Quite an enjoyable finale. The captain managed to make the most of his brief appearance (and life)... The assassination plot was wrapped up well, at least every team member survived. I also liked how Dorothy tricked Ange, a heart-warming trick and a proof that Ange doesn't hold the monopoly of lies.

I'd gladly stick around for another season of loli spies.

Season 2 or riot break down the wall again

Drachen said:
So pleasant to see that the gang got back together in the final episode, especially after the tense state in which we were left after Episode 11. Yngwie's death was telegraphed but nonetheless unfortunate to see, as you can tell that was a man who had a genuine interest in his country. "Ange" and "Charlotte's" ultimate reunion was extremely heartfelt and touching, one fitting for two girls with such history. The lack of the opening was a bit sacrilegious for me, but they made up for it (slightly) by playing the theme alongside the credits.
Indeed, it was great to see (albeit we all sort of knew) that Dorothy was alright. I was actually surprised to find out that Bea had been with her the entire time, as like we talked about she kind of just up and disappeared lol. There'd already been a high quantity of Dorothy x Bea fan art but now that the masses have seen Bea's decision to follow Dorothy, I'm sure the amount of shipping and art will rise so high as to... get across the wall.

Yeah, it was sad to see Ywngie's heavily foreshadowed death come to pass, he truly did love his country and had the best intentions in mind.

I think the usage of the OP as the end credit song was a much more powerful choice, it really added impact to the theme as it played over the finale, though I do admit that it's not quite the same without those rocking visuals.

On the slightest of quibbles though, I will say that I personally did find the overall conclusion of the series to be a bit too quick for my liking, I definitely would have liked a 13 episode count if a 2-cour was out of the question. I think the show really could have benefited from even one extra episode.

In the greater context of things, I'm comforted by the fact that not only was it a fairly conclusive (though somewhat premature) ending but there's also a foundation established for a second season. It did feel all too inviting to see the importance laid upon the scenes of Zelda's escape and the Duke of Normandy's "letter", but perhaps it's all for a "just in case" scenario where they have the money and interest to continue. Still can't help but be a bit miffed that we were teased with the case ordering only to result in having a single season's worth of episodes.
For sure, there were lots of points that could be addressed in a season 2, from the unresolved conflict with Zelda to the continuing implication of the Duke's schemes. It does seem to be more of a safe ending, with either the potential to continue should the interest arise, but also with a sufficient conclusion to consider it resolved overall. but I want more + all of the skipped cases for sure

At any rate, Princess Principal was one of the best series of Summer 2017 and certainly one of my favorites for the whole year. We can only hope that the anime gods (or rather profit gods) will bestow upon us the blessing of a second season, because between the amazing characters, gorgeous aesthetic, and phenomenal soundtrack, this is a title I will be thinking back upon for many months to come (that is, until my next re-watch).
Indeed the best we can do is hope and support the series. Yes, the characters were fantastic for me, and like we've discussed the aesthetic just really clicks with me, it's extremely appealing to me.
I'm glad you touched on the soundtrack, as I really want to acknowledge how amazing of a job Yuki Kajiura did with the soundtrack as a whole. I loved it a lot and appreciated how much better it made scenes like the train chase scene this episode.

Duke Normandy didn't do anything the whole season. What was even his goal?

Series failed to establish the duke as a villain, we got filler episodes with backgrounds and motives about the girls, but ultimately the series didnt even have a proper villain, not to mention a proper ending.

I would argue our expactations was wrong, we expected some story thats why was so bad for us. While some wanted so "badass" super heroine lolies doiing cute spy stuff, they are the one who like this show

I'm anticipating a second season.

From halfway through the show, and I even left my thoughts on it on another episode discussion thread, it's always felt like a 2 cour show. So much of the episodic things felt like a setup to an overreaching greater story. Everything about the way it was playing out hinted at it. I was 100% convinced it was going to be 24 episodes before the total episode count was confirmed. Then I found out it wasn't and was kind of baffled.

