| I think Reinas reason for playing the trompet is pretty odd. "Because i want to become special"... so the music and the instrument is unimportant to you.. you just want to feel special. And is the trompet really that special? Compared to the other instrument in the band trompet is the least special one. Kumiko with her Euphonium is more special. Ok..i know.. she wanted to be different from the other sterotypic highschool girls in todays society with their smartphones and their shallow clothings and personalities, but i am just saying that seeing trompet just as a way to be "special" doesnt make a great mucian out of you.. Yeah you may be able to learn and to play fluently and clean but you wont ever have a real passion for music and therefore the potential for greatness. And you probably wont enjoy it yourself that much as you need to if you want to be REALLY good. And to her second quote: "If i practice more, and become better, i can become even more special."... Well you have to become good in the first place to get "even more special". And i am not talking about Highschool level good like she is. I have to say though that these quotes might be translation errors from the sub. If that is the case i take everything back. |

| @Lockensocke Remember what Goto said about tuba, that it's a behind the scenes instrument which supports the band? There is some basis that people pick the instruments which fit their personality. I'll quote from someone else here: "The trumpet is not an instrument that can hide in the back row and hope no one hears you (like a second violin player). It’s not an instrument to play if you are concerned about one or two missed notes (like a piano player). No matter where you sit in the ensemble, you will be heard and every note that you miss will be known to everyone within one hundred miles. Everything you play and every thing you do is on the line any time you have a horn in your hand." It's also because of this fact that the trumpets in particular get a lot of the attention in the band. Reina is genuinely passionate about band, and the trumpet is the instrument which best fits her ambitious personality. |

All i see is a normal girl who is pretty serious most of the time learning her parts like any other member of the band. ofc, that is nothing that contradicts passion, but like i said before, it doesnt show passion. |

| Ah the cat's finally out of the bag. I had my suspicions about those two back when Goto said that he loves playing the tuba and looked over at Riko, who responded with a smile. Quite an eventful episode with all of the happenings at the festival. Poor Hazuki, but I'm glad they didn't try to drag out and focus on the romance aspect. Reina and Kumiko's moment at the summit was really something else, finally getting a glimpse past Reina's stoicism provided closure on that muddled up awkward past. On the other hand, it's only resulted in an even more awkward present. |

| The amount of "just gals being pals" in this thread is a bit irritating but whatever. You can't really blame yuri shippers for wanting yuri when us lesbians hardly ever get any actual representation outside of measly subtexty scraps (which isn't really representation after all) =/. While it's true women are generally more touchy feely with eachother, it's sort of rude and heteronormative to insist that there couldn't ever possibly be a chance of there being anything more to it when you'd scream 'they must be in love!' if a guy and a girl so much as look at eachother. We exist too, y'know. <_< It's rather sad to be constantly erased like there's something wrong with it that needs to be hidden. >_> But everyone's entitled to ship whatever they like — I'm not trying to insist that they must be in love either since it's kept at a subtext level at the moment and thus is technically a matter of interpretation. I agree that unless a ship is explicitly developed and the characters' romantic feelings are actually elaborated upon as such (or announced by the creators as canon as such in Legend of Korra) then one can't conclusively say it's absolutely canon since canon is what is considered true in-universe. If it falls short of that then it'll just end up being subtextual implications left open to viewer interpretation of the text. But either way, canon or not, ship whatever you like. Everyone's got their own shipping tastes, after all. But I will say that, at the end of the day, it's still not very nice to rag on yuri fans for wanting yuri when it's so rare and constantly cast aside. [sigh] I do wish they would pursue the Kumiko/Reina route since their dynamic still has this electric aura and they have really great, natural chemistry together to me. Really does remind me of how I felt falling in love with another girl; that sort of electricity. That sort of magical interaction and fascination with another person just reminds me of my own experiences, simply put. So that does influence how I view their scenes personally. Could definitely become another OTP for me. Guess I can always just draw my fanart and write my fanfics if it really doesn't happen after all, haha. And it hardly ever does happen outside of shows specifically geared towards that sort of thing, so I won't get my hopes up (even though I really don't think it's fair to confine anything yuri to its own particular genre and not let there be any sort of lesbian romantic subplot in other media). I just hope they leave things ambiguous at least in the anime so as not to sink anything. Anyways, this was a fun episode. Really great to see those two bonding. Poor Hazuki, getting rejected. I still don't find Shuuichi to be a remotely interesting character, though. Kind of feel like he's just getting in the way of things =/ Nor is there really anything unique about his character. -shrug- But y'know, if you like him, then have fun with that. I know I'm late to the party but ayyye, have my two cents anyways. Guess I'll finish catching up on this and seeing where it goes, haha! |

