----------------------------------------
So we got more background storytelling about Keith and even Heinz..

Also, Hayate finally talks to Mikumo? Took almost 22 episodes! Glad to see the pacing pick up more with more action. I liked the song Walkure performed this episode in particular with a bit of Messer memory. Freyja also needed that wake up call from Mikumo and Hayate.

Pretty good episode. Mikumo, Frejya, Mirage, and Hayate makes a good team.
RIP Cassim. He had death flags so it was obvious.

That battle was awesome, I didn't expect for Cassim to just die peacefully in the cockpit (he wasn't even shot down, he crash landed his Valkyrie to die).

It will suck if Mikumo won though, there just isn't enough development between her and Hayate.

It was pretty interesting episode.
Freyja needed a slap from Mikumo to wake up indeed. Just don't understand why Cassim this episode desperately enough to burn his life against Hayate. Maybe related with his father's past.

Better, more action oriented than the last couple of episodes, but still a bit flat IMO. Been hearing the second half of Delta was made on the fly, originally the plan was one cour and a film. Explains a lot.

So many things to talk about in this episode... For the 'wings' scene, I think that it makes sense since Mirage said that she will protect the both of them, and she did it in this episode. Plus, they put that in epi 22 instead of epi 26, so hopefully by the end of the series Hayate can be mre conclusive about his feelings... 😂

And Cassim rest well... He will be missed... 😢 He was one of the more reasonable Windermereans, I would have really liked him to last a bit more in the story. My thought is that Cassim chose to die as a soldier who has given his all on the battlefield instead of living in fear from when he might die from aging.

Heartache that slap on Freyja's face, but it did help Freyja to gain her resolution back, so good job Mikumo! And woohoo new song, so now all the songs on the 2nd album is out! I wonder if they will be able to squeeze out a couple of new songs before the finale. More Freyja solos please!

Next episode seems like it will be interesting, and Freyja's Little Red Riding Hood clothes is back! 😁

I don't think Mikumo can be counted as a love interest though. :) They just spoke a couple of lines in this episode. Basically saying that they are similar in the sense that Mikumo can only sing while Hayate can only fly. The triangle between Hayate, Freyja and Mirage is still growing strong!

Mikumo is not part of the love triangle, i may not understand the raw that well but between Hayate & Mikumo it's just small talk about how alot of things have happened, followed by Mikumo asking Hayate why her singing does not affect him unlike Freyja, after that is talk about who is more scary. No where is there that suggest Mikumo even has feelings at all for Hayate & Triangle was confirmed when Hayate snapped out of his berserk.

It's great we got a new song, not sure what to think about Freyja magically coming back to normal or Cassim being super aggressive & his death now bring into a question, which has bothered me which is in the opening where Keith is walking with his hood up which proceeds to show a bunch of characters with death flags? What are Arad, Chuck, Ernest & Berger have connection with Keith probably death flags.

We've got 4 episode left and no Lady M info or Hayate dad info, feels like Macross delta should've been longer than 26 episodes.

My feelings as well. I thought that they will take back Ragna first and resolve loose threads at Winderemere in a movie, but it seems like they will be resolving everything in the TV series itself...

I'm still hoping for a movie though. Even a remake will be nice.

What's up with some saying Mikumo and Hayate in some triangle? Why even watch raws not knowing what the dialogue was about...

Hayate and Mikumo having a scene together and just regularly talking was some what new. The interaction was interesting. Mirage with some more air time and involvement this episode to join last episode. That's nice to see. Man, Freyja getting slapped like that just having watched Love Live Sunshine ep 8 both surprised me. She needed it bad.

Freyja seeing Cassim's death and the way she looked got me wondering all over again about her own short life span. Next week Freyja and Mirage in a scene together? Interesting.

People have been saying Hayate & Mikumo for a long time, but it's just a dream. For the longest time the whole point of Mikumo's character appear aloof, detached and mysterious. Her developing feelings for Hayate would go against the one thing know about her: she doesn't care about anything but singing. She barely interacts with anyone and when she does, it's either duty or curiosity. The distant, scientific kind of curiosity. Giving them more screentime together wouldn't change anything. Romance kind of love isn't really the importance of her character.. In fact, I'm kind of glad that she is a main character and NOT in the triangle.

Ahhh and as much as I have been enjoying Delta to a ridiculous amount (seriously, I made ringtones) I'm really wishing things begin to pick up pace and things go off with a bang--hopefully literally (and you can take that any way you want). I'm patient but there has been a LOT of setup, very little action and too few answers. I want to be on the edge of my seat again waiting desperately each week for another episode..

