The foreign girl must be the captain of the spree since she's carrying a captain's hat.

Its really getting serious now. The Musashi message could be a trap but its hard to tell.

this is still pretty solid wondering if this is gonna continue the way it is or go full on serious, with this large amount of characters quite a few of them still don't consider the situation dare which is understandable since no one understands what the hell is going on looks like even Shiro's mom wasn't aware of these events.

Now I have couple problems, even with smoke screen, at 3km, for the Deutschland class to miss is pure BS.
And they only carried 1 torpedo for training? And I never heard of the "screw shot" or do they mean the ASW round. IJN did use ASW shells for their 5" guns.

As someone who has played a fair number of tabletop naval miniature games (General Quarters and Seekrieg) I have found out the hard way: the dice gods are not your friends, but can be absolute jerks at times when they want to! Particularly when you have "point blank" shots and wiff!!! :)
Seriously... the way I see how this universe is set up is yes, they are highly automated ships (how else could Harekaze, for example, be effectively crewed with under 40 high school girls when during the war Kagerous had crews 6 times larger), but for stuff like gunnery, they still use what the ships had during the war, which means that Spee(r) did not have radar fire control, but still optical. They could use the radar to help locate, but they still have to use the old tools to put rounds on target. Of course, Harekaze were not doing Admiral Spee any favors with the shell chasing and the radical speed changes, plus the smokescreen.
Overall, loved the episode, and can't wait til next week, tho' I wish it was next week now!! :)

Optical or not, smoke screen at such short rnage would not be very effective. From afar a smoke screen may completely block your view. However at just 3km with optical equipments, you can see where the smoke is coming from, making it much less effective
Speed change and evasive maneuvers is also much less effective at such range.
the shell would reach the target in a split second. Where as the ship would take some time to make any major speed or directional changes. In the amount of time for a supersonic shell to reach 3km, the ship would of barely changed position from its previous location to throw off any shots.
Same goes for shell chasing.

USN archives have said that a US light cruiser at full speed and full rudder would take around 30 seconds to make any important changes in heading. For estimation, a destroyer probably would take 20-25 seconds. That's around the same time the main guns of the Deutschland can fire again. Please take in consideration that is heading not actual positioning.
It may of changed a little from the prediction, but with how naval gun spreads are, that's too small to say that it will miss you.

And if we are to take in consideration of the secondaries, they can pound on the Harekaze long before it can make any changes.

Play the Battleship class of ships in World of Warships. You can miss a destroyer with 2/3 of your shots in one salvo from a range of 0.5 km if you are really unlucky.

This isn't a game. And only tier IV BBs miss that badly. Every other BB later can at least land a hit or two even under the most unlucky of cases.
Most BBs don't have a spread bigger than about 200m at 20km. A destroyer is typically around 100m. At 3km, it should be almost well above 50% hit rate.

Almost forgot...
I have compared the conning tower of the anime "Admiral Spee." It matches with the RL Admiral Graf Spee.

The Admiral Scheer had a slightly different FCS mounting. Graf Spee have a full triangular conning tower. The Scheer however have that up to the bridge, everything above that is a circular tower for the FCS similar to the Deutschland.

The subtitles probably was a mistake and left of the "graf."
Once again, it is Admiral Graf Spee.

One of my friends is watching it now, and he noticed this little bit:

Anyway, my thoughts on the episode...

HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE

While the first episode served to be a mindfuck of a twist at the end, this episode introduced some more plot threads that add on to the "what the fuck is happening" suspense - also, Hime spoke. Hime hot af.

There was a bit of a twist at the end that isn't much compared to last week's "DAFUQ" twist, but it sets up what can possibly happen in the next episode nicely. Also, potential new character introduced from an enemy ship that was hunting the main ship down but she seemed to leave on a small boat to be heading towards the Hazekare...? She's currently aboard the ship and I want to know what's going to happen with her and the call at the end now, goddammit.

In other Haifuri news, the OP debuted this episode and it's FUCKING GLORIOUS

OH DEAR GOD DAT OP THO

the rest of the soundtrack is meh, giving a distinct military and navy vibe, BUT THAT FUCKING OP IS FUCKING FUCKING FUCK FUCK GR8 M8

Also, it bumped into the 7's territory on MAL finally, after being dragged around in the 6's after the first episode. It's been on a steady climb since after the debut episode, so I guess the shitstain of the jackasses who watched it and promptly hellvoted it because "EW CGDCT I NEED MUH SUBSTANCE MUH ORIGINALITY MUH COMPLEXITY ANIME IS SRS BSNS" is being washed away by people who...y'know, watched more than the first 10 minutes of the first episode.

