Good episode.
I just dont see the point on making scenes after the credits. many anime-onlys miss those kind of things.

This episode, has expected, had a good pacing because it only adapted 1.5 chapters
that is the ideal pacing for this season.
not 2 rushed chapters per episode like in episode 2 and 3
but if they plan to reach chapter 122/123, then the pacing has to be 2 chapters per episode, it works for the action packed episodes but the dialogue episodes has to be 1,5-1,8 chapters per episode or it will be rushed. Maybe the op/ed will skipped sometimes or they plan to make a double-length episode at the end?
Attack on Titan ended with chapter 123 and 130/131 is the epilogue

Exactly my thoughts, 2 chapters per episode is too much (unless they're fight scenes or battles) considering that the AOT manga chapters have over twice the number of pages a regular manga chapter has and, add the heavy dialogue on top of it. I feel delighted that they adapted 1.5 chapters in this episode just as it's always been done in the previous seasons precisely because it was the perfect pacing

More conversation about the family who has the Warhammer was good, having the Pieck scene was also great. It was refreshing to see the four enjoying life in this episode, they needed that break. The declaration preparation is going nicely. That final scene/preview was amazing. Eren's eyes changing color/shades was nice. This is where the hype and excitement is right now.

I think this is my favorite episode of this season so far, decent pacing and no visible issues.
All I ask for now is that they make use of the old soundtracks, I don't even care about anything else anymore, I beg you Mappa.
The soundtrack could make even the worst of animations feel impactful.

Another great episode!

I’m glad they didn’t just cut out the part with pieck crawling. The part with eren speaking to his grandfather was done really well.

Gonna be a bit of a long wait for the next episode unfortunately.

Not asking for any spoilers but how much % of the upcoming episodes are dialogue heavy.I heard this arc is quite political

Amazing episode!!

Best episode for me so far. AoT has also brought a little comedy in this season with Reiner buying all sorts of food for the kids.

EREN MEETS REINER. The next episode is gonna be awesome too...

It'd be great if Reiner joined the islanders and if zeke and porky died, as well reiner's mom. Let's see who else... gabi, that little shit. DIE

I'm pretty conflicted about who is in 'the right' morally speaking. It's the definition of an unfortunate consequence brought on by bad leadership and a sense of self-loathing towards a race of people - essentially the Eldians of Marley have 'cucked' themselves dry with a guilt complex. Reiner is the better man in my opinion because his actions aren't a direct result of wanting to take vengeance. Reiner also seems to have a mental fortitude that Eren lacks: he's thinking about all Eldians where as Eren is set on destroying Marley entirely despite who gets hurt. There is no real black and white, just shades of grey: it's what makes this last season so great.

Ah, this season keeps getting better by each episode.

Seeing my brother's reaction to this episode (especially when Reiner was greeted by Eren in the post credit scene) was priceless. I really envy anime-onlies about this aspect; they must be having a really good time seeing the story unraveled to them for the first time.

Unfortunately, this might also become a reason for some people to quit the series.

It happened to a friend of mine. The fact that both sides have valid reasonings behind their actions makes her feel conflicted to choose which side to cheer on, so she decided to put the series on-hold for the time being.

I am so confuse by this comment, you say Eren was angry in season 1, but now you are saying Eren is calm and collective despite seeing how his grandfather reacts and because of that he needs character development?

So you are saying Eren should be the same angry emotional Eren from season 1? Isn't that the opposite of character development if he is practically the same from season 1??? That comment was a very contradictory imo.

I'm not going to spoon feed you on why Eren character has develop but you will see that in the next episode full how Eren has changed from the angry boy with black and white view of the world back in season 1.

Eren barely could control his emotions in the early seasons, now Eren can control his emotions and he is more calm and collective, but you somehow conclude he needs character development, fyi people that doesn't show their emotion does not mean they don't care.

Edit: I said I wont spoonfeed you, but I will throw a hint at you to help you out.

here is a pic right after they took his grandpa away.

