Not a good anime at all. Pretty slow and a snoozefest 90% of the time. The basketball aspect was absolutely catastrophic with a game taking 10 episodes or more to complete and the plays just being low budget slide shows. 4/10

Ahiru No Sora - Season 1 Review

This anime isn’t flashy in any particular way. Nothing extravagant about the animation quality, the action sequences weren’t anything to remember BUT the emotional aspect and character development is something that’s really gravitated me towards this anime. It’s more then just a sports anime and I’ve experienced all emotions with this show. I’d be disappointed if there isn’t a Season 2 as I’d only expect this show to get even better.

Plot Aspect: B
Animation Aspect: C
Action Aspect: C
Emotional Aspect: A

Overall Rating: 8/10

Everytime I watched this show, it motivated me to play basketball. I'm going to miss it very much, especially since we barely get any basketball anime. Even if the animation in the matches was lacking, I still really enjoyed it. I loved the drama, the character development, the atmosphere and the realism. I've seen bad news for season 2, but I'm hopeful that it's going to happen.

I agree with a few of you that Madoka seems to have been a waste. I'm really sad there was zero pay off for all the time we spent on her throughout the season. But based on her last line this eps, it seems we won't get that until the next season (if we have one).

I thought the overall story and character development of the show was great. There are so many characters that you actually care about. Could have been some better pacing I guess. And of course animation was meh.

7/10 for me. It was a 6, but these last 2 episodes brought it back up for me. Hopefully we get more

Ahh my heart. This was a heart warming final episode for the anime. Wonder if it'll get another season. I didn't think I'd enjoy the anime but I did. (Also they got in that beach episode lol)

Can really tell the show is heavily influenced by Slam Dunk, Heck the manga was even shown for one of the opposing team players as a source of wanting to play basket, and thats great.
Despite that it had its own strengths, the struggle of Sora's Mother, The Childrens growth and guilt. These were all great.

When the whole Kuro no Basket Zone crap came in though. That kinda made it disappointing, The biggest difference is probably the fact there is just so much more going on in the foreground than other sports anime, Illnesses, lost love, people hurting themselves cause they don't know what else to do with their frustrations.

The end of the prelims was probably its highest point. after that it was well a drag to go through.

My one complain would be the animation. It really took away from the matches. Really enjoyed this anime but I would be lying if I said the lack of animation didn’t affect my enjoyment.

Other than that. My favourite sports anime. I love love love love LOVEEEEE these characters. All my best boys! They have come such a long way. Really a great coming-of-age story. Makes me emotional. I have to get into the manga. I just have too. These boys, and Nao, are too precious. Happy go ducky!!!!!! ♡

but i’ll probably remember over and over again

Club is basically back, the advisor also back, team is ready for next year tournament, when is the second season ready?

Its frustrating to see them lose every time but also realistic as the team of noobs and players who once quit the sport just started a few months ago and played against teams with a lot more skills, training, members and experience. I'm kind of suprised and happy how the more noob players weren't cast off to the bench at the moment the team had their ideal lineup where they even played a somewhat important role on the field. One thing I'm kind of disappointed with is the animation that felt like one still image after the other making some episodes rather boring but overall pretty good season.

I feel bad for sora because he's crushing on her and she gives him mixed signals.I really wish the author wouldn't play with Sora's emotions. I might be taking this to far, but remember in the last episode that he said blushing, she just keeps on getting prettier every day. I felt very disappointed with the ending of the 2nd season. I felt like Madoka should not have been part of the story, what was the point of her character to sora, like if she was going to not be important to him(Sora) romanticly speaking, than she should not have gotten so involved with his very deep and personal issues(Soras mom). it had me on edge waiting for her to get with sora. and now Im not sure that's going to happen. I know that it's probably selfish to feel this way, but I got pretty attached to Sora and Madoka. I'm butthurt. I'm mad at the ending. I know that Madoka doesn't owe Sora anything but this is how I feel. damn this feels like your lie in April or guilty crown or angle beats all over again. how the hell did I end up heartbroken? i guess i'm too tough to cry. I'm pretty sad about the ending. please help me get over this ending.

