I see you like fugo, did u know purple haze feedback is written by boogiepop's author?

Sure do. Even this forum set i'm using now comes from Araki's art from PHF.

The pacing is weird, like explaining everything in the second episode then quickly resolving a bunch of tension one episode later? Most of the characters are pretty bland

That animation during that fight seen was jarringly bad, too

It's turning out to be pretty mediocre, but the writing is decent.

This show is so weird. Well I guess this was the end of the first arc. We ended at the end of the first episode, kinda tying the timeline together. Despite things coming together, I never really felt a sense of satisfaction or a "lightbulb on" moment like I often did watching Durarara. So it was decent overall, tho I expected the manticore stuff would last longer. I guess we will be going through quite a few arcs by episode 18.

Wish we had the Madhouse of OPM/NGNL doing this. Some of the shots were kinda derpy, especially the echos/manticore chase. It was fluid at least.

echo seemed cool, sad he's gone.

the part where he archer dood ran away screaming and then coming back calmly with a bow to shoot the man-eater seems legit.

Hmm, this is like the end of the prologue, I feel like the real story is just starting now. I wonder if the story will be about the evaluation of mankind that Echoes made.

One problem I have with the first three episodes, is that you need to watch them all in a row to really get the story, since it's written in a non-linear way. I don't know if the rest of the series will be written like that; if that's the case, I'll probably wait for its completion .

Those first three episodes were confusing as hell but entertaining. I liked the conclusion of this arc despite it feeling a bit rushed. Glad Kirima is alive, she's my favorite so far.
Overall I quite like this show, especially the music and the atmosphere, so I'll keep watching.

i really don't like that they crammed the first novel into 3 ep, also the show would be much better off with darker art and weirder writing. it just feels rushed. that said, so far it is ok.
Jan 11, 2019 7:27 PM
While not necessarily bad, this show feels insanely rushed. I feel like I'm watching the first couple episodes of TG:re 2 -- spending more time trying to figure out what's going on in the story than actually enjoying the show.

I wasn't sure how I felt about this series but I'm glad I stuck it out. I would have dropped episode one normally and stuck with episode two out of curiosity. This time it made it all worth it. That culminated in an awesome ending of an arc! I thought the whole series would be about closing off this manticore business, but it seems we'll get a bunch of smaller arcs told non chronologically! Cool.

To be fair the characters and story weren't amazing by any means. But, we had all loose ends cut off and the story makes sense, I found myself actually rooting for the characters this time and I sympathized a little with Saotome. On my rating scale I would give this arc a 6/10, it was very awesome aesthetically, it had a phenomenal soundtrack and some really cool directing, and it came together with a lot of interesting even if unexplored ideas to end with a fast paced and gripping episode that made my eyes water a bit at the end.

I honestly would have made this episode 1 but after seeing it I understand why its not. It beautifully implemented the dead bodies we saw flashed at us in the first episodes and those earlier episodes tied together the story lines like Takeda and Boogie's relationship, established Boogie, and gave us a very satisfying ending by having the Kirima greeting of Miyashita that ended episode one be the end of this arc, presumably at least. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a Saotome perspective episode since he had some untapped depth!

So we had a little cat and mouse game where Tanaka the baby boy who off screen met with Boogie and was rallied up by her was trying to find the kind, and dead Naoko as he dated her, we had Saotome who was using the kind hearted students as a bait and presumably cleared out the teacher on watch with the man-eater, and Kei who seems to have just been a girl who in the end was a great person and cared about a missing student. I wish we saw more of Tanaka growing and agreeing to fight back after he ran and possibly met up with Boogie but I was still very excited when he popped the manticore's face off while she dangled in Boogie's web. I also really liked Kei and how strong willed she was, she was moved by Echoe's kindness and tried to help him as he was tossed off the building. Echoe himself was adorable as he started to use words and made a judgement that some humans are good and he should fight for them, sacrificing and risking his own life to do so. He saw Naoko and Kei and Kirima all fighting for good and that was enough! Saotome showed that he was happy to die, he was sick of being normal, and finally he was able to become special, his inferiority complex and grudge against Kirima came to an end as he had a sense of eccentricity and power. He even started to love killing others for how it made him feel it seems. He was a man at rock bottom with nothing to lose and something to gain, some sense of superiority or some sense of being someone I think. The manticore didn't go much deeper than what we knew but I love how she was characterized anyways, her rage over what happened to Saotome felt justified, she even wanted to be in Kirima's form for him as he was jealous over his feeling for Kirima.

