I think the OP song is alright, personally like their signature song better though.

Good episode, I liked that performance Mikumo and her team put at the end.
Freyja's funny to watch on audition day and plus, she's got major competition. I think she has a decent singing voice though and a mysterious power. Glad to see she made it to the team :D

Dang that whole Vars Syndrome scenario was just the final part of Freyja's audition but it was still disturbing as hell. She can sing pretty well and I'm getting used to her, but Makina is still the best.

Loved the interaction between mirage and hayate.
and the last audition that rather disturbing when megane elf is bleeding.

Still can't decide the best girl, mirage or freyja. OP ED are nice.

"power of love", "Love Triangles" and "Power of music" are pretty much the main core of any Macross, going all the way back to the original SDF.

Haha yeah I would also get tricked by this train (final audition) stuff.
Well this last audition show if she really prepared to fight for her life, really like this new voice actor that are doing Wion Frejya .
Her singing is so good and most of all I like dialect. Haha
Omg that other girl when Hayate touch her plane, seem like some trouble.

I guess reason that scored is so bad cause of pre-airing episode 1, but it's so much better now.

My only issue with this episode is that the Knights of the Wind got shafted this episode. But flow wise, it makes sense we get Freya into Walkure ASAP

The op and ending were kind of meh to me. Still not sure what to think of Mirage for some reason the relationship between Hayate & Mirage reminded me of Yuuya & Yui from total eclipse. Looking at it right now Mirage is tsun tsun & from the opening part showing Mirage and Hayate acting like bros i guess she will evolve into a dere dere. I guess we are looking at a tsundere in the making.

The soundtrack so far other than Ikenai Borderline is pretty generic and bland. I hope to hear some improvement. Macross has my things, but forgettable music is not one of them. Heck even Macross Zero had some great tunes like Mayan.

Mirage and Hayate probably get off to the worst start since her grandad Max romanced Milia back in the original Macross series. When they together in the future, the sparks will fly. Freya will have her work cut out for her. However I'm not that sure this triangle will create the same shipping wars that Ranka/Sheryl/Alto did back in 07-08.

We get the first hints about Windermere becoming 'independent' and shutting out outside culture. A hermit kingdom of some sort perhaps? In any case it's interesting to have planetary settings instead of the convoys we got used to in Frontier and 7.

So yeah, we already have some hints at wtf going on as the enemy pilots are clearly same species as the little girl. We also see that the badguy faction seems to have more motives than meets the eye, considering what we hear about her species through episode.

And Mirage is already living up to her lineage. Her interactions with Hayate are comedy gold. Already best girl.

Production values wise I am still blown away by the designs and architecture present in this show. Its beyond beautiful. And the songs remain brilliant. Visual designs, soundttrack, and directing all sync perfectly into very enjoyable experience

5/5 for episode.

That was a damn enjoyable episode. I'm not one to usually love moe characters, but I have to say Freyja won me over her side~

Loved the worldbuilding with the new planet and of course the classic pilot test and singing auditions. This episode had in a nutshell everything I liked about Frontier and it seems to deliver with the same scale here haha

I really enjoyed Delta’s second episode. They almost blew away all my complaints about the overall light hearted tone of this show. Ragna has beautiful scenery, overflowing with creativity and the well-done animation heavily contributed to keep me hooked from start to finish. Story-wise, I really enjoyed how much they emphasized that both pilots and idols are risking their lives. In order to succeed on the battlefield fear must be overcome, and Freyja passed the test. Hayate, on the other hand, already showed some guts, but let’s see how he fares in the next episode.

Sounds like you're new to Macross, lol.
Macross from the very first has always used "Love Triangles" in their series.

SDF = Minmay - Hikaru - Misa
Plus = Isamu - Myung - Guld
Seven = Basara - Mylene - Gamlin
Zero = Sara - Shin - Mao
Frontier = Sheryl - Alto - Ranka

It's just the "Genwunners" complaining that this isn't the same "Macross" that they watched for the first time. Complaining majorly about the "Idol Group" while discrediting the whole story just because of that.