Because even fi it has no development it is better than the alternatives? At least Mikumo has some semblance of identity and conflict that cant be summed up in half a sentence.

Freya is pretty much Ranka on Prozac(which means she is constantly grating on nerves and hey at least Ranka had a story instead of just being on prozac in 99% of her scenes and being on withdrawals on the rest 1%) and Mirage is very under-developed so far(which is sad since her personality and backstory holds a lot of promise).

Only 4 episodes left and I'm really disappointed with how the love triangle is handled in this series. Way too much focus on the supporting cast instead of our main trio, still feels like I barely know Mirage which just makes me sad.

Let's face it... this episode had more MirageHayate development than the entire series until now.

Secondly, I just hate how stupid Freyja has become. She's never been the best character ever, but the annoying and always worried way of behaving is so frustrating for me as a watcher.

RIP, Cassim. You were the best ever Aerial Knight.

*not coherent in the next paragraph*

I AM CRYING EVERY SINGLE F**KING TIME THEY BRING MESSER UP!!!! LIKE WTFFFF..... BESIDES, JUST MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN... I AM TRYING TO SHIP KANAME AND ARAD BECAUSE THEY ARE APPARENTLY SOMETHING... BUT EACH TIME I TRY TO DO THAT, THEY BANG A MESSER THING ON THE SCREEN AND I ONLY START CRYING.... LIKE GOD.... I HAVEN'T MOVED ON FROM THAT AND IT'S JUST A CHARACTER IN AN ANIME.... EVEN IF IT WAS SO SAD AND MESSER X KANAME X ARAD ARE/WERE SO MUCH MORE DEVELOPED IN THREE EPISODES THAN HAYATE X FREYJA X MIRAGE IN 22.... AND IT'S STILL A TRIANGLE 12 EPISODES AFTER MESSER DIED.... WTF.....

As for your second paragraph, dude, seriously, enough of your bias-ism. You letting it seep out, blame Shoji for dropping the ball on Mirage's backstory with only 5/6 episodes to go. Also, Freyja and Ranka are nothing alike, that charade you got going from that comment ain't gonna work.

You presented a surprise that people would expect an out of nowhere romance like that and I explained why at this point it is far preferable option no worse than the rest of under developed triangle.

Also, Freyja and Ranka are nothing alike, that charade you got going from that comment ain't gonna work.

An annoying always happy loli who wants to be the best idol ever and ends up most of the show doing moe stuff.
The differences between them were that DogHair Ranka actually had a storyline beyond that and personality beyond that(even if she was still annoying).

The episode was ok. I didn't expected much out of it and was happy. The high tech body glove, bra + rocket skirt explained how Walkure was able to change costume on the fly. That was pretty interesting.

The bitch slap was hilarious.
The Battroid hug was LOL but from a story standpoint, it was obvious.

Cassim's death is even more meaningful than Messer which somehow proves the point that Messer's character is underdeveloped with the screen he got? Now, I feel bad for him. XD

Time to see how they end this with 4 episodes left and finally then, I can write a review.

Mikuno and Hayate have a lot of thing in common (their brief conversation... key word brief make sure to point that out {they risk their lives together and you are going to tell me that this is their first conversation, come on!) it would have been more interesting to see more interactions between comrades (Military personnel, Pilots & Walküre)… If you think about the title and practically the importance of Mikuno (Protoculture), Freyja (Wind song), Mirage (Macross royalty) you would think that there was going to be a triangle (Delta) in the girls in love department tying to the Delta formation (Formation during flight) and the Delta waves (Brain) that is why 26 episodes seemed to me a little bit stingy for the caliber of a franchise like Macross and more so if they were planning on concentrate in explaining both sides (this is evident because they dedicated the vast majority of episodes to the Windemerean side leaving little room… let me rephrase that almost a none existence development in the love department (a weak one if I said so for the main characters {Heck the supporting cast also suffered from this. Kaname, Messer, Arad and Chuck's sister went unexplored and even with one or two of them dead there is still no progress}) and little room for character development and story development (Who Lady M is? what is the deal with NUNS? (the corrupt ones), What is the back story of Hayate's dad? and many more questions)... that is why it would have benefited if this was 50 episodes so all the characters have a moment to shine but that is just me.

Freyja & Hayate getting control over their emotions in the same chapter felt underwhelming I would love to see both or one of them struggle more with the situation…

Is the White Knight having a change of mind now?!

