Get out of here. Violet is at least 20 years old lol But sure, she can only be relatable if she's 14 or less right?
Anyway, this episode actually got me in the feels. I thought the story was cute and the scene at the end where the Princess kneels down in respect of her mother figure... Man... I actually nearly cried. Pretty much the only emotion this series has got out of me thus far.
I specially enjoyed seeing the different outfits for the Princess. Violet is still bland as ever, that MOE pulling-my-face-to-smile thing is meh.

I have to say so far this is one of the best episodes. The first four didn't really catch my attention but this one really got to me. Maybe it was the the fact that I liked the more personal handwritten letters or the bond between the princess and her handmaid but I really enjoyed it.

Ok, this is the first episode after episode 1 that was excellent imo. Really nice plot in this ep, looked at first like it was going to be some cliche story about unhappy forced wedding, but the fact that it was no so was pleasantly surprising.
Violet was mostly unimportant in this ep, maybe that was what made it so good? She is one of the most uninteresting MC I have ever seen, hopefully that will change.

So are they attacking the hollowness of Victorian upper class socialising? Or the other way around?

Episode itself was better. Pretty episode, but I do feel slightly emotionally detached/contemptful

Interesting episode. Violet continues to learn about emotion, while helping the Princess.

But, how about that ending? Looks like we're soon going to learn more about Violet's past.

And omg... she smiled at the end.

This smile.. It's not the best but it's something about it that just lets us know, she's somewhat happy of the progress she's making.

On the other hand, who is this random at the end. He better not make Violet remember her past about the major. We need her to keep learning new things for herself.

My emotions were going into a rush with the back and fourth text-messdage like scenes the princess and the prince was goign through. I just couldn't stop smiling.

The previous episodes have been pretty shitty and while I don't like the idea of a 14 year old marrying, this is still the best and most interesting episode yet. I wonder if it's also true about the ancient kingdoms back then for 10 year olds to marry.

Also, did I miss like ten episodes or is Violet suddenly having emotion all of a sudden? She made little progress in the last few episodes yet now its suddenly so different.

The letters after all the fancy ones were great :)

Charlotte's relationship with Alberta hit me in the feels. They're pretty much mother and daughter, and that ending scene was beautiful.

I love the world building in this show. It's all so cool.

I was afraid that they might not touch the subject of Violet killing all those people during the war. I'm glad it's happening, but I'm also not ready for this at the same time 😭

Claudia mentioned at the beginning of the episode she has been working as Doll for months now and had many assignments during that time. There was a small time skip. This episode showed Violet is slowly taking initiatives on her own as a Doll which started with episode 3. First she decided to hand over a letter to Luculia's brother. Then she went with Iris' parents request ignoring Iris. And here she suggested that Charlotte share handwritten letters with the Prince.

Lol I knew it was Cattleya on the prince side, since the letter was bit more sensual. Glad Violet, after the months timeskip, improved from troublemaking noob to become an equal to Cattleya when she stepped into the Drossel royal palace.
Nice flower theme everywhere, white Camellia & red Rose.
Some of the shipping crowd has more detail than mcs in other shows. The romance & letters were beautiful & felt genuine.
Surprising Violet became proactive & makes an effort that undermines her own job rules to connect Damian & Charlotte better. She's still a love letter consultant even tho Charlotte's writing it. And her first genuine smile, she's changing so much.
Now oniichan Dietcoke is back & angry.

I liked this episode as it had Violet expanding emotionally. She understood the problems Charlotte was having and came up with the best way to fix the situation.

The political union became a love match.

Violet should get a fricken raise for preventing another war.

This series is really putting the hooks in.

The first best episode and the most romantic one as well.

The first letters made by violet and the other auto-memories were rather
too fancy When it started to handwritten letters, it really got more interesting.
Now that feels like a real love letter. And it should be. I love the prince
and princess' interactions. Under that 14 year old sassy princess lies a
tough, smart, and short tempered woman. I'm glad she got married but the sad
part is she has to leave her mother figure.

This is violet's biggest and the most accomplished job. Not only she made the
two get married but prevented another war. Amazing. She deserves a bonus
or a raise. Or both.

And she finally smiled for the first time.

Being an auto-memories doll suit her so well.

For all those crying 'pedo' on this episode. Remember several things:

1. This is a political marriage to unite powerful noble families.
2. Historically this has happened on Earth.
3. There is no reason to think the marriage will be consummated until she's 16, which is the age of consent in most places.

I'm trying to like this show, its art is amazing and the setting is quite interesting, but come on, all this melodrama and a total absence of plot so far...

Not saying the show is bad at all, but I don't like that kind of shows (nearly no plot, centered in romances), does it get a proper plot in the next episodes or is the whole show like the former episodes??

Pedophile episode really. Sure when this princess got married she was the old age of FOURTEEN but much of the episode was her and her ten years her senior finacee reminiscing about the fond first meeting from four years ago. When she was TEN. Many seemed to have loved this episode, I only felt disgust. I could have tolerated this if the episode stuck with this being a political marriage which would have been bad enough with the bride being FOURTEEN but at least it would have been for sake of trying to keep war from breaking out again. But no, it was this young girl being "in love" with an older man who she met at TEN YEARS OLD! The man should be in prison, nothing romantic about child brides.

