Nice episode.
Good job Gion, you did great. Gotta love this boy's determination.

They'll be playing against a bunch of high school girls in bikinis who utilize their butt and boobs to tackle?

Convincing enough even this episode, I would like the blond, immediately solve his problems and put on track like everyone else. Certain moments in the narrative were really engaging as the clash between Sekizan and Gion. I hope that the sessions on the Rugby can be longer and more detailed.

Fun rugby play. Sekizan is awesome and I'm going to ignore his lame-as-fuck hairstyle for the rest of the series.

New characters introduced and lots of blondes. I'm guessing Miyuki was the one who got injured in a game with Iwashimizu

As a rugby player myself I can appreciate the hardships all the characters will and have gone through this also makes it extremely enjoyable to watch, Also nly dump-tackling is illegal so Gion's ankle tackles was completely fine :) also a side note low tackles work in real life too even against much bigger opponents

That Ebumi guy at the end seems like such obvious reference to Hiruma in Eyeshield 21, got the "YA-HA!", the temper, the looks.. I mean, C'mon? He's even playing basically the same sport ;)

Ahh, I don't know who it really is, but the blue haired guy at the end makes me think of shin, and if it really is one of the strongest schools as these comments implies, the parallells are insane ;)

I want to like this anime but the character design is killing me.

This. The show is otherwise watchable, but the fucking dude with horns for hair, Ebumi as a knock-off Hiruma with hair-wings, the cap with toilet paper strips in his hair and a bunch of guys suffering from Down's syndrome make it kind of hard to cheer for these guys.
uh oh!

This episode didn't feel off like most the former. I liked it a lot. The turtle is really a pain like other propedeutical exercises, but it's really worth it. What's more, Kenji-kun looks like an agressive motivated jerk, but he's very attentive: despite the strain of the exercise, he could tell the difference in sound of a good tackle vs a bad one, as well as the fact that a good tackles is done with your back straight.

The only thing, I think it took to much for him to realise that you got to tackle below the knee. I think that is common sense, since it's easier to disrupt the balance of someone/something this way. Tackling low, as highlighted from other rugby supporters and former players, it's not only legitimate, but also preferred.

I'm feeling really excited for the game next episode. I hope Sumiaki-kun manages to sort his issues out.

Interesting that Crunhyroll translated "Stand-off" to "Fly-half". Looks like they got someone that knows Rugby to translate/TLC for the series. That's good to know. I also now know what the Japanese call Fly-halves.

Here in Australia, we call them Fly-halves but in other parts of the world, they're called Stand-offs, First-five, Five-eighths (rarely) or outhalf. Same goes for Scrum-half, we call them that here but it's also known as halfback elsewhere.

I was also a bit confused when the manager was explaining positions to Gion, I don't know anyone that uses the terms left centre and right centre. Probably just a Japan-ism. Here's what we use in Australia.

Forwards:

Front row: Loosehead Prop, Hooker and Tighthead Prop.
Second Row: Left Lock and Right Lock.
Back Row/Loose Forwards: Blindside Flanker, Openside Flanker and Number 8.

These groupings are related to how the scrum is packed. There's also one more grouping in the forwards.

Tight-five: Front row and Second row.

Backs:

Halves: Scrum-half and Fly-half.
Centres: Inside Centre and Outside Centre.
Outside Backs: Left Wing, Right Wing and Fullback.

There's also one more grouping in the backs.

Three-quarters: Centres and Wingers.

Anyway, Miyuki is in this other team. Someone called it in the episode one thread, looks like they were right.

Thanks for the terminology, mate. I'm not from a English-speaking country and didn't know about all that.

First of all: the OST is amazing. Love the rocktheme. Tackels were also very reallistic. The tackle Gion did on Sekizan is allowed in rugby, so they did that right :D. Can't wait for the match against Keijo

Yes, the OST is amazing :)
