maybe it will be having a characterization for that fat guy ?
either way i can't wait to see it XD

Matthew has a lot of characterization, development, and is really cool but most of that is in volume 4,5,6 so since the anime will end with volume 3 we won't see that, I'm afraid. Although if we get a second season or a split cour, then Matthew will be second season's best character by far. The dude is awesome, that's all.

when you said it like that, now i want another season so badly xD
i'm hoping for a second season!!!

So... what happened to volume 1 ending?
Because from the preview ep6 seems to be going full speed into volume 2.

Yeah, I'm expecting that too, but Volume 1 ending is pheraps the most important scene in the entire series plot-wise. It gives Ikta an objective and drive for the following volumes.
Cutting it out would be beyond madness.

Several peoples have been assuming that they plan to move it at the end of the anime (13th episode)

At this point It's the most likely approach for this adaptation.

It's still a bad move: it broke the climax of vol1 ending, it's pushing back the main plot point (and plot strenght) and it is going to weaken a lot Chamille's character for the whole season.
Even if they manage to pull it right there is a good chance that anime viewers are going to stay stuck with Chamille's first impression until the end of the series, all while being confused about the point of the series and why the author picked imperial officiers as main characters.

I'd pick proper Vol1 ending adaptation with a 1:1 full talk, over ep5 flashback any day of the week.

I thought this was pretty good, but one thing bugged me throughout the episode.

Why the fuck did those two think it was a good idea to leave two young children alone in a cabin in the woods overnight? Did they get eaten by the wolves? Am I missing something here?

damn the poor wolves. Why were they so stupid... Should have left after the first casualty. Instead they lost the whole pack and didn't get much food. On top the alpha male was was wounded heavily, too :(

Pretty interesting episode. Although the end was kinda weird. At least could have explained why the guy was imprisoned and/or Ikta and his mother disappeared...

his last cub was about to die due to lack of food, so he didn't pull out after the first fight.

That backstory was really interesting and enjoyable to watch. I'm impressed that Ikta and Yatori somehow managed to beat those wolves. Not bad. 5/5

This episode really drives home the idea that Ikta and Yatori are more brother & sister than potential lovers. I understand why people would want to ship them since they suit each other so damn well, but I'm perfectly happy with the way their relationship is going and have no qualms if they remain besties. It's extremely rare to have fleshed out platonic relationships like this in anime and it would be a shame if romance was shoe horned in just for the satisfaction of shippers.

Yatori is a good "knight", she started pretty early.
The kids were kinda smart to deal with the wolves like that.

Nice backstory there. They both share great chemistry and I'm glad it's not going for a romantic route. Good to see loli(?) Yatori kicks some ass.

RIKIYA!!!
Ikta's dad.
Keiji!!!
Injured? You also killed him.
Ikta's okaasan.
A wolf.
Dat ending.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

Was nice seeing Ikta and Yatori's backstories explored.

Ikta was one cute shota. I just want to give him a hug. <3

Seeing the two work together to defeat the wolves was beautiful. Ikta and Yatori have great chemistry.

Even if they were trying to kill them, I still felt bad for the wolves. They were just hungry. :(

Poor Ikta lost his parents at such a young age. I wonder how his mom died.

Good episode. I'm wondering where the story is going to go from here. 8/10

Wowww, this for me was the best episode so far, because I feel like they have explained a lot of things this episode, and we got to understand both Yatori and Ikta better.
Not only that, WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE THEIR BACKSTORY! And honestly, it was so cute! Their friendship is amazing, and they are the perfect combo.
We finally get to see that Yatori wanting to be a soldier is nothing more than an obligation to her, made by her family, since her family members seem to be high ranking soldiers. But in reality, just like Ikta points it out, she doesn't like this world of violence. This gives even more meaning to her breakdown last episode.
We can also see a bit more of Ikta's childhood, and how his life was before his dad was arrested, and he seemed to be such a happy child that just loved science. Talking about science, I noticed that this anime really uses this word a lot, and most of the characters don't know about it, which makes me believe that science must be something that as been censored in that country, probably because it would start explaining a lot of things that the emperor doesn't want to be explained.
Either way, Ikta's dad is really similar to Ikta! And it's sad to know this experience with Yatori was right before what probably was the worst part of Ikta's life, with the loss of his father, and then his mother. I'm glad he got to meet Yatori before that though.
That wolf scene was way more intense and brutal than what I was expecting, and honestly it was amazing, my question is if wolves can really be that smart? I don't doubt it though.
The end of this episode was super cute, when Ikta came back to save Yatori from this "hopeless land", since their country will continue to embark on non-meaningful wars, that only cause deaths and suffering, and Ikta knows that Yatori doesn't want that. I wonder what happened for them to embark on that boat on the 1st episode to become soldiers though. Did Yatori refused to let go of the "dream" of becoming a soldier?
This also opens up for the possibility of in the future, Ikta and Yatori running away from the Empire.
In the end, I'm really excited for the next episode, and this anime is getting better and better.
I really hope that Ikta can be the scientist he always wanted to be, accompanied by Yatori, since she seemed to like the idea. They don't deserve to be in such a cruel and agressive world :(
