He is a very one-dimensional character, similar to characters like Tanjiro.
He is pretty much the same like he was at the beginning of the story until now except for the tiny bit of character development he got in season 2 or 3.
I am talking only about the anime.

Hes suitable. Hes not bad or good.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

I think he's fine. He stands out from other protagonists as the one who cries the most lol. Not the most entertaining but he does his show well.

Yes, I think he's a pretty solid protagonist. Not amazing or anything but not terrible or mediocre. He's a normal kid placed in an unnormal world (if that's a word)

People's biggest complaint is that he cries a lot? Pretty garbage take if you ask me, and having a 15 year old kid cry because his greatest idol and acquaintances tell him he cant achieve his dream is pretty realistic. I counted how many times he cried too and it wasn't that often, not counting the comedic crying parts.

His overall character development is supreme, physically and mentally. The evolution of OFA is compelling to watch and you can really tell he matures and learns more about the hero world dynamics as time goes on. The writing aspect isn't even bad either. His constant self-questioning of whether he is worthy to use such a great power after a lot of luck is very human and is much better than some other Shounen protags. (looks at Naruto)

Character design nice and simple, no complaints.

Also in the manga he's GOATED, fight me.

He’s mediocre tbh. Nothing stands out about him. Just your typical shonen mc.

depends on what you mean buy a good protagonist. By good do you mean morally good then sure his very good. but if you mean a good writen charecter and interesting charecter not so much. he is very boaring and has nothing intresting about him.

He is annoying so i don't like his character. But the fact that he is better written then most of the shonen protagonist remains.

I think he’s a great protagonist as he resembles anime fans and how they want to be like the like there idol or the main anime protagonist and deku wears that like a badge

He works well for a shonen series, though I personally don’t find him that interesting of a protagonist. It’s not because he cries a lot either, he just comes off very bland to me and isn't my type preferred main character.

Deku is like a cardboard box, but he does fill the quota of being a shonen protagonist. There a reason why Bakugou is nearly equally loved by the fans, compared to Deku. Baku is the spicy sauce of the show!

He's alright.

Can't say a protagonist that I would bring up in a shounen conversation about protagonists or see myself remembering down the line once MHA finishes. However he is just right for the manga/anime.

He’s good for his part, he’s not spectacular but he’s not bad, though I feel like if he were to be removed from the story it wouldn’t have that much of an impact on it.

I think he's a good protagonist, not top tier but still very good. I think in the manga past the anime he gets a lot of good development so anime watchers probably have him lower than manga readers do.

He got pretty damn bland as the series went on. The series treats him like he's already perfect. I especially hate it when he starts narrating. Makes me zone out more than my old, groggy geography teacher. He works pretty well in some of the doujins tho lol.

I don’t think he’s that similar to tanjiro because of the situations they are both in and the setting, it seems almost like night and day to compare imo

Deku is pretty much mediocre in all possible ways and boring too. At least I find Deku better than Bakugo though because that one is annoying as hell.

Personally I love him as a protagonist.

I love experiencing the character development of Deku, and although he is a real wuss at times, I love the heroism and dedication he is able to display.

I think he suits the role of protagonist but he is probably the least interesting character in the show.

He probably could've been better if he was given more flaws to overcome or just flaws that stuck. But he doesn't really have that so I just find him extremely boring. It probably sounds harsh lol, but I don't give a damn about him.

imo:
For a Main character, I'd give him a 6/10
For a character in general, he gets like a 4/10

As an Anime only, maybe he was pretty decent in the 1st season-season 3,everything about him is generic and just develops slower and slower, still watchable and liekable imo, since in mha s4 he's a badass using cheats by eri which is an annoying plot armor+convenience imo

I mean they are similar in the way they act and behave, it's something you would expect out of those characters.

Honestly very bland in terms of Shonen protagonists. He hasn’t received any growth in terms of personality, morals, etc. since the beginning and whatever he does or says is very predictable. One of the rare cases of an anime where I care more about side characters than the MC

As an anime only, I'll say that he's not at all a nice protagonist because all he does is crying and simping for All Might.

there is a big difference between tanjiro and deku

first off tanjiro didnt got his power gifted to him like a chocolate bar and trained on his own to get as strong as he is
second tanjiro is like the big brother of the group always keeping his crazy comrades in check and taking responsibility in battle
deku is the guy who just does one thing in battle and then lets the main players duke it out while he watches on the sidelines
third their backstories
tanjiros family got brutally killed and his sister turned into a demon who he tries to get back to normal.
deku is the millenial kid that feels bad because he dosent have SUPERPOWERS
and gets the strongest power in the world gifted to him by the strongest hero in the world
and he didnt train a day in his life before he was promised that he would get superpowers
talk about entitlement

More than Deku who is relatively bland as a protagonist, I think Horikoshi just isn't a great writer.