Seeing how these last two episodes literally did a fucking 180 on the story, I'm still convinced we'll see a season 2. Two episodes to go and the introduce a new villain girl who's a commonwealth spy but takes orders from the military people only and is trying to stage a revolution. She escapes with no conclusion. Duke of Normandy was never killed, and he was totally ok with the events that transpired, and seemed to be happy that he got his hands on Princess' hat. Fake Charlotte gives fake Ange a speech on how they're both going to be together until she opens up her heart. The old Control group retakes command, and the girls start another mission.

Literally nothing about the ending felt even remotely conclusive for how a 12 episode anime original really should end. They way it ended felt like there will be an episode coming out next week. Christ, Isekai Shokudou had a more conclusive ending.

I'm kind of hoping they pull a Bubuki Buranki, where the first season ended and they made no announcement at the finale for the second season, and then halfway through the following season they announced it was split cour all along and the second half aired in the season after that. They had planned it all along and just withheld the announcement. Hoping to see something similar here.

I think the best chance of that is after the recap OVA airs. Once we get a refresher of the story, and in chronological order (which I'm actually looking forward too since everything pre-episode 9 was all out of order), they might drop an announcement since every one will have be refreshed on the story.

This late in the game I don't think they'd announce it for fall. They probably don't have any fall announcements because they're working on this to prep it for winter.

...At least, that's what I'd like to believe.

That was what I was implying xD. After looking at their history though it seems they only do 1-2 shows a year with two season apart for each, so it is possible s2 will air in spring or later (if ever).

What an interesting ending. I loved how they're just focusing on the characters than rushing to the main story. It felt like filler series tho; but still these kind of Original anime amuses me.

If there's going to be second season that would be nice. I would like to see more of this gang.

I'm concerned that this anime won't get a second season to release all of the UN-aired episodes let alone resolve the finale in a second season. I don't know too many people who were really into this show because of the Anime Strike Double Pay Wall, and though I liked how this went those jumbled episodes in a way that leaves half-of-the-series out of the released season still makes it feel like this anime was truncated beyond what was reasonable, and somehow still incomplete even with an ending.

I was really looking forward to watching this show but It did not turn out as good as I hoped for sadly. It took me about 3-4 eps until I could finally realize how I felt about it. At least they did not screw up the finale. I think the ending is alright and there is no need for a second season. This is probably my second least favorite anime of this season.
Loved some of the action scenes and OST, but the plot did not interest me at all.

edit: because the goddamn episode went too fast!

after all is said and done, have to give props for the london backdrop eyegasm. it's really much reason why I continued watching this.

I'd really love to see more of the two princess's camaraderie / anti-camaraderie and their struggles to remain together. not really a fan of the war / spy plot.

also the OST is out! time for some eargasm. I mean the cover speaks for itself already

Oh, for sure. I'm sure Dorothy, like the rest of the girls (save maybe for lil' Beatrice) could handle someone "sent after" them. I'm not so sure about this "shipping" of Dorothy and Beatrice, but they are definitely a great twosome to watch. It was pleasant to see the connections they established in the earlier episodes has carried through until the end.

Jotaro's Yngwie's character was a fleeting one, but I was really impressed by how "genuine" he felt. There could have been just any random, nameless soldier who was to follow Zelda's orders and execute the assassination attempt with no question, but instead we received someone who actually had a conscious and expressed an ability to not only reason but realize that the path he was following may not have been the right one. I hope Zelda eventually gets the kick in the teeth she deserves for killing my lad.

Among the few flaws of this conclusion would indeed have to be the pacing, but there's no surprise here. This series was built to be more than a single cour, and considering how everything had been progressing up to the conclusion of Episode 11, it didn't seem like the train should be stopping anytime soon. A two-parter would have most certainly helped to present an even more satisfying ending.

Thinking back upon the events of the last couple episodes a bit more, I'm not even sure if it is a "safe ending". There's a lot of unresolved plot lines that remain beyond just what was introduced late in the season. For one, the Duke of Normandy's motives and where he intended to go with his "plans" is pretty ambiguous at best. I can't really tell what he was trying to do because of how little of a direct focus we had on him. Of course, if there's a second season, this all is fine because we'll finally come to learn of his intentions, but with the ending we received it's a bit of a "???" on the series. This, among other things, leads me to have some reservations on how conclusive an ending this was, but it's certainly passable.

