Finally some dirty jokes, which form a substantial part of the manga. I almost thought they are all filtered off in the adaptation to anime.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

That snowflake god was a bit strange, but this anime needs more of that. Throw something right out of left field, unexpected. Maybe if someone dies, or if a magical element appears.

So, somebody help me out here. They were looking up the days of the week, and somehow referencing them back to their Indo-european roots. So, もくようび (mokuyoubi) somehow traced to Thursday and Thor. Why??? Somehow I can't believe the Japanese word もくようび really has that root. I thought its root was wood or something like that.

I think they were actually trying to find out the origin of the Thursday used in English speaking countries, rather than Mokuyoubi's origin exactly. Though, they did talk about how Japanese didn't really have days of the week before the Gregorian calendar came into place, so it's possible that they meant that in terms of origin?

Well, all the "day of the week" concept used in Asia, including Japan and China, all came from the west. So the Japanese word for Thursday also has a western origin. It is called Mokuyoubi (or Wood-youbi) only because the day is called a "day of Jupiter" in Spanish and Portugese, who were among the earliest harbinger of western civilization to Asia (incl Japan), and it happens that in Japanese (as well as Chinese) the word for Jupiter is the "Wood Planet" or もくせい , as in China the planets are named after the five elements Water, Metal, Fire, Earth and Wood. So the link goes: Thursday (English) - jueves (Spanish) - Day of Jupiter - Day of Mokusei - Mokuyoubi

I hope this is clear....

If you know Sailor Moon, Kino Makoto's Ki = wood does come from her Jupiter theme, so she is green. Hino Rei's Hi = fire from Mars of Tuesday, red. and so on..

Back to the episode. Yuzuko discrimination continues.

I noticed that strange drawing from Yukari and the Mom also appear behind the ending song too. Have they always changed it according to each episode?

Having piqued my curiosity, I went back and checked, and Ep1 is bookstore clerk, Ep2 Mom, Ep3 Aikawa, Ep4 and 5 Aikawa and 2 friends. They also change up the small graphics, like green box with school supplies, whiteboard, cat-like thing, etc.

I don't know about the Japanese words for the days but the European names are after Northern gods except for Saturday which is named after a Greek god.
Sunday is named after the goddess Sol/Sunna she is the sun in Northern Mythology.
Monday is named after the god Mani he is the moon in Northern mythology it was very common in old religions for the sun and moon to be gods.
Tuesday was named after the god Tyr one of the Northern gods of war just like Odin.
Wednesday was named after the god Wodan in some cultures he was also called Odin and some Romans even called him Mercury his roles where similar to those two gods and they might have been one god sometimes mythology can be a bit confusing.
Thursday as said in this episode was named after Thor who is the most famous god in Northern mythology he was the god of thunder and lightning, storms and strength.
Friday was named after the goddess Frigg the wife of Odin and Queen of the Asgard, tho some argue it might be named after Freya the goddess of love, sexuality beauty Fertility and death.
And Saturday was named after Saturn the Greek god of Wealth agriculture and liberation.

These are the meanings for Western languages i am not familiar with the meanings of other cultures tho.

If you change "European" to "Northern European" or "countries that speak Germanic languages" then you are correct, but if you look at those countries that speak Latin family languages like Spain, Portugal or Italy, the name of the days of week came mainly from Roman mythology instead of Northern (Scandinavian) gods.

Great hotel and very pleasant bet the continuous changes of context made on this occasion, pleasing the disquisitions of the three girls, and I noticed some friction between Yui and Kei, in relation to Chiho! Drawings very nice especially when they show the girls from small, fun in the final discussion of snowflakes, a desire nuanced! XD

She wanted to make sure Yui wasn't "stealing" her friend Aikawa by making plans with her over Christmas. She doesn't like Yui because she's mentally unstable and carries around two puppets all the time.

Both my native language and English are Germanic languages so i went from that perspective to be honest i didn't know that meaning was different in Latin based languages.

Japan changed to the Gregorian calendar in 1873 which was 20 years after the Americans tried to force there way into Japan.
The 200 years before that Japan had closed it's borders contact with foreigners was only allowed under strict regulations and contact with Western people was forbidden with the exception of the Dutch.
So at the time the Gregorian calendar was introduced the most influential Western languages to the Japanese where English and Dutch both are Germanic languages.
The Japanese probably took over the Gregorian calendar from English or Dutch language which is most likely the reason why the origin of the names is the same.

If you are aware that the "week" concept is mostly a western creation, then it would not be that surprising. Of course it is possible that the words themselves would come from some Japanese root, but if the "week" concept did not exist then it would just make sense for the Japanese to make up the Japanese words for "day of the week" based on the words they got from the foreigners.

Aversa said:

I just don't want to see some French, Spanish or Italians howl with protest when they read that "the European names are after Northern gods" when this is not the case in their languages ;-)

Also, the Gregorian calendar and the 7 day week may have been formally installed only after Meiji Restoration, however the concept of "week" and "day of the week" was introduced much earlier and at that time the Spanish influence was much great. This is why the Japanese words for those "days of week" were based more on the Spanish words that based entirely on Roman mythology than English words with its Scandinavian (and Roman) mythology.

Was the part with Yuzuko blushing after hot and tasty a pun/cultural joke? Because I did think of something completely different but that's...um...well, you get it.

Jealous Okano was definitely great, making sure that Ichii would not steal her love interest. To be honest though, she would be better off joining Yui's harem, nobody can resist her.

Okaasan-sensei fanservice...nice. I wonder what's in the closet.

So much focus on death...no more please! And the God snowflake was...unexpected. The balloon bit was absolutely adorable. 4/5.