The last few Episodes really ruined this show for me. They were at the bottom and were building from that, but the last few episodes dropped them ever further. Not my kind of anime. I wanted to see them grow, but it just got messed up. The last few episodes needed to be not as hard, but they did and I lost interest. Sad. The show was great till episode 46. Wish it ended at 46. -_-

This has really been something else. Usually, I find sports anime to be a solid source of motivation for my own training & fitness, yet this went beyond that. As a former delinquent, I really resonated with the overarching scenario. Ahiru no Sora would have been a real life changer - possibly a life saver - if I had watched it in early high school. Seeing the guys of Kuzu go from aimless bums to driven athletes has been fantastic. I like how none of the characters felt like toss-aways. I found myself completely immersed in the growth & attitude change of the entire cast - including Yasu, Chuck & Nabe. I was so excited when Nabe took that final shot only to audibly sigh when he was so far off the mark. As rough around the edges as their team is, it's clear that everyone is going to eventually be indispensible to Kuzu's growth into proper competitors.

Ahiru no Sora is every bit about character growth as it is about character building. From responsibility to redemption, seeing this band of troublemakers get their acts together and become passionate really struck a chord with me on a personal level. Early on, they made excuses about not working hard because it wouldn't look cool. Now, 50 episodes later, they're driven to aim higher and that's about as badass as it gets.

Another thing that really got me about this series is how it shows the gravity of what's required to achieve great goals. Never once do they win a match and it really sinks in what the difference is between those who are just getting back up from rock bottom vs those who have spent years fighting tooth & nail to stand at the top. The ones who have polished their skills for years and never once slacked off are naturally going to be the ones to succeed, which is why the defeat in the Inter-High prelims really set things up for the perseverance and dedication required to ascend to those heights.

As far as the game itself goes, I really like how dysfunctional the team was. The characters constantly having to try new positions & formations to find what clicks really let that sense of growth click together. It also really opens the door on how they can take all of these individually strong players and give them a true sense of teamwork.

All in all, this series really ended up being a nice find. I had a special feeling about it as soon as I hit play and I'll probably be hard pressed to find a sports series that has such a relatable slice of life element mixed in.

8.5/10. Also, Satsuki really is the MVP here.

I really liked the show a lot, it made me feel motivated and is a very soft anime for you to watch, I would love to see an second season, although the fact that they weren't even close to winning any match was boring to me, especially knowing all that they've been up to but I'll always feel a fondness when remembering the show and all the characters.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING SOME TIME TO READ MY DUMB THOUGHTS

This is the second basketball anime that I've watched. The other one is Kuroko's Basketball.

There is a clear difference between the two anime and to me the story of this series is simply more compelling.

Ahiru No Sora focuses way more on what goes on off the court and ties that into the basketball games. Prime examples include the formation of the Kuzuryu team, the impact of the locker room fire and Yuka's death happening simultaneously (which by the way the foreshadowing on that was nothing but excellent), and some of the stuff going on with Madoka as well.

To go deeper into my assessment of Ahiru No Sora's story, I want to briefly highlight what else I find so compelling about the series. One, it seems that Chiaki is part mind reader and can break the fourth wall. For example in Episode 27 when Sora is thinking back to Chiaki's confidence, he thinks back to a couple of pervy scenes from Chiaki and he says something along the lines of "you could've chosen better scenes". I'VE NEVER ONCE SEEN THAT KIND OF THING BEFORE. Also when Nanao fell into a puddle some kids said she was LIKE AN ANIME CHARACTER, WHICH IS FUNNY BECAUSE THIS IS AN ACTUAL ANIME. There was also plenty of comedic moments, like how Yasu scored ON THE OPPONENT'S BASKET.

