Quite an underwhelming finale that felt like a fanservice episode.

Overall, I think this show started as amazing but then started to lose its charm somewhere in the second half and ended up just as an average show for me.

When I saw all those places back again I was scared to see those heartbreaking memories again. But with how Elaina grew up and faced her past made it all more warming. Hope to see a sequel to it soon.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

Dissapointed =(

I was expecting more due to the somewhat hype and also due to the overall score.

This anime has a crisis of identity.

Meh, just episode 5 and 6 were actually enjoyable.
I really wish I could have enjoyed this more.

So this is how it ends... By showing us how Elaina is a narcissist. I wanted so much to defend her at first but in the end there's nothing to defend. This episode just proved the only person she is willing to help is herself (and so that if she helps someone else, that'd be only if it can help her in some way).
Also, she said that's how she made peace with herself ? Because she wasn't already at peace with herself before ? If she wasn't then it would've been nice for the show to actually show it.
And the whole reason behind why Violent Elaina plunged into despair is because she lost her hair. I mean that's definitely faithful to Elaina's character but this just goes to show how incredibly superficial she is. And all her flaws wouldn't be an issue if the show aknowledged them as such. Instead, it just tells us that Elaina is completely in the right. No she's not, no she's not some kind of role-model, that's completely stupid.
And the worst being that since according to the show she doesn't need to change, she consequently doesn't receive any real development. The little exchange between Elaina and Violent Elaina ("-Haven't you seen the moment love turned into hatred ? -Never") confirms that.

This show is a weird one. Between Elaina's messy characterization, the questionable message, the fetichisms, the mental illnesses portrayed in a completely ridiculous way, and so many other things, it really doesn't make it the beautiful show so many people claim it to be. It is really a weird show, that's what it is.
But I can't say I didn't like it, and it still has its qualities, so I give it a 6. Or 5... I don't know, depends on how I'll feel about it in a few days.

Almost every episode displays her narcissism, usually by starting the episode like "Who's that beauty, etc, etc".

The show never tells us Elaina is in the right. It sometimes even points out problems caused by her inaction such as the possible suicidal slave in ep 3 or everyone dying in the past in ep 9, just off the top of my head. At best, it makes it clear that Elaina is neutral, she is not a hero and she is just an ordinary traveler. She doesn't have any obligation to put her life at risk for people she just met. The show never says she's a good/right person for remaining neutral, though.

I will agree that the show is weird and the writing is weak but Elaina was a pretty good character.

I never said that Elaina isn't portrayed as a narcissist before, what I meant was that it is an attitude that should've been changed (there's nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself, but there's a difference between feeling good aboit yourself and being a narcissist), yet in the end she is just comforted into that mindset which shows an issue with the character development.
It goes along with what I say afterwards, yes the consequences of her passivity are shown but the show always comforts Elaina into this "You can't change what happens, just follow your own path and close your eyes to others' sufferings" mindset as if it didn't need to be corrected. So there's an issue whether with the message or with the narration and the character development.

And I wouldn't say that Elaina is a bad character, but I'm still a bit bothered by the way she is written, though the narration is probably to blame, at least to some extent.

Okay so that's an interesting way to reveal that she's gay. Also Saya may actually have a shot.
Main Elena saying that greedy Elena is just the usual her, was the best line. I actually came back after dropping the show after I heard about this episode.

Now for the bad part. It really doesn't feel like violent Elena was talking about her hair being cut. It sounded more like she was stressing about that time she left hundred of people to be eaten by plants. Which makes it seem like main Elena is deluding herself.

Woah, what a strange way to end the show but also rather a nice way to put Elaina's Journey and experiences in a single episode. Props to Elaina's Seiyuu for giving us a really good performance on those other Elainas. Other Elainas put on lots of Hilarious moments in this episode Haha.
Overall , a really surprising show that's unique and had lots of great moments, not to mention the wonderful visuals. It had a few episodes that were not as good as the rest but I enjoyed the entirety of it a lot. I hope they give it a season 2.
An 8/10 for me , it was surely a nice little journey( • v • )

Felt so much like a final I was worried this was really the end in the LN too.
The after credit like scene was a bit weird though, kinda just "yeah I travel with that girl in the future too". NO GO TRAVEL WITH SAYA

Anyway interesting episode, I always thought Elainas insight and her honest character were a strong point of the show. Not quite the best episode though and especially the focus of violent elaina on the time travel city. In protagonists version things didnt end on a happy note at all either. (Ok apparently the anime fucked up here, but I dont understand what the LN does here either)

Saya would have probably the same dream, I mean 17 Elainas, atleast 1 is into her even.

