| Sprited away is the best Ghibli film, and Porco Rosso comes second. Actually, Miyazaki deserves Nobel prize for creating Kaonashi. As opposed to common perception, Spirited Away is a movie for adults. The more one experiences, the more one understands this movie. On a side note, Mononoke Hime is NOT overrated since it is NOT highly rated in the first place. In fact it's on a level with Nausicaa. |

| Personally, yeah. I felt like the story took an extremely wide turn near the end and even though the events that led to resolving the conflict were (badly) alluded to, it still almost felt as if it was a deus ex fashion. I still think its an 8/10 which is almost a point below the average rating, so I still think its very good and definitely well deserving of its Grammy. |

| Personally, I'd say so, yes. It's often treated as something astoundingly amazing, but I did not find it to be so, especially in comparison to some of the other Ghibli movies that I enjoyed more. Also, while being a Oscars winner doesn't hurt, it certainly inflates its 'hype' and therefore people tend to automatically treat it better than the rest. |

| No. I've watched this around 2-3 times as a child. Now I suddenly decided to rewatch this as I see the hype thats still going around nowadays. When I watched this as a child it left something memorable and fun. But now when I watch it I understand why this is such a great movie. I step by step realise the little details that make this movie a masterpiece, the feelings and emotions that are invoked. Before Mononoke was my top, now after watching Spirited Away again Mononoke might move to second - (only by a fraction of a margin). Truly, this movie is a masterpiece. |

| It's a really good movie, you can see my anime list, i'm 19 and just saw spirited away for the first time today, i consider it to be a REALLY good movie, the train scene was so dark and beautiful. If you've read 1Q84 the "town of cats" story reminded me of this movie, although the ending was much darker. |

| Grave of the Fireflies is the best Ghibli movie ever and anyone who thinks otherwise can take a long walk off a short pier. :Now that I am finish being overly dramatic: No it's not overrated. Think about when it was released and everything that had been released before it up until then. It's kind of like looking back at the Oscars and remembering Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven won best picture. You're like "Sure it was a good movie, but c'mon was nothing better out that year?" Except that Spirited Away WAS actually that good. Pixar was Pixar. Disney was... IS sh*t on a stick. Don't even bring up Miramax, Bandai, or other big Studio in Japan or America at the time. Sure looking at what's evolved since then maybe I'd give it a 8 or 8.5, but I rated it from when I saw it, in the context I saw it. It is and still is as close to a 10 as you can get. But yeah Grave of the Fireflies IS A 10!!! |

| Well, I just finished watching this again, so thought I'd comment. I enjoyed the film well enough. The animation/art naturally, the music of course, and to some extent the characters although some are weaker than others naturally. I however, don't enjoy the plot/story very much. All that being said, I've never really cared for the term overrated. It's a rather inflammatory and lazy criticism. I didn't enjoy the film as much as a lot of people did. That doesn't invalidate their own subjective opinion (rating) which to me, is what overrated says. |
| I think it receive the attention that deserves, it's indeed a good movie. Maybe for the people who watched it after listening a lot of thing about it could be overrated, I mean, If somebody tell you that something is stunning and amazing you hardly will find it good because we all have different opinions about what's good. In my case I love Studio Ghibli's style, so for me this is one of the best movies in the world, but I can't say that is the nº1 movie or whatever because they're all different and necessary. I can't even say it is the best movie of the studio, all of them have their own things. |

| It is kind of overrated, but I can see why people like it. The setting kind of gives off the magical fantasy feelings that everybody adored as a kid, and the animation was fantastic, especially for its time. I personally would have liked more Haku involvement or maybe some backstory, and preferred the protagonist to have more personality rather than just there to move the story along. I wouldn't mind getting less Yababa(?) too. |

| I do think it's overrated, but only in the sense that I would give it a 6-7/10 instead of a 10/10. Positive score, but far from perfect. I like the themes, story, and imagination of the movie, but a lot of scenes lingered for way too long. When she was walking down their stairs to get to Kamajii, it took her like 2 minutes to get down 4 steps. There are also many panning shots that last a bit too long, and many scenes from the later half of the movie could've been faster or just cut entirely. Went from enjoying the atmosphere to being bored. Also, I didn't care about any of the side characters besides Kamajii and Lin, which becomes a problem when a decently large portion of the movie is somewhat focused on them. Mostly because the world itself is very vaguely explained, so any time there's some kind of side problem that needs to be solved, I'm not invested at all and it feels like padding. When it comes down to it, I can get a more appealing artbook to me from Ponyo, a more appealing atmosphere from When Marnie Was There, and better characters from pretty much any other Ghibli movie I've seen. |