Just listening to the "Sound of Foggy London" album after finishing the series makes me miss it even more. I think the music of any given series is often one of its most overlooked characteristics. I'm now extremely interested in checking out some of Yuki Kajiura's other works, as she might find herself among other greats such as Yoko Kanno and Susumu Hirasawa on my favorite composer list.

That ended suddenly for me and the action was fine not good or great. I feel like this series missed something big to make it great, but nonetheless I liked the characters but animation was average and plot. The ending was insufficient for me and rushed like crazy but I will give it 6/10.

I don't know about season 2 though I doubt it will be soon anime like these usually take long to release or not at all, as for me I will see if i will plan to watch it but I don't promise.

Meh, there was so much potential for this anime, and in the end, it just went the safe route. I waited and waited for a twist to surprise me, an important character death, something to spice things up, but we just returned to the statu quo in hopes of a second season.

I hope we do get that second season, and they decide to take some risk with the script there. for this one, ill settle with a 7/10, i still liked the show a whole lot, but it was kinda pointless in the end.

I liked the show and I want to see the main plot resolved so we're really hoping for a second season here.

However, this show had good character developments and All of the main crew had been developed. I think that lowers the chance for a second season.

If there is a second season, it's gonna be real heavy on the plot and action, getting a lot of shit done in each episode. Which will be pretty fun to watch too

I got the answer from the guys on reddit, god bless their soul.

It reads "Turtledove" which is a type of bird. It's the symbol of true love. Turtledoves pair once and stay with their mate their whole lives. Back in the days (during the time in the settings) it was commonly used to call a lover.

Yes. Yuri confirmed <3. They don't just like each other as friends. They want to fuck each otehr and get married. Which is beautiful.

A lot of things also make more sense when you look at it from that angle. The "relationship" that they want to make "public" and the "invisible walls" charlotte kept mentioning, yea.. that includes legalising gay marriage too, I'm sure.

There still is hope for original anime projects after all. I expect there to be a sequel for sure, I hope I won't be disappointed. Funny enough, this was the best spy anime I've come across so far, despite it's somewhat unusual nature. Great writing, great setting, great atmosphere, great characters and a really cool soundtrack as well. The directing was also great. This show was fucking great, 9/10.

as a side note, I just found another super annoying user that thinks he's some kind of refined critic to block on the forums which is always a bonus, he probably has some trash tastes as well, judging by his favorite characters alone and he's one of those kinds of people that watch something even if they consider it a waste of time or find it un-enjoyable or mediocre and it seems to be the case with everything he watches which is quite problematic, why even bother, just go to a different medium if you hate every anime, I'm afraid to know what impossible standards you have @Swim_Swim

So....spend 10 episodes on building background on characters to set them up in their respective roles, only to introduce a new villian with 2 eps left and do nothing with the other villian you were building up but have the new villian accomplish more in an incredibly short amount of time than the villian you built up.

This show, living up to the 80/20 rule of original anime, 80% of them being dumpster fires and 20% being complete surprises.

-hey what's with all these chronological episodes right in a row
-the real princess is the fake princess
-also seems zelda was lying about not knowing that ange was actually the princess
-oh i didn't realize how harshly princess's parting words to ange on the airship reflected their first meeting, jesus
-so princess left ange a makeshift bomb kit. i will admit i did not see her drop that bag last episode
-the guards were pretty bad in the earlier episodes but how they're actually really bad
-also what was the purpose of the valve ange closed/opened in the hallway by the parachutes
-wait did ange detonate the ball of cavorite she usually carries around to make that fire
-oh shit is the temple crashing scene gonna be a principal reunion
-ange's a fuckin monster
-dang nice save dorothy
-oh shit does that mean the guy who ange's ambush target was talking to was beatrice the entire time?
-beatrice and her loud mouth
-to be honest i didn't recognize that place as the school until beatrice burst in
-either the tea or the scones have to be fuckin poisoned
-that gate scene is what i watch this show for, and for once, it seems like the guards were competent enough to report it up the chain of command
-did princess just bait yngwie or whatever to show her where the key was located
-oh she did, but she got caught, rip
-man these gunners suck
-chise's a fuckin babe
-yngwie has a pretty weak will if he's swayed by princess like that
-and he's fuckin dead
-it's been 24 cases and beatrice still is so surprised by all the shit her teammates pull
-kinda interesting how ange's talking in her higher pitched voice when apologizing to princess
-the whole "tear down the wall around your heart" line was pretty cute
-oh cool l's back, and i suspect his rescue story would be pretty interesting