@YK97

I agree with you with the part... they wasted Messer for drama but the thing with Messer is... He... alive would have created more drama and that is one of my gripe let me explain myself: 1. More head bumps with Hayate and more scolding to Mirage 2. You could have built a far better drama exploring Kaname feeling toward him (she likes him as a brother or is there more to her feelings toward him) also how commander Mölders got to care for him that was never explored in details so when he died you got a less impact full moment (when this was supposed to be the big catapult for more than one character to step up their game) also in the first opening you can see Chuck's sister (forgot her name) watching him (Messer) from afar and when he died she cried for him but they (studio & creators) never explore that whats up with that?!

Now shifting my focus with Eberhart. Him questioning his superior was good, the part with him showing his chivalry with the enemy (Hayate & Freyja) was good… But if they wanted his dead to be memorable… in my opinion he should have more inter action with his son and I’m not talking about him seeing a gif of his child… I’m talking interacting with his son via live video, phone call or maybe a letter giving us the viewers a more sense of loss via a deeper bond (a parent who is not going to see his son anymore, etc.) than what we get here. The only part that I like was him avoiding to crash in the trees because it would mean damaging the trees thus damaging future harvest and that ties with his roots as a farmer…

You can get away with this if this was another title/franchise but Macrosss is a title that is connected to the emotion spectrum that is why I'm a little harsher in judgment to this franchise...

I actually quite like and agree with the points you pointed out. I think Messer could have quite a lot of potential. Hear me out:

If they could somehow wire up Hayate "love" of flying (which by now is sorta hanging by his mouth without any significant deep meaning) to Messer's love of flying. We could actually see Hayate maturing as he takes tips of him for flying, develop his own style and have Messer acknowledge him as a pilot or maybe soften up and take him as an apprentice of some sort.

They never fully explain Chuck's sister relationship and since Messer is dead, they decide to wash her out too. Wow...

That's why during the entirety of the series. I'm sorta questioning the motive of Kawamori of creating Delta. It's like he was full of idea but the budget stop him from doing so? So, instead, we got a slimmed out version to appeal more of the current anime fanbase or he felt the need to milk out Macross since his experimentation with AKB0048?

I'm puzzled.

And then if you have to kill him (story purpose) his death would be more meaningful not only giving Hayate a purpose but also making him grow like a man (loss of a possible Big-bro/friend) and as a pilot (loss of his senpai/wing man in his watch)…

Since I began to understand how anime works I always pay attention to OP because they always told wat is going to happen... Having said that when I watched the OP I thought that Chuck's sister was going to be his love interest... but to my surprise they never spend time in the establishing that and when the episode came (when he revealed his admiration/Love to Kaname) I was thinking damn it would have been more interesting establishing a love triangle between all of them… then in the next episode he was a gonner…

Hey let’s be honest we/I understand that this is a business and milking Macross (if you can say that because we have to wait a couple of years/decades to have a new installation) is not mindboggling the merchandise is a big pull factor (toys, games, DVD/Blue ray, CD, etc.) also taking in consideration that another of my favorite franchise do the same (Gundam) the problem here with Macross is the execution I don’t want to keep beating a dead horse but this needed to be a 50 episode anime to accommodate the scrip/story (this installation is covering the Protoculture theme {It is a Big enigma, this is the start of the Macross saga we are talking about}) plus you need a good of chunk of episode to cover both sides of the conflict (character development) and then you need to have the other remaining % of the episodes deal with the love & music part of the show…

The thing is that these problems are not exclusive to this anime. This problem is an industry problem (Milking a series, working with a low budget = crappy animation, rushed stories, shorter episodes… and Yada, yada, yada {I’m not saying Macross Delta is suffering of all of this problems}) the anime industry need to change (and that is a conversation for another day) the way they do business because in my opinion a great chunk of IP are suffering from those type of problem…

Nice the triplet is supporting each other, one of those lolzy two wings for mc route.
Cassim was a support that sorta connected Freyja to homeland & apples but otherwise wasn't very plot important.

Are they Repeating the frontier trickery/mistake?
In frontier, the enemy's connection with the galaxy forces were never directly explained, the movie actually changed a lot of the settings the tv series seem to suggest. People think it would have season 2 toward the end of frontier given the many open end plotlines. Delta it is already a lot better in explaining things happened from both side, but, with four episodes left, which is about 1.5 hour, they will have to squeeze a lot out of them.
I assume they will follow the frontier series, make two movies with existing clip and change things, get a third movie with new material as final ending.
I really Like the fan service done this episode, which explains things lol

Are they Repeating the frontier trickery/mistake?
In frontier, the enemy's connection with the galaxy forces were never directly explained, the movie actually changed a lot of the settings the tv series seem to suggest. I'm not sure about the movie part since the original run was like 13ish episode + a movie.