Overall really enjoyed this show thx to the main character. Would like to see a sequel but I highly doubt it with this type of show.
I liked that we had reoccuring characters, this made it better than Kino no tabi but it was a bit too frequent at the cost of experiencing more interesting countries.
Also this again confuses me because .. time travel, alternate dimension elainas all writing the book together would explain why she never seems to .. grow from her experiences, but thats an explanation it doesnt make anything better.

Might pick up the LN just for Elaina, shes a refreshing main character and the story seems like a nice mix of serious emotional episodes and fluff. But Im also afraid it might ruin my idea of it.

8 doesnt feel quite right after it got weaker in the end, so its back to 7.

PS: wait a moment, the story we see is made up of events in Elainas Book right? So the book also contains stories Elaina never experienced herself? So we cant be sure what we witness actually affects Elaina as it could have been the story of someone else? Seems unnecessarily convoluted.

Cringey Elaina knocked me off my chair. Literally I fell off laughing suddenly no idea why. SayaElaina universe confirmed with a yuri Elaina. It's cool, but I kinda feel like shipping "our Elaina" and "Violent Elaina", they look so cute together!
I was thinking Saya would travel with her at some point, but that's been cancelled at a the end with the whole book drop thing. Amnesia's got Elaina's book lol.

I like the first episode and it have similarities with Kino no Tabi but I got disappointed with some of the episodes. It's fine if she don't want to mind other business but she helps all other people except those people in flower country and the slave girl. I feel bad for them! she's not consistent with her choice, she's OP but can't help them. They show some "dark" episode but it's not that too dark. I still prefer Kino no Tabi. She's egocentric and I'm annoyed with yuri bait too. 5/10

Truly enjoyed this show. Elaina goes to the country where she can fulfil her wishes and then she is found along with 15 other personalities of her… to be honest, all these 15 different personalities again showed parts of Elaina and the Ecchi Elaina was extremely funny, not to mention the others as well. The violent and Protagonist Elaina fight and make up… so this show checked off parallel earths as well from the genre list… the sc-fi genre… WoW. Turns out it was all a dream, but the catch is… it wasn’t… the 16 witches return back to their own earth and continue with their journey. The journal Is called ‘Wandering Witch’. Elaina bumps into another young girl, named Amnesia. We are told that she travel with Elaina in the future, so maybe she is an apprentice. This could possibly be hinting to a season 2 in fact. I would give the show an 8/10 and definitely would recommend it to others. The animation, plot, characters, voice overs, was all good. I think that some of the stories were left unfinished at the start till episode 3/4… Overall very good.

Looked like a cheeky recap at first with those mashup buildings, then became literally fighting then 'making peace with yourself'. Like the show, a mix of fun & serious character development, regrets, whatif timelines.
That Saya lover was surprising lol, but clearly Elaina loves herself the most.
The beautiful art, refreshing non-tryhard mc, & variety of comedy/drama gave this journey a lot of fun.

So many Elainas xD. That was an incredible and fun performance by Kaede Hondo! Pretty amazing, honestly.

The way the episode was going I didn't think she would end up facing what happened in episode 9 but that happened. I'm glad she was able to make peace with herself.

New cute girl at the end voiced by Konomi Kohara who by the book she was carrying and her own name (Amnesia lol), suffers from amnesia. It seems she swapped books with Elaina accidentally so.... will she think she is Elaina? That will be interesting xD.

Anyway, great series. I personally liked the comedic and lighthearted episodes more but the darker episodes were also good.

P.S. I still can't believe Reina Ueda sings the OP, I thought her voice was quite recognizable but this OP proved me wrong.