Kirima attacked and went in on a trap that she understood to take them hostage and lure out the manticore but was taken by their overwhelming power and killed, her body flashed to use in episode 1. She thought that if the only way to lure it out is to risk her life then she'd gladly do it. From the moment she turned off the breakers I was on the edge of my seat. Saotome getting a thirst for blood even if cheesy made for an excellent intense split between the Devilman-esque animation of Echoes vs the manticore and Saotome chasing after Kei who fought against him regardless with her strong will. And it ended so cool with Echoe's making a clear judgement on humanity and going through a character arc of sorts. The music was always on point, I particularly loved how it cut when the manticore was sniped, it signified it was all over.

I ALSO LOVE HOW BOOGIE FINALLY MADE IT CLEAR WHAT SHE IS. She is the dormant strength humans harbour subconsciously, maybe their will embodied. It's not clear why Miyashita is her host, but what is clear is that, that is why she's able to inspire the way she does. She is literally the embodied willpower of a human in a powerful form and perhaps that's why she let Kirima, and Kei do the fighting and why she inspired Tanaka, because their willpower and strength is almost enough on its own. They were able to grow from this. I hope we get to know even more about her.

Overall, episode 1 and 2 were nothing amazing, they had some interesting ideas and cool directing but that's as far as I would go. And I think episode 3 used those interesting ideas in a shallow but very fun and satisfying way and I'm excited for the suicide that was shown at the end hinting towards the next arc. Maybe ep 1 should have used more clips from this one other than the bodies.

Ooooh boy, I can feel it in my bones that this anime is going 2 b extremely controversial here on MAL and the rest of the internet, it might even reach Darling In The Franxx levels of controversy... Anyways, this episode wrapped everything together, which is nice, things r starting 2 become a lot clearer now. I didn't think the animation was as bad as most ppl keep saying it is. The blurriness I think is supposed 2 b an aesthetic.
So the manticore died just like that, huh. A little bit unexpected. I thought this would go on for a bit of more episodes, but I guess I was wrong. Still, that probably means that whatever comes up next will be way better!
So far, I think this anime is great, however that's coming from some1 that hasn't read the LN. After this anime finishes, I might read the LN just 2 see how much I missed.

I don't know. This episode was really dull, in my opinion. Nothing much happened for the first half, and then the second half was incredibly rushed. A lot of the characters look very similar and I, not being from Japan, am having a hard time keeping everyone straight based on their names. Some of the art and animation was abysmal. I hope it gets better with the next arc.

I really like how this series presents itself. It's quiet, but it's engaging at the same time. We've come full circle, and the first arc is done. Well there's plenty of stories to tell in Boogiepop, so we got a lot more mysteries to go.

The story is there, I like it. It's the structuring and pacing of this first arc that lacked.

Boopiepop appeared first episode and left saying the threat has disappeared. There was not enough of an insight into the whole situation for the story to make sense. What did Boogiepop have anything to do with the incidents of the disappearing girls? Is Takeda meant to be the protagonist? He really didn't do much.

I don't how how this arc played out in the novels, but the structure of in the anime makes sense in the way that it starts adding layers to the story and building character interactions. The shortcomings is that since it's the premiere, most viewers go in without much of an understanding for the story, so the producers have to put in extra detail for the viewers' understanding. It wasn't obvious when the flashbacks were coming in, especially the ones with Saotome and Manticore (speaking of which, I don't think we saw a resolution with him in this arc. What happened to him? Is he going to appear again?).

The double episode premiere was a good thing since I don't know if I would've continued if there wasn't a second episode readily available. The story is actually pretty good. I will keep watching, hopefully Madhouse won't leave us confused anymore.

Now I get why this serie has so low score. Good ideas, bad execution and A LOT of bland and forgettable characters (Saotome is especially terrible, just your typical edgy, traumatized and completely unreal villian). I'm still interested to see what's going on further, but this rushed arc just gave me a pretty bad impression, even when the first chapter and part of the second weren't so bad.

Utter, pretentious... misunderstanding of the character. "Saotome" in post-bubble Japan is as real as revisionism. Psychos like that who are born under different circumstances are out there and we don't know it, yet they get no chance to "bloom" like Saotome did. Especially in Japan. You living in a narrow world of yours does not mean others have to know as little as well.

How can you properly end a phenomenon named "Boogiepop", really? The episodes serve its purpose, there is a message(~) in them, but to somehow conclude a natural phenomenon is quite a hard work. I don't see any problem with the series as it is (but to answer your question I don't know).

For some reason I don't mind the pacing of those three episodes, it felt like this first arc was kind of an introduction to the rest of the show and now we'll get to the "real stuff" (but I may be wrong). The first episode scared me a bit but with the next ones I feel like it's actually an easy story to follow, you just have to keep up a bit with all those names. And god this opening is growing on me a lot
