I know Runge is a weird fellow, but in this episode he was stranger than ever. Also, he was really stupid to lose, what could have been, the only chance to reunite with his family.
Can't wait to see what will happen at the cerimony.

Yeah, he's stupid but him missing his chance to reconnect with his daughter and grandchild were doomed to failure because of his work ethic. He has been looking like he's started going a bit off the deep end though. His dedication to catching Tenma by trying to think like Tenma is kind of scary.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Nothing Runge does surprises me anymore. He's still an interesting character, even though he's a jackass.

Other than that, kind of an uneventful episode. We now know where Johan's monster quote came from, but that's kind of a minor detail.

The pictures of the ending are the ilustrations of that book, right?

I like the ending song, it sounds a little funny. The tone is original.

^^ I came to the same conclusion, since the pictures at the end seem to correspond with the text from the book so well.

Bad episode. One of the worst in Monster. Quite stupid at some points actually. Didn't expect something like that from a quality anime like Monster.

I wonder who are those Japanese guys? They seem to know Tenma very well. I think they are probably Tenma's acquaintances from before he left the hospital. One Japanese guy said something about 3 years ago. Runge's attempts to think like Tenma by meeting a bunch of Japanese people and integrating into their culture seems pretty illogical. Getting some information about Tenma from them is reasonable but why become Tenma? That is stupid. Because according to his logic, Tenma has split personality and kills being somehow emotionless. He cannot become something like that.

The psychiatrists were also weird. Or maybe they just don't know how powerful Johan's manipulations are.

Tenma's tactic to shoot Johan is another nonsense.... Hiding on top of a bookcase? The hell? Like.... you are so ONE with the surroundings. You are practically invisible there.... He will only attract attention like that. And waiting whole night on top. Jesus...

It was a slow episode, but it meant to elaborate on two things rather than advance the plot: that Tenma does not belong to any particular group of people, and that ethnic stereotyping doesn't work.

Something that I didn't pick up on the first time around was Runge missing the date with his daughter perhaps because he perceived that this is what Tenma, not being close to his family, would do.

Interesting, it seems you missed the point completely of this episode. Lunge for example, copying Tenma was nothing new. He's been copying various people from the beginning, his reasoning for this kind of psychology is so he can understand Tenma's movements. Think about this for a second here. Most people who succeed in running away from authority this long escape to a place where they will not be found. But Tenma has been following a predictable trail, and seems to, from the outside perspective, plunging into danger (which he totally is). The thing is, is that this is irrational behavior. Lunge has not, before this point, attempted to get into Tenma's head in this much detail. Considering the previous evidence he's been shown, and the repeated escaped, he is intending to observe every detail. This is Lunge's normal behavior, and is not unrealistic for him to do. Also, the moment where he was called by his daughter is to demonstrate a faint trace of humanity in Lunge. Up to now, we've only been shown things to demonstrate his machine-esque inhumanity, whether it's his ludicrous work schedule, his seemingly uncaring attitude towards his family, his finger tapping, or his determination to complete the task ahead of him causing him to throw a guy who stabbed him and shoot him, all of this seems fairly inhuman. This is why the phone call is such a big deal. He was willing to see his daughter when he could have been working. The only thing to circumvent this is of course, his obsession with Tenma. Also, it is very easy to blend in with the spot Tenma chose, you are underestimating the security. As previously noted, their idea of stepping up security was to check the guest log thoroughly. This is the nineties, there are no security cameras or systems commonly in such places. The most danger a library would typically face is vandalism. The shadow of the upper floor masks Tenma from the bottom floor, and no one would check the top to make sure no one was there. So now this brings me to my final point, the psychology of hiding. People think that to hide, you have to blend in to your surroundings, but that is not the case. Before anything else, you must leave no trace. None whatsoever. I am a paranoid human, so I constantly check for these areas, and as one who hides from others, I've noticed that people are unlikely to pay attention to their surroundings. Blending is of course, a good skill, but hiding where no one look makes you just as invisible.

Wow probably a good clue as to why Johann is Johann was just missed by Tenma, really though at some point the girl would mention her friend being the secretary of Schubert or mention his name but nope. Also wonder if it really wouldn't be that noticeable sitting on a book shelf like that, feel he would have to move alot farther back to not be clearly visible from people on the first floor, especially those on the stage.

Runge is back in action!

About Episode:

So finally Lunge is in Munchen still he is believes Tenma is supect. He did go really deeply believing it almost if he had been some kind of hypnotize form. I mean he is becoming whole another person. He is becoming Tenma number 2. I feel sorry for Lunge not seeing him family. Definitely he should been going there to meet his girl and baby.

Rudy got great advice from that other guy when he was questioning him. It also explained some things about Johan also maybe what is his next move.

Doctor tried telling Johan's parents about it. But why couldn't they just listen him. I mean next time Johan visits them. I am pretty sure he is going to eliminate those parents of his. Kind of feeling bad for fosters to finally saw what kind of kid they have been adopted.

Again Tenma in library there is already been couple of episode Tenma in library and of course Lotte appeared there to look for translation book for the picture book Johan read and when she began to read it.

I wonder if this text has some meaning in it: "Once upon a time, in a far away island..." There was a monster without a name" "The monster wanted name so badly that he couldn't stand it" "So the monster decided to go on a journey. This is definitely talking about Johan.

Because as we know we don't know Johan's real name. So technically he don't have a name. Wanting name could mean If he wanted to become popular and everyone notice him. That would mean his perfection in everything. Journey would mean he go to study psychology and learning about how to manipulate people to gain their trust. That island part could mean that he went far away country to gain these things.

wow another amazing one!!

tbh it didn't feel weird when Lunge started acting like Japanese.

he does look more like a Japanese middle age man tbh rather than a German XD

and wow were there alot of Japanese people in Germany in the 1980s?

such a shame his only chance of seeing his daughter for so long and his grandson had to be waste :(

feel sorry for her :(

Lunge's obsession with Tenma is just wow!!

even started acting if he was Tenma in a situation like this.

looks like he managed to copy the Czech book Johan was asking. shame Lunge didn't know that Johan was the secretary of Schubert.

such a boss he's reading something that's not related to his work, and even admitting himself XD

shame about Johan's parents still shuns the truth just because they have a big house and everything they need.

wow if only Frank Lotte let Tenma read the book he would have known this is from Johan!!

and wow the security was kinda useless, though this was in the 1980s plus there were no cameras back then.

so Tenma will finally kill Johan there O__O

next episode is gonna be intense!!

On the contrary, I think it could be plot-critical. That book is the key to understanding what's going on with Johan. It sounds quite strange/dark.

Perhaps Johan is this "monster without a name"?

Lunge's theory about Tenma has yet another hole now. If he didn't care to stand out as the businessman said, then there's no motive for him to have killed the hospital director at the beginning of the series. At that, the monster quote (which Lunge is familiar with) comes from a picturebook the blond-haired secretary to Shubert wants. Given that Gillen already identified said boy as Johan, there is no longer a reasonable basis for Lunge to continue insisting Tenma is Johan.

"Tenma is not close to his family, and I'm Tenma right now, so of course the logical thing to do is to break the promise I made with my daughter." Bulls.

Anyways, Tenma, babe, are you sure you want to shoot from that spot?

I find it funny that Tenma is using a .338 at that short of a range. He can't be more than 300m away from Johan. A lighter rifle would have gotten the job done easily with the same results.
