| Big Mom has her hunger pangs and Kaido has his drunken fits. Last episode felt like when Big Mom had her meltdown at the wedding - the only chance to catch Kaido off guard was before he sobered up. It was brutal seeing him one hit KO Luffy. Still, I do feel like the overwhelming might of the emperors is what makes them so profound. I can't even imagine what gear Luffy is going to have to get to in order to finally stand a chance against either one, much less Blackbeard or Akainu. Only thing that legitimately bothered me was Luffy standing on the ground in Gear Four. |

While i agree that impact in the manga was better, i think anime in the last two episodes did a good job for anime onlies. Luffy gave his absolute power limit and it still wasn't enough even to scratch DRUNK Kaido and then he got one shoted. I think it helped expand that half a chapter without big pacing issues. Also, now when in the manga Oda skips a lot of not that important content to speed up the story, anime staff could use this chance to filled up cool mixed filler content.
| @edvtam1 This is how I feel. I haven't read the manga to compare, but having read descriptions of it, I really liked the anime's approach. You see Luffy unleash absolute hell on Kaido, and you think "wow, he's really doing it! Luffy is awesome! THIS is why he's considered one of the Emperors!" only for Kaido to just swat Luffy away. Then you realize, a Luffy onslaught that would normally wreck an opponent just...pushed Kaido around a bit. After everything, the episode ends with Kaido seeming completely unfazed, like nothing had actually happened. And I liked the "rage aura" as people are calling it - it shows that Luffy is pushing beyond his normal limits, yet he STILL lost. Miserably. Is it different from the manga? Probably. But I think it still gets the point across. Of course, I don't know where the story goes from here. |
