So Bleach sales already decline even before the anime ended.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Some pretty interesting comments in there as well.

It's pretty clear that the OP of the post isn't talking how Bleach isn't popular or that it is doing horrible but that it isn't as big as some people claim it to be, which is true. All in all it's a pretty informative read, tnx for posting it.

That's kind of weird, since when it comes to WSJ based video games, Bleach usually gets a "top" spot with Naruto, OP and DB. Wonder why they do that with that declining sale of Bleach.

Not sure if serious.

Even my gfs boyfriend who only knows what DBZ and Pokemon is knows what Bleach is.

Saying bleach isn't popular is dumb.

Bleach was popular but now it is not which means no really talk about it anymore just like how people stop talking about One Punch Man even though they were going crazy about everywhere.

I think Bleach being popular is more west thing since there are looooot more things that are more popular in Japan.

I kinda have a feeling that most ppl don't even bother with reading what was posted... The author of the post clearly says that he doesn't think Bleach isn't popular but that it isn't as BIG as some ppl claim it to be... and he states the reason why in his post which is pretty informative.

Really tho, there are a lot of occasion when insiders talk about Shonen Jump ranking and most of them already said it's not supposed to be taken too seriously.

Based Eiichiro Oda said:
Oda himself adressed this issue in a SBS of volume 47 (translation by viz)

D(reader): Oda! My older brohter ells me that the comics in Jump magazine run in the order of their popularity. Is that true?! (by Yasumo)

O(Oda): That's a good question from a Jump reader. I get these questions quite often actually that's not exactly how it works: The Jump publication's debuty editor-in-chief chosses the order every week... But of course, the popular ones do have a tendency to run in the front. That vice editor-on-chief promotes certain comics on certain weeks depending on the mood. To be spedific, the order is inteded to "maximize the enjoyment of the reading public". But it's up to you to read in whatever order you want.

It's just another marketing tactic by Jump in order to push a certain series.

If anything, it's only proves just how popular Bleach is because despite the low ranking it has, meaning that it is not favored by the editorial management, it still manage to sells so well even better than most of their line-up.

Good grief. Showing a chart and all of a sudden you can twist any opinion.

I also like how they didn't present any new data, but hey it's in a chart. And the phrase is dumb and inaccurate as shit. Bleach is not as popular it used to be, but the title implies it was never majorly popular to being with, which is false.

1. Maybe they stopped advertising it because the sales started to drop?

2. That's not really true tho, to link an in depth look at anime ratings.

1. hinomaru zumou which only sells 30K gets more ads than bleach.

2. the producer said so and you're overrating the rankings, even naruto, precure and pokemon get around 1 to 2% ratings these days and they haven't been cancelled.
Shuiesha ended bleach for no good reason, must be legal issues.

1. The series is not that old, what maybe 2 years now? and is really consistent with the rankings, I'm not surprised it's beeing pushed by Jump to try boost up the sales.

2. Don't those 3 shows have huge merchandise lines? don't know much about Precure but Pokemon shouldn't even be worth mentioning, if Pokemon dropped to 0 ratings it would still not be canceled as it's a massive franchise and the anime is there to basically promote the game and all it's merchandise and Naruto is huge as well. Could you link me a source for what you claim the producer said?

1. doesn't matter if it's old, thepoint is volume sales don't matter much and the magazine rankings are important but bleach got less ads while it still had good and decent rankings.

2. TV Tokyo overseas department producer.

1. Bleach was promoted the same way when it started out, no? I'm not really buying that there is some deep conspiracy where Jump is sabotaging Bleach by cuting off the advertisement as it seems silly for buisness, if it could make them even more money it seems pretty stupid for them to basically go and "kill it" so to say.

2. I mean if you wanna take this guys tweet as a fact over actual TV ratings, ok I guess?

9 is still okay and that graph makes it look worse than it is, since the drop is because the fullbring arc averaged a 7 or so right after the 3 of the arrancar arc.
2 years after the anime ended is when it started to go into bad rankings.

Bleach was once very popular = almost on same level as Naruto's popularity back then, hence it belong to what people called the "big 3"

But after the HM arc. The story started to go downhill, Ichigo keep transforming. He was a human at first, then became half human and Shinigami, next he became hollow, next arc he is different again. Just what is he really?
That's how Bleach lose it's popularity. It was good at first but half got ruined.

I wouldn't call it piece of garbage t though. People who call something they once enjoy, they once got hooked to, a garbage are big piece of sh!t. That's stupid, if you didn't liked it from the beginning that will make sense. But if you enjoyed it once then call it garbage later (especially just because of shipping) then, you're nothing but a hypocrite piece of shit.

You're misunderstanding things. 3 million sales a year is still hugely popular and certainly more popular than many other Jump series. Saying Bleach wasn't incredibly popular throughout it's entire run would be a lie.

While I do think that it's all subjective but ofc it can. Obligatory "Justin Bieber is popular but bad" and "Twilight is popular but bad" are really good examples.

People don't understand how thing really work. In a business hard is finding clients, in this case readers, after finding faithful clients is turns really hard to loose them. And how much faithful they are harder it is for them to go away.

What does that mean for Bleach? Its franchise state isn't just described by the number of sales, but where it was and where its going. Are its faithful readers leaving, are they staying, is it getting new faithful readers, is it coming from a boost in popularity where most readers weren't faithful ones, is declining, ...?
A little example, a series that sold 100k and went to 300k and the tendency is to increase, is different than a series that sold 1 Million and now its selling 300k and the tendency is to decrease.

The study of the series is what is more important. And is a complex thing, not something simple as just looking at the numbers.

Is true that Bleach lastest volumes are averaging 525k in 1 year and a print of 660k, that is indeed really good. If things were just that it would be great, but unfortunately there is a lot more story to that.
660k print and 525k average sales is not the series peak, nor the stable point. That is the problem! The series at a given point was able to peak at a print of 1.33 Millions, and it stabled for around 17 volumes(around 3-3.5 years), and when Oricon started releasing sales data selling around 800k close to 900k per volume.
And the series tendency though is got more stable later, was to keep decreasing.

Basically Bleach was showing that was a series that its heyday was long gone and right now is in the degenerative phase.
Also as a franchise it was the same thing. If it was only in terms of volume, maybe it could be dealt with, but in the Anime the producers(Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo) decided that it was better to earn the franchise money without producing anything new for it, in Merchandise it decreased to a point where it got away of the top 100 character Merchandise, in the Magazine went to the last positions of it.
So obviously the series wasn't/isn't doing great, but just surviving of its past glory.

i think the problem is it's not as successful it once was-- it's declined, and as it's seen by foreign viewers - because it's one of the three most popular anime worldwide but no so much in Japan(anymore).

That is such a great video. Made me feel a little bit sad for Kubo.
Jump should just really let their mangaka to what they want in their work, end it when they want, if it doesn't sell well then at least give a time limit for the mangaka to end his manga but not that short