Unfortunately the final episode of the show is a lot more standard than the first episode was, but it was still pretty enjoyable in a conventional sense. I always was a fan of the thing where the gang gets back together in the finale. Also there was a ton of action sequences t in this episode, and aside from that one sequence where the train gunners missed literally every shot on Dorothy and friends, they were all pretty nice.

In addition to the overt action scenes, this episode also had some pretty neat, more subdued spy segments which I think became one of the show's main selling points as it went on. The best one was probably Princess intentionally getting Yngwie to reveal the location of the demolition key, but she ended up getting caught by Zelda in the end. Stuff like this was my favorite kind of moments of the show in general, the kind of stuff that is hinted at ahead of time to the extent that you can piece together what is about to happen before it actually does. Despite this, I don't think you needed to pay attention to the details of the episode as much as you needed to in the first two episodes, which is kind of disappointing.

As for the execution of the plot of this episode, it definitely delivered on the setup that happened last episode, with everyone in Principal reuniting and stopping the Queen's assassination. Immediately after I watched the episode, I thought that they left a lot of loose ends to pick up from, but after thinking about it, I realized they pretty much implicitly tied up most things. The entire reason the general dude commandeered control of Control was to pin the blame of the Queen's assassination on the acting princess (whether it was Ange or Princess) as a scapegoat, and with Princess successfully getting away from them, they could no longer do that.

However, I'm not so sure about the aftermath of stuff like Yngwie's death or like, L's return to Control. There is no precedent within the show to reliably say what would happen next in regards to those two developments, and so they are pretty much left hanging. Then again, the anachronic order of the anime didn't really leave room for aftermath, with stuff like Dorothy's dad's death being pretty much swept under the rug after it happened due to the out-of-order-ness of the episodes.

TL;DR: This episode is pretty characteristic of the rest of the show, with a smattering of action and espionage, although it couldn't quite live up to my expectations after the first two episodes. It also served as a pretty conclusive ending to the Queen's assassination plot, but some plot threads were left hanging.

this ending was too colored for the problems that they have just confronted (and that are still pending to be solved).

Hm... I would have enjoyed more if there weren't cases missing and if the episodes weren't out of chronological order (though I started to watch in chronological order after episode 03)

Still, an enjoyable anime. Would have liked to see more Chise in action, it's a shame that they always left her aside. She is too good for the roles they settled to her.

7/10

Btw, calm down people, at least for what have been shown to us, they are FRIENDS. Calm down your yuri vibes in seeing yuri in anything. Let's just commemorate when it REALLY happen. Hehe ^^

"boohoo, let's abolish borders and all sing kumbaya!"
It seems even Japan is being corrupted by this kind of propganda.

So how did Zelda know Ange was the real princess? Just... how many people know this? Or did she know at all? I'm confused.

I hope there's a season 2 so I get to see black girl with white lips die a painful death.

I don't watch as much anime as before...

This season finale was a bit predictable in some situations and a bit light on certain topics, but the finale had its dose of exciting moments. as it seems, Zelda's character hides many secrets and even some connection with the Princess, I hope the second season, not too late to come. I want to know as soon as you close the story.

For now my vote is 7/10.

I wanted this series and the finale to be a bit stronger. The ending really needed one more twist. The series was still really good but lost a bit of steam as the show went on. Still, I really love these characters and am crossing my fingers for a season 2.

I hoped for a much stronger finale. Don't get me wrong, it was good, and I knew that it probably wouldn't be a full conclusion, but we didn't get to know too much about what will happen know that the plot failed :/ It was a bit abrupt.

Anyway, 8/10 for the whole show. I liked it a lot, but it had some weaker filler episodes, which they could have used for a longer and better plot/ending. I hope that we will have a 2nd season in the future.

It is very good anime series about spies, but its ending is too open. It really needs season 2 as its original :/
