Kind of. I never talk about anime per se, but sometimes I admit to it, mostly to close friends since anime is seen as "weird" to most people. Sometimes I'm caught watching it, so I always just say 'Yeah, I watch anime" and life goes on.

Yes, if they happen to ask. Otherwise, it doesn't really come up.

I would never, even if they don't mind or start talking excitedly about their fave anime.

It's a pretty weird topic for some. So I basically wait until I figure out or not if my friend likes it before I talk about it to them. It's easier for me that way. All I have to do is hang out with them enough to find out if they watch it or read manga.

Hello! I have a lot of friends and yes, I am the only one into Anime. Its pretty ethical that we respect each other's interest all and only if they ask then i'll answer. So yea, we all have to agree that we have our own guilty pleasures and whatever it is shouldnt disrupts your friendship :) unless your guilty pleasure is uhhhhh disturbing.

You're watching cartoons, not fucking your sister. If you act like there's something to be ashamed off from watching it then it just means that you're an insecure twat that allows something as trivial as watching Japanese cartoons define you as a person.

Seriously, just stop being a pussy.

I just got into anime this year too! So with that pretense, no, I omit I watch anime because it is sort of like you say, but there is no way I can hide being a nerd, even if I wasn't. However I do not want people to perceive me as being a creeper.

That 12-year-old is probably just going through that 'pretentious' stage. Around that age, I used to think Disney could only be enjoyed by kids.....

Of course I tell my friends I watch anime. In fact, everyone currently in my grade knows I watch anime, to the point where I'm pretty much questioned EVERYWHERE. I'm pretty outspoken when it comes down to anime.

"So, you watch the anime thingy- or whatever..?" <~ Everyone else(with the exception of friends).

"I think it should be obvious m8." <~ My reply.

I find that most people these days have no real opinion they are either open to it, and if they are not they politely keep to themselves. I'm lucky all my friends get me :3

Most of my friends come from when i was a child.A connection has already been established, they already know what i like.So no.

However, when meeting new people,i only tell them if they ask,or if i just randomly end up on the topic in a conversation. Then again, about 70% of my wardrobe consist of anime shirts,so i assume they already know.

Well, to be frank I do not have those kind of friends who are in tune with this kind of entertainment industry. Yet, I do tell them that I watch anime (though half of them just simply fail to understand what that word of 'anime' means while the other half of them just skip the part of the conversation where I reveal that 'I watch anime' and move into talking other stuff) so my response is positive. I am not a person who conceal her personal preferences of watching and cover them up in community in order to fit 'the established structure of society' in. If I love something and I am attached to 'that thing' with a great loyalty and respect, I generally remark that I do love 'that thing'. I am on the opinion that there is no wrong side on that. Besides everything, one ought to always state that she/he watches animes due to the fact that animes are good stuff and contain fragments from 'real-world-life' which often helps the audience to englighten interms of many extensive ways.
To make a long story short, I do watch anime and I do tell 'this' to my friends/ folks/ relatives/ people whom I know ow whatever.
Long live anime watchers!

Well, Personally I do tell people. Two of my Best Friends love anime, Although it has made people I knew back off from me too. I think you should just tell them if they ask or if it comes up in conversation, If they don't like it well then meh.

This, or sometimes even then, I don't and observe them talk without realizing that I've actually watched this and that series that they've been discussing, and try not to laugh at some mistaken facts they have of certain instances or something. Heh.

If they ask me or if the subject comes up I'll say it. No one has ever judged me irl for watching anime ever. No one over 18 really cares what kind of shows people like to watch.

I only tell my closer friends, now, ever since I made the mistake of telling an anime club kid 'yes'.

Kid started bringing me his stolen deviant art pics claiming they were his.

Hard to grin and bear it when you have someone bringing you stolen creepy pasta sonic fanart.

I remember telling them a long time ago I was into anime, back when I was so proud of it and a full-on weeb. Most people would assume I do though since I do draw in an anime style and I'm usually drawing when I'm bored.

I will kinda hint towards it, cause with the people I know, first thing that comes to mind when they hear anime is something perverted because of the obscured view that the common people have of anime lol

I don't go around preaching about it, there is nothing worse than an evangelical anime fan. But I don't hide the fact either, it's surprising who you learn also watches anime. Most people just don't care, I've found a mix of people revealing they watch some/do watch it, it just not being something they care about or occasionally a bit of ribbing (but thats rare). This idea that you'll be ostracised as a nerd or a werido is BS, I think that only happens if people suspected you were a nerd or a weirdo anyway... or you start talking about some weird show or hentai :D

The day my aunt started talking about hyperviolent anime after my OH brought up Fate/Zero was interesting. lol

Friends? Can't say I got any. Though I don't mind telling it to acquaintances if it somehow comes up during conversations. And they usually don't care too much about it.
Though a lot of them have said this line "just don't watch that anime porn, hentai or whatever it's called"

Nope. It just slips my mind. It's kind of awkward going to someone and saying 'I like anime, do you?' even if they ARE my friend.

I have key rings and like anime merchandise so that's how people know I like it. Otherwise I wait to see if they like anime (like if they bring it up) and then I'll talk to them about it. I never bring it up because some people don't watch it or don't like it so they feel left out if you're discussing it with someone and they are just like 'I have no idea what you're talking about.' Also it's hard to find people who like the exact same genres as me or each other. :D
To love and to hold, in sickness and in health. I wish for the impossible that you have made possible. Maybe one day I will be able to stand next to you as an equal and whisper those loving words back.

If you can't tell your friends you watch anime they aren't really friends.

And to everyone saying you would have no reason to tell them, you know asking your friends what they're into and seeing stuff that you may have in common is part of friendship right? And when they ask what did you do last night or similar things it makes me think you are probably purposely hiding it