If they make a movie, they could maybe patch up the problems they are facing.

It is a serious problem of the whole entertainment business, one primary issue is economy of Japan, then the social issue of lack of birth and immigrant (which means fewer new audience and must milk existing fans), then there is the licensing mess for Macross restrict it from going world wide like gundam is now doing.

The reason bandai afford to make the recognG and bleed with worst tv series rating in gundam history that is iron blood (52 episodes which I recon can shorten by ten lol), was because Japanese government gave bandai near zero interest loans as form of supporting culture and toy production.

Gone were the days where producer and directors can make long series close to their original creative vision, or try to make new series. However, I put the blame squarely on economy of Japan, then to extend the world, insider investors and banks gets easy money printed out of thin air and must turn them in to more money by well over 10% fast, or else it be inflated / devalued in no time, any long term investment can't yield such as an animate project will be sidelined fast... Invest in house, stock are much more attractive... (Bandai has gov funds to bleed, hence it can afford new shows) U be stupid to make real things and create new shows.
So by the end, what is destroying the animate/world? it is the economy stupid...

@Roy_Focker

LOL, I agree wholeheartedly. Gundam Try Fighters is trying to milk young folks like pokemon XD. (Gundam Unicorn is a decent one these days.)

I think Delta might have a smaller budget than Frontier. Just a thought because it doesn't seem as grand of a scale compared to it and we only have few 3d models compared IDK how much from Frontier.

I think they cutback much of the Valkyrie time for the idol concert part which... I don't know what to say... As a mecha fan, I'm just like "why you do this..." but I think it can be justify by more screentime and moe for Walkure

Hate to break it to you but Bandai is making a lot of the Macross kits. ( With Hasegawa doing some of them.)

As a whole, 2016 has been a shit time for economy. I had to see Bionicle G2 go away due to that. (Bad sales+low budget= they had to make a crap ending for it. It sucks. But the toys were awesome.)

I don't know why but Brexit became a reality joke.

With Japanese gouv, eum... MORE MONEY FOR THE ARMY 'CUZ WE'RE NOT SCARE OF CHINAAAAA or PROVE WE'RE STRONG ONCE AGAIN WITH USA BACKING UUUUSSSS....

I'm probably like: "Why you do this Japan?" We don't need war between us. I don't hate the innocent but I hate your uppermanagement who manage to enslave the whole Asia during WW2. I don't get what kind of weed that prime minister is smoking. Throw that money you spend on the army back to the people and they'll be more than happy.

But does Japan have xenophobia towards Gaijin? I heard that somewhere. And about the birth rate... Seeing that the houses in Japan are quite small and the economy is not going well+ beauty standards there: silm is beautiful = why more than 1 child?

P.S.: I'm a Chinese, born in China and lived there before moving to Canada for studying.

Hayahaya still can't control the power Frefre is giving to him.

You presented a surprise that people would expect an out of nowhere romance like that and I explained why at this point it is far preferable option no worse than the rest of under developed triangle.

You reading far into what isn't there. My surprise is that people watched it RAW no subtitles and divulged that there was something between Hayate and Mikumo not knowing what the dialogue was about i.e. their Japanese knowledge wasn't enough to understand the exchange proceeding to guesstimate what may have been said. Further, adding that there has been no logical deduction to be made between them towards a relationship other then co-workers or/and friends. It's already bad enough between Hayate and Freyja and more so with Hayate and Mirage.

Once again VF31Siegfried understood what I was talking about. He/She even added more to it about a dream match among Mikumo fans that filled the gaps on why I wrote my comment despite having no such development past 22 episodes.

An annoying always happy loli who wants to be the best idol ever and ends up most of the show doing moe stuff.
The differences between them were that DogHair Ranka actually had a storyline beyond that and personality beyond that(even if she was still annoying).

Noticed that Mirage's Valkyrie glowed for a brief moment. It's almost similar to the light of the Walkure when they sing. Wonder if this will be relevant later on.

Woah, talk about bullshit power ups and sudden Var immunity based on pure "I'll never lose control ever again!!!" will power.....

Almost as bad as that horrible motivational talk that wouldn't convince anyone that they should get over their hump because "Let me slap you whilst singing and you'll suddenly believe in yourself really works"....

Oh and should I even mention that "shit the enemy actually waited until everything was fine and dandy before we resumed our duel" that happens in real life... suuuure....

Seriously bad writing all over the place. All those bullshit moments. Shame...

Well, I think they are rushing to pack everything up within the 26 episode limit. I agree, bad writing.