Now the question is what do you get from that image? This season is a lot more subtle and it wont be right in your face like previous, you are going to have read between the lines, so if you already misunderstanding such a simple scene to interpret it that Eren needs character development, oh boy you are going to misunderstand plenty of scenes.

"yet he keeps silent"

Wait he is a undercover why the hell would he not stay silent? Do you want him to lose his cover? I didn't even notice that you said that, please next time try and analyze these scenes more before making these contradictory, no sense comments.

I'm sorry if I seem so rude, I'm just baffled how someone could misunderstand such a simple scene, the thing that triggered me the most is that you said Eren needs character development when this is the biggest proof of how his character has grown and matured as the Eren in the past would not be able to control his emotions, hence why your comment is contradictory.

idk to me I tought he said eren had character development for s4 because unlike in s1 where he was angry and didn't fail to show it, s4 he can control his anger and can keep silent

Is a international summit organized by the Tybur family who for the rest of the world are seen as Canada pretty much.

Ambassadors from all over the world are present, not actual turist and such.

The war ended at Fort Slava. The festival in Liberio was probably in occasion of the peace treaty, and also for Willy's announcement.

So right after a war...
- Ambassadors from all around the world are gathered into one place.
- That place is Liberio, Marley. Home of the "race of devils".
- Willy Tybur, an influential figure, is about to give a heavy speech.
- And the return of Eren.
...SHIIIIT, things are about to get ugly

Ok, since three persons said I interpreted what he said wrongly perhaps I am wrong, but let me atleast try and explain why I reach to that conclusion.

in season 1 eren was angry and didn't fail to show it

Ok, I understand that part clearly.

But in season 4 eren must be even more angry as he has had the most traumatic life ever

Ok, so what I am interpreting here is that Eren is suppose to be even more angry in this final season?

yet he keeps silent even when his grandfather expresses his deep regret.

This right here can be interpreted as a sign of good character development, but the last part of his sentence is what confuses me and give me the impression its the opposite of what he meant

"YOU WANT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT .............. E R E N.

When I define the definition for want, this is what I got from google, so that is where I got the impression that he is implying that Eren needs character development, maybe his English isn't that good, but you can't blame me for interpreting it like that, basically that is a weird choice of word to say Eren has character development.

So if my English is correct he is implying Eren lacks character development, it is something that his character desires or need.

Thank you, which could be the case but my argument is can you blame me into thinking that based off what he wrote? It was a very confusing post, but when three persons said I interpreted it wrong, I was starting to doubt myself but after re reading it, I have no doubt that he either worded it wrong because English isn't his first language or he meant what he said.

'You want character development? Eren has it.''

vs

"YOU WANT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT .............. E R E N."

lol these are two completely different sentences, I am sorry I am going to have to agree to disagree here, I kinda see where you are going with this, but if you had to go out of your way in filling in the blanks for his broken English to make sense, it means he had done a poor job at expressing himself.

But until the user comes on and address his point, I will stick to my interpretation.

This is the perfect example of language barriers. Kinda funny we are having a debate about this. lol

btw not saying you are wrong, but what we are discussing about is debatable and anyone reading these post can see both sides and understand why both side interpreted it like this.

Edit: Question if he had said "need" instead of "want" would you still interpret it the same or would you opinion change?

No, because what they said before the last sentence makes it clear what they mean. They are acknowledging Eren has developed. The last sentence is simply missing the question mark.

I'm starting to get confused by the politics of the anime now... what are Marley trying to do exactly? I thought they were trying to get rid of the Paradis Island people but it doesn't seem like that? Also confused about what the Tyber family head is after or am I being a little premature in that area and it'll be revealed?

That scene with Eren and his granddad had so much impact and it was actually really sad. Nothing can beat the thrill of that last scene after the credits though. I wonder what Eren is looking to achieve by revealing himself to Reiner.

oh my god its finally happening.

I started to get bored of the kids and wanted the scouts back but finally Eren meets Reiner. Falco is in for a big surprise.

Im curious if they already have ties to some insiders with Marley.

Sadly the sound design is pretty weak, I noticed this before especially last EP but it really holds the anime back.