The rise of the basketball team from Sora's first interaction with Momoharu's group all the way to the recruiting of certain players was definitely interesting to see. The crazy thing is that I didn't see coming is the fact that Kuzu never won a single game in the series. That's a start contrast from the fact Seiren won the majority of the games within Kuroko's basketball.

Overall I give the series a 9/10 and I would while it has the advantage in the story of the series, Kuroko's Basketball definitely has more interesting basketball games.

Im not gonna lie, I start watch this anime because I saw the image of Sora and Madoka when I first found this anime. Honestly it get me curious what its all about. Well, I have to admit I enjoy watching it at first and what happen between Sora and Madoka got me hooked up to see more because Im curious. But then I started to saw some hint, who Madoka will like, so I kind of start searching about it online. Well I have to be honest, its kind of break my heart, and this completely ruin my mood to continue watching it, I already gone almost half-way, but honestly what I found out completely ruin my mood. Well I know some people not gonna agree with me, and maybe some did. Why I didnt agree with who Madoka like in this anime so far, first Sora like her, and he's the main character, so our perspective gonna be on him most all the time, second the anime introduced Madoka as kind of main heroine, and she's kind of main character too, so we will see her a lot. So when the author did this kind of plot, honestly for me its completely ruin my motivation altogether, even though Im still curious about how Sora basketball life gonna end up. *sigh, I hope its got next season, and I still want to know if Sora still have chance, still hoping here, haha

I have to say that while I really really enjoyed my time with this show I feel abit conflicted now I'm finished with it. I mean I watched the whole series in a week so I was very engaged with it, I laughed and I enjoyed the journeys of the majority of the characters.

But now I'm done with it and I think it's fair to say this is unlikely to get an Anime sequel I do feel slightly shortchanged, not because it isn't finished because of course it isn't but more that I watched a 50 episode sport series with just 3 matches and all of which our heroes lost. There is plenty of reasons for all of this but I can't help myself from comparing it to the likes of Haikyuu etc and just how much more the story progressed in that same amount of episodes.

I'm also conflicted on Sora's journey in this series, the death of his mother felt premature plot wise and also totally without impact to the series overall. We barely see Sora's growth from this life changing event, neither do we see him grieve once. The series spends multiple episodes focusing on the guilt from the clubhouse fire instead which was good drama but also Sora's mother died and yet the School are like 'yeah lets kill the basketball club he's in too'. I mean it's actually fucked up. Also the addition of the other short player and him being taught by Sora's mother and also apparently learning more from her just left me feeling kinda bitter. For the manga that gets to expand on that storyline sure I guess that's an okay plot but for the Anime to just reveal that, have Sora get schooled by him on the court and then the show ends. Again leaves a slight bitter aftertaste.

As for the love interest of the series I have no idea what the show is doing with her. Well I have a good idea where it'll end up long term but in just this series itself it felt so half assed that I don't know why they bothered with it. Like the studio probably knew they weren't going to get to make a sequel so why not just leave the whole date with that random dude out. We spend a precious 10-15 minutes I think on all of that in that final arc and it amounted to absolutely nothing.

ANYWAY lol despite all of this I did really like the series. I do hate that I always focus on the negatives, it's probably because I was going to give this series a 9/10 until those last 5 or so episodes where alot of these thoughts I just typed out began to swirl in my mind. I could go on but no one is likely to read all of this so I'll just say I thought the show was still great, I had a fun week watching it and despite all of my feelings I'll give the show a 8/10. Ultimately my main issue is we won't get anymore seasons where all my issues would eventually be ironed out afterall. :)

was an 8/10 after the first half but.. i lower my score to 7/10. I expected the victory for the last match but they lost again. the lost every match.
Blonde dude: useless
Tall dude: useless
Chiaki: Great
Kenji: Real Main character
Sora: Weak, you expect more from him but after the first episodes he is just average
I know this is a long serie and they will have development but i expected more. 7/10