I dont get it. It was nice all the various Elaina's could bond after a show down with the last one in her journey who had lost her hair and not retrieved it and gave me the idea that each of them in this multiverse had come to it at some point on giving up on traveling further for whatever reason. But meh, theirs not even a hint of closure that I could understand.

Quite fitting for a last episode, with all those other versions of Elaina and even her befriending and sharing the bed with the 'evil' her ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Its kinda bad how Elaina is an inconcistent character where she's able to help others but acts as an observer in certain parts while in others not.Other than that I found this anime quite enjoyable because of the animation, action and the stories (reminiscent of Kino's journey).

An episode all about Elaina? Very fitting for such a narcissist egotistical self-centered charming, beautiful young lady that makes you smile & sigh heaps when you gaze upon her!

Really though, it was quite nice to see how Elaina is able to get a bit of closure on some of those "What-if" moments of her adventure. She's had to make many choices along the way and not all of them have been satisfactory. Her encounter with Nino came to mind, which makes it a shame that it wasn't brought up as one of her regrets. Overall though, this was a fitting way to mark the end of this chapter of the Wandering Witch. Interestingly enough, the title doesn't include her name.

Well as a whole, this turned out to be quite the find. The art was stunning and the premise rang very similarly to one of my personal favorites, Kino's Journey. Although they may be similar at the surface, I certainly wouldn't try to draw too many parallels between them. While Kino's Journey emphasizes moral quandaries, Elaina's journey is a bit more straightforward and more often than not favors fetishism over philosophy. And I suppose that's what stopped me from falling in love with this otherwise fresh adventure. Ironically, the darker tales ended up being the least interesting and any moments of reflection were all too brief. That didn't stop the stories from being fun & I certainly liked the lighthearted nature of this, but I had to draw that distinction early on lest I be disappointed that Elaina couldn't be Kino's spiritual successor.

7.5/10, I really would be fond of seeing more. Stories about traveling have always fascinated me and it makes me wish I could live like that.

Ik im late but I just finished this show a few days ago and I have a feeling Nike isn't Elaine's mother. I mean Elaine's mother and Fran met together in the beginning of the show and it didn't look like they knew each other. So my theory is that Elaina is actually Nike. Almost like pre-destiny or something. We already know that time travel is possible so its not hard to imagine.

SPOILER FOR EP. 12
And this might be a stretch but did you see how Elaina met a girl named amnesia (or whatever her name was) at the end of ep 12? Well what if Elaina forgets herself and losses her memories and takes on the persona of Nike to remember herself. And then realizes she was Nike all along and has to go back in time to make sure that Elaine's life happens. Because you know complicated space time continuum stuff.

Someone agree with me or poke holes in my theory im curious!

LOL @ all the Elainas

Also, why are there even 3 Emo Elainas anyways?

HAHA, the OG Elaina has "no personality" compared to the other Elainas.

"Ghoul Elainas died" (isn't Ghoul technically already dead? lol)

And Violent Elainas is the short hair Elainas... I should have already saw that coming since the Puppet episode where OG Elainas wants to kill people...

(except apparently Violent Elainas had a bad journey, and her "loved one turn to hate" is most likely the telling of Selena and Violent Elainas was like Estelle but both event happened in the Ripper town at same time where bunch of ppls actually died and their hair stolen and given to dolls)

___ ___ ___

What's interesting is... at the beginning OG Elaina's "wish" was "to be rich"... and there's a "Cash Elaina". So doesn't this mean Cash Elaina is the real wish of OG Elaina?

___ ___ ___

This was quite an interesting episode. I actually wish they would show more daily life of other Elainas. (cause apparently there's something like 20+ at the end of episode... even Cat and Dog girl Elainas, and I also saw a Plant Elaina and Russian Elaina... lol)

Tho that Violent and OG Elaina sharing a bed together... good thing it wasn't the "Yuri" Elainas there, LOL, or maybe bad thing cause I know ppls here wants Lewd Elainas.

___ ___ ___

Also, I wonder if she remember the other girl's Diaries... cause that would have given her a huge collection of volumes for her Journey she's writing. (since all the Elainas had a different journey and experience)

I was riding at 8/10 on this show until the finale, and just upgraded my score to 9/10. What a beautiful finale!