PS: I thought we wouldnt get an episode over christmas, do we get one this week as well or is there a delay like most anime have?

1- What are you even talking about, never said there wasn't any ep adapted 1:1 since season 1, just that none that was adapted faithfully like this since season 1 (meaning the setup; slow paced exposition, minor additions and overall atmospheric without really skipping a single thing, overall very solid slow-burner instead of the fast pacing we got ever since Season 2 with rare exceptions... which, on themselves, were trimmed and "quick action" focused overall).

3- And no, those were fine as is, it was a good cut and I will just link you a 12+ paragraphs long reply in which I analyzed them in the previous ep's thread compared to the content to be covered soon and why everything was adapted considerably very well without losing anything substantial (though someone already made a post detailing it even better than myself some days ago), if you want to keep going on that point.

Fast pacing is what we had in episode 2 and 3. extremely fast. no time to breath and feel the characters. I dont recall that in past seasons. only episode 8 and 9 of season 3 part 2 had something similar. you keep using that as an example but thats a lie. this is the first time we had people making critics about fast pacing.

and I have to disagree with you about the cut content. you didnt mention the ackerman subplot cut which is important for chapter 112
zeke screentime has been reduced to nothing. again another "little scene" involing him was cut in this episode. this is no good.

This season is making Reiner look like the main character. In the manga Zeke had more appearances and dialogue. This is bad considering that the real main characters of this season are Eren and Zeke.

Suuuper late reply, my bad, I'm really all over the place with internet presence.

1) With the exception of that odd final episode (bad alternative take imo) and the lengthy training flashback chapters (these are super condensed ever since season 1 really, and became more of a chronological thing in there), Season 1 mostly adapted 1-1.5 chapters per episode, covering a bit more ground with action heavy ones. That pacing became much faster, 2-2.5 chapters starting from season 2, then actually rushed and poorly adapted when season 3 part 1 came around (to be fair, by the choice of the author to try condensing a perfectly fine slow burner arc, imo), then back to just being slightly distilled and fast paced, like season 2 (though a degree faster, when talking about S3 pt2 and S4 right now).

Information being skipped so far was either talked about already (they also compensate that by inserting information in the eye-catches in each episode, especially the more info-dumpy ones, since the very start), or will be talked about in much more detail later on, like the Ackerman exposition you just mention; even though, if you are on pair with the manga, it's not quite a necessary plot device considering it was a red herring all along (and Eren just used it to break his friends heart for them to have the freedom to stop them without considering their bond with him).

In each case, not an information with NECESSARILY have to get here.
Considering that Isayama and the staff are maintaining some fan favorite little scenes like Pieck's ass out of order, I wouldn't be surprised if even the few romantic teasing panels they skipped regarding Falco and Gabi were adapted later on as well.

They have been doing these rearrangings since forever too, so there's no point in being upset about them not popping up as relevant information or "teased" as core information to be expanded upon like the manga does, as long as they actually get it all in there.

Reiner parallels and issues, and how he handled his mental state will also all be revisited in his conversation with Eren in the next episode, as well as their plan as heroes trying to save the world from demons due to their Marleyan brainwash, which to me is funny to even see manga readers bitching about when they KNOW that subject will be specifically talked about in quite an amazing dialogue soon after, and that goes for most things people are saying that were skipped.

Maybe one exception is the Wall plan (which will still be revisited in this very next conversation anyway), but knowing what their plan was in the first place from already dozens of episodes beforehand, it really is just more specific info about how it all went down that isn't necessary to the plot's overall comprehension (as cool as it would be to have seen some more female titan action assisting them in the invasion animated, and some strategy/planning talk, which is also part of the fun).

2)Also no, Zeke was much less of a central figure than Reiner, and he was the absolute parallel to Eren's own decision in the next episode. He is the most important character in this entire arc, and Zeke will only get such importance in the first half of the final one (up to chapter 122 being more precise). In this arc he is just a
.

Zeke barely had screen-time (outside essential content) in this arc so far for a reason, even in the manga (with the little scenes they skipped from him).