IMO, At this point of the story the military having their own group of singers makes sense. It's proven for decades that singers have been a major power in all the wars, why should they wait and just flex their military muscle when they can scout these gifted singers themselves in anticipation for any major conflict.

Compared to previous Macross shows where they start using music for fighting later, seems like things are going fast here. Delta's Minmei-clone wastes no time when it comes to becoming aidoru. I guess things are going the same Macross route like always, no thought or development put into it. Just let the guy be a pilot and girl an idol. KYUN KYUN WATASHI NO KARE WA PAIROTO Delta ver. when?

I wouldn't go that far and say that they didn't put any thought into it
You have one female character that is a pilot and now the main character is becoming one on the other hand you have a whole group of characters that are idols and one that is becoming one if they cover up that well and show how different it is to be a newbie and how it is to be a pro it can turn out well

The audition was really lame though not as amazingly done as in Frontier were the director resembled Kawamori and the Miss Macross contest was basically the real life Macross F audition not to forget that the movie turned out to be Macross Zero compared to that Delta's one was garbage

Actually no it wasn't that great as a standalone either

I think it's an issue of having a large cast. They need to move quickly in some areas of character story progression to leave more time for meaningful development in other areas.

It's not something I consider optimal because the pacing can feel rushed and uneven. But I guess they have no choice unless they decide to shed some characters somehow, or treat the antagonists as paper villains.

Well, im still not convinced this will be any good.
This episode was slightly better (perhaps because there wasn't any dancing VF), but still bad, compared to the older ones (macross 7 aside).
Either way, i'll keep an eye on it.

That's why you normally introduce characters slowly as the show progresses, rather than starting with too many characters. Delta's problem is that too many of these characters are important, and they want to focus on all of them at the same time. But I guess the idol squad is supposed to be the selling point, so they had to be introduced right away.

Fun fact though, Putting aside whether gg actually wants to sub this or not. NO ONE in the west may air this legally due to Harmony Gold's Bullshit IP trolling. Macross isn't allowed to exist in the west lol. Not even Crunchyroll would dare to take on Harmony Gold's bullshit.

I just hope gg doesn't take too long on releasing new episodes.

I thought about that too. They seem to be in a hurry to introduce all the players ASAP. Might this perhaps be the first Macross TV series that is a one cour show? If they have 24, 25 episodes what's the rush?

I hope not. Even if the beginning is bumpy, 2-cour is still enough for it to improve a lot. 1-cour would just doom it since it's definitely not enough time to develop all these characters. At least I hope they treat the idol group as characters, rather than just tools to teach and train the main girl.

Chihiro-Doki have better type and video and a tiny bit better translation. But why the Hell they left honorifics? It's not some god damn samurai show? It's not even Japanese setting here!

Adding that they are 7-8 days late, I'll personally will stuck with GG. This time around they didn't try to make troll subs or go overboard with adaptation.

So a Zentrandi, a Fidiaminan and a human walk into a bar........

Alright, jokes aside, it's not the first time and definitely not gonna be the last time that we're having some intra-species love triangles again.

I'm glad it took less than two episodes for them to start getting recruited for the inter-galactic conflict that is to come. The scene Hayate threw his hands up was so classic it nearly brought a tear to my eyes (big shout out to Isamu there). The art looks decent, at least similar to Frontier.

Not too used to this group idol system though. I know Basara had a similar squad in 7, but since they were a private rock band working apart from the military, it just wasn't the same. Still prefer the old "Single Idol with special voice to change/save the universe" system, max I'll allow for duets. But when it becomes an idol girl band, well.... it just doesn't feel the same anymore... it's like they're manufacturing heroines, which makes each of them just that less special.

Wondering whether we'll get any special guest appearances from casts of the old shows.

What a nice episode, it´s starting to warm up! And well, there we have our triangle confirmed... #teamfreyjaftw lol But really, the Macross characters I´ve rooted for until today never got lucky with their love interests, so I´m a bit scared TuT Nothing against Mirage, though. I´m curious about how her family´s going.

Anyways, Freyja is so cute, she got a lovely voice. The songs until now were very nice.

Plus, "Kira~" little girl and mercats <3 Adorable!
