If I can suppose that this story will end with Sawamura being the 3rd year ace winning at Koushien, then there's still a long way to go. Nothing wrong about that I guess.

Well, all I can say it that Eijun's character was sacrificed for the sake of the plot and I dislike it (since episode 61, to be honest). It's inconsistent, the plot wobbled b/w deciding whether Inashiro won because they were better or because their victory was tipped by an ounce of luck in the end. If the two teams were deemed equal, then "chance" was a possible explanation. If they weren't, one has to admit that Seido had problems from the beginning, and they cannot be attributed to Eijun or Nori's play. Why?
First thing, Seido indeed has no ace. Tanba's mentality doesn't suffice, Furuya has rarely played in real games, Kawakami is better used when victory is certain, and Eijun lacks skills. What Eijun doesn't lack though is investment in the game. Plastering him good with cliche such as "breaking under pressure" was out of character and very convenient. I'd rather had him screwing up because lacking accuracy then inaccuracy because of pressure.
Second, the coach and Miyuki should have known all the above. Then the relay should have been - Tanba, Kawakami, Eijun, Furuya. Eijun and Furuya could have put much more pressure not only on Mei, but also on the whole Inashiro team when it mattered - during the last innings.
Third, Mei sealed off experienced player like Yuki early in the game. My impression is that the second and the third-year players, albeit good, albeit being fairly matched against Inashiro, could do as much :L

Also, a tad bit of redundant episodes in this arc.

^ Yeah, I don't think Seido is equal to Inashiro. Narumiya is a good pitcher AND has the mentality. For them to rely on only one pitcher throughout the game is much stronger than Seido who needed to rotate between four, all of them with obvious flaws.

I think the relay should have been the same except instead of switching Eijun out for Kawakami, Furuya should have been put back in. If that's possible?

It really doesn't matter that much to me that they lost. Sure, let's admit it, that result was very predictable, but I'm not watching this for the result of their games alone. I wouldn't dislike a sports anime just because the protagonist team lost even once. They're bound to lose at one point, and it just happens that they lost to Inashiro, in this particular game.

What I'd like to point out though is that the way the game was shown (how many episodes was this game again) is well-done and realistic. Though admittedly slow-paced, it was never boring for me at all. The level of intensity always gets me. The characters are interesting enough too, and I'm referring to not only Seido, but their rivals as well.

I'm saying that I'm very much satisfied with how this show's going, and I'm looking forward to what will happen next. Pretty sure Miyuki's gonna be captain, I can't think of anyone else suited for that position. As much as I'd like Sawamura be the ace, I doubt it'd happen any time soon with his current state. So for now I'll be rooting for you, Furuya.

You can only get back on the mound if you remained on the field iirc, like a pitcher can swap out to another position temporarily and then come back onto the mound.

Those two episodes were heavy.
When it come to sports anime, i really hate lose.
Although i didn't like it, but in this one it seemed quite inevitable.
Honestly,i feel excited about the upcoming events more than the previous game.
Looks like we found the new captain and ace.
Well, it's time to recruit some new members... The others will be missed.
For that matter i have only one wish, that Todoroki will join Seidou. Otherwise i will be very pissed off.

I nearly cried boys.

This was so emotional and painful to watch. Athletes understand. A lifelong athlete knows what it is like to be on the loosing side of a very important game with no second chance to take victory back. The game just ends. The faith you had in your talent and your team is hardened but a loss is a loss.

At the same time you understand what is like to never loose faith in your team and come out the victor.

I was very moved. The direction of the previous episode with the tying run leading to the winning run was executed so damn well that it left shocked. Couldn't believe what was happening on screen.

Furuya said it best. "I don't want to feel like that, anymore. The game ended before my eyes, and I was stuck in the dugout. If only I had been much better."

Let's go SEIDO!!!

What an emotional episode. They had so many good third years too. Besides the three second years at the end, who else is there left in that year o__o; What will they do now?

Furuya says he'll become the ace? I like this rivalry. It'll help Sawamura become a better player, and he'll end up taking that title :) I'm curious to where it goes from here.

Furuya was so cool! That was kind of a depressing episode. It'll definitely be interesting to see how Seido picks itself up especially without the powerhouse third years. I think Miyuki's going to be captain and Furuya's going to be the ace. I wonder what'll happen to Kawakami if that happens... This is getting really good wow.