3) If you think that's the first time people have been complaining about the fast pacing, I recommend you taking a look as early as episode 4 discussions, even Season 1 had episodes people found to be straight rushed and/or badly put together (especially because of them skipping several early Reiner, Annie and Burrito moments that served as foreshadowing for their sudden reveal later). In retrospect, despite season 1 adapting so well the content in hand with a super atmospheric pacing (to the point of having complains of the opposite, aka the pacing being too slow), the adaptation of characterization of each character got shafted to a degree since the beginning (Eren being a hate bubble instead of a reasonable but overly sentimental kid, due to the lack of his monologuing and some interactions being skipped, Mikasa becoming a meme for how much Ereh-centered she was, while in the manga, she is more of a mother figure to both Armin and Eren and have a much better display of that, and Armin being quite the coward here and there, despite being one of the bravest albeit weakest in the entire cast ever since the beginning in the manga (All of which during the first few arcs however, they did fix these going forward in other ways).

I assume you either haven't been discussing this series back in the day, or just didn't know, there was always complains about the pacing, especially S1 and S3 pt1 (S2 and S3 pt2 having less, on specific episodes).

*regarding memes*

I don't think this one is too translatable to the anime medium, to be fair (unlike the titan faces). People would just complain about it being off-model or something, at that. Then again, the point still stands, Isayama is picking even smaller scenes he consider worth putting, even if they are just memes, like Pieck's ass and "Sasuga Pieck-chan, that's exactly right!" (which I imagine he will use some more, since Zeke didn't repeat it to make it a catchphrase yet lol)

Marley was created by Warhammer Titan, So the Paradise is not only fighting against human but also titans.

Mappa's work isnot bad but it doesnot feel as good as Wit. I doubt they can deliver a good action scene though it will not be as bad as seven deadly sins or I hope.

Watch any of the following anime from Mappa and come back here and tell me if they really aren't capable of delivering even better action scenes than Wit (especially when quite a ton of top tier animators from Wit's Shingeki are working in this final season since episode 1):

Hajime no Ippo: Rising
Zankyou no Terror
Jujutsu Kaisen
Dororo (you will find a single episode that was outsourced in this, despite being budget)
The God of High School (as terrible as the adaptation is, we are talking about action scenes alone)
Inuyashiki (3DCGI being the only iffy stuff in here, much like Wit's Shingeki)
Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis (literally movie quality action scenes in TV format)
Ushio to Tora
Garo: Honoo no Kokuin (and this was a surprisingly low budget production, except for the movie, which was much higher in that regard)

Heck, you are watching Jujutsu Kaisen, that one alone already had some quite as well animated action scenes (and Shingeki has been in pre-production for so much longer than that one, at that).

Amazing how he was hiding in plain sight. The long hair, the bandage over the face, I totally did not know it was him. Who else was shocked?

It's interesting to see that Eren seems way more level-headed and mature now. I wonder how this confrontation's gonna go down?

Eren is almost following the character arc of Luke Skywalker. Of course it's Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey.

Just a normal morning and you see something crawling on the floor.

How scary!!! But that’s just Pieck with her usual walk, so don’t worry lol

I was not shocked at all, it was super obvious.
The person with the long hair, missing leg, bandage around the head only had to say maybe 2 sentences until I noticed he and Eren have the same voice-actor.

From that moment i was sure it was Eren, because there is no way they would give Eren's voice to another caracter, and from there on I was confused why is there.

In fact I was (and still am) super confused by this season as a whole.

I am only watching the anime, and since episode 1 of this season it feels like they skipped multiple chapters of the manga.

(Keep your Spoilers for yourself please!)

I mean the whole timeskip thing is all nice, but there are/were no explanations whatsoever up until now, so it feelt like I am watching a completely different anime with titans in.

After 1 I was completely lost to the point that I thought I had missed some episodes of S3-P2 but nope I've seen them all.
Then after Episode 3 I had a bit of an Idea what could have happened during the timeskip, and then Eren just pops up without any explanation again.

I hope we get some exlpanations soon, otherwise this season will ruin the end of an otherwise really good anime for me.