My thoughts exactly. The ship seemed fine to me so probably the latter

OR
It could be both.

The Musashi could have befalled upon itself the same ill fate that has taken the other ships and through sending the distress call Moka would, in truly wanting help, unwittingly send other ships (in this case the Harekaze) into a trap.

Hm, good thought there. I was thinking more with me being the sadistic guy I am that somehow Moeka would be tricked or brainwashed into thinking that Akeno was in the wrong, and as a result deciding to lead her into a trap to protect her in her own 'righteous' way, thus putting Akeno through various inner conflicts and sadness at knowing that her own best friend didn't believe in her. That would be good for character development though, as she finds her aspirations and maybe also gains support and more development from the other characters (mainly Mashiro) I also took it that way because the ship that she was making the call from looked absolutely fine to me, but indeed there is also a high chance that it was both.

Yeah it's really a huge jumbled confusing mess and it's really engrossing because of that. We have no idea what the heck is going on, which makes it all the more interesting as observers to these young maidens that strive to protect the far-reaching sea, as Blue Mermaids DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUN
And yes, Hime is such a qt~ although I attribute some of that good interpretation of her character design to her similarities to Diesel-san xD

Well as for this episode it was pretty interesting. I waited for this although there is plenty of questions that people have about this show that probably won't get answered for awhile, but that's an anime for you. For an action, School, Military anime this show is pretty good.

Anyways I read a few comments. Anyways As for the next episode a lot of people was saying it's a trap. Well that's possible but last I checked this is no drama Genres anime. So I don't think they will make both friends Attack each other. I could be wrong, but I don't think there friends would be willing to do that unless they had like no choice.

Anyways no one is for sure how this is going to turn out. If they plan to put drama crap in this then they should at least give the genre of Drama. So far it's only Action, Military, School and that hasn't changed sense I last checked it. Well maybe they could have attacked her friends ship to lure them there that's possible maybe. Anyways have to wait until next week to find out.

Personally I am hoping for no drama crap as this is no drama anime. So i'm hoping the 2 friends do not fight each other.

I want to know why the Musashi contacted a ship of known "mutineers" for help, though – whereas it could just be because the Captain of the Musashi is the Captain of the Harekaze’s childhood friend, what if it’s a trap? What danger is the Musashi in to the point where they’re desperate enough to contact known "defectors" for help instead of a different ship who isn’t thought to be traitors and are potentially closer?

so many questions, this series is fucking great at building up intrigue

Surprisingly really fun episode. This show does a good job at keeping that "cute girls doing cute things" vibe that I expected from this show, but mixes it with a pretty decent plot. I hope the whole mutiny thing is an arc and not the whole series though cause I don't think that would keep my interest for the whole cour.

The cast is incredibly likeable, and with a cast as big as this one is, that's all it really needs to be. Koko's self-conversations were really funny and cute, definetely my favourite personality thus far. I'm intrigued to see how Moeka is gonna be play into this story. The other anime that prominemtly features a girl named Moeka doesn't really view her in a positive light, so that's not exactly a good sign lol (half-props if you get my reference, but almost everyone should get it xD).

Just a damn good time in this episode, and I hope it keeps it up.

I'm so going to laugh at all the people that are proven wrong about the two friends betraying each other or that her friends set her up is proven wrong. Them two grew up together and as I recall there was no bad blood between them from the start. So it would add more confusion plus the fact they'll have to add another genre to this anime in tag it as Drama too.

There is plenty of questions already. If it is a trap it's probably wasn't her friend that called them, was a voice recording, she's been kidnapped, or forced because otherwise I wouldn't and can't see how it would happen or the reason behind it plus the fact the anime genre isn't drama wouldn't make sense for them to take that direction.

Now if it was an Action, Military, School, Drama and there was bad blood between the two friends then I could see it happening. As of right now I can't, but then again. Know one really knows it's all guesses and assumes. Also Assume anything "Makes an Ass of U and me."

As Ajunky said, the eyes in the first episode and the girl trying to scape from her ship and being attacked and she was also holding a captain cap (a friend's cap?). Probably Moeka scaped from that "mind control" and is calling her for help knowing she isn't under this effect.

It could be a trap but a friendly one. i.e Moeka might have gotten the gist of what is actually happening and before anyone else try to destroy Harukaze why not capture them herself and listen to their story first. Since she is friends with Misaki she would not attack them and can protect them after knowing what actually happened.

or it is the same case as is with Admiral Scheer/Spee i.e Musashi is being taken over by the actual schemers behind this apparent insurrection and she has no choice but to call to her friend for help.

