The animation and soundtrack are quite lovely, it's a shame they're wasted on the content.

A dude with unreasonably long red hair seeks to open up the gates of Hades via. a magic/religious type cult, which will cultivate some sacred fruit from a sacred tree (all Adam and Eve like). Only a busty bimbo and the Jonas brothers can stop them. One brother is a reckless "badass", who gets into fights needlessly (how I loathe this archetype), the other is a a timid boy with a heart of gold, who gets walked all over - but wait. Who is this mysterious third party gun wielding milf dressed in all black? Time will tell. We all know righteousness and cool haircuts will prevail, as per usual. I fail to see even the slightest hint of a "poetic motif". That aside; some horrible, horrible mistakes led to the following lines being allowed to exist:

"I believed him." "It's weird, cause like magic, but I believed my bro." "I believe all of this."
"Return to your beautiful tree of Exodus."
"Did the world go insane?" "I don't care if this world crumbles to ashes. But... I will save the world!"
"O, cursed spite.. That ever I was born to set it right!"

Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and remind yourself that you're not Shakespeare, nor will you ever be. I never thought I would repeat advice from Drake, but just do you man, do you.

I got bored.
They made a slow and too detailed start up with a lot of names to remember.
Also the background music made me sleepy.

By motifs I wasn't pointing at Shakepeare quotes >.> It's just an anime, definitely not written by Shakespeare. But

In narrative, a motif (pronunciation) (help·info) is any recurring element that has symbolic significance in a story. Through its repetition, a motif can help produce other narrative (or literary) aspects such as theme or mood.

And as it was, it was okay and the mood was great. Some of the stuff that make no sense are common to the Shakespeare's Tempest, like the magician on the island. I doubt theya re trying to be Shakespeare, but to make an interpretation of it in the form of anime. SO to the Shakespeare stuff they add anime clichees and common stuff. Yea maybe they will insult the defunct artist, but c'mon. It still feels like fresh air to me so meh. Looking forward to see where it all goes

Now we can fight about whether the animators should use big boobs for fanservice, little boobs so that ppl won't tell em they are using women as sexual objects or medium boobs just to be politically correct. In a manner of speaking. I just think it doesn't matter.

AND now that I've done some googling xD. You are being a little hypocrite. Because you throw mud at the producers for trying to be Shakespeare and you quote the quotes that you think are terrible and shouldn''t exist. Okay but this one actually
""O, cursed spite.. That ever I was born to set it right!"

...is a Hamlet quote. So maybe we should stop pretending we are allknowing and superior. I too have to admit it's not like i can start quoting Shakespeare myself, even tho I had been studying him for quite a while. But i'm also trying my best not to say pointless stuff.

The size of her boobs shouldn't matter if she actually has a personality, which she does not appear to. She was introduced as a simple sex object and put on display right off the bat.

Yea. We all love women for their brains not for the looks. And i'm pretty sure in the fight scene she had we could have grasped her entire lifestory and personality IF the directors had put more heart in it. Really... i'm not even trying to actually defend this show. At least not for its characters, tho I kinda liked the mage girl on the island. And the other dead girl. But i'm really trying to find out why you are being so picky. You can't have it all, that's what I believe. But can't we just admit there's a bright side also ?

and bla. added some shit to my prev post and I reallyw anted you to read it =)))

I made a comparison of ranks. It was in no way irrelevant as I was just questioning something related. Ranks of airing shows. OFC I used SAO as reference because it was the best example.

The one being unreasonable agressive is you my friend. You just said you were fighting another guy who appearantly doesn't like SAO on anotehr topic. Just curious: are you searching for us, it's like a witch hunt or? Because It seems to me like you are using any poor of excuse to jump in and fanboy about SAO. honestly

P.S. here's some food for your brain, regarding SAO. Do you usually rate anime before you watched the last episode? Probably not. Nobody really does that. the fact that SAO is on 42 has nothing to do with the anime (which is poor - using a less offending word for the sake of peace) but with the ppl ranking it because they already read the novels. There are images that say more than 1000 words, but unfortunatelly that's not the case of SAO, which lamentably failed to deliver the feeling of the novels.

That aside, I bet you didn;t even know The Tempest was a Shakespeare play.

Nah, i'm not really searching for you, you just pop up everywhere.

And SAO as best example? You clearly missed alot of better examples, good sir, check the rankings again.