Aw this one was so cute. What a lovely story and I even cried haha. Alberta was like her mother so the princess must feel so sad.
But omg did violet say she was 14?! What the heck anime XD she looks like she's in her 20s. But if violet is 14 then is the princess like 10?!
Anyways Violet actually smiled and that was cute. The end was pretty interesting too. Maybe they'll be some fighting or something.

-Violet directly took what she learned from situations such as that of Iris' and applied it here. The Princess made an assumption regarding the feelings of the Prince, just as Iris had made an assumption regarding the feelings of the one she had been enamored by. Rather than permitting the assumption to continue and possibly leading to a misunderstanding and undesirable outcome as what Iris had done to herself, Violet took the initiative to coerce the Prince to admit how he really felt. This facilitated a much more fruitful conversation and fortunately led to a positive ending. Although, even had the Prince not accepted the Princess, she would have an answer and that alone provides peace and closure, which would allow her to make informed decisions pertaining to that matter going forward. Problem though, is that this won't always be the wisest method depending on the situation, and it was fortunate that this didn't backfire spectacularly.

-Violet understood the lunch for a favor exchange this time around, whereas she didn't with Iris.

-The relationship between Charlotte and Alberta was so sweet.

-Violet's smile. She kno she dun gud. Despite not being able to extract emotional subtext herself, she's understanding more about how human feelings aren't always as they appear at face value.

-Not sure how I feel about the show escalating from her being able to barely handle family drama to writing love letters with the fate of kingdoms at stake. There was a bit of a timeskip, however it feels as though we've missed some progression.

Like I said if this episode had the plot be about a political marriage then I would be able to tolerate it but this is a "love story" where all the characters approve the union and the writers clearly want the audience to approve as well by emphasizing the "romance". I can't accept the argument that because at the time it was acceptable that I should be cooing over this. Understanding it yes but approve? Hell, no.

14 years old... Why just why anime, Violet looks like 18-20 when compared to other characters, and sure acts like it... Why did she go to war then? A girl that young would only b a liability for anyone else, I refuse to believe it's feasible for her to be this killing machine... I liked the episode, but that part with her age made half of the show not make sense.

This was such a beautiful episode! It covered both romantic love and parental love in a single episode! It may seem Violet didn't do much but not only she initiated the idea, her helping Charlotte to write letters took Charlotte to the point where she could just start writing on her own. It was really wonderfully handled if we pay attention.

Charlotte being 14 years old and having 10 years difference is nothing considering the pseudo time this anime is showing. Well, even in these days, people get married in wider age difference.

Another impressive part was how Alberta took a breath and upped her chin before entering Charlotte's room for the final time. It was incredible. She may not be her mother but that's what she was to Charlotte and perhaps considered Charlotte as her own daughter which she didn't show on her face in front Charlotte. The moment Charlotte gracefully took Alberta's hand was so beautiful.

Fun Fact: Alberta is known as "Wild Rose Country".

The last segment makes me think the anime will now enter the original content.

Bumped my rating back to 9/10 again. I wonder whether I will continue swinging my rating for this anime over the whole season!
I love your whole comment! You expressed how I feel :))

I was in love with Charlotte and Damian's genuine letter exchanges. I laughed when people from both countries read their letters, like the two men who wanted Damian to just tell Charlotte to be with him. ;P Damian seems like an honest and reassuring person, which I could see how Charlotte fell in love with him :)) Charlotte is determined and hardworking, so I think Damian feels energized with her. And it was touching when Damian proposed to Charlotte in-person, at the same garden where they first met each other four years ago T<T

I adore that this episode displayed that you could fall in love with someone based on feelings alone, without major considerations like their age. If you feel at home or happy with someone, then that's all that matters to you. You could meet someone your age and not love them romantically, no matter how hard you try. Charlotte and Damian seem compatible through their patience during their letter exchanges, so I think they'll enjoy their marriage :))

I liked seeing Charlotte grow up. Charlotte had no regrets on marrying Damian, yet it's understandable that she didn't want to leave her country and Alberta specifically. I don't like that Charlotte had to move away either, but it is understandable since Charlotte and Damian's marriage is between people from two countries. (Patriarchy is alive, so women automatically marrying into men's families is still a concept -_-)

I'm glad that through Charlotte and her relationships, Violet has gained more insights on love (romantic and parental). This episode was fulfilling <3

i. When Violet walked through the castle entrance gate under the trees, I was absolutely stunned by the shadows, lighting, shading. The attention to detail is insane, and the animation on the lighting and walking was lifeiike. Throughout this episode I began to really notice how each and every frame of animation is truly art, like a high-budget film would be. This show is seriously gorgeous.

ii. I also hadn't realized Megumi Nakajima was voicing Charlotte until the scene where Charlotte was opening up to Violet about her vulnerabilities; then I could hear the Ranka Lee. Very impressive control of her voice.

iii. The maid's name is Alberta. ...Like the Canadian province. I can't unthink that thought. Even if it is the feminine of Alberto.

I think this show's biggest problem is its lack of dramatic tension or cinematic/narrative relief; give the audience time to soak in events that have transpired, or let them relax and take in the silence. These are areas where Mushi-shi and Aria excel in, and this way of directing by adding more dramatic tension, breaks, and suspense is what I feel makes Aria nad Mushi-shi superior still to Violet Evergarden; everything in EVG so far has been rushing narrative after narrative. I remember the tranquil beauty of Aria and Mushi-shi, and could see how such a filmmaking technique would've made this show more enjoyable.