This is very interesting and I hope the show will retain its awesomeness in the coming episodes too. Looking forward to the next episode. :)

I don't think anyone's actually dying, unless it's in a flash back. A guy who was very involved in Girls und Panzer is also involved in this show. SO I expect to see exactly the same sort of material from that anime into this one. In short, this is gonna be gud.

In GuP, all the fighting is for sport and in good fun, even in Ribon no Musha. This time, it is most definitely not. In reality sport-fighting with tanks could be dangerous in the way live-fire armour exercises are, but it's no colossal stretch for there to never be serious casualties. Not so this time.

I wouldn't say it's certain that one of the Harekaze's crew will be killed, but death should very much be haunting them—eg, maybe they'll see themselves kill someone else, which could be even more horrifying for the girls.

Yeah, good point. I forgot about that. In GuP, they were using special ammo, special tank armor and many other safety measures. Here, they have access to real ammo, AND they have been attacked with real ammo themselves in two different occasions so far, when it obviously isn't a normal occurrence in their world.
So I guess you're right. But even then I don't think it will ever go beyond the "danger being real" factor.
For crying out loud, you can see that half of the anime is all about cute girls doing cute things on real vessels. Beyond bruises, cuts and broken bones, you won't get anything else, and throwing in a said cute girl into a situation where she dies for reals is sorta misplaced. You shouldn't expect every show to pull off a Madoka :p

Now, that's not to say that I wouldn't welcome such a development, since I like gritty stuff myself. But I just don't see the target audience stomaching those things well.

Could you tell me the names of those series? i might have missed something that you might know of.

I am big fan of naval combat series but they are so few and far between that i am trying my best to find them.

One thing to look out for in the future episode is a hail.

I'm no navy man but I would think that before you fire upon a ship suspect of crimes such as mutiny or piracy that it would be standard operating procedure for one to hail the ship and ask for a surrender before firing.

As with the Sarushima and the Admiral Spee, the absence of hailing the other ship signals some dark purpose. In the next episode should the Musashi fail to hail the Harekaze I would suspect something wrong on the Musashi since I do not believe that Moka would not hail her friend's ship before opening fire.

I have a theory (never read the manga so sorry if it's not true)
The Instructor or the plotters want to shame Mashiro Mother and oust her as Principal for the Blue mermaids.
Since she maybe just recently changed from Instructor to Principal and cleaned up the wrong doings of her predecessor?

They attack her daughters ship, call them mutineers and then oust the Principle.
Two birds one stone

And to why the German exchange students attack them:
Maybe the port, where the Principal is, send a message out to all ships close to the Harekaze alerting them if they see the Harekaze and attack them on sight or at least cripple their ship.
They already declared them as mutineers (even Harekaze crew knows about it) so maybe the germans were the closest to the their position.

Blonde Girl (may or may not be a double agent) tries diplomacy but her crew fires anyway.

Sorry if this had been repeated before.

Good episode and I'm 95% certain that the call is a trap. I suspect that someone is using Moka as Akeno's best friend to contact Harekaze to lure them in, since it seems that when it shows Moka's face she looks afraid or scared of something, so I think that she is threatened by someone to do what she is told. Because I don't think that she would sell out her best friend like that. Also, what the hell would the f**king Musashi be afraid of besides a f**kton of torpedoes?

Also Mei is easily best girl and this show is TENSE!

Could you tell me the names of those series? i might have missed something that you might know of.

I am big fan of naval combat series but they are so few and far between that i am trying my best to find them.

so far i have watched:
-Blue Submarine no.6
-Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova +movies
-Tide Line blue
-Submarine 707r
-Kancolle (This is not a real navy series)
-Zipang
- Gargantia of the verdousus planet( Maybe not but the setting is on a fleet of derelict ships with some ship to ship battles)
- Finally this one High school fleet.

If you know any other title besides these let me know. will you... also to anyone else who see this.

Thanks! I also got a tip about Chinmoku no Kantai - Silent Service.

thanks i will add it to my list.... i have noticed a lot of these are too short...we need more full season series.

Well for all we know there could be several reasons that her friend just now contacted her. Although there just people assume things which makes an ass out of U and Me. 1 The Communication system could have been down until now, Interference, Electronic warfare, they wasn't in range of communication, or it could just be a trap like others say (Don't see that happening unless her friend just wants to know the truth about what happened, Is forced to, Held captive, there was bad blood between the two friends, or if this was labeled as Drama/Slice of Life anime which at the moment it's only label as Action, Military, School.

Me personally I'm hoping for the ship to be in real trouble, but there could be someone that intercepted the transmission or something maybe. There will be plenty of question that need answers to as this goes farther.