There is a bright side (art, music), I agree.

As for what you added, yes I think those quotes are all terrible. I did not know that last one was actually from Shakespeare (I figured it was an attempt to copy), but that doesn't matter. The point is that the "epic" choice of language is meaningless and without proper context.

The reason I am being more picky in this case is because this show is extremely pretentious, it has an obvious air of self-importance. I'm not picky if a show sets out with modest goals, but I will be skeptical of a show that sets out clearly trying to be great, or claims philosophically insight. Everything about episode one screamed righteous insight and importance, there was no subtlety, or nuance to be found. In the end it was just blabbering intellectual fan-service, for me. I think this is a good summary of how I feel: "Art does not begin great, it becomes great when the greatness is found."

Astonishing first episode, I was left very, very and I mean it, very impressed. Really like how the 1st episode was directed, hope the upcoming ones have the same style and flow. The music and how they used it in every scene was too amazing. Beautiful art and great animation. All the characters look promising and interesting, plus the voice acting fits every character.

I will see "K" right now and after it I'm gonna re-watch the 1st episode of "Zetsuen no Tempest", cause right now I'm giving the 1st ep a 10 out of 10 and I wanna make sure it deserves it.

I'm not familiar with the source material, and had low expectations coming in, so I was nearly blown away by what was actually an awesome first episode. I found myself quite thrilled the whole way through, and if it keeps this standard up, it might even become my favourite show of the season. I want more!

I especially liked the OST.

The episode is interesting but a bit confusing. It skips time and that Mahiro just appeared from nothing telling a story and acting like ''I'm awesome'' infront of his friend, hope he gains some powers too.
I dindn't understand this: well Aika died, she was dating Yoshino. But then after she died Mahiro disapeared and Yoshino was daiting someone at the present time, revealed at the ending that was Aika. So that means everyone think he was daiting someone but in truth he was recalling old memories and people believe it was someone alife?! Am I wrong? O_o And why wasn't Yoshino affected by the virus? I didn't get that in the anime :P

Relax dude, you can't understand if you only watch the first episode. Because the anime is telling us a story but all you've watched just a portion of it, there's no way they can tell full story within a single episode lol.

As for the episode, damn I like Bones :X, and i believe Aika hasn't died that easy cause she's one of the main characters.

Good animation (although the art isn't on pair with K), music is catchy as well. I'm gonna follow this. This season has many promising shows and I think I can follow them all if they keep the same quality as they represented in the first episode.

The episode started with bad execution. It could explain things better, rather jumping from here & there, or throwing various names. (On the other hand it is BONES, I was never a fan of the certain studio.)

The main idea is cliche, but some authors tend to make cliche elements quite enjoyable. Who knows what's the case with ZnT, it is early to judge.

Now, something that bothers me; The doll that Mahiro found, the one created by Hakaze. How the hell Hakaze created it? Apparently, she is useless on that island, how could she create something magical?

The whole virus deal... I hope it will be a better case than Guilty Crown.

Oh & by the way... Why do I suspect a bit of yaoibait by this?

you should know by now that making reviews after the first episode is pointless.I could make a review since I've read the manga but even that would be pointless since the anime adaptation might be different later on since the manga is on-going

I'm impressed by pretty much everything in this episode.

Yoshino seems like a great character, I really look forward to seeing how he develops in the future, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna stay "useless" POW character throughout the whole series, he seems to be way more interesting than that.

Animation was also really, really good, especially the water details during their "walk on the beach".

Impressive, looking forward to more.

Oh, and that ending, really, really, really good stuff. I didn't expect English song to sound that good on Japanese anime, I don't see it that often anyway, and even than it sounds horrible, this one on the other side is really good.

An excellent first episode....a totally satisfying adaptation of the opening of the manga...(the tree of life looked great in CGI), in terms of animation this has also been quite a feast for the eyes (the animation when Mahiro unleashed his magic moves was eye-popping, and the designs of the characters were slick)

by the way, how long is this going to turn out to be? (there have been eighteen chapters translated so far, but i got word that in Japan it has already reached chapter 35-40) i really hope they're not gonna pull a season 2 on us (i'd rather that this anime have an original ending than that)

Action was great, everything seemed quite straight to the point. I really like the characters as well. The one mage girl seemed interesting, Mahiro was pretty badass and the other main guy was cool in his own way as well.
