Queen_Stars said: Anime_Name said: The main character in the anime was the girl and she was looking for her boyfriend in the manga the MC is the boyfriend and he is looking for the chick. Nope? The GF was with him the majority of the story in the manga; she was with him when she got ill and we viewed her condition progress as she was by his side; the premisis of the story was him searching for an answer (not searching for her). Close enough. The MC ended up looking for the chick in the manga anyway and the MC in the OVA ultimately was seeking answers in the search for her BF. |

No resolution in the end? Just leave the place? The movie was kind of enjoyable except the later that it was kind of gross and the ending was just left like that. The sex scenes somehow spiced up this show. I was quite taken a back when there was even in the street. I was quite amused by that scene. |

I was expecting something else, but in the end they didn't even maintained the Ito's visuals on the characters. Quite disappointed but I can understand people who legitimately enjoyed, especially the ones who watched this before even knowing about the manga or didn't care that much about it in the first place. Ah, and ufotable could've done so much better with the animation. Well, I guess was the budget been used on unecessary 3D on every scene. |

Well, that was funny. Was sort of like a B horror movie; zombie movie with dark humour. However, it was still a piece of shit with an abysmal ending. 3/10 and may lower. |

Didn't think it was that bad, I liked the animation and didn't mind the sex scenes. But overall it was a bit boring and the I really don't like the open ending. Anyway, I really hope people will animate more Junji Ito manga's |

I actually thought this was a fun little OVA with a really weird wacked out sense of dark humor. It doesn't work as a horror piece, the atmosphere just isn't there. However, the characters aren't half bad for such a short run time because the anime isn't so much story driven as it is character driven... sort of. I mean it is driven by it's characters but sometimes I though it more like psudo-character driven when really it was about getting to it's weird set pieces. Which were always entertaining even if most of the time I was laughing out loud rather than scared or feeling particularly sympathetic to the characters. I dunno, I guess fart powered zombies amuse my inner child, same goes with all the really gross moments and gashunk was actually pretty awesome. The animation was lacking and the art design wasn't all that appealing but it wasn't terrible either. I gave it a 7 out of 10 but it's on the low ends of the 7 scale. More like a 7-. |

Totally fun movie. Read the manga and loved it. But never really needed a accurate adaptation, so I am kinda glad that they turned the story into this actionpacked horror-flick. Perfect for people who are into this kind of movies, but you should really consider reading the manga also. The manga for the story, the movie for the fun. |

Ufotable made major changes, so what, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it and I certainly did although there were some loose ends and that still unsatisfying ending. messedup said: Perfect for people who are into this kind of movies, but you should really consider reading the manga also. Hooooooooooooooooly shit, that was shit. No wonder I skipped over it when it was first released. It just got stupider and stupider. I could've sworn it was a comedy for the first few bits. Now, I just want my time back. :( |

Compare to the manga, it is somewhat a little more tamer in one aspect but they ante up the visual gore in another aspect. My only minor nitpicking grip would be since they took liberties to swap the character roles, maybe just as a minor reward for viewing it would be nice if both tadashi and kaori survive. If this could be remake just another time, it would be cool to see both characters be fleshed out "strong anime kaori + strong manga tadashi " kinda thing. |

For a couple of years after House of 5 Leaves I've been waiting for something new that would fit my taste in anime, and finally this is it! Extremely dynamic, moderately gory, original and... you know, after numerous attempts of watching all these monotonous "cartoons" this is also FRESH (ironically, huh? :) ). |

You can't end the disaster movie without killing the bad guys :/ Really the story has no ending whatsoever, it's like cutoff the last 15 min of the movie. Nothing has been explained, not even mention the unlogical holes everywhere. |

Shit is retarded. It's not only a horrible adaptation, but the original source is mediocre to begin with. I did not mind the Tadashi-Kaori role reversal, but other characters serve almost no purpose whatsoever to the plot. The voice acting and directing are simply awful. The only redeeming factor is the above average animation, and even then, the sharks look pretty bad imo. 2/10 for the OVA 4/10 for the manga |

Well this is one hell of a long OVA. Ufotable huh? Nice. That monster in the beginning was fucking disgusting tbh. That was one hell of landing anyways. So it's shown that these fish creatures can infect others too. Damn, the new Erika is disgusting. Really weird OVA tbh. I just read the manga synopsis and seems like some shit was changed. Oh well, odd OVA anyways. 5/10. |

like all movies where nature finally gets its revenge on humanity it ISN`T SUPPOSED to have a real plot, humanity gets destroyed !!! and the main chracters, the plot unfolds around , have to survive the movie and then wander into a dead wasteland at the end. i have seen this actually at least 50 times in other (apocalypse)movies. the idea itself though is brilliant , i have never seen such a disturbing end to humanity. turning into a zombie is like a trip to disneyland compared to what happens in this movie.. imagine it would happen to your family or girlfirend/boyfriend. technically the animation is very good, distinct rather realistic character designs and the 3d fish monsters were made in a way they don´t disturb the cartoon graphics(which not many animes which use cg-assets get right at all). the rendering with the green blown up people and yellow rotting gas is much more disgusting then the mangas black n white graphics( the gas is supposed to be blue in the manga). the animations of people unwillingly gettting attached to the creatures in animation is much more horrible then the manga too. i guess thats the reason they chose to make an anime out of this because in the end this anime did add a lot. its one of those rare cases where a long unwinding story isn´t the keypoint. the design for the monsters reminds me alot of the "blue submarine" ovas from 1999. easily 8/10 because it didn´t let me go for at least 4 to 5 days. |

I feel like the producer just skimmed over a couple points of the manga and felt like he was ready to roll. This wasn't just bad, it was very bad and pushing towards being appalling. I would love to see a faithful rendition of a Ito work; they are some of the most unsettling things I've ever had the pleasure of reading. This on the other hand was the worst animation I've seen since Pupa. It's odd that both of those works were Horrors that had tons of potential, but just fell flat on their face. But for real, someone needs to be put in jail for raping this story. |

After re-watching the entire animated adaptation again, I still take the stance that the manga is far superior. As much as Manga Kaori is more of the "stereotypical pain-in the ass whining bitchy etc etc", she comes of more sympathetic in her final moments especially since Manga Tadashi is even willing to even just sit with her corpse at the ending instead of the hollywood ending where Movie Bland Sue Kaori just escapes and leaves "3rd Wheel dude" to the usual movie script fate. If by any chance Ito pisses the blood to boil and sues for a faithful remake, I'll say have at least 3-4 OVA episodes 40-50mins+ and maybe one compilation movie lock stock and barrel seal the deal sweetly. Also would had been more nice to put the manga female assistant to the professor as well. As mentioned in an earlier post, might as well make manga tadashi and anime Kaori survive together to pull the heartstrings. |