Elaina's journey has always been about self-discovery to understand herself and her place in this world, and what her purpose was. We see her meet up with the 16x versions of herself as it was all of their destinies to arrive at this final juncture. Each version represents a different possible Elaina that would have been who she really was if circumstances were slightly altered, just as it could be for any person. But, they all had in common the deep burning desire for said self-discovery which was why all were in the same boat in the end. This was the final realization arrived at by Our Elaina and Violent Elaina. They realized they were both in fact really the same person as this was all nothing more than a played out exercise by Our Elaina to figure out who she really was by confronting these other pretend versions of herself. We can guess this was all just a pretend visualization within the mind of Our Elaina; meaning these weren't actually different Elainas from parallel universes. Rather, it was an exercise for Elaina to find herself.

We conclude with seeing that Elaina's drive was to then write a book titled ""Wandering Witch", inspired from the "Adventures of Nike" (Nee-Kay) that helped her find herself. She then identified a potential apprentice also with a newfound love for writing that she wants to train since that's what the best witches end up doing; they pass on their knowledge to the next (just as Elaina's teacher set up an elaborate hoax to get Elaina to seek her out with the help of Elaina's parents). So she bumped into her on purpose as a test with two note pages that we see fall to the ground. When that girl initially responded very respectfully and apologetically for being too focused on writing while walking and offering Elaina back her apple before picking up her own book, it was then Elaina realized this was a really sweet soul worthy of her teachings, and she put the two pages of notes into her book which presumably will tell her to seek her out when she's ready. The final thoughts from Elaina tell us that even she didn't realize the destiny that brought them two together. And we can only imagine what that story is...that is until Season 2 shows us that story!

p.s. I LOVED that time-travel episode and the fantastic finale!

Finally finished watching the anime.
At first, I didn't really like it too much especially because of episodes 3 & 4 portraying Elaina as an ignorant person etc. But her character development starts to get better each episode forward.

Episode 12 is really funny because almost the entire episode is voiced by Kaede Hondo (except for the ending of a new character).

I hope there will be a season 2, because I can't wait to see more countries, Elaina, & friends will travel to and become future stories in the book.

That ending episode was... alright. Sure, I couldn't really care about any other versions minus for Violent, but still.
I mean, I can see how that end scene will lead to the next adventures; but honestly, after the whole thing, I just don't really care.

The most I cared about Elaina was in Episode 9. I feel that if there were more episodes like that, I'd feel more strongly about her character, or at least connect more with her. Overall, the adventures were only okay. None of the countries really stood out like in Kino's Journey, but I'm really trying not to compare the two too much, since they're within separate genres.

The other characters were nice. Mainly the teachers and her mother. After those characters, the other side characters get, so, so much worse. Along with her sister (because she's Saya: incest version), Saya was the literal worst part of this series to me. I found the truth of how they were introduced to be creepy, to the point I had no idea how Elaina could accept her, while any other normal person would probably freak the hell out and try to get immediately away from a crazy person like Saya. Then she's basically the obsessive yuri character. I detest those types because there's basically nothing to them except their singular obsession with another. Basically, I loathed when Saya is brought up, and even more so when she appears in an episode. I think I even skipped a good chunk of Ep 11 to skip over the "oh we switched bodies. If you weren't around I'd abuse it to my heart's content" from Saya.

Won't lie, it could have done with a male side character too.
Either way, it was a 5/10 from me. Saya will certainly remain on my mental list of "worst side characters in fiction" as I will now try to clear my brain of her.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

Pretty average finale. I expected something better.

Overall, a decent show, but this could have been much better. There were some good episodes and moments here and there, but it feels this show didn't know what it tried to be. It was too random and incoherent.

The biggest issue was Elaine and her messy characterization.

This show pales in comparison to Flying Witch or Little Witch Academia for example.

After the first two episodes I expected to give this 8-9/10 but 7/10 is probably more reasonable score.

Oh, I find it by far better than Flying Witch but they haven't the same purpose.
LWA is the best of the 3 but I prefer Elaina over LWA's characters. She really is the spotlight of the serie, ironically if we confront it with her position in those stories.
