This episode is more focused on Marley, and finally Galliard's face is shown.

It's a warm scene where the returning people reunited with their families and loved ones, but when I saw the battlefield in the first episode, many people couldn't come back

It was really interesting to be honest, it helps to understand that cruel world better and I can't wait to see more development for the new characters they recently introduced. Also Reiner looks like my old friend Francis now!
This reminds me about that ferret which peed on my necktie, I hate these animals, I know I hate lots of animals but they hate me too, please make shingeki no ferret someday

The world building of this show (and episode itself) is really interesting, with the aftermath of that 4 year old war. Now we get to see the livelihood of the people inside the walls again.

While there's no action for this episode, it still really captured the mood of humanity really and their hope for the future imo.

good 2nd episode. there wasn't a lot in this episode compared to the first. but in terms of plot, things are looking more hype.

also, I like the manga art more than this after seeing Pieck and the celebration with Gabi, in fact, quite a lot of scenes...

Solid episode to carry forward from last week's action fest!

Aside from some of the laggy camera angles which is pretty obvious to be honest, everything else from the worldbuilding to the VA and the feel of the episode was on point.

Reiner's illusions, we're finally seeing more of it now. That's some brainwashing from the obaa-san, on another note.

Seems like the ED theme is out so I'll just going to go jam on to that.

Character animation seems choppy at times but I don't really mind.

MAPPA bl** when Reiner meets the kids strikes again though the lighting and blur usage for most of the episode was actually pretty good imo.

Better than the first episode in terms of direction imo

This episode adapted chapters 93 and the first half of chapter 94 as well as half of chapter 95, and from seeing the preview they will continue to adapt from chapter 94.

But that slight flashback Reiner had broke me a little.

and oh ye confirmed that they gonna use old WIT animated scenes for flashback like that scene where Reiner had a nightmare of Mikasa doing circus blade gear action

This episode reminded me of WWII. The arm bands, the uniforms, the train, the camp. I sort of understand why Reiner is the way he is now with the PTSD. He probably sees himself in Falco and their group.

Things that I noticed: Mappa's art style has some sort of low frame fluidity to it. It's not bad, but it definitely different from WIT's style. It almost makes the movements look like CGI. The pacing is also too fast imo, bit I don't think they can slow it down without losing the audience which just want the action.

We saw the daily life in Marley.

I really liked the first episode but the camera movements felt really weird in this one. I hope it gets better in the next episode.

I don’t think we have to worry about this adaptation since they are rearranging things to suit it better for episodic wise.
Good episode overall with an anime-only content again.

I found this episode to be average at best. They cut out important panels from the manga and reordered the flow of the story here and there. The animation felt iffy throughout the episode, which is disappointing.

Really sad to see people not replying here but discussing why Mappa 'ruined' Aot and stuff :(

Speaking of the episode itself it was really good. I thought the pacing was good. Someone confirm please the amount of chapters covered here. The next episode is titled 'The Door of Hope'.

There wasn't any action this episode bit the character animation during Gabi's conversation with her family was really good. The backgrounds were rich and detailed. The colours were really good too imo. Overall, great episode.

Apart from those 2 cuts with Zeke and Udo where it was kind of choppy everything else was amazing. The characters move so much, the new OST is brilliant and the directing along with camera movements is much better than I expected. This adapted 93 and first halves of 94 and 95. They cut some stuff but it was very trivial IMO. I liked this episode better than the 1st one so it's another 10/10 for me.

Again with the people complaining about the animation. Can't we just enjoy things and be grateful instead of overly criticizing the animation? I believe this is because the subs aren't out yet and the fact that AoT changed studios. Get over it people and try to actually enjoy the anime. Seesh.

Pretty great episode today! Personally prefer it over the first one. I've had no issue with the pacing, and even if I would have preferred having no cuts at all, what they cut was in no way indispensable to the arc. The arrangement, from an anime storytelling point of view also makes more sense to me. Moving from flashback to present to flashback again would have been quite weird. (Rip pieck ass but heh)

On the technical side of things, this is most likely the most well animated dialogue episode of the franchise, which surprised me a lot.
The episode has a very surprising amount of character acting and quite ambitious camera work for the most basic of things. Zeke, smoking a a cigarette and Colt walking up the stairs with the camera following their steps, the camera tracking Reiner's head as he wakes up, Zeke giving fucking coffee, Udo getting on edge and expressing his anger through his body language and Gabi doing the same but for her excitement. There's more but I'm too lazy to mention those so I made a little streamable video with some bits of movement from the episode I liked:

VIDEO:

You barely see these in AOT, especially in a pure dialogue episode which impressed me.

