai -- porn -- is for. Pointless gratification. When the thing that rocketed this show into stardom was its wit. ssjokg said: Thirdly, your logic about what is good in the west being good in the east and vice-versa is so freaking broken. I fail to see how. I acknowledged that there are cultural differences and that they value fanservice more in the east... but I truly don't think THIS would be ENOUGH to differentiate America vs Japan's cumulative scores. Big Macs are revered in America and now there are McDonald's in Japan. Pokemon is revered in Japan and now the franchise thrives in America. ... Conversely, if we see Pokemon's success in America, we can assume it is successful in Japan too? At least hypothetically? Or is that line of thought "broken"? But seriously, if you think you can, I'd LOVE to see an example of an anime that is praised in the east, but that is despised and panned in the west. Or vice versa. Because that's the point I'm trying to make. |

Was there (enough of) a demand for the shower scene to be animated, though? Like, enough to warrant the time and money to animate it? I find it hard to believe, but I also find it plausible. If enough people were begging for this to be animated, I can't be mad at the studio for doing it -- for the fans. But if it was on their own accord, I still think it's kind of insulting to the viewer. |

AlexanderHD said: I think fanservice is good if it's for characterization or if it deals with teenage sexuality like one person said. But like you acknowledged, the Kaguya scene was for the heck of it. Kaguya and Chika aren't romantically interested in each other, and there's no character development because Kaguya-sama revolves around loosely related standalone scenes. One other thing is that Monogatari and Prison School, and many other heavily ecchi shows, have an overarching story. This OVA, and much of the Kaguya series, are more standalone gag segments. Mostly. Kaguya has SOME overarching plot, but it's gradual. Kaguya's humor revolves around exaggerated "psychological warfare", dialogue, and SOME circumstantial humor where characters end up in embarrassing situations -- but there's always a joke behind it. Something to justify it. Kaguya, revered for its joke-telling, caved in and animated borderline porn without doing anything else. Manga or not -- if the scene IS from a manga, then the manga did it wrong too. That's what hentai -- porn -- is for. Yes Monogatarsi does use fanservice to convey anything it can from character relationship development to characterization and themes. But the Hitagi and Hanekawa scene specifically is just there for the fanservice. In the same scene they use silhouettes through the bath's glass door to show their skinship. That was perfect. But you also have the borderline porn which is no different(although better animated an detailed) from Kaguya. Nadeko trying to seduce Araragi makes sense, having her strip to look at the snakes makes sense, naked Shinobu in the bath etc etc. The bath scene of Neko Shiro wasnt like them. The problem is you and many others focus on just that scene and trash the whole ova. Was the scene over the top? Yes. Was there any real substance? No. Did it ruin anything? No, why would it? Is the overall story so bad that it can be destroyed by a small segment in ONE ova that is separated from the series? And there was a a joke behind it.Yes, again, I agree they went over the top but I dont see how that ruins an entire series(or at least its standing in the west). |

And there was a a joke behind it.Yes, again, I agree they went over the top but I dont see how that ruins an entire series(or at least its standing in the west). Yes! That's it! I agree with everything you're saying! I never said it ruined the entire series, nor its standing in the west! I'm ONLY talking about this one-episode OVA. The shower scene DID NOT ruin the rest of the series -- nor did it affect my enjoyment of the rice scene, per se, at the end of the oVA. The shower scene itself was stupid I think, and over the top. I have to rate this OVA poorly because the rice scene -- a 10 -- and the shower scene -- a 2 or 3 -- has to meet in the middle at like a 5-6. That's my logic for rating the entire OVA poorly. Ngl, I enjoyed the Naedko/Araragi scene, it was funny and has a purpose. Conversely, I didn't really enjoy the bath with Neko Shiro. Monogatari actually does have some pointless scenes, but it doesn't affect the series as a whole. Nor did the Kaguya shower scene. Overall, all I'm saying is that there IS a reason why this OVA alone has a low score. I think borderline porn or hentai itself is MADE to lack a purpose and just be for the sexualization -- but since Kaguya is a show full of purpose, it just feels a bit off for the scene in particular to be "for the heck of it". Which Monogatari does sometimes too... so now I guess I really am being inconsistent. |

Or vice versa. Because that's the point I'm trying to make. And just look at series that get second seasons, like Arifureta and I'm Standing on a Million Lives while stuff like Baccano, NGNL are stuck at 1 season(half cours). Fate /Stay Night 2006 is loved in Japan but is treated like trash in the west. And then there is this OVA that was made for JAPANESE fans, using manga content, sold along side the latest volume of the manga. Considering the above, yes the east wanted this and certainly they didnt start writing essays about why this is problematic for the series, the creators and the viewers.. |

Ffs, I enjoyed To Love-ru but had issues with later seasons(or ovas dont remember) for no real reason. And I assure you that I wasnt tired of fanservice. I just dont understand why the need to talk about it as if it is the end of the series as we know it. Yes I realize that it is my problem, but when I see long posts for something like this it just screws with me. |

I enjoyed the second half with the cook-off! Man, all that fried rice made me hungry for fried rice too... And those oysters... I gotta say, this OVA is not on par with the rest of the series in terms of quality. The second half was good, but it lacked some of the sophistication (especially the second season's) in the execution of the comedy that the second season excelled at. I had heard of the fanservice, but it was just okay for me. Didn't really feel too Kaguya-sama. It felt somewhat out of place with this series. I was expecting a more fun and high-quality OVA since the main series was so great. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable. 7/10. |

Christ, I was bracing myself like how they would show you in those airplane safety cards, after the narrator-san said this was the "Fanservice Chapter" but good God they really went all, felt like they were dancing on the fine line between an ecchi anime, and the good shit. But i'm not gonna complain, got some good laughs out of it as well. I haven't seen a shower scene quite so equally unhinged to mongatari's season 2 Hanekawa and Senjougahara shower sequence, until today. Genuinely thought that nothing could beat that scene, but i'll be damned they really did something here. Also the anime i least expected to top it ngl. Doing parkour from S tier fanservice, to pieces of forgotten historical literature, and finally to cooking, was not something I was expecting but i liked it. During the entire cooking segment, I was with Fujiwara in not knowing a clue about good cooking ingredients or how to cook in general, I just slap minute noodles with what ever I have in the fridge and some mystery spices I found at the back of my kitchen cuberts that have no labels, and bam its a 5* course meal in my eyes. Also, been a hot while since I last read or watched any Love is war related content, but having this as potentially my last memory of this series is something I'm not so sure how to feel about. |

Finished in a few days ago. Need BD version some time!! Need to rewatch it again on BD! And for people bitching. This OVA wasn't even meant to be released outside. You know how you manage to watch this. This is for the Japanese and Manga audiences. Don't like it? Too bad, You are not the targeted audience. No way in hell Aniplex US has the balls to even release this elsewhere like other OAD/OAB shows. Glad A-1 Studios can have fun and have these kind of moments in addition to their serious works out there. |

I remember in the manga there wasn't a lot of fan service but I guess they decided to input more details on the magazine that Ishigami was reading! As an OVA, I think it's okay if there is fan service. I really love the episode especially the cook-off. Actually, now that I think about it, the entire episode is probably a reference to Food Wars. I really miss this anime and can't wait for season 3. |

Seriously? First part was Fairy Tail OVA tier. Second part was meh. The highest point to me was watching the OP again... I guess I'll have to stick only to the main series from now on. |

Just a funny 20+ minutes OVA, not much to say. Its not like the og series is a God tier comedy or anything. Pretty average. It also seems that many people missed the joke. |