I just wanted to say that your post was very well written and I totally agree with you. I personally am a heterosexual male, but I know many lesbian and bi women and, in general, the way that Kuniko and Reina's relationship has been portrayed strikes a chord with the stories they have told me about their early realization of their sexual preference. How does "i want to be special...etc.." show that you have a passion for MUSIC? And how does wanting to win nations show that as well... it only shows that you have a passion for winning. If she really had a passion for music she would only care if SHE herself becomes better, not that the brassband as a team becomes better, so winning the compedition would be meaningless to her. And i also wonder if we watch the same show.... yeah and the character bio is very important, especially if it isnt mentioned to the show... oh wait |

| Oh whoa, this was a nice episode. Visuals and sound are always top notch. The tensions are rising between the cast and I wonder if this will affect the future of the concert band. Yuri bait to the max. |

| Ah, Hazuki, that scene at the end where she cries in Sapphire's arms, that was so well done- no speaking was needed. And the scene on the mountain, that was elegant and beautiful. I absolutely loved how they wove the legend of the Snow Maiden into the story, and with Reina looking exactly like the description of her. No wasted motion in that sequence. Beautiful. |

| What a boring and pointless episode... Kousaka is terribly written and dull character. At one moment she's completely gloomy telling stories and her life goals in big words, next she's smiling and laughing like she changed personality in one moment. At least we finally established that Shuichi is interested in Kumiko, which is nice for series progress :P |
| The art was great here even expecting it from Kyoani it still surpasses it Asuka's remark at the shrine about relying on practise and determination instead of praying hit the nail Midori's sister is just too cute, mini Midori I loved the other stories as well with the cutest two girls walking up the mountain at the end playing a piece No reasons to complain overall |

| That rather weak rejection... at least they did add a romance attribute to this show and I do wonder if it will develop further in this series. Either way a pretty lovely episode in general! Let's see what's next. |

| Just.. no. I don't know if I am the only one who feel this way, but it feels like the writer doesn't know what else to write and decided to take a step back and go whole romance on us. Goto and the other girl (don't even know who she is, all 'em look-alike kyoani characters) have been together this whole time? Really? Come on. Teasing us with Oumae and Kousaka? Nah it totally felt intended, which doesn't please me at all. I like my yuri, but not like this. Tsukamoto suddenly have feelings for Oumae? It's not confirmed yet, but that came out of the left field. Yes, we've seen him approach her a few times, but there was never any hints of him being romantically interested in her. But I guess, to the Japanese, you can't be kind without being in love with someone. The whole episode just felt very forced and cringy. I hope it gets back on track, and even then, my impression on this series has turned sour, don't know if the last few episodes could mend it back for me. :/ |

| My heart hurts but it's a not-so-bad kind of hurt. I'm tearing up... This episode was one of the most sensible things I've ever seen in my life (right along Tamako Market episode 9, and perhaps Tamako Love Story). So beautiful. I could give 10/10 for this alone. I'm surprised that (some?) people here seem to have disliked it... huh :o |

| Nanka eroi ｡◕‿◕｡ Everything was so adorable about this episode. While I seriously doubt there is going to be any shoujo-ai in this series, bond between Reina and Kumiko is definite. I wonder where they are going with it? Also, the city scene kinda reminded me of one CG from Rewrite: Loved it. |

| That was breathtakingly beautiful and gay. I'm so happy I got to see this, I've seen a lot of animays but this one episode was absolutely special for me and I will never forget the feeling I watched it with. Also, poor Hazuki. She is a great girl. She looks cutier without her flower clip. |

| -Weird, they didn't do a recap segment before the OP. All the better for me, though, since last episode was easily my least favorite. -Suddenly I'm not getting a good feeling about continuing this show, and the last episode certainly didn't help. At least they're doing new developments in this episode. -These episodes seem pretty empty as of late -Kumiko jumped out of the frying pan and straight onto the floor -Kohaku is adorable and at first I thought Green sapphire was kneeling and tugging on Hazuki's sweater -Did I skip an episode somewhere? What shrine is Reina talking about? Was it the one by their middle school? -Am I even watching the same show anymore? Did Kumiko always have a sadism fetish? -Alright, Hazuki's explanation of the tuba's role was pretty great, and that wasn't the reaction I thought she'd have to the rejection -I... have no idea what Reina was saying or what prompted her to reveal those things on the last leg of the mountain climb -Kumiko didn't strike me as a bad person, just tactless and absentminded -Yeah there's the reaction I expected from Hazuki, but Green sapphire and micro Green sapphire consoling her was pretty heartwarming The last scene of Reina and Kumiko walking up the mountain were pretty confusing to me when I first watched through the episode. After I watched it again to try to make sense of it, I realized that the act of climbing the mountain itself was supposed to be a sign that Reina preferred to do things outside of the norm. Doing it in heels and a nightgown was another detail that fell in line with her goals as revealed at their destination, which made the whole thing make a little more sense. Even then I'm not entirely sure I understood the second half of this episode. Anyway while the last episode made the show lose a lot of the magic that I thought it had, this episode makes me skeptical of the rest of the series, mostly because of the love triangle. also after reading through the rest of this topic it looks like the mountain hike was just fanservice which made me understand it even less |