Outside of movement, the art itself was also very good, especially in the first half. very strong AD work. I particularely love the lines on the clothing on those Marley uniform, and under the eyes. Reiner also looks the best he has ever looked. The shading, lighting work and expressions were also on point

Props to Reiner's shots which look quite fantastic and very accurate to the emotions Isayama drawin in the manga. Never seen Reiner look this good. That Porco shot is also amazing

The direction was very nice and I wish episode 1 was as well directed as this one. Daisuke Tokudo did a tremendous work and the episode has a LOT of atmosphere. That mini subplot of the Eldian killing himself overnight and his family and neighbours morning his death the next day, all taking place in the background was a super nice touch which added more tension and reminded us that the Liberio ghetto was far from a cozy place. The color work was also pretty nice and I enjoyed it for the most part.

I also really loved the background art of this episode, the props, walls, houses ect were very well drawn and on part with what I expected from Kusanagi. Very good stuff. Another visual aspect that surprised me is the photography. I've seen dozens of complaints about it for last episode when I thought it was honestly innofensive. But in this episode, I found it honestly very good. Probably Asakawa's best work. With this episode's good direction, she succefully gave each scene a different atmosphere and it's very easy to distinct all the different moods of the episode by simply looking at how it looks. The photography helped making the drawings look very crisp and I really hope people watch this episode in high quality because this is how it deserves to be watched. I hope I wont be seeing terrible "no blur" edits that just slap a baffling over-done sharpen filter and saturation.

So yeah, very satisfied with this episode. This and Bystander are probably my two favorite pure dialogue episodes, this one taking the cake visually-wise. Congrats to the team for pulling it off. I hope to see more of those and potentially even better for the future. I can't wait for the big action episodes!

I agree with this, I notice this as well, kinda bother me but not major, but when subs are out persons will be more focusing on reading it so it wont be that noticeable.

You really can't talk about the pacing tbh, because its rearrange. So pacing criticism is out of the window, we will just have to watch each episode and enjoy, because we can't be quick to say they skip this or that and then in the next episode or even future episode its brought back probably in a anime original scene.

So I think persons should stop focusing on the pacing and just enjoy the adaptation we can't make any prediction now, so might as well.

WIT never had this much animation for the characters. WIT characters were so detailed but that was only because they ever barely moved.

Also guys, we still see Pieck's ass on the couch. Yes, her jumpscaring Galliard with it would have been funny to see but it was in no way necessary. It would have ruined the flow of the episode.

This second episode was great.
I really liked the animation in this episode.
We get to see a bit of Reiner's PTSD. We saw a bit of the Marley warriors as kids.
Ah yes, Porco and Pieck are looking great also a good choice for their voice actors.
That family reunion was wholesome but they live in the internment zone.
The next episode is Reiner's backstory episode.

I absolutely agree with you....the pacing was fantastic in my opinion....they cut out the most unnecessary of things...imo they didn't cut out anything that's gonna be important for the future....also yeah wit did great at giving us the illusion of quality animation by raising their art quality to the highest of highs....which is why people don't notice that the animation was basically non existent in a lot and I mean a lot of scenes..... Mappa on the other hand is actually giving us real quality.... Even while keeping the art quality mostly fantastic... Wish haters would see that though.....

So I take it we have to wait for another 4-5 hours for the subs to come out. Sigh...

looks like some of the character animation are rotoscope https://twitter.com/AnimeAjay/status/1338144903151431682 but a rough or lacking in-between one that is so it does not have much fluidity or smooth animation

The rotoscopy reminded me of Kugisaki Nobara's starting sequence in JJK OP. It's good though overall.

To be fair, the dialogue episodes made by WIT Studio had mostly boring directing and the characters practically didn't move (s3 bruh). MAPPA can handle dialogue much better lol

So I think persons should stop focusing on the pacing and just enjoy the adaptation we can't make any prediction now, so might as well.

ye but overall this is way better animated than the first episode imo

Yeah, after rewatching it, this was well directed imo.

Dam, a lot better than i imagined, way better than episode 1, the direction in particular was really good, sometimes a little too ambitious, but i dont mind it at all it was great overall. The character acting was also pretty strong, great art with some decent movement here and there, some kinda strange rotoscoped scenes, but i very much believe its better than stills, so again, i dont mind it at all.

The direction of this episode was God-tier and don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Also, I like how quiet it is here compared to when the first episode aired. People are enjoying the episode, no one is posting 10 threads a minute complaining. Very wholesome energy. Lets keep it.

Do you think '' MironBiron'' gonne like it ?

Way better than the first episode imo, great work mappa, this goes to show how much an episode director can change things