I can't wait to see the rivalry build between Furuya and Sawamura as they fight to become the Ace. Im hoping Furuya's quick transition will get Sawamura to snap out of it and start fighting! Miyuki and his Chris-like sense for the game will probably result in him being captain. As for Kawakami, he was a closer for Tanba to start with, so I imagine that even with a new ace (or 2?) he'll be utilized plenty.

This double feature was certainly shocking and had a tremendous impact. What gets me the most is how there's no usual "next season" tournament and that this was literally it for the 3rd years. What's more, Miyuki brought up a very harsh point that without the third years, their team was going to be considerably weaker which, of course, is no match for next year's Inashiro.

The part that hit me the hardest and officially bumped this up to a 9/10 for me (finally) was that encounter between Furuya and Sawamura towards the end. Furuya's determination is commendable and earned him a whole new level of respect (especially considering he was running all day in the scorching heat - his ultimate weakness). It was also his line about never wanting to feel that loss and empty feeling of defeat ever again that hit home for me. Feelings of defeat and utter helplessness resurfaced thanks to this episode and reminded me why I continue training as hard as I do - so that I never have to go back to those days either.

Looking forward to where the team goes from here, and even though I'll miss the third years I am curious to see what the next batch of first years will bring to the table.

They were dragging the match like crazy just for making us feel a defeat. Could have had that sooner. But, anyway it was a strong episode. The 3rd vanished a bit too fast.

The mangaka and the anime adapters know exactly how to break your heart in the worst possible way. It felt as if you're about to take a bite and suddenly you hand is smacked and the food falls off. Especially, because I watched the episodes back to back it had a much larger impact. Couldn't stop crying! And it still feels pretty bitter.

But its a good lesson. This is exactly how a bitter defeat must feel!
Aaah! I feel like this anime should go o till June atleast not just til March. Want to see Seidou stand on the Nationals ground.

I haven't read the manga btw. I don't think it'll end with the finals of the next tournament. More like they'll have a match as a newly made team against some other school and then they'll win or something, and it'll just end like that implying we should read the manga for more.

Unless it gets another extention.

I don't know, somehow I find Mei's tears of joy...moving...

Saame :) I think it's because also of what he said, that he's glad they won because he had been talking big this whole past year. And because they won, his "time" can start moving again, and he'll officially be able to get over his mistake which had caused the team to lose in the previous year. I didn't really care too much about the other players on Inashiro, but good for Mei that they won. Seidou on the other hand...I love everyone, so it's really heartbreaking to see them all in tears. Couldn't help but cry along with them. Also when they said that the first years and second years couldn't cry like the third years, just so much pain.

But anyways, Miyuki already thinking about the future, he's determined and realistic as always. He also realized his mistake in the game, for not noticing that Eijun wasn't himself. And as for Furuya, as much as I don't care about him, he's the only out of the remaining three pitchers that is most suitable to be the next ace.

This episode shattered my heart. I was kinda expecting seido to lose but the fact that the third years are retiring ugh . This is my first time watching a sport anime like this although id really like it if they had one more chance to play together and go to the nationals with the third years. I cried so much and i cant even watch the op 1 or 2 . Im probably being over emotional but i just cant believe the third year retired but thats what makes this anime interesting and different i guess. Also mei crying was really moving so it was bitter sweet

Both teams were great however Inashiro was just better. I do think that Furuya is the best choice to becoming the Ace instead of Sawamura or Nori and I seriously hope he does.

That hit to the head looks like it'll be a trauma for Sawamura for a while.

Lol. The series would end too soon if they win. This is shounen remember. It needs to last a few years of defeat before they can win in the final arc. Maybe after 50 more episodes.

I was prepared for them to lose (as is what happens in the first tournament of every sports anime), but only AFTER an extra innings when they're TIED. I was definitely not expecting that sudden hit by Mei...

They executed Mei's feelings after winning really well though. The whole direction sequence with him was spot on.

But nothing hit me in the feels more than seeing Yuuki cry, all alone in his corner. He was probably my favorite player, and it's so frustrating, so FRUSTRATING, knowing that they're leaving. If they're team was a 9 with the seniors, they're suddenly going to drop to a 5/6.
I'm just glad that level-headed Miyuki is already noting that down.

Also, wasn't this the coach's final attempt to get them into nationals? Doesn't he leave now?

I don't think DnA will be the same without the third years though. As people are saying, the only realiable players left are Miyuki and Furuya.

I wonder how much more episodes this anime is going to get, probably not enough for them to go back to the nationals once more, especially now that the team is decimated and left weak.
