Greece plays in Europe, with top teams. Costa Rica plays in CONCACAF, vs weak teams like Guatemala, Nicaragua, Jamaica, teams with a very weak league. It's not the same for Greece to play Bosnia, Slovenia, Serbia, Italy. Also Greece is a formed Euro 2004 champion. So on paper, Greece was a decent team that Costa Rica beat.

Hopefully Robben doesn't go Lebroning vs Costa Rica just to get a penalty.

Tomorrow's games are going to be great, hopefully France and Germany will advance (which they more than likely will) and show us a quality match.

Another game butchered by 10v11, not that it was very exciting in the first place. I instantly lose the will to continue to watch a game when this happens. They need to change the punishment for red cards. Whether players deserve a red or not I don't really care, but having a match where a team is missing one player destroys the "fairness" of the competition. Unless they seriously injure another player where the other team also would miss/forced to switch a player because of it, they shouldn't have a 10v11 when the targeted player is perfectly fine for the entire match.

A red, in my opinion, would mean immediate suspension from play and missing 1-5 games, where the team is forced to switch (unless they used all 3 switches, then it's a 10v11.)

What an intense game. Too bad for Greece, they put great effort and scored at 90'. I guess that since the result hadn't been cleared out before the penalties, there is no need to put the blame on any players for the result. I am still proud that we managed to enter the top 16.
Costa Rica also played well even though they had 10 players. Navas is a very good goalkeeper.

Yeah Greece can be proud of themselves getting this close to the quarter-finals, especially since no one expected anything from Greece.
Also I kinda liked Holebas, he played well

The blame goes to Santos.

No it isnt about Katsourani, although he could put in a better player, but about replacing Maniatis before that.

My my Josh, I actually quite like the guy. He pretty much carries Netherlands offense in many of their matches for like 2 world cups and a euro cup now. He flaunts his trips but is otherwise a very consistent threat to any defense.

Example of this were the plays he made against Mexico, basically he was the unstoppable factor in that match, even when they fell for the same play repeatedly.

Well, so much for sportsmanship. Where were you when we got robbed of our first penalty? Or in other matches, where penalties given against us were also blatantly wrong?

And we're not the only team that likes putting it on. Heck, I saw parts of a match, in which a player got a tap in the head, and he went down as if his skull had been cracked open. And in one occasion, a player's arm came very close to his face, and the guy reacted as if his nose was broken.

If you want people kicked out for acting, fine, but be consistent, and demand that ALL players who do it get that treatment, not just one player. And if the FIFA suddenly decides that this match needs to be redone, they should redo ALL the matches that had dubious reffing, and that is simply not doable, nor do I think the FIFA truly cares that much.

oh you mean the "bring the ball on the right side, then as soon as I enter the box, cut back in the middle and shoot with my left foot" play? yeah for some reason defenders still don't understand that he's been doing that for his entire career.

EVERY defender knows that trick. Properly defending it is apparently a whole different story though. Just goes to show Robben's skill.

Also lol at everyone who calls that penatly a flop. You can call Robben out for over-selling it (which is indeed not exactly classy and he does it quite frequently) but this is also part of the game. His foot got hit, so it's a foul. A foul inside the box means penalty. The defender just has to be more clever in this situation and keep his damn feet away from Robben. It was a stupid challenge.

Indeed it is, specially since there are thousands of ways he can alter his dribble route, and anyone with half a brain would know that sending more than 2-3 defenders everytime to close his way having someone as Van Persie supporting him by being left alone is probably the stupidest thing they can do. Robben isn't the type of player you can put a double mark and think that's enough when he can outspeed virtually anyone. Gotta be rough defending him.

If people wants to see something 'classy' they should look at old tapes of Dinho or almost anyone around the 90's/2000's. Football isn't about the Jogo Bonito anymore and more about getting results at any cost, that's why if you touch anyone they will over-react it to sell the foul. It's kinda annoying, lol.

I agree with you. Nevertheless, it was his last match as Greece's coach.

I agree with you about Maniatis. Also I think that he should have kept Salpingidis in, he had some chances to score during the match. Anyways, apart from Santos, I don't think the blame should be put either on Gekas, who is a great player, or Karnezis.

The game actually livened up after the red card IMO, and I'm sure we've gone through why your suggestion wouldn't work. Every defender would begin fouling players through on goal as there is no fear of any real punishment, effectively robbing the opposition team of a goal. If a player is deservedly sent off, then it's his fault that he's let the team down. If he's wrongfully sent off, then that takes us to the argument of video replays (which I think should be implemented ASAP).
